I'm interested in this!  I've been wanting to play Lancer for a bit.  Is there any kind of group or constraint that should be kept in mind?

Marie Reynolds

Will we be getting any information on the unit we are joining and the Corporate Patron or sponsor. Should we just leave how we joined up with the unit  blank when preparing our backstory to submit a character?

The Corporate Patron/sponsor will be mysterious when recruiting, as far as they know, it is "a job" protecting assets from pirates or assassins. They'd expect this job to be less politically motivated and not as overwhelming as a war. Once they get together for their first meeting and briefing, the Corporate Patron will reveal itself and what the job is!

Marie Reynolds

@lux89  Okay, So we have no group that we  got recruited by  because the way the Lancers are Freelancers would not have the resources to acquire mechs, gear and Licenses. So not  really sure how that would work with just getting picked up by a Corporate Patron/sponsor and thrown into a mech with no training the same day.  Like are we a Merc unit  that  has picked up a Patron/sponsor.

Exactly, you have been mercs already trained with mechs already that a Corp has recruited. Since you are at LL0, you have the least experience and direly need this job to get better mech and highly-paid jobs in the future.

Marie Reynolds

@lux89 Okay Cool! Any name for  the Merc unit or will that be decided by the  group when we  have  accepted Players?

Revelation

Do we have any sort of character submission outlines/guidelines you'd like us to follow? I'm not exactly sure on character yet. I'd probably like my character's mechs to be up close and personal/brawler in style, though. Blackbeard seems nice.

I’m also looking at an up close and personal but we can have more than one.

We start with access to the Everest and that’s it, but we can get access to others later.

There are actually a few variant GMS mecha now - though I suppose that raises the question on if we're just allowed
the Chomolungma and Sagarmatha. The former is better at hacking if I recall, and Sagarmatha is a more heavy style GMS frame.

ThisOneGal

I'm going to pick up Caliban once we get some LLs.

Puts on the Doom soundtrack.

Revelation

If everyone is kinda wanting to be up close, I can also always see about more ranged firepower or possibly support.

Marie Reynolds

All starting characters get the Everest. Then when  we level up and get LL1 that's when you can start leveling up your GMS license or acquire a  license for the other Mech producing companies Though always a good idea to now what you want to take later.

The Corp will give a code name for your unit as well as individual code names but you all can agree on your unit's name eventually during the mission when that comes up!

It appears that while Marie Reynolds is correct, Revelation is also correct; indeed according to recent DLC updates, Chomolungma and Sagarmatha are also available to LL0 if you'd like those as well!

Ooh, I am sorely tempted.  Let me dig through my inspiration folder and see if anything jumps out at me.

Revelation

I'm kinda grooving with some basic character concepts pilot wise, I'll jot them down below.

1) Young pirate hunter who worked for a branch of IPS-N who quickly proved themselves to be an ace pilot - unfortunately this lead to a schism between them and the company where they branched off to look for work & a chance to make a name for themselves elsewhere.

2) Someone who worked in Smith-Shimano's Constellar Security forces, maybe their squad got got wiped out save themself and 1-2 others despite requesting support from the company. As such, they abandoned post and went rogue. Probably has a chip against Smith-shimano if I go with this character.

3) Independent/Lone colonist who took up piloting some sort of junk frame when pirates attacked their world, finding themselves to be an adept/knack at piloting frames in battle. As such, elected to take to the stars and is more of a bright eyed idealist.

I'm using ambiguous gender language just because I haven't decided on gender yet. That'll get solidified with time.

Sounds like good ideas Revelations. For the IPS-N Pirate hunter Maybe you were Inspired by Order of Knights Known as Albatross. They also have an alliance with IPS-N.
@lux89 Where would you find the other GMS models. Cause I have been playing around with the Idea of being Electronic Warfare specialist.

Chomolungma is from Operation Solstice Rain, and Sagarmatha is from No Room for a Wallflower if I recall.

Also the links I posted in the following quote should have their stats as well.

I'll also focus on ranged, perhaps even just sticking with an Everest.  I'm thinking about someone who was engineered for battle and escaped their circumstance and is trying to find something in life that isn't just endless battle, the classic type mecha archetype.

That was slightly the idea I had with Idea #2, the ex-Smith-Shimano pilot. I was figuring they'd be genetically modded at birth and such. Not meant to dissuade you from the idea, just thought it was funny we had similar ideas, haha. It's a good archetype for a reason!

AndyZ

You could both be from the same batch.

It does sound like a lot of fun!  And yeah, as Andy said, I'd be happy to collaborate with a background if you go with that idea and we're both picked!

Marie Reynolds

I am going with some with  the Spacebound background that called  a Space Station called Spectacle Terminal, It  is located on a major trade route  for Inter Union trade in the  Core of the  Union system. It was made to  have Market place on one level, On another level it had entertainment facilities some examples where arcades. Movie theatres, restaurants and bars. A level for one of its major attractions, An obstacle  course that required Agility, speed, strength endurance and a level head to get through. Cause the track also had physical and electronic locks to by pass to get to the goal and Some of the obstacles also had elements that someone familiar w

Gasp yep someone who got to use hacking and locking picking  not to do crime but for entertainment as a Job.  Though My character worked  as part of the staff that  kept the Obstacle course in good repair and tested the Obstacles to make sure the worked and operated safely so  the Athletes that competed had a safe yet Challenging obstacle course to compete  against. I am also thinking this is how either an officer or the Commander  of  the merc unit. Saw what I could do and invited me for a interview and an offer to join the Merc unit.  Also I have an idea that either the Commander  or office of the Mech unit gave the call sign of Parkour to my character.

This is the rough draft of my characters history.

Terian

I was hoping to give the Minotaur a spin myself.

Haven't quite got it locked in, but I'm down to two concepts:

Sister Moira Blooming - "Mercy"
Target Frame:  Saladin

Sister Blooming is part of a small-time techno cult that's spread its way through several star systems by hitching rides on whatever transport will take them.  To the general populace, they're thought of as a good samaratin group who go out of their way to establish clinics among the downtrodden.  In truth, their goals revolve around human augmentation, so examining and cataloguing the varying hereditary modifications made to colonist populations is something of a holy writ to them, and if it allows them to plug into counter culture body-mod scenes as affordable specialists that's all the better.  Blooming is hoping to use her corporate contract to help springboard a new colony mission, with an eye towards establishing a new holy land for her church.

Trixie Dixon - "Dirt"
Target Frame:  Swallowtail

Trixie is a local to the world where The Corp is headquartered; her old man was a Lancer pilot, and he died in the cockpit.  She never thought she'd climb into one of those walking tombs herself, instead becoming a police detective -- but when big money makes the rules, the law becomes just another cudgel to keep the people in line.  A murder kept pointing to a cover-up of corruption in the Corp's halls of powers, but the department kept throwing road blocks in front of her.  When she got stubborn, a hitman put two in her back, while her partner was conspicuously absent.  Seething as she recovered in the hospital, she watched her investigation get quietly disappeared ... and while she was drafting her resignation letter to the department, the colony NHP pinged her as a potential Lancer candidate.  Working as a corporate mechjock, she has no authority to resume her old investigation ... but there was a conspiracy afoot, and as long she could stay alive on the battlefield, she owed someone two bullets.
