Is there a way to practice the code before I post?

So, I know I can't post a request thread yet(it would be adult), and I read the bumping policies, so I am trying to be careful about it. Please forgive me if this is a weird question.

I like my Request Threads to look pretty and nice and organized. But it seems like the posting options and code are different from what I am used to, and I don't want to copy/paste my RT from other sites over here. I want to make something special and different for here, since I have different interests. Based on other sites, if I make too many changes without saving/uploading I start getting errors and spacing issues and code duplications. I also want to have a nice RT for if/when I can start posting in the big boards.

Is there a way for me to practice my thread/code? Even without any content in it, so I can write the content in later from a google doc?

I would suggest doing so in your DMs, that's what I do! So you can send one to yourself and practice code and what not, then just copy and paste it into a thread whenever you're ready to!

KittenTrix

Oh, so I would just send it to myself? That's cool! I will definitely try that once I can PM. Thank you!

Unfortunately you can't DM them as an unapproved member.

It's been 1,000 years since I was unapproved so i don't remember; do you have a preview button at the bottom of your posts?

KittenTrix

I do have the preview button, but I have found on other sites either the amount of code I like to use, or the amount of changes I make, if I don't update the post every now and then it starts to have errors with spacing and codes duplicating. It looks great on preview and then when I post it looks wonky and I check the code and it's got random bits.

Once I can pm though, that will work for me. I just didn't want to "waste" my one post on an ugly thread. I feel like my rt is a first impression for roleplay partners and I really want to make it a good one, haha 😄.

There's a bit of that here, usually if you miss an end-tag in the coding or are doing tables. Preview will generally show it, though, if you check it after you fix any issues you see the first time around.

Approved members have the ability to edit posts (except in the PRoC) so even if a mistake is posted, it can usually be corrected via edit. Every once in a while a post will get 'stuck' where it won't edit properly, but these are usually significantly long/code-heavy posts, and I've only run into the issue twice myself, and one of the two times it sorted itself out after a week or two.

Something you can do also is making a thread just to practice making a request thread. I did this at one point and called it posting and codes oh my or something like that. Although I dont think you have access to Finders and Seekers before approval, that is where I put it.
