Hello! This is a dark science-fiction plot pitch, inspired by my current run of Stellaris, intended for the categories of NC Human/NC Exotic/Extreme.
Please see my newly updated O/Os here for most basic information about me before contacting me. Thread or PM roleplay preferred.

One of my primary interests from this is in getting to present a fictional species and culture through my character. By all means, please do the same in return if you want to flex that worldbuilding muscle. If you're uncertain on anything, there is never any harm in asking!

The Scarlet Rooms - our home galaxy, where the clearest night skies are full of red giants and promise mysterious pasts. Like so many cycles before, planetary civilizations were mastering interstellar travel and seeking out prosperity, glory, and truth beyond their home systems. Some find themselves humbled by what they find; signs of ancient civilization and spaceborne life, technologies that make theirs look like toys, and philosophies that challenge one's very idea of what it means to experience reality.  Others are emboldened by the challenge - proof, at last, that better ways and higher heights have already been discovered, and now lie within their grasp.

To travel through space is to become an inheritor. It only seems so empty when one hasn't learned where to look. The Wisdom of Ages, as your people call it, lies out there for each kind of species to receive if only they reach for it. Yet so often we forget that the Wisdom of Ages is built upon learning hard lessons and accepting uncomfortable truths. After all, one person's rise is another person's end, and there are much worse ends to this life than tender, sweet death ...

=====

Your character is one who has managed to join their planet's FTL excursions out of the solar system. Perhaps as a crewmate aboard a government science vessel seeking to learn about the galactic past, or a diplomat working to further first contact with newly discovered neighbors. Maybe they're the employee of an ambitious resource extraction company racing to claim the bounteous minerals of asteroids and exotic gasses of nebulae, or they're a colonist bound for a habitable world long observed by remote landers or celestial telescopes.

My character is an alien intelligence agent working from a forward-operating base on the edge of his people's territories: a blind, bat-like humanoid living in a clandestine state known as the 5th Pledge. His duty is one of national security, serving an intelligence apparatus which has kept their homeworld completely hidden from the intergalactic community while furthering their own interests through constant espionage and covert military action.

By complete chance, your character's path has taken them into the Flying Arrow nebula - unwittingly locating the 5th Pledge's hidden core systems. Maybe they realize the weight of their mistake and try to run. Maybe this is first contact with an alien race, and they unknowingly forge the way deeper. My character is the one tasked with investigating the security breach, and given fiat to handle it... by any means necessary.

But in a society where information is currency and privacy is the ultimate right of its citizens, corruption lives unchecked in the pretty little margins where the ruthless dare to run - and this Pledge agent has only reached his station in life by running fast and running hard.
