Most excellent! This won't turn out poorly at all when she has a chat with Liv then. And perhaps I will go with a prisoner reincarnation for another one of my original OCs, for additional Addison scenes @Aethyrium

(I am quite blind and hadn't read that app yet, apologies! was doing a quick search under the roles and didn't see anything)

Doc

OOC Information:
Played By: vin26m
Faceclaim: Karl Urban
Player O/Os: vin26m O/Os

Character Information:
Character Name: Dr. Oliver Payne, "Doc"
Role: Personnel/Crew (chief medical officer)
Age: 40-ish
Personality: Sardonic, curmudgeonly and abrasive, but compassionate and occasionally charming
Sexual Orientation: Straight (mostly)

Character History:

Gifted.  Valedictorian.  Eagle Scout.  All-star.  Doc was a specimen of a human, possibly genetically altered, who was born to a trillionaire couple.

Unlike the rest of his numerous siblings, he didn't have the gene for greed.  He wanted to help people.  His fascination with animals as a boy led to medical school as a man.

Despite all the good luck and talent and preparation, it all came crashing down when his relationship with a woman from an even richer family led to him being cut off and left on his own.

Penniless and ostracized, he could only do what he wanted to do - help people - on a place like this prison ship.

At first, he was just another medic.  And then his consistent stepping up in disasters - such as preventing an engineer from losing her ability to walk - along with attrition and the occasional "accident", led to him eventually being in charge of medical for the crew, the personnel and the prisoners.

He was a natural leader, a consummate professional, an eloquent teacher.

But it was still a gosh darn prison ship.

At least it couldn't get any worse...

Relevant skills:

Medicine - Doc has fixed more injuries and cured more illnesses than he can count.

Biology - If an animal exists, he knows about it.

Survival - Thanks to his time being an Eagle Scout, safari hunting with his family, and nerd-ing out on animal lore, he's skilled at animal identification, tracking, hunting, skinning, butchering and cooking.

Wrestling/Judo/Jiujitsu - After competing in high school and college and then dealing with unruly prisoners, Doc can take down an opponent without injury, put them to sleep, dislocate their joints, or hit them with a planet.

Marksmanship - He's a decent shot with rifles, pistols and bows.

Extras:
Likes: "Nothing."  Chocolate.  Alcohol.  Cannabis.
Dislikes: "Everything."  Bureaucracy.  Hypocrisy.  Profanity.
Sexual role: Mostly dominant, mostly top
Connections: If another character has gotten wounded or sick, Doc most probably attended to them.  If they're an attractive woman (or a really attractive man), he's at least attempted to be charming and flirtatious with them.

Aethyrium

We just sent out the first wave of approvals for characters. If you didn't get one yet, don't worry, just waiting for Peachy and I to have a chance to touch base. We'll have some more going out tomorrow.

And some other details to come. Discord and more!

Plus I'll reply to some stuff that's to me here tonight, soon as I have a minute. Busy day!

Or does this setting not have androids at all?

Androids definitely exist, yeah. I'm thinking they aren't completely trusted, though. So - yes? Computer security would be handled by AI of some kind. But only as a supplement to human programmers/software engineers.

Annnddddd I have a Discord server now, so just ask me or @Aethyrium for an invite!

I have an excite to see your sheet. I suspect that Addi probably ended up spending a fair bit of time in the library - either researching or documenting. So there's probably something there for sure.

No worries whatsoever! I am very interested in showcasing people's fun creations and digging into all the gloriousness and potential goriessness of their backgrounds. And all of the mind fuckery of the new situation to boot!

Want Doc to have patched up Talyra after an industrial accident?

Yes, most definitely.  Thanks.  Do you want to get specific about the injuries she sustained?

Quote from: Nowherewoman on May 07, 2025, 10:15:35 PMDoc might also have used Van as an orderly from time to time- she knows a lot about pain :D

Yeah, that works for me, too.  Thanks.  She could have impressed Doc with her anatomical knowledge, perhaps suggested something Doc hadn't thought of when treating someone.

Ye. Would have to be something small enough to not be a major character point, but larger enough to be something she thanks Doc for fixing/saving her for. I already have the idea of her having PTSD from surviving a station collapse, so I don't want to overwrite that trauma. Could have him be the one handling her long term physical therapy. Could also use that to make her more reliant on her exoskeleton; long term physical trauma means she needs it to function normally as a prosthesis.

Speaking of trauma, @Aethyrium, would Addison Hayes treat crew as well, or just criminals? Could have her handling the psychological side of Talya's therapy.

Sorry if that was rambling.

Jinx Holloway

OOC Information:
Played By: Revna
Faceclaim: Austin White
Player O/Os: Revna O/Os

Character Information:
Character Name: Jinx Holloway
Role: Prisoner
Age: 29
Personality: Outwardly chipper, energetic, flirtatious, and full of mischief. Always cracking jokes, making inappropriate comments, or bursting into spontaneous laughter. But under that playful exterior is a coiled spring of fury and vengeance. Her sense of humor veers dark, twisted, and sharp. Prone to violent outbursts when pushed, though she prefers chaos that feels like play. Think sugar-coated carnage.
Sexual Orientation: Pansexual

Character History:
Jinx grew up in a tightly controlled household—a religious, image-obsessed family where perfection was demanded and emotions were repressed. Her older brother, the golden child, died under mysterious circumstances that were quietly swept under the rug. Jinx was blamed and institutionalized, though no charges stuck. When she got out, she snapped.
Over the course of 13 days, Jinx left a trail of bodies—each tied to the conspiracy that buried the truth about her brother's death. She wore a smile through the entire spree, always leaving behind lipstick prints and "thank you" notes. She was finally caught mid-laugh, bloodied and barefoot in a her brother's old jersey.

Relevant skills:
  • Master of manipulation and emotional disarming.
  • Highly agile and combat-capable (improvised weapons are a specialty)
  • Expert in stealth and infiltration.
  • Sharp-witted and dangerous in psychological warfare.
  • Chemical knowledge (poisons, gas, and hallucinogens—she makes her own "party favors")

Extras:
Likes: Dancing, fruit (like  really, really likes fruit), humor, puppies and kittens, sunshine and daisy crowns.
Dislikes: Meanie heads who don't like to have fun, chocolate, seriousness, coffee and rude behaviors.
Sexual role: Top leaning switch
Connections: OPEN

Outcast

An attempt to adapt my lightly-cybered librarian from the previous iteration of the game - trying to convert her from being the lead in that department, to someone with another prison-ship-relevant string to her bow...

Work in progress
Helena Montfort

OOC Information:
Played By: Outcast
Faceclaim: Aline Mineiro
Player O/Os: Link

Character Information:
Character Name: Helena Montfort
Role: Personnel: Prison librarian and educator ('open' role); computer security (need-to-know)
Age: 35
Personality: Nerdy, optimistic, hard-working.  Tries to be brave.  At times overly intellectual.
Sexual Orientation: Lesbian (with long experience of dealing with excited men in her prior role)

Character History:
* Slum kid who thought that the only well-paid jobs open to poor people were in crime or entertainment.  She had a head for numbers and a knack for code, but little prospect of formal qualification or a meaningful career.  She couldn't sing very well... but she could dance, which seemed to offer a path to a better life.
* Many others had the same sort of idea, and she wound up working in seedy clubs rather than on-stage with global stars.  Still, she was good enough (and smart enough) to learn about her art, her bosses, and her customers.
* Once she saved up enough money, she picked up better kit and more training, trying to become more of an artist on both keyboard and stage.  Her eclectic approach (and lack of concern for strict legality) helped to provide her with a wide-ranging and unconventional education in computers and code.
* Unfortunately, when the police raided the criminally-owned club she worked in she got caught up in the mayhem.  With officers and bystanders injured, the prosecutors opted to throw the book at everyone they could: Helena was not deemed to merit support from the criminal group's own lawyers, and duly wound up in prison... if only for a few years, given the limited evidence against her.
* While inside, Helena was drawn into the novel world of academic learning, courtesy of a rather inspirational librarian who managed to persuade her that she could aspire to change her life.  By the time she was released on parole, she had gained her first formal qualifications - and had letters of recommendation to community colleges so that she could take things further.
* For most of the next decade, dancing paid the bills while Helena studied where and when she could.  She began working as a volunteer with prisoners... and a few years ago won full-time formal employment in the prison service.  Her unconventional education, and pronounced distaste for the kind of organised criminals who had profited from and then abandoned her, persuaded a risk-taking human resources director that she was a good bet for computer security work.
* She has continued studying - including practical topics, most notably by picking up first aid certification while also taking the mandatory self defence classes very seriously - and after cruising through a computer science degree, she is presently in the early stages of work on a rather different post-graduate thesis (examining the creation of communities and systems of social identification in artificial environments, such as long-term space travel or incarceration).  More directly, she hopes that the 'public' side of her work in the library will give her the opportunity to inspire at least a couple of inmates in the same way that she herself was inspired.

Relevant skills:
Born-Again Nerd:  Though she only came to it as an adult, Helena is a committed bibliophile and all-around geek.  She knows a little about a lot - though most of it is irrelevant to what most people might regard as reality.
Dancer:  For most of her adult life, Helena made her living dancing in clubs - rarely of the respectable kind.  She has the fitness, balance, and coordination provided by long-term work in the gym and on-stage.
Electronic Scavenger: Not so much an electrical engineer as a tinkerer.  Much of her kit, from childhood onwards, was cobbled together from repaired and repurposed parts.
Ex-Con Made Good:  Though it was only a shortish stint in medium security, her time in prison gave Helena some insights that books could not have done - as well as her fresh start in life.
First Aid:  Building on practical knowledge of her own and colleagues' injuries across many years, Helena has received formal training as a first-aider to help with her role aboard the prison ship.  She's no paramedic, but knows a lot about bandages, strapping, splints, and stitching.
Self-Defence:  Though not remotely an expert, Helena has learned enough to surprise people who assume she's simply a push-over.  Street-smart dirty tricks from her youth have now been supplemented with a couple of formal courses from her employers.
Tutor:  Having benefited from an unexpected opportunity to receive an education, Helena's keen to provide the same chance to others who feel similarly down-and-out.  She has now been trained to provide varying degrees of lesson to interested adults, with the added insight gained from her own experiences.

Character motivation:

Learn, build, and try to make things better.  Help people to have a second chance if they want one.

Extras:
Likes: Books, dancing (for fun rather than profit), healthy exercise, peace and quiet, managing to think, intelligent conversation, learning and discovery, people helping each other.
Dislikes: Bullying, thoughtlessness, loss of knowledge or beauty.
Sexual role: Switch
Favourite Kinks: Pretty and / or athletic women in general.  Anal, being admired, exhibitionism, kissing and cuddling, spanking.
Limits:  Bodily waste, torture (emotional or physical).  Others that aren't coming to mind.
Connections:  ~  none as yet!

ThisOneGal

Helena and Talyra can probably bond over their shared history of salvaging scrap to make it work.

It would be great if we could get some guys up in here. If you're looking to play, and want to be surrounded by a gaggle of lovely ladies most of whom are... Probably filled with red flags, but who looks at that anyway, then now is your chance!

But aside from encouraging people, I don't know that we're going to do anything about it. Just have to be a bunch of very capable kickass women. We can make our own dicks!

If I had the bandwidth I'd bring in one or two menfolk, but alas, I am tapped out.

Liv will have zero interest in men beyond a bit of rough flirting to throw them off guard. 😂

And she'd be one of the people who knew of Helena's covert role as the white-hat hacker on board.  From the look of it, Talyra might be the prime candidate for nerdy bonding over code-fu, too.  ;)

Quote from: Fiadh on May 08, 2025, 02:18:19 PMI'm so happy to see her returned! And so is Liv <3

Checking, I see that the previous game's write-up for a connection was:

* Livina: an actual friend, with whom contact is likely to be actively maintained in the longer term.  From being unable to explain quite what she wanted, to dropping in for amicable chats and accepting help with meditation - Helena is proud of the progress the soldier-turned-XO has made, and sees her as someone she has actually managed to help.

They might have had more 'professional' contact this time around - given Helena's computer-security role, I'd imagine that the XO would be one of the people she had to brief on any concerns, and who could draft her to help with the ship's systems.

Quote from: Nowherewoman on May 08, 2025, 02:30:31 PMVan would hit that.

Just saying,  :P

*snerks*  Definitely no boinking of the inmates aboard Charon, for Helena.  She hopes to inspire via different means!  ;D

@Aethyrium It looks as if Addison would be not just another nerd, but someone whose interests overlap - Helena looking at community-building and group identity, while Addison focuses more on individual identities.

Perfect, yes. They would have much more professional contact this time around with Helena's new tech position. I could see Liv coming around Helena's post at the securiy bay for briefings and if she wanted to send Liv any updates on the systems or other concerns she may have picked up. Liv is still floundering in her personal life so some literary refuge and company would be most welcome, too!
