Where can I find the information about voluntarily being put on hiatus, or even the removal of one's account?

Members who are On Hiatus have requested a voluntary account restriction for a specific length of time, in increments of three, six, or nine months.  Reasons for this include military service, hospital stays, or other extended absences. The On Hiatus group gives temporarily unused accounts greater security. If you wish to have your account changed to the On Hiatus membergoup, please contact a staff member.

it seems kinda hidden but I found the details. E doesn't delete accounts fully so your options are to go on hiatus or ask them to lock your account in some way I guess? PM a mod and see.

You can't really link to a search.

Basically, Hiatus is a way of making sure your account is safe if you aren't going to be using it for more than 3 months.  It can also be used as a way to keep yourself from accessing E when you really shouldn't (busy seasons at work, last quarter before graduation, etc.)  The three-month mark is a minimum.  The account won't be unlocked unless you specifically ask for it to be (in a special board that only hiatused people can see).
