Mister March

I am currently playing the Resident Evil games with my wife(she is a lovely passenger gamer and has played all these games before).

We started with Resident Evil 7 and then 8 because she thought I'd like them best. And I did! I love those two the best so far. Village is my favorite and not because of why everyone else likes it(A certain tall Lady). I liked how BIG it was and how much there was to the story and lore. I loved the castle and want to wander in there forever, looting and smashing windows, lol.

Now we started back at 1 and have been playing through the remakes. I just finished 3 not too long ago and it was okay... But it really should have been a part of 2. It was so short.

4 reminds me so much of Village and my wife says that is because they based Village on it. So I feel like I am basically getting an extension of Village here and I am so so happy. I love Luis and hate that Ada is back lol. I really enjoy too how Leon basically hip checks crates and barrels and they just collapse yet when he kicks enemies, it's like "raaaww! Knock their head off!" Lol.

That was one thing I was missing after playing Dead Space 1 and 2, the ability to STOMP. Stomp everything. Stomp the enemy's bodies and loot pops out. Stomp crates and boxes. Stomp and yell! XD so it makes me happy how much looting is done with kicking crates and barrels and how brutal you can be with enemies in RE 4.

What Resident Evil games have you played and which did you like and why?

so when i was a kid i remember i had resident evil 2 on ps1, with a gameshark. i was... 10, at most? so i was pretty scared. the worst part was that i was just using the gameshark cheats willy-nilly and found myself in a sewer with spiders? i have... pretty severe arachnophobia and this probably helped kickstart it into being such an issue (as well as that one scene in george of the jungle where the lady is screaming in the bathroom from the ... yeah. that was where it started)

anyway so i never played it again!

i have played part of the remake, really enjoyed it.

i'm currently playing re5 with a friend on stream, it's so stupid (and controls badly) but there's also a segment with spiders in it and i genuinely screamed because of the action close-up. several times. thankfully i was able to power through that segment with my friend taking care of most of them (apart from the segments we were separated...)

i've not played any of the others, but maybe. one day.

I don't remember spiders in the sewers in 2... Might have been the older version? I played the remake of that one as well. Haven't played 5 or 6 yet. Wife and I might skip em because she says they're trash, lol.

I'm in the last leg on RE 4 just defeated Ramon which was fairly easy. A bit disappointing. The fight with the two blind guys with the super long Wolverine claws was more intense and engaging.

My favorite parts so far are the fights where I had to shoot floods of cultists while trying to keep Ashley safe. Very complicated and a pain in the arse but I liked the challenging aspect of it. I had to redo the clock tower with the big Ramon statue in it though. I got like the last two blue requests that needed Leon to go back to the courtyard and throne room but thought I could do them after the clock tower. But get to the top and the merchant is saying crap like "buy what you need now. No turning back." And stuff like that. And I was like "shit!" And had to reload my last chapter beginning save right when we say goodbye to Luis and had to go venturing back to different parts of the castle and THEN do the WHOLE damn clock tower again. Bah!

Finished RE 4 tonight and... I gotta say, between 7 and 8, this was my favorite. I. Love. Looting. I'm such a slut for loot, man. I don't leave a single crate behind. Even if all that is in it is bullets for a gun I don't hardly use.

I was unimpressed with the final boss. The form was... I dunno. I can't quite put a finger on what bothered me about it. But i much preferred the over the top end form of Nemesis in the remake of 3. That had a natural escalation to it that made sense to me. Ramon was dumb and the final boss in 4 was dumb. In my personal opinion. I'm not sure what all they changed in the remakes(my wife was wailing all during 3 "My boy! Look what they did to my boy, Nemesis!") but this version of 4 felt very much like the monsters and final forms were put in a blender of concepts from previous games and just spat out. However, I really enjoyed the story of 4 and had a great time just exploring the nooks and crannies for every last piece of jewelry i could snag and sell off. I'm such a completionist/collection freak.

I think that Resident Evil 4 is my all time favorite.

I played the village recently, though never finished. I got caught on the platforms in the swamp that are timed, and ended up being distracted so I quit. Haven’t gone back to it yet, but I can just tell it’s going to drive me crazy to attempt to get past there.

It was such a wonderful game and story. Even Leon with his broody looks and angsty story was good.

You mean the DLC content? I haven't played that yet. My wife says it was so good though. That and Biohazard.

Possibly? I am not sure if it was DLC or not. My son set it all up and told me to play it since he knows I love resident evil. But good grief that part is a killer. lol

I have played some version of every Resident Evil main-series game except Code Veronica.

My personal favorite is probably going to be 4 and RE4make. I really did like VII and VIII and generally felt they finally learned how to properly kill a character off. Generally though it feels like RE9 is going to be another direction for the series yet again. The series doesn't seem to age well even though their are individual games that seem evergreen.

Seriously, they've hinted heavily at an RE5make, and that game is only from 09. I'm not going to say no to more Jill for personal reasons, but still...
If you're searching the lines for a point, well you've probably missed it; there was never anything there in the first place.

Resident Evil is my favorite game series! I consider RE4 (original or remake, they're both equally fantastic) to be one of the greatest games of all time. It was incredibly influential on games as a whole, but also is just a wonderfully bombastic story with a great protagonist, colorful villains, and infinite replayablilty.

I actually have a really big gripe with Village, because it tried so hard to emulate RE4, but left out one very important aspect for me: there's pretty much zero reason to put any thought into your gear. One of my favorite things about RE4 is how diverse the weapons are, if you upgrade your starting pistol all the way through the game, it's just as viable as any other. Each weapon has their own unique quirks that make them all stand on their own. Some have more stopping power, others better penetration or accuracy. They are all equally viable and it makes replaying the game that much more fun! In Village, every time you came across the next gun, it was just flat out better than whatever you currently had on you. Sure, the new pistol might take a couple of upgrades to surpass the one you're currently using, but it will surpass it, and the next one after that will do the same. There wasn't any reason to diversify my arsenal like RE4, and I thought it took something away from the experience.

All that said though, I love the gothic horror atmosphere. I think I prefer 7 just because I am an a huge, huge fan of the properties they drew inspiration from, particularly the Evil Dead and Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

And I agree with your assessment on R3make. Jill is my favorite Resident Evil character, so it really hurt to see her get short changed.

Your term "passenger gamer" I had not heard before but describes me exactly lol   Whether on the couch next to the actual gamer or watching someone do a lets-play on YT.

It's especially the case with horror games.

I cannot imagine playing the Village RE game myself or by myself, for example.

So the only one I've played was Resident Evil 5 (coop with my SO) but that one felt more like an action game than a horror so it wasn't so bad.

Swordsman18

I am a Resident Evil junkie, I have played through all of the Remakes, 5, 6, and 8. I did not play 7 for whatever reason. I think it was that 6 had kind of burned me due to the format, action style and what not. I own it but have not gone back to since I saw what happened to the characters in 8.

What I really love is that the first playthrough is the survival horror playthrough but when you go back through, get access to infinite ammo and what not you can really punish the baddies. I did 5 playthroughs of Village and 7 of RE4 Remake because of that. For example the scene in the opening village of RE4 ends for me not because of time or getting hurt, it is because I am killing the Las Plagas too fast. Basically if you are too good, it also ends early. And that is due to the infinite handgun, shotgun, and magnum I have.

I saw all that to say I wish more games did this where once you play it or beat challenges and earn stuff, you can legally cheat the system.

Silvered Sutures

I personally only played the first and last three, so i can't speak to 4 and 5's quality, but the original and it's janky gameplay will always have a special place in my heart...

...also, I prefered the daughter to the tall lady, personally.
