What kind of dice rolling are you asking about participation in?

I was under the impression that the Elliquiy dicebot had been removed!

And I was talking about pretty much everything. Characteristic/Skill Tests, Combat, etc.

If there's a Dicebot built into the website, we can just use that. I just didn't want to deal with the hassle of figuring out something third-party.

HairyHeretic

It came back recently, I believe. I mostly use dice rollers on the discord channels I belong to.

I don't mind either rolling dice myself or having the GM roll them.

Alexandra would probably try to convince the others that it would be for the best to give Karnak Zul  a host

As to the name, I might be interested in resolving that in character

It does seem like the other two are pretty strongly opposed, so without a particularly good argument for changing their minds, I would assume she fails to persuade them.

Figuring out the name in character sounds good to me! I just wanted to bring this one to people's attention so they could think about it  :-)

Alexandra is charismatic as well as patient, If the demon's posistion is otherwise stable, there is no reason to rush things.

Eduardus could be convinced to give the dude another host if he feels the space marine could defeat it in combat. 1) because he is a curious being so seeing the effects of the warp on a body would be interesting. 2) because even though he strongly disagrees, he imagines any problems the creature causes will be Alexanderia's problem first... which then would likely be solved by an angry space marine. Lol

He still doesn't think the entity would be a boon. More like a dangerous curiosity. So adamant in his opinion, but not enough to stop the train wreck if one insists on it.

Just to clarify, Karnak Zul doesn't care about getting a new host if you're not looking to use him in the battle against the Inquisitorial Acolytes. He just wants to be freed from the binding wards and allowed to go on his merry way.

Plus a few more background details: Karnak Zul claims to be the reason that the Heretics are alive, and there's some proof to support his statement, as the rest of the stasis pods killed their prisoners with plasma-bursts when the power began to fail. Also, he provided a psychic warning to the group when the Acolytes attempted to gain control of the murder-servitors that patrol the ship.

HairyHeretic

If he's just going to murder some lackeys of the Throne and then disappear, Draugr would be ok with that.

If he's going to stick around, there needs to be a kill switch on him.

He's not looking to stick around, but he will need a ride down to the surface of... wherever you happened to drop out of the Warp.

Also, another thing he offers the group to barter for his freedom is help navigating through the Screaming Vortex, since you don't have a Navigator.

(I didn't mention it before because the scenario assumes you could get by without his help, but you'd probably know more about your destination with his aid)

Hey everyone, I have an OOC thread up now!

From now on, I'd like to move any discussions we're having about the game over there, and keep this thread just for recruitment.

I posted a Character Sheet template that you can use, let me know if you think it's missing anything. I also posted a summary of the changes to the usual Character Creation process that were approved in this thread, so send me a message to discuss any customizations you'd like to make to your Character based on those guidelines.

Edit: Oops, forgot to include the link!

Quote from: Beorning on November 24, 2024, 11:06:43 AMOh oh! Black Crusade!

Can I play? :)

Yes  ;D

Just keep in mind that, to let everyone enjoy the game without constant fear of kidney-shanks, there is an OOC agreement that players/characters have to be able to cooperate.

Short term circumstances are kind of forcing the issue, but your character has to be compatible with the rest of the Heretics in the long term as well.

To summarize: your characters woke up from stasis on an Inquisitorial prison-ship that experienced a prison-break and got lost in the Warp ~200 years ago. You've managed to take control of the ship, including the feral cannibal tribes that descended from the survivors of the crew and prisoners, and have escaped into the Screaming Vortex. And the game will pick up from there  XD

Beorning

Sounds good!

I have a question: how long until the game starts? I see that everyone else seems to have their characters worked out, so I wouldn't want to make people wait for me.

I wouldn't mind personally, we might even be able to help in char creation if you would like.

So far we have a

Nightlord Forsaken- Space marine edgelord(I say this with affection)

A Heretek- (Machine stuffs.)

and myself with an apostate ( Charismatic cult leader.)

a psyker could be quite fun, we're also not terribly melee focused at the moment, so I could see just leaning into that being quite fun.

Beorning

So, a Psyker or a Renegade...

Question: can Psykers be also capable in combat or in social matters? I don't know the system yet (although I have all the books), so I'm not sure how narrow the archetypes are.

As for the cooperation issue - is there a specific long-term goal you guys agreed on?

HairyHeretic

I think the initial idea would be to find a way to build a power base. We have a ship, we just lack crew. I figure we can try to find the local pirates and see who likes to keep their entrails inside their bodies wants to sign on with us.  :)

Looking through the Psychic Powers list, I think there are probably more choices for combat available, but there are definitely options for social matters as well.

Psychic Powers aside, a Sorcerer is probably just about as capable in combat as any other Chaos Space Marine Archetype. The human Archetypes get more Experience Points during Character Creation, giving you more flexibility to build your character a particular way, and the Psyker is a bit more psychically powerful than the Sorcerer is out of the gate, but would be much more fragile than the Sorcerer in a fight.

Either of them have at least some options for Starting Skills or Talents that can be useful in social encounters.

I think I'll doing the human psyker / witch... It feels more interesting than a purely martial character.

Okay, another question:

When coming up with a character concept, how powerful and / or experienced should I imagine my heretic to be? I mean, would a psyker be a minor telepath or powerful ex-cult leader?

Also: how does one actually become a rogue psyker? A minor psyker would probably be sent to Astra Telepathica for training... or just fed to the Golden Throne. But wouldn't a powerful psyker be just shot on sight? Kind of wonder how these things go...

A starting Heretic has about a 1000 xp to spend and is pretty dangerous, probably capable of great amounts of destruction with their psyker powers.

It could be a cult leader, or even just an individual that has learned a lot of dark secrets possibly from the chaos gods. Rogue psyker is basically just a term for any Psyker that isn't trained by the Astra Telepathica, it could be that YC lived outside of the imperium, in a place that was too unstable to allow visits from the black ships, or was somehow hidden from them for whatever reason. Maybe your family is full of heretics that have hidden away in a hive-world, these are just a few ideas.

Whether a Psyker is shot on sight has less to do with how powerful they are, and more with how stable they're deemed by the custodians of the black ships. A really powerful psyker that seems like they would stay sane is going to be trained, and a less powerful one is actually liklier to just be sacrificed to the golden throne.
