Required Questions:

1. Tell us how you found us, please?

By the time I got to this step I completely forgot how the heck I got here. Found it though: in a Reddit comment someone mentioned the forum (I don't want to unintentionally call potentially unwanted attention to them and the subreddit is small so I'm not going to mention it.)

2. Confirmation that you understand our rules.

I think so. I liked em anyway. They are good rules and are why I'm at the point of filling out this questionnaire.

3. A confirmation that you are over eighteen (18) years of age.

I am over 18. I am in my mid 30s

4. Your native language(s) and what region you are from.

  American English, northeast united states.

5. What are your reasons for joining Elliquiy, and what aspects of our community are you interested in?

Primarily the RP, but I also like making new friends. I might be interested in posting/viewing more creative content though. It's been a long time since I've used a traditional forum.

6. Are you new to roleplaying?

This is an interesting question when you think about it. I'm not new to roleplaying in general, I've done TTRPGs and gotten into in-game roleplaying in the last couple of years (that is: roleplaying in a videogame.) I'm technically not new to forum-style roleplaying. However, it has been a long time and I'm down for mentoring or even just links to guides.

7. Elliquiy consists of a wide array of sexualities, personalities and enthusiasts of various kinks. How comfortable are you interacting in such a community?

Pretty comfortable? I don't know how to qualify/quantify that as an answer, but assuming the question is more like: 'Are you secretly a judgemental kink-shaming bigot?' Nope.

8. How do you feel about males writing as female characters or females writing as male characters?

It's fine, important even. In my experience it's often how a lot of my trans friends start exploring that part of themselves (whether they know they're trans yet or not). People can do it insultingly or even maliciously poorly and that sucks, but it's not a reason to ban an entire gender from writing something (plus, gender's a social construct).

9. Let us know about your pet peeves or other things that bother you.

Fetishes I don't like can be difficult to place in this context. There's plenty of things I don't like. But I'm so into like, the characters that if the fetish is used well and it contributes to that character meaningfully it ends up being an exception. Generally though I'm not fond of vore, necro, poop things, and bestiality (some contexts give exceptions, it's more about non-con with incapable brains is ick).
As far as styles I can't appreciate; I'm not sure I have encountered any yet besides the obvious. These may be more like pet peeves: I don't like when there's a weird expectation to 'sell' a character. Not in the kinky sense but in the interest/attention sense where it feels like some people want you to elevator pitch your character to them in-character. I prefer roleplay where normal behavior is, well, the norm, and I've seen many people forget how to act human just because it's roleplay. I do not like roleplay environments that discourage all OOC communication, but I don't think that happens very often (or as draconically) in play-by-post?

Optional Questions:

A. Would you like to disclose your gender identity?

Sure, I'm technically genderfluid but I have never found a way to express that in a way I find personally satisfying so I tend to stick with the agab of female.

B. What are some hobbies or activities you particularly enjoy?

Crochet, sewing, anime, videogames (especially mystery/investigation, currently playing BluePrince and VotV, just finished Promise Mascot Agency), making mods for videogames (particularly VintageStory), and writing.

C. What would you do if a writing partner suddenly, and without prior discussion, included one of your major offs in your roleplay?

Assuming major offs are like, anything under the lines part of lines and veils; it depends. If we explicitly discussed it (rather than having it passively posted somewhere) at the start and they did it anyway and it was a recent part of the conversation and its a new person and the vibes are off I'd probably just end the roleplaying. Or if it feels like a mistake I'd just talk to them about it. Or if its someone I'm familiar with I'd... just talk to them. Or if I'm not sure enough that talking to them isn't comfortable (it happens, bad childhoods suck), I'd seek out a mediator.

D. Please describe your writing style and preferences.

I wasn't really into the whole first vs third vs second thing until recently when someone changed my perspective on it (ha). Now I veeery strongly prefer third person.
I don't have a preferred genre, but I do seem to be much more comfortable with the surreal than most people. My character existing in multiple realities/timelines simultaneously to then pick apart their mood when they all collapse into a single reality is fine, no big deal.
I don't have a preference on post length. The length of a post doesn't determine it's effectiveness, I've seen people write very long posts that accomplish nothing, and very short posts with big impact. The quality of art is not determined by the size of the canvas.
Settings: Anything at any range of fantasy/scifi. Not fond of non-fiction.

E. Please describe your ideal roleplaying partner and their character.

Partner: Willing to communicate, down for nonsense/antics, also likes character-focused play. Their character: Whatever character(s) they care about and want to play? I may not be grasping the point of this question.

F. As part of the application process, our members like asking fun questions of applicants.

F1. Please let us know if you would you prefer: fun/silly questions, writing prompts, both, or neither.

Most questions are ok, but try to be clear about what you're asking (even the silly ones). Writing prompts I probably can't humor, at least not as something I'd consider 'complete.' Theoreticals, roleplay/character problem solving, messy outlines, sure. I am pretty careful about not letting writing become some kind of stressful performance check, did enough of that in school. Character building exercise sounds interesting. Staff questions are ok too.

F2. If you would like fun questions or a writing prompt, please start by treating the following as either a question, writing prompt, or character building exercise, and remember to keep it PG13:
People start waking up with superpowers, but they are mostly useless. For example, the power to be immune to every third bullet, or the power to force people to do the chicken dance whenever the song is played. What would your ‘mostly useless’ power be, and how would you use it?

I think this is already the plot of a shonen anime. My best idea at the moment comes from the Ioun stones in DND. They are like these magic rocks that are supposedly very powerful (I personally find their effects to be very boring, but I'm not a mechanics nerd). https://forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/Ioun_stone
But like, how useless would it be to have an otherwise normal rock forever floating around your head? The character would end up doing things like pinning sticky notes on it or sticking googly eyes on it. Or maybe painting it to match their makeup/nailpolish. It would depend on the overall setting and any more central plot, but I would likely not push to make the rock useful and instead make it a challenge to keep integrating it into the characters everyday life without becoming the central focus.

F3. If you prefer no crazy questions or prompts, you can still include a sample of your writing, if you would like; we would love to see your writing style and creativity!

I'll pass on this, I don't have anything already written that I'm comfortable sharing. Not because of any feelings about the quality of the work, but because this isn't my usual username. You know?

G. Do you have any questions of us?

What method does everyone use for actually drafting posts? Do you type directly into the editor? Does anyone prefer markdown and have some magic way to get it not to argue with the wyswig? What cool/neato ways do you have of keeping up with forums in 2025? Any guides/personal preferences in formatting posts for readability?

Revelation

 Hello, Sockette09! Welcome to Elliquiy!

Please note that our application process is an interactive one, with other users dropping in to greet you and maybe ask you a question or two! You are also free to meet and greet other applicants in their application threads and do the same, of course. There are also other forum based activities to help break the ice that you can find here!.

The approval process we go through with user members takes a minimum of 24 hours and may take up to a week so please keep such in mind. Approval is also never 100% guaranteed, and we appreciate your understanding of the process!

Finally, keep in mind that before approval all interactions and posts you make must be kept PG-13

Since you asked a question yourself, I will happily answer it!

I tend to use basic word documents but I know people who use google docs. The E forums do allow you to save drafts of posts too!

I generally visit a few times through the day, and tend to be in contact with my RP partners elsewhere as well.
