Welcome everyone,

What started off as a old interest has turned into a thriving game with much more room for growth. Please join us in our very own adventures, and build a world with us. We are open for all and eager to meet new writing partners along the way. We pride ourselves on being LGBTQ+ friendly and encourage it. If you have any questions don't hesitate to contact our GM team: BlueEyedBard, TinkerToy and/or Lalu.

There is a place, hidden from the modern human world. Away from the average and unimaginative, the humdrum of what people expect from life. A place where magic thrives and the mystical is commonplace. A place so tainted with darkness that the average person couldn't even see it if they wanted to.
When humans took over the world and pushed out all those they once called "Fairy Folk", there was one place for them to go, one safe haven from the modern world. This place was Darkwood City.

Nestled deep in the Dark Woods, that most avoid due to stories of hauntings and other such ominous warnings, the City of Darkwood stands and thrives like many other modern day cities. Except that Darkwood never has commuters to and from the city, because everyone in Darkwood lives and works there, and have long given up all hope of ever leaving. Not that hope would do them any good, because once someone finds themselves in Darkwood, they're trapped in the city of shadows for life…

~♤♡◇♧~

Hello, and welcome to this dark and gritty fairy tale game, Darkwood City!

Together we have already begun to build an adventure into a world of shady deals, dark intentions and a sandbox full of fun and debauchery. We invite new and current players to continue with the creation of characters and storylines to go along or against the upcoming events that are about to unfold.

For this game we would like people to choose from established fairytale or folklore characters, mind you they do not necessarily have to be from the Grimm lexicon, or even from a western fairytale. Just keep reasonable limits on power in mind, meaning: don't ask to play a god, or anyone with godlike abilities. Even regular magic is going to be regulated, so really every character should be on par with each other.
Along with choosing an existing character, we also would like you to give them a gritty twist! The Madd Hatter as a drug dealer, Mary (quite contrary…) as a drug farmer…
Now they don't all have to do with drugs, but you get what I mean. Give these magical characters an underworld makeover!

Below you'll find a bit of world building info that will detail the history of Darkwood, how magic is used, and what is going on right now in the city of Darkwood. But to put it short:

For the first time in as long as anyone can remember, the mayor of Darkwood is being opposed in the upcoming election!

The mayor, as everyone knows, has been the head of the largest crime syndicate in the city since before it was Darkwood, and has been using their position to strengthen their hold on the community to the point that they have their hands in nearly every illegal dealing that takes place in the Dark Woods. With the police as their thugs, crime is the number one job to be had, and with the profits going back to shape the city to the mayor's liking, Darkwood has become a shining jewel of sin.

The mayor's opponent represents a moral wave meant to wash through the city, and not clean up the streets, but ultimately crush the life out of the decay that has infested Darkwood for so long. They intend to bring law to Darkwood by any means necessary, and they come backed by their own police force who intend to uphold the law with terminal intent.

The sudden opposition to the mayor's law has created quite the impact on the population in general. While most seem to be happy with the criminal tyrant they already know, many have begun to support a turn toward moral order. Even if they themselves profit from the current state of crime in the city…

World building info:
History
Nobody knows for sure just how long Darkwood city has been around, but it's generally believed that the Dark Woods had always existed. But had people always been there? Who built the city? Why are fairy folk drawn there? These were questions that were apparently so unanswerable that people have given up asking. What people know is that: sin, greed, and corruption is what runs Darkwood city, the mob bosses control everything, and Maleficent controls the bosses, and the police. Another thing that everyone knows is that Maleficent is the mayor of Darkwood city. She, almost, always had been.

Maleficent
There are very few who have lived in Darkwood long enough to remember a time when Maleficent wasn't in control of the city, legally speaking. For those select few, ancient as they may be, there would be a distinct memory of a time when Maleficent was just the largest crime lord in the entire forest, controlling the city from the shadows, behind her predecessor, mayor John King. Though anyone who remembers him would remember him as, King John.

Then at some point, for no apparent reason, there was a shift and Maleficent became the mayor of Darkwood city. No one remembers an election, there were no votes cast, and nobody recalls what became of King John. The only thing that became very clear was who really controlled Darkwood… but other than that, things stayed pretty much the same. Plus with all the extra mob money flowing in through city hall, and Maleficent's high end taste, Darkwood never looked better!

Snow White
[Floatleft][/float] Before Snow White, the role of District Attorney was mostly for show. A figurehead put in place by Maleficent to praise her "outstanding moral character" and to overlook every dirty dealing, so long as Maleficent gets her cut. Also to accept nonstop bribes…
When Snow White arrived in Darkwood, it wasn't with a gentle flurry of moral guidance, rather a powerful blizzard of unflinching justice! Backed by a gang of chaotically-moral vigilantes, Snow White made sure there were no questions about her intentions.

She ran against the, then current, DA in the first election she could, and of course Maleficent fixed the election for her own candidate…. Unfortunately for them both, Maleficent's candidate went missing the day the votes were to come in.
So, running unopposed, Snow White became the new DA, and her gang of vigilantes became her own special police force, known in Darkwood as Snow White's Seven Shields.

Magic
Obviously there will be characters who possess magic, in Darkwood (Maleficent).
In the city, and surrounding forest, magic is regulated for those licensed to perform it. Any unlicensed potion brewing, or spellcasting, is illegal. Any parties engaging in illegal magic will be prosecuted if caught. Illegal use of magic can entail punishments ranging from fines, to suspension or even removal of the users magic…

Traits or abilities magic related, or bestowed by magic via curse or charm, does not count as an illegal use of magic unless it is used specifically to harm others. So if you had the ability to breath fire it would not initially be considered illegal magic, but if you are using that ability to burn and terrorize people, then it will be considered an illegal use of magic and will be dealt with (iron mask?)

This is a law in Darkwood, it's not something I intend to be an ooc rule, just in place for the sake of breaking the law.
That said, I don't want to see characters walking around and casting spells on people all willy-nilly. If you are going to magically affect another character, it needs to be agreed upon by both parties. Likewise, no permanently altering/killing any npc's without approval from the GM first! Baddies can be beaten and bruised, but no mutilating them without my consent.

Technology
Darkwood is like any other modern city: it has electricity, the city has a public transportation system that resemble cable cars and are known as "carriages" and are owned by a private company 'Fairy Godmother Transportation' or the "FGT" for short. There is no need for private vehicles in Darkwood.
The citizens of Darkwood have access to modern style smartphones, news, internet, and social media, all contained within the Dark Forest.

Guns are extremely rare and extremely outdated. The best example of a gun in Darkwood would be like Captain Hook's flintlock pistol. Even those who came to Darkwood from the outside with a gun would find it inexplicably lost.
This will be a plot point for later on, there will be no exceptions. Typical, non magic, weapons in Darkwood include: swords, knives, and other melee weapons.

I intend this game to be freeform and open world, with events that will take place for everyone to be as involved as they want. The same goes for the election, not every character has to be directly involved with the politics of the city, but it is something that affects everyone in some way.
The campaign of Maleficent vs. Snow White, is also how we will keep track of time in the game. Our game will start on Day 1 of the campaign.

Also not all characters have to be from Darkwood originally. But, once a character is in Darkwood, they are in Darkwood for life (save one, potentially).

Important People
This is a list of characters that will exist in Darkwood.
If anyone feels inclined they can request to play any of these listed characters, and most of them are available for career changes if desired.
Note: if a character has a star next to their name it means I have plotting mind that I want them to keep, but they are available. If a name is encased in stars (*Name*) then they are not available, either for plot purposes, or they've been claimed.

Important Places
This will be a list of places that will be represented with their own thread and will be open for scenes to take place.

City Hall - Where most main plot related scenes (Maleficent vs Snow White) will take place.
The Marketplace - Where the majority of the population works. All private shops and stores are located here. This is where most of the game's day to day action will take place.
Housing District - All homes don't necessarily need to be right next to each other, but this is where sll scenes happening at "home" should take place.
Atlantica Lounge - Owned by Ursula with Ariel as the main singer. For high class people to relax, drink, and gamble.
Tower Brothel - Owned by Mother Gothel, for the pleasure of Darkwood.
The Dark Woods - A dark and supposedly haunted area of Darkwood. Many people find themselves lost for hours or days depending on how they see fit to appease the spirits. Either with an offering before they enter or amidst the trees within. The spirits here love to play tricks, and love even more to send folks home entirely sky clad.

(There will also be a social media thread where characters can send shorter messages privately, or post public news or advertisements for everyone to see.)

If this has enticed you to join our ranks please feel free to fill out the sheet below and submit it to the recruitment thread.
Also, please feel free to post any thoughts or questions you may have here. PMs are also welcomed please be certain to include all three GMs so that we might all have a hand in assisting you.

Example Sheet - Peter Pan
Player name: Blueeyedbard
Character Name: Peter Petricov | Pan
Age: Unknown, appears 17 or 18
Sexuality: Pansexual
Gender: Male
Fairytale: Peter Pan
Job/Career: Gang Leader, the Lost Boys
Faceclaim: Ben Nordberg

Personality: Peter is energetic, hot tempered, excitable and ready to jump at a moment's notice. He always said he would never grow up, and for all accounts, he succeeded.

Along with the boundless energy of youth, he also contains all the ruthlessness of youth. While he would die for any one of the other orphans, he doesn't give a second thought to cutting down someone who threatens his family.
But in the end it's all fun and games, and Peter comes up with all the best games.

Bio:
There had always been reasons orphans would disappear from the city and the surrounding woods. The lucky ones were just snatched up and eaten by monsters. The ones that were less lucky begged for change, and food on the streets, until they disappear into the alleys. Or got put to work in the basements of the businesses, or selling papers on the streets for pennies a day, until the bosses beat them just a little too hard and they weren't any good. Then there were those who were snatched up by even more evil people, and sold for things too horrible to imagine. All it took was one businessman who saw the potential for a publicly funded orphanage, to be turned into a brothel or gambling den. Then all the children were on the street.

But when Pan first arrived on the scene, and made some kind of grudge move against one of the biggest gang leaders in town, Captain Hook, they say the kid cut the old man's hand off that night, afterwards all the forests orphans began disappearing from the streets for a different reason. Not, never to be seen again.

Not much is actually known about the ruthless boy who appeared out of the forest and started making moves almost, indiscriminately, against the other head honchos of the underground. Who amassed a huge gang, made up of the majority of the forest’s street urchins, practically overnight. But there is a rumor that Pan is the only one of the Lost Boys who is not an orphan…originally.

They say, when Peter was very little he had an argument with his parents about the realities of growing up, and being an adult. A prospect young Peter was more than ready to refuse and dismiss. Not wanting their boy to grow up not knowing the realities of life, his parents fought with him, disciplined him, made sure to pound into him the way the world had to be.

One night, in his room, alone, young Peter decided that the only option he had to escape the fate his parents were ready to force on him was to run away, to a place where nobody had to grow up. But he didn't just leave, he covered his tracks by burning down his house as he left. With his parents still inside…
People who tell this story say young Peter lost his humanity that night, and became Pan. Never learning, never aging, never growing up.

Now gossip spreads the way gossip does. But be careful who you tell that story around. Because if one of the Lost Boys are nearby to hear you spreading stories about their boss, they are likely to jam the sharp end of a broken bottle into your rib cage. Or an ice pick into your thigh. Perhaps the scariest thing about the Lost Boys is that they go practically anywhere unnoticed. After all, who pays attention to the dirty orphans?

The most that most know about the young leader of the gang is that he seems unbound by gravity. He doesn't seem to age. Also, he's partial to knives, as any surviving victim will attest to.

Qualities/Faults:
+Flight - Even if most people don't know much about the Pan, one thing everyone picks up on pretty fast: the boy can fly. Nobody knows how or why. He doesn't have wings or anything. But he takes to the air like a fish to water, with no effort at all, and it's so natural that he doesn't even seem to think about it.
+Ageless: While the Lost Boys are a somewhat infrequent gang, Pan has been making scores for years. In all that time nobody can remember him aging, even a day. Had he been a criminal presence in the woods for five years? Ten? Twenty? Nobody knew for sure. He has just always been a kid.
+Positive attitude: Very little gets Peter into a sour mood, except when there aren't any more games to play. But then, Peter is the best at making up new games, like cops and robbers! Then if they catch one of the cops, they can play skin the pig!

-/+ Traveler or Lunatic: Pan is more of an infrequent player in the Darkwood underworld, showing up as a serious thorn in the sides of most of the people who have worked to make the city what it is. But every few years or so, Pan has a tendency to just disappear... When asked he is very forthcoming about making the long trip back to Neverland, when he needs to let things cool off. Nobody else has been to "Neverland" and he has no way to corroborate this story, nor does he generally feel he needs to. But if he's telling the truth, how does he get out of the Dark Woods? And if he's lying, where does he go for years at a time?

-Wild: Call it lack of discipline or just immaturity, but the Pan, and by extension the Lost Boys, are unrefined, and out of control. They have to really put their minds to it to get a job done in a clean, orderly fashion.
-Class skipper: Pan didn't go to school. So, while his street smarts makes him dangerously skilled. His book smarts leave much to be desired.
-Arrogant: Pan didn't start a gang because he was good at taking orders from other people. In fact he has a bad habit of doing exactly the opposite of what people advise him, especially adults.

Note: Two years ago, from the start of the game, Pan disappeared again from Darkwood, following Maleficent's decision to clear the streets of all the orphans in Darkwood, one way or the other...
Day 1 will be his first day back in town.

Extra: Fire red hair, pointed ears, odd tattoos scattered across his body representing battles won. The most notable is the hook tattooed on the back of his right wrist.
He wears boots that are a size too big but that's usually to hide an extra set of razors to go with the daggers strapped to his back.
Ons/Offs - Character:
Pan wants to have fun, all the time. He doesn't like to take things seriously and doesn't want to deal with drama. Worry, tears, frowns, these are the things that Peter left behind and he's not in a hurry to find them again.
Also a short attention span makes long lasting relationships difficult to form, except for with the Lost Boys.

Held Characters:

Alice - SilkenVenom
The Huntsman - Lalu - Michael B Jordan

Taken Characters: At this time we are allowing up to 5 Characters to be made by each writer.

All approved characters can be found Here in this handy list.

Would we need to use real photos for characters?
Given the nature of the types of characters in this game I would not require real face claims. Though I don't particularly care for using simple sketches or anime characters.

No offense to people who love anime art >.<

Tentatively interested.

What were you envisioning as the focus of the game?  Political intruigue?  Sex?  The characters just living their lives here?

Is Darkwood populated by humans, or are there strange and fantastical Faerie creatures here as well?

The focus of the game is two fold, the through line of the overall plot is the election potentially changing everyone's lives in Darkwood and the effect that has on the people living there. That said, if you don't want to be involved in any of that you are more than welcome to just play out the day to day life of your character in Darkwood. There are seedy bars, the Atlantica night club ran by Ursula, the Tower Brothel run by Mother Gothel... so there is plenty of sex and action to keep any magical being satisfied.

Well in the last game we had beast who was a huge man that would start turning into the beast, hair, fangs, claws, the works. Puss in boots could morph between human and cat form at will. Tink had wings and could grow and shrink from human size to pixie size. There are plenty of possibilities for fairy creatures in Darkwood. There are also plenty of generic animal people and what have you hanging out in the marketplace.

Thanks for your interest ^•^

Welcome to the madness!

So everyone knows, I added a character sheet people can feel free to start working with along with an example sheet of my Pan character.

Feel free to post sheets here for consideration or message them to me for consideration/questions.

If you would like to put a hold on a particular character just let me know, I'd be happy to put characters on hold for 2-3 days.

I don't know quite yet, I want every character concept and idea. So I won't claim anything yet.

But Prince Charming and Eric are top of the list but my first was to lean Hades, but I know that is me blurring lines since I was thinking Disney fairytales.

@BlueEyedBard
Changed my mind, I want the Big Bad Wolf, I will figure out something for him.

Maybe it will be something like "three little pigs construction. My prices will blow you away. "

I'm thinking one of the wicked witches. She'd, outwardly, run a small apple orchard on the outskirts of town but those in the know would know there's an exclusive BDSM club under the barn and the "ranch hands" can be rented for nearly anything that doesn't leave bodies for her to clean up.

Thinking Natalie Dormer for a face claim.

Will work on a full sheet at home on my computer...currently typing on my phone lol.

Player name: Caela
Character Name: Vivienne Runa Balcom
Age: None of your business
Sexuality: Bisexual Switch (will bottom for certain men; exclusively tops women but would be open to meeting one she could Switch with)
Gender: Female
Fairytale: Hansel and Gretal
Job/Career: Owns a small apple orchard just along the city limits - runs an exclusive BDSM club out of a secret basement under the barn

Personality: Vivi (to her friends) is an intense, clever, passionate, demanding, and loyal (if she thinks you deserve it) woman with a stubborn streak a mile wide. Fiercely independent, she'll protect what is hers and won't shy from violence if she deems it necessary...and if you're in her way, she'll deem it necessary.

Bio: From a hidden memoir: Did you really think I'd allow those vile children to best me? Foolish reader. I terrorized them for days and when they grew dull (as children inevitably do) I allowed them to think they had won and watched as they ran back to their home, never to darken my part of the forest again.

Over time, since the writing of her Fairytale. Vivi has branded out. She planted an orchard of lovely apple trees, hired a few choice young women, and a couple strapping lads, to work her land...and had a multi-room, extravagant, dungeon built under her barn where those same lads and lasses could be rented and used for a specified amount of time. No normal brothel was this...oh no...Vivienne catered to the darker urges that pulsed in the blood of those she deemed worthy to visit her home.

The "club" consisted of a large common room where guests could relax and mingle, taking their time to choose their partner for an evening or even just relishing the company of others lile themselves...with darker urges your average whore would shudder to meet. Each playroom was fully equipped with a variety of toys, bondage gear, and S&M equipment but some items (like the slender knives that Vi herself so enjoyed) were locked away and available by request only. There was also a large, fully stocked kitchen and bar because sometimes you simply needed (or wanted) a snack while you allows your toy to either recover, or to build their anticipation (or fear) of what may come next.
