The names of dieties and other important details are of course up for GM's approval.

oldedog

@Raven Rawne I wonder how Alystra and Ellaria will get along given that Drow count as Demons?

Fair question. In my mind, she would be out for blood of actual demons, less so of others in their realm. Although no doubt she would see them all as good only to be put to the sword. Given the circumstances, I think your character would be exempt from the rightous fury by virtue of showing character. Say, by doing something good or saving the paladin's neck. Something along the lines, enough to shake the Elf's view and allow an exception to her rule. So that Ellaria can see Alystra as "actually not evil" and thus be willing to work together.

TheBlackThrone

I like the idea that there are both a drow and an elf. Two opposing races. Your characters could also be rivals. @Raven Rawne @oldedog

It is possible, yes. Especially since one os a healer and the other an assassin. Picking locks and sneaking around, stabbing in the back. All the things a noble Elf despises.

oldedog

Damn E, I just lost my whole response I was typing. Oh well.

I definitely think rivals is totally appropriate, especially given that Ellaria's got healing magic. Alystra is likely a big fan of putting an opponent down permanently, Ellaria seeing it as cruel and unnecessary while Alystra argues that it's practical and efficient.

I like the idea of Alystra saving Ellaria's life as both a good way to win her over and for the first meeting between the two.

Something like Ellaria got into a fight, maybe in a tavern or alleyway in a town. Alystra jumped into help (not entirely sure what prompted her to do it even in her own mind) and Ellaria was too busy fighting to really pay attention to who was watching her back. The discovery once the fight was over that a Drow was her unexpected ally would surely be a shock to her.

I like the idea, since it feels organic and not forced. An elven lady in relatively expensive gear can draw attention of robbers who do't know any better. Or they do and they brought the numbers to overwhelm her.

oldedog

Either one would work, glad to hear you like the idea. If the bandits knew what they were getting into and brought help, it would make more sense as to why she didn't pay attention to Alystra at the time since even with the two of them, they would still be outnumbered.

Maybe they spotted Ellaria in town and decided to get their gang together and ambush her outside of town where they thought she would be far enough away from any kind of help. Alystra could have overheard them planning the attack in town or been on the road coming into the town herself and heard the fighting.

Raven Rawne

Or it's a bounty. She could have even declined it. A paladin is not good news if you run something really evil in town. Perhaps some necromancer etc wanted to hire the muscle so they themselves remain out of sight.

oldedog

I like that idea, it would explain how Alustra knew about the attack and why she jumped into the fight. Maybe after they handle the fight, Alustra helps Ellaria deal with the person that put the bounty on her.

Raven Rawne

It's a solid start. For some reason, Alystra decided that whatver baddie is responsible should not continue to do their thing. The Drow is an assassin, not necessarily a member of Evil Inc. so she may not have interest in furthering some tyrrany plot.

oldedog

Exactly what I was thinking. Alyatra works for all kind of people but she doesn't follow their philosophies. The individual that placed the bounty on Ellaria might not be the only person she's "retired" after she found out who they wanted assassinated.

There is, after all, a line between being a dagger for hire, and a minion of some wannabe evil Overlord. I imagine she would prefer to retain her independence.

What do "Runes" entail for skills? Also, Survival is listed twice. Was that a typo or was a different skill supposed to be in the second Survival slot?

Yes, most definitely. One week she's killing a shopkeeper so a rival's business does better, the next she killing an abusive asshole because they deserve it.

It's all about balance she would argue.

Runes meaning like reading them. Survival being listed twice is most likely an error.

Are languages a thing? Like Elven, Orcish, Dwarven etc and people being able to read only some? Also, is the pantheon universal or the races have their own gods? Cause I kinda assumed there is an Elven Goddess - which I can change.

Here's what I came up with, went a bit of a different way. I'm not...100 percent on the first image, it's the closest I could find to what I wanted, if anyone's got some suggestions of course.

Rori

Basic Information

Character Name: Aurora  Foix
Nickname:  Rori
Alias: Renegade Rori, The Pirate Princess
Age: 29
Gender: Female
Race: Beastman
Sub-Race: Feroxians
Class: Warrior
Sub-Class: Pirate
Origin: VI, on the island of Mitral

Personality

Personality: She’s whatever and whoever she wants to be. She can be a bit sarcastic, brash, annoying, and talkative.  Wild and free, she has less personal control then a lot of other martial artists she’s ever met. She knows when someone needs something from her, and enjoys pushing their buttons, no matter what level of society they might be on. Any sort of hurt or bad emotions, she tends to bury into her shell. Inherently though, there is a goodness there, she’s been known to give some of what she takes to those in dire need, or steal for friends needs.
Likes: She enjoys being on the open water, good friends, good food, and the smile she gets from the kids she’s helped. Being tired is also good as it means a good days work..
Dislikes: Being told she can’t do something, being in one place for too long, seeing someone oppressed.
O/Os: Player not currently interested in RP of sexual nature.

Backstory: Aurora was born into a life of piety and worship; her parents were devout worshippers of a the Coven of Lod  that shunned almost all contact with the outside world. They felt that it had become a world of corruption and menace, and rarely spoke of it. The various peoples tolerated it for the most part, as they grew flowers inside their compound that could be used in medicines and were willing to trade for food and such. And if it kept a minor small sect of the population out of their hair, then who cared what the chattel actually believed. Originally a sickly, frail thing that was as pious as the next member, she got better seemingly overnight, and started displaying…curiosity about what was out there. The few travelers and merchants that stopped by often would tell the curious cub about the world for a snuck out coin or an extra ration of food that she figured would go unnoticed. Eventually she herself snuck out, unable to continue living in the stifling nature of the monastery. If her parents ever worried, cared, or noticed, she hasn’t found out yet.

The monastery’s island had a port (large enough to be considered a small city, and not filled with members), and soon she found herself there, wondering what she could steal, beg or borrow and if it were edible or not. Chased by what passed for law more then once, and by other bigger kids too, she found herself stealing from the wrong person. The most honorable Zin Wo Cheng. The notorious pirate was simply someone holding a hot sandwich at the time that she wanted, so she took it. Whether he found her audacity refreshing or perhaps simply thought taking her would attract less attention, she soon found herself on his ship, Ilia’s Strumpet.

The sea’s and various nations that controlled trade, food, supplies, attempted to make sure it got where they wanted it. It was Cheng’s job to make sure that it got other, more profitable places. Rebel groups, warring gangs, businesses, even rival factions were among his clients. His ship was strictly low tech, relying on natures blessings of all shapes and sizes. He made use of modern improvements, faster lighter sails for speed, new materials for the hull, and of course better food and water conditions.

Her second life began then, raised on the sea with smugglers for a family. At first she was a nuisance, then a mascot of sorts, then a daughter to most of the men who had no families of their own. There were no shortage of fighters on the boat, and she found several of them willing to teach forms, stances, and techniques, if nothing else then to try and calm the hyperactive monster they’d adopted. Though her main instructor Skarif passed through the last door before she could teach her all that she knew, and so she became largely self taught after that. Her style morphed into something that was fluid, a constant motion.

She sailed around the world and back again with them, robbing from everyone, fending off worse scoundrels, and in general adventuring and carousing as she felt fit. There were never shortages of ships to strike at; there were plenty of close calls. She earned quite the reputation at her new father’s side, so much so that when it came time for him to retire in a quiet bit of luxury, he handed her the compass and the ship became hers. And his hat. She took his hat too.

Rori carved out her own legend, often times referred to as Renegade Rori or the Pirate Princess in wanted posters. She was especially fond of the rumours of her dealing with ancient and forbidden magiks, that she used witchcraft to stay ahead of enemies, that she controlled the seas with her thoughts, and that she was a vengeful spirit of a notorious pirate. None of them true of course, but she encouraged them as often as not. For all her marauding though, there was hardly a hungry child in port when she arrived, more then one orphanage found itself with mysterious donations of credits and food.

When she gave a lift to a group of merry adventurers she never thought she would find a calling that spoke to her more then the sea but….there it was. She ended up joining them for many years of profitable adventure and glorious times, before parting ways. Now fate has conspired to bring them back together.

Secret History
Aurora has been dead since she was approximately 8 years old. During the night she expired, but before she could fully begin to decompose a demon from a neighboring island took her body. Part of a parasitic race that claims various things as their hosts, this one upgraded from a bird to the girl. The demonic branch she belongs too has limited sensory organs, so taking a host is the only way to experience anything of worth in the world. There’s no record of these creatures having ever been discovered, and even if there was, there would have been no record even further of any taking a host larger then a dog. The blending of a sentient and the demons consequences has yet to be fully explored. She will expire if the host dies again with her inside if she’s not able to take another host (alive, dead, or otherwise) within a limited window, or return to her native waters.

Your character will definitely be invaluable to the group with her ship, and I like how you explained how she met the band in her backstory. I also like how you included the secret backstory that I would have reminded everyone to include in their stories since they're approved separately. Good character choice.  :-)

Gotta figure out what yo put in said secret backstory in the first place. My gal is a bit of an open book.

Also, yeah, I hear you oldedog. Same with MC's religion amd medicine. Although it would be nice to reap racial bonuses like Superior Senses ("Legolas, what do your Elf eyes see?") And either Fey Blood (unable to be charmed or put to sleep with magic) or even Reverie. Got the Drow it's most likely Darkvision amd maybe poison resistance.
