This again? Do you not realize that a person can deliberately handicap themselves to make the game more challenging? There's an old game challenge called the antarctic challenge. What you do is you build your base in Antarctica at the highest difficulty level. Then you refuse to build any other bases throughout the world and you refuse to save during combat, taking whatever outcome may happen. It makes for an extremely hard game, so much so that I only completed it once (it just wasnt worth it to me to do it again).

Maybe I just dont get your way of thinking but youre not making any sense. If a player wants to play X-Com in a hyper difficult situationt hey can do so and it doesnt interfere with other players gameplay experiences. Thats a good thing! You seem to want everyone to conform to your expectations though and thats a bad thing

You know, the world complains that there aren't enough challenging games in the world, then a company comes along and makes a challenging game. Then it gets lambasted because they had to take away some of the capabilities to make it challenging.

Winning!? :\

Yes, you could do it that way, you could also play Modern Warfare blindfolded, but people aren't going to. This Antarctic challenge is so  not what I'm saying it's not funny. I don't even know why you brought it up. People want other people to make more challenging games. Honestly, it's not handicapping yourself, it's expecting more challenge. I could play Xcom with one skyranger, one soldier, and nothing else. I could play it where I never research anything (I can't win, but I can do it). Anyone can do anything to handicap themselves, but why? You're making no sense whatsoever. To alter the way the game was meant to be played... I just don't get it.

I'm talking about actually you know normally playing a game within the parameters it was meant to be played in. Six people is just more challenging the 12, but ultimately like I said it's a trade off. The only thing they're limiting is you can't get what unit you want when you want it. It's not less choices, it's less power. I can see why you don't get that argument if you're defense is something from cloud cuckoo land.

This is the second time you've openly insulted me when having what is supposed to be a civil discussion. It needs to stop. You can disagree with me but when you insult me you've crossed the line. It kills any actual discussion value that could have been had and it makes me very angry because Elliquiy is supposed to be a group of adults, devoid of the drama that belongs back in high school

I'm sorry you feel insulted, but this isn't the case. You don't got to people talking about sailing when they're talking about how sailing a smaller boat through chop is harder than sailing a larger boat through chop, and tell them that the real challenge is in putting a hole in the hull, throwing away their compass, and tearing down their sails.

It does not follow, Brandon, it's a complete non sequitor. Believe me or not, but I'm not.

Whether or not you like a game, the way it was meant to be played OR the way someone else wants to play it there is no excuse for rudeness in these threads.  Civility is the way WE play around here and the ONLY way we play.

Thank you, both of you.

I'd just like to point out that there are players like myself who don't play video games to challenge ourselves.  We play to relax and have our own brand of fun.

Well, back on topic, yes?

Mass Effect 3! I picked up the Digital Deluxe, and it came with the launch DLC. Beware spoilers below!

Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide
You get a Prothean teammate! He's pretty damned badass! He comes with a Prothean Particle Accelerator rifle that you can use, too!

Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide
Sadly, Tali kills herself no matter what you decide when partaking in the mission to save her home world.

Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide
Also, Miranda dies when you return to Horizon and find a Cerberus facility turning the refugees there into Husks and other Reaper-controlled beasties. I'm REALLY hoping no one else major kicks the bucket!
This game is getting really hard to play (not difficulty, or hate), what with characters you've come to love dying. But then, it is an extinction level event going on. It should be expected... but oh so hard to stomach. :'(

It's been 27 hours since ME3 released here.

I've been playing it for 16 hours or so. What a truly massive game. It's amazing. Probably the best thing about it ( that is, the one thing that could really have reduced the quality of the game, but didn't ) is that they don't take any shortcuts. I'm starting to really dislike it when a game just decides to just have all the remaining villains conveniently gather in the same place, or when the location of the last bad guy also happened to be the location of the President, who was the only one with the power to stop the Russian separatists or ... whatever, you get what I'm saying: shortcuts ruin good stories. Mass Effect 3 does not take any shortcuts.

I have no life.

Also, I have no inclination to talk about the game. I just want to play it and enjoy it. I don't even want anyone telling me what others have said about the game's ending. Gah. Careless people. I want my ME3 experience pure and ... But! For those who already finished the game, or those who have no intention of playing it ... or the people who aren't worried about spoilers, shame on you, here's my favorite joke from the game:

Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide
Joker, following Cerberus' failed coup attempt: "I guess Cerberus decided to go into politics."

But, hey. I've got my favorite weapon, I've got my favorite squadmates, and I've got a galaxy to save. What more could I possibly ask for?

Hemingway, that line of Joker's is one of several that have left me laughing.

They got the perfect guy to pull the guy off (Seth Green, if unaware, voice acts as Joker). Every good joke I've heard in the game came from Joker.

My favorite line from Joker so far belongs in ME2.

Shepard: "We're already here, so we might as well let them pamper us."
Joker: "Uh... does it break uniform regs if I get that on a T-shirt? Because, this is my favorite you-have-no-choice choice ever!"
Shepard: "Technically this is a civilian ship, I guess I should be lucky that you're still wearing pants."

EDIT: So I rented Dead Island. Already I think I've gotten my first glitch. So after listening to the entirety of the gun chick's super explicit biography (I could use a few words, but I won't) that left me feeling quite uncomfortable and caused my testicles to retreat into my body I set out for some early quests. One of which is to bring this guy booze because he's thirsty. Now this is either brilliance or broken.

It's broken because no matter how many bottles of the hair of the dog I give him  the quest never closes out. It's brilliance because booze does nothing but dehydrate you. So, he drinks and drinks and never slakes his thirst.

Plus what was the point of picking the firearms expert if I get no fire arms. Sheesh.

With Firearms, you're specializing in something that's extremely rare and will only start to pop up, rarely, towards the endgame. With Throwing Weapons, you're facing mobs of zombies that run directly at you, you can only hold an average of 8 weapons, and your tactic is to throw them at the surging mass of screeching bodies. And it doesn't kill them. It just lodges in them.

This is why I say the RPG elements were tacked on a week before the game got released. Your only choice, really, if you wanna live at all is the rapper or the asian cop, and with the latter, you may have better damage, but less weapon force and shorter reach, so honestly, Snoop Dogg is the only smart choice. It's hard enough to not get swarmed when your packing enough punch to knock someone down in one hit, if you really wanna use a knife that just glides across people, your in for a much more needlessly frustrating experience.

Psh..With Dead Island, it's true...I only used Firearms at the end...every other time I was using either Bladed or Blunt weapons, snapping/cutting off arms and such.

Haha, yeah, I have such a love/hate relationship with that game xD the limb damage is one of it's few redeeming features and I will go on record saying it is 'too bloody awesome for an average game'. But as nice as the damage is, bladed is a poor option, and yeah, it takes limbs off, but its damage on the rest of the model is identical to the blunt weapons, so there's no visual element to help convince anyone to take it over blunt.

Hammers and bats may be weaker then machetes, but they're longer and hit harder, and after playing both, which means dealing with a small group of zombies is actually possible. It means when you swing you got a good chance that whatever you hit will eat the dirt, where as if your packing a knife, you need to get closer and chances are the things not going down until you actually kill. This is a GAME CHANGING difference.

Plus there's other useless choices you could make, like stealth attacks. Your not going to be backstabbing anyone, everyone runs directly at you. The level scaling is one of the worst I've ever seen, as well. It's like every time you get stronger, the zombies get double the enhancement. Your not getting better at all, the game is punishing your progress.

I started playing Record of Agarest War again. Finally got to the third generation. >.>

Freaking game is long as hell.(And longer if you are one of those types, like me, who will play a game then hop to another then hop back to former game.)  Like that other RPG... What was it.. CrossEdge? But I couldn't get into Cross Edge as much as I did Agarest.

And Dead Island, I used throwing weapons all time, but I also cheated and duplicated the throwing weapons. (Not sure if they patched that) So if I lost something then oh well, I always got a spare in the storage area.

Mass Effect 3 is really kicking me when I'm down. The whole war effort just seems to be spiraling out of control, even the little quests seem to have a big impact so it's frustrating not being able to find what random person number nine wants. However, I'm too scared to pass up any help.

As I've mentioned before, I don't want to get into any discussions about ME3. I find that avoiding trailers/demos/possible spoilers and all discussion ( except when I had to look up a bugged mission ) has increased my enjoyment of the game. I just thought I'd drop by to say this:

Mass Effect 3: best game everrr. No. No, that doesn't quite cover it. Let me rephrase that.

I've been a huge fan of Mass Effect since the first game was released. Back then, I might have said The Elder Scrolls was my favorite series of games ever, but I think Mass Effect 2 changed that. It was a vast improvement over the first game in so many ways, and even thought I know a lot of people had issues with the story, I always liked it. Mass Effect 3 ... it's just amazing. I feel like every major choice I made is not just having consequences, but it's having the consequences I predicted. I can't begin to describe how satisfying that is, the feeling of, "Yes! I was right!"

I won't spoil anything, but this game is everything I could possibly have wanted, and more. And I haven't even finished the game yet.

Thanks Hammy, please keep it that way <3 my copy is downloading incredibly slowly, but I may be able to play it in the next day or so if I'm really lucky. My asshole friend already spoiled a few things, but I'm absolutely certain they are avoidable events, so not too peeved. Just need to tread the internet like a Ugandan Soccer Field for the next week or two...

I swear, if anyone drops spoilers, I will find where you live and hide so many dead fish in your house you'll never find them all, and it'll soak right into the wood and you'll have to rebuild the fucking thing to get the stink out.

I finished ME3 last night (early AM, actually).

The last hour or so of the game blew me away. I didn't get the good or perfect ending, but I've discovered a fair bit on how to get that.

PS: I <3 Specialist Traynor! While I miss lil Miss Kelly Chambers (so cute), Traynor was a nice addition to the game.

This is actually spoiler free because it's subjective. I'm guessing I'm about halfway through the game at this point.

I'm not so certain I know how things are going to turn out anymore. I mean we all knew the war was coming, but iI almost want to literally give up and not  finish the game. I didn't think I cared about game characters this much. God, I thought saving them all during the Collector mission was doing them a favor...

It doesn't cost anything to look them up!

Mass Effect is a series of sci-fi third person action / RPGs. The first game was released in 2007, I think, so it should be available for cheap, and it's definitely a game that's worth checking out.
