Fixing my inbox?

I feel like I've been in this help section too much, lol.

So, I've been trying to fix my inbox so I can see what I need to see (and not see what I don't) and I've fixed parts of it... but I can't seem to find the setting where I can label/sort conversations? Typically I like to have folders for conversations with partners I am currently playing with, partners I want to play with in the future, active PM roleplays, and people I want to remember for a variety of reasons, etc. But I can't find how to do that. I found the setting that says " Remove the inbox label when applying another label" and I can find the "manage label" setting to create the labels, but I cannot figure out how to assign the labels to the conversations.

Can someone direct me to that?

So the PM Labels are a little...chaotic. Consequence of SMF being a little bit of a mess, no one's fault, just like...how it is?

You can go to your Messages, then hit Preferences, then hit Manage Labels.

Here, you can create a Label Name.

Navigate back to your Inbox. See the white checkboxes off to the right? Click as many as you want to organize. Scroll down. There is a "Label selected" section. Click this, and then scroll to your new label name, and click it. It's gonna automatically sort to that label name.

So Labels are really chaotic. My advice:

1) Never delete a Label Name once you create one, not unless you re-categorize EVERYTHING out of that Label.

2) Be very certain when you assign a PM to a Label. Sometimes things will "stick" and be hard to organize. Once you assign a Label, it might be hard to get it off of there. Hypothetically the same setting that lets you add a Label lets you Remove a Label (you'll see what I mean when you take a peek at the setting), but it's finicky.

3) A lot of people prefer to never delete PMs, but...here's the deal. If you have a PM that isn't about plotting or from someone close to you, and you like to Label everything? Consider deleting extraneous PMs in order to prevent less "oh no" if you have a Label mistake.

That's about the best advice I can give! I can provide screenshots if necessary if navigating Labels is still feeling a little weird/hard to intuit!

Well, that warning is a little scary, but I appreciate it. I would have been back here tearing out my hair later, haha! I am now very nervous.

It looks like the drop down to assign the label didn't appear until I had actually made a label, so I feel kind of silly.

Yeah, that first Label is especially confusing! Glad you got it figured out, and if you need any more help, just holler!
