We should probably move any further questions across to the OOC thread.

When coming up with a character concept, how powerful and / or experienced should I imagine my heretic to be? I mean, would a psyker be a minor telepath or powerful ex-cult leader?

Also: how does one actually become a rogue psyker? A minor psyker would probably be sent to Astra Telepathica for training... or just fed to the Golden Throne. But wouldn't a powerful psyker be just shot on sight? Kind of wonder how these things go...

While I approve and support the suggestion made by @HairyHeretic to move discussions over to the OOC thread, I do want to respond to this question where the answer will be connected with the question. Please post any new questions in the thread that I linked on the previous page  :-)

From my reading, the Psyker in the Black Crusade rulebooks seems to be someone who a) never got sucked into the Imperial system of Sanctioned Psykers run by the Adeptus Astra Telepathica or b) escaped before actually participating in the system. In particular, it distinguishes between Chaos Space Marine Sorcerers who are Bound, with their psychic powers restrained to some extent, and human Psykers who are Unbound. Imperial Psykers seem to generally count as Bound, as do all Space Marine psykers as far as I can tell. The system doesn't currently seem to include an option for a human psyker who goes through the conditioning of the Adeptus Astra Telepathica, becoming Bound, and then decides to turn to Chaos, like a Radical Inquisitor.

One option for addressing this that I'm considering, if that's the kind of story you want to tell, would be allowing the Psyker to have their Psy Rating 3 while having the Bound option instead of defaulting to Unbound, if that fits with the character concept that the player has in mind.

But if you didn't want to go that route, then the answer for where a Psyker Archetype character might come from would be that they were someone who was born on a world ruled by the Imperium but discovered their powers in between visits by the Black Ships, or they might have been born outside of the rule of the Imperium, on one of the worlds of the Screaming Vortex or somewhere else that the Black Ships would not visit.

Are you still open to new players? HairyHeretic implied you were in a game we have together (or at least, I inferred it).

pilgrimofpain

We've made fairly slow progress so I really wouldn't object another entry personally.

Krayz

I have no issues with another player joining!

It might be better to have the group meet your character when they go down to the surface of the planet they're orbiting currently, but we can just retcon you into the group if folks find that preferable.

HairyHeretic

No objections to a retcon from me
