Out of curiosity can you expand on the sort of... individual power level you see people possessing? Like for the most part we're just normal humans, yeah, with slight augmentations, not, say, the Winter Soldier?

TheGlyphstone

That'd be good to know, yeah, so I don't overshoot the expected boundaries here.

Ryven

Given the amount of tech available, I'm throwing around the idea of a prisoner who used to be the CEO of a high profile robotics/cybernetics corp, but in a greedy play for money, the company allowed the sale of faulty robotics and cybernetics resulting in not just defective and unreliable hardware but also many deaths due to their malfunction.  The whole thing was, of course, played down, but the resulting court case was decided against the corporation.  The CEO went down with criminal charges.  As for his skills, I see him as not just a face or head of the company but he was actually one of the talented robotics designers/technicians who actually knows how to build and program them but then fell victim to corporate power and money.  Would welcome any kind of connections with him since I feel like he might need help surviving.

Juggtacular

Heya Peachy. This seems super interesting and I'd more than likely be wanting to make one of the security detail. Possibly Captain/Commander, whatever that rank is for this game. I'm parroting Glyph and Xurtan though wondering if these are all going to be normal folks? Genetically enhanced? Cybernetically enhanced? A mix of both?

Good question! I've been thinking about that quite a bit. So, one thing I'll say is that I don't want any non-enhanced humans to feel out of place or inferior; I don't want people to feel like they have to give their characters lots of augmentations/implants/genetic enhancements/etc. That's one thing to keep in mind. Basically, though, I'm imagining that, at their best, these enhancements can push average people to the upper limits of natural human capabilities but not into the superhuman realm.

Does that clear it up? I can try to expand on it. I wanted to go into more detail about everything yesterday, but I was operating on 2 hours of sleep and eventually had to just give up for the night. :P

I think I answered most of this question above. But, just to clarify, no one is required to have any enhancements. Fully optional. With cybernetics, I'd like to keep it even more toned down than with genetic enhancements--I don't want full-on cyborgs running around.

Again, just keep in mind that not everyone will have enhancements, and I don't want those characters feeling wildly out of place or inferior.

HIGHLY INTERESTED!
This seems like it would be fun.

Thank you! Would love to have you join! :D

Edit: Forgot to mention a couple things. The security are technically correctional officers, so their ranks would reflect that. Warden at the top. Someone's definitely welcome to play that character, keeping in mind that there will be no monopoly of power once on the surface.

Also, since this is a maximum/super max type prison, white collar crimes aren't going to get anyone sent here. I do think your idea would work, Ryven, because you mentioned that the faulty hardware caused deaths. But it'd might be even better to add in something on top of that, just to make it a little more definite that he'd be sent to this kind of prison and not some white-collar resort.

GRIMM HALLOWAY
“The Butcher of Buusan”

OOC Information:
Played By: TheGlyphstone
Faceclaim: Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson
Player O/Os:

Character Information:
Character Name: Grimm Halloway, aka. ‘The Butcher of Buusan’
Role:Prisoner
Sentence: Death (War Crimes)
Age: 36
Personality: Calm and phlegmatic
Sexual role: Uncertain
Favourite Kinks: Strong, confident women
Limits: Non-con or dub-con

Character History:

Life in a megacity’s slums is a daily battle for survival. The subsistence dole handed out to the poor is barely enough to live, and all too often ends up in the hands of gangs who distribute the food as they want. Grimm grew up in that hostile urban jungle - he grew fast and big, the size of smaller men before he hit puberty, and inevitably ended up as an enforcer in the ranks of his sector’s strongest gang. It bought him and his family food and security, until a gang war broke out against rivals in a neighboring sector and brought the crushing hammer of the peacekeepers down on everyone. Facing a choice between conscription and decades in a penal mining colony, Grimm chose the first.

In another lifetime, he might have served without incident and eventually been allowed to de-enlist. But there is one inevitable fact throughout history, and that is when military men are given access to cutting-edge science, they seek ways to make it useful in war. No matter how many times projects to create ‘super soldiers’ fail disastrously, the next generation of generals will want to try again. Already all and strong, Grimm was ‘volunteered’ to participate in the latest set of experiments to this end. Radical genetic alterations rebuilt his bones and muscles for strength, with improved nerves heightening his reflexes. On top of this retroviral reconstruction, the scientists implanted a set of artificial glands with a potent synthetic adrenaline analogue to boost aggression and inhibit pain response. The phenomenal strain all of this would put on his vital organs promised to cut his lifespan by a third if not half, but this was deemed acceptable by his superiors.

Along with hypnotic triggers to control the activation and de-escalation of his aggression inducers, Grimm was indoctrinated with an absolute and unwavering faith in the ideals of the military spirit and the code of conduct all soldiers swore to uphold. Presented as an embodiment of the ‘perfect soldier’, he became as much of a propaganda icon as he did a living weapon, until the day he was deployed to assist in suppressing an uprising by miners on strike against their poor working conditions. Their official mission was to end the rebellion cleanly and with minimal casualties - unofficially the troops were given free reign on brutality to terrify the surviving miners against further dissent. Unaware of this implicit reality, Grimm was clearing a building when he walked right into a group of soldiers happily engaging in some quasi-sanctioned rape and torture. Faced with such a total betrayal of the ideals literally programmed into his psyche, something in him broke. The glands meant to feed him a steady drip of combat drugs dumped wide open and flooded his body, sending him into a state of utter berserk fury that started with slaughtering the entire squad in front of him and ended with every other soldier and adult male in a three-block radius dead, including two more squads sent in specifically to restrain his rampage.Only when the drugs ran out did he collapse, leaving the military with a PR disaster of unprecedented levels. They took advantage of every witness being conveniently dead and pinned all of the carnage on Grimm alone, with several of the flag officers who had backed his creation retiring in disgrace. Grimm himself was publicly and swiftly court-martialed for hundreds of act of rape, torture, murder, and other crimes, sentenced to death upon arrival.

Relevant skills:

Trained and indoctrinated to be a paragon of soldiers, and further reinforced by years of service before and after being subject to experimental treatments, Grimm has everything you’d expect from such a person. Unfortunately, he has little else, and his social skills are stunted in an equally appropriate measure.

Character motivation:

Find a purpose. The crash of the prison ship spared him from execution, but the man who was once branded a heroic champion before being condemned as a monster is a broken shell, lost and confused after having the core of his identity stripped away.

Subconscious Motivation: Find redemption for his crimes by dying a hero in some fashion.

Extras:
Likes: Card games, good food, well-fitting clothes
Dislikes: Loud noises, military uniforms, unprovoked violence
Connections: None
Cybernetic Implants/Genetic Enhancements:
-Extensive modifications to his body increasing strength, durability, endurance, and reflexes.
-Synthetic adrenaline pumps that can drive him into a series of escalating rage states, activated by subliminal trigger commands or involuntary shock and stress.

I figure whoever's in charge of prisoner security would hold his 'leash' by knowing the codes.

PeachyPie

I made some slight adjustments to the character sheet for anyone who's started on or submitted theirs. It's not much - I just added a tag for sexual orientation and put the other sexual info down at the bottom.

Juggtacular

Working on my sheet now. And claiming Idris Elba because yeah.

What a nice concept. I'd be happy to be his friend. They share a lot of background, Grimm and Anders. Had there been anythings Grimm wanted aboard ship while waiting for his sentence? Candy from home? Games. Anything? I think Anders would recognize a frame job when he saw it and feel bad for the big softie.

Player O/Os: A mess

Character Information:
The Color Code: As this characters displays multiple personalities, the color code used here will be as follows; text in black applies to all three personalities, Blue applies to Sasha, White applies to Ash, and Indigo applies to Sandra.
Character Name: Sasha/Ash/Sandra Gwyn Pelendan
Role: Prisoner
Age: 75, physically 25
Personalityies: Seductive and self-assured / Impulsive and psychopathic / Cold and calculating
Sexual orientations: Gynesexual/Pansexual/Gynesexual

Character History:

Sasha was born of ambiguous gender. Despite the progress forward of society, morals, and technology, there were some parents less than accepting of a "freak" child. Fortune made it so those were the type she ended up with. As a result, she was abandoned and signed away into the system in infancy, and was adopted by - to not say "sold to" - the Biograv corporation. The ambiguous girl - and many other orphans, she'd later find - were subjected to batteries of experiments to try and push humans beyond their natural limits. Sasha, being particularly resilient and a unique specimen due to her uncommon gender arrangement, was the focus of a particularly cruel scientist among the amoral lot. This caused her to develop peripheral neuropathy, early onset graying, and her psyche ultimately came to split three ways; giving birth to her "sisters" - or split personalities - Sandra, and Ash. This resulted in further modifications being performed upon her which only exacerbated the fragility of her psyche.

While the other surviving children all developed some form of trauma - understandable given the fact that they were experimented upon daily if not hourly and subjected to enough drugs and invasive procedures to kill seasoned undercover agents trained in resistance to torture - Sasha was the one to suffer the most of it, to the point where she was eventually seen as a sort of martyr even among the other kids... So when Ash decided they were getting out? There wasn't much any could do to stop the wave of biologically optimized teenagers to explode outward from the facility.

The carnage that ensued lasted long enough to become international news until Sasha was eventually captured, and condemned to carry out multiple life sentences with the benefits of modern medicine ensuring her incarceration would be prolonged indefinitely, due to her warpath of graphic murders and sexual assaults carried over the quasi-totality of the now defunct Biograv's workforce, from the head scientists to the janitorial staff, and their families. The surviving officer who apprehended her - the rest of the unit reportedly succumbing to sustained injuries or suicide resulting from suffered psychological trauma - later stated in an interview that he had never been so afraid for his life as when he saw her smile.

Relevant skills:

Raised to be a sort of next step in the evolution of humanity, and dedicating her existence to the mutilation, violation, and murder of her detainers, Sasha possesses encyclopedic knowledge of psychology, arithmetic, chemistry, robotics, and anatomy, an innate talent for acting, ventriloquism, parkour, and martial arts, expertise in investigation, tracking, and observation, and an instinctual ease at picking up non-verbal queues which could be misinterpreted as mind-reading. Though resulting from trauma rather than an earned skill, she also possesses a psychological inability to feel pain.

Character motivation:

Freedom from the shackles imposed upon her by the prison and society / To turn this planet into her playground of depraved sex and ultraviolence / To assure herself a position of power and comfort among the survivors

Limits: N/A [Trying to spread my wings with this character, please bear with me when it comes to kinks I am inexperienced in].

Cybernetic Implants/Genetic Enhancements: - Retractable Tungsten/Titanium alloy claws, which can take the place of her regular nails.
- Color shifting eyes, implanted during her stay with Biograv and connected to her frontal lobe, shifting the color of her eyes through hormonal stimuli to match the personality currently in control.

Cool concept though I don't expect that Anders and YC will get along well planetside. Still, while on the prison ship, they might have crossed paths if Sasha needed anything from outside.

Also, I think you meant retractable claws, not prehensile. Unless they are long and whip-like? Would she be wearing restraints on them at the beginning of play then? Might make for a fun character development point as she has to find a way to get the restraints removed.

You're right... prehensile might be a little overpowered. Fixed. I imagine that it would depend from personality to personality whether he got along with her. I think he might get along with the standard Sasha, but not so much with Ash or Sandra, though the latter definitely asked at least once to score her opiates.

Opiates were available, sure, and he'd be likely to get her a bit when she asked if only to keep her calm. I think Anders intensely dislikes Ash. He dislikes anyone who enjoys harming others. But Sasha and Sandra are ok by him. Haha. He's a little weather worn and hard from life, but Anders is a good guy. A fine line I am trying to walk with the character. I might need to consider that he saved or located some of his stashed after the crash. Haha.

Honestly I feel like if Ash isn't intensely disliked by everyone at least in-character then I'm not playing her correctly. Basically the three sides of her personality borrow inspiration from;

1. Sasha - Kurera from Kengan Asura meets Harley Queen.
2. Ash - Jinx from Arcane meets Saeko Busujima from Highschool of the Dead meets Joker ... the Batman one, not the Persona one.
3. Sandra - Imagine the caterpillar from Alice in Wonderland, crossed with the Riddler.

Damn. I love this idea. The colour-shifting eyes to match her personality is a really nice touch, too.

Also, when you guys have a completed CS, can you PM a copy to me? Just so I have them all in one place and can be sure you're completely finished. I know some people like to post them here, then edit, which is definitely fine. Just send the final copy to me for approval. Thanks.

Thank you!
I figured when the scientists realized her personality had fragmented - especially with Ash's... tendencies... - they thought it wise to give themselves a visual queue for when she's dangerous.

Xavier Lucas

OOC Information:
Played By:Juggtacular
Faceclaim: Idris Elba
Player O/Os: Link

Character Information:
Character Name: Xavier[Zay-vee-yur] Lucas
Role: Security[Guard Captain]
Age: 65
Personality: A consummate professional with a morbid sense of humor. Silver-tongued charmer and scoundrel rolled into one. He has earned the respect he expects from others, but doesn't lord his authority if he doesn't have to. He has a heart, but will do what is necessary if worst comes to worst.
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual

Character History:

Xavier was born in a MegaCity called "New Antioch" into a relatively wealthy family as his father was a powerful political figure, while his mother came from old money. The young man looked down on the smog-covered streets from an ivory tower with a silver spoon in his mouth, but while he wanted more, he wanted it in a different way. As he grew up, he grew tired of the posh lifestyle he lived. He was tired of the best foods, the best entertainment, the best everything. He wanted to actually go out there and see what it was like to live! Eventually, he goth is chance, but again, not in the way you'd think.

A powerful political figure would always have powerful enemies, and Xavier's father was very powerful. After refusing to play ball with some venture capitalists and CEOs, Corvo Lucas and his wife Zalia were kidnapped en route to their home. It was Xavier who received the ransom request which was essentially that if he wanted his parents returned safely, he would work for them. He accepted the deal, and he saw his parents for all of five minutes before he was taken into parts unknown. The next few years were spent whipping him into shape with intense, excruciating training, and once his body and mind were ready, he was subjected to the very same cybernetic and genetic enhancement procedures that his father wouldn't sign off on.

He was a success across the board and immediately forced into active duty in a clandestine mercenary corps called "Black Gate" so the men who'd taken him could see their investments in action. From active warzones to corporate espionage, underworld dealing and space piracy, guerilla warfare, and urban terrorism. Xavier did it all. There are incidents, rebellions, and mysterious happenings all across the galaxy that he is the direct cause of, though you could never prove it. For years he made Black Gate and the shadowy cabal of elites who'd turned him into...whatever he was, a shit ton of money. And while his life was nothing if not exciting, he had become nothing more than a pawn with the illusion of freedom in the form of drugs, booze, fancy clothes, and women. Which was nothing he couldn't have had before. Xavier wanted out, so he hatched a plan in secret. He had made plenty of friends across the galaxy during his time as a soldier of fortune, and many of those friends owed him favors. He called in a big one and after sabotaging his transport ship, an unsuspected pirate attack took them off guard.

A shot from the frigate exposed the portion of the ship Xavier just so happened to be into space, and he was sucked into the void before the blast shields could activate, sealing his fate. That was what his crewmates told the higher-ups, as it was the only logical conclusion. After all, there was no way he would've survived deep space only to be rescued just in time by the very same pirates that attacked his ship, right? Over the next several years, Xavier, going by a number of aliases, traveled the stars, assassinating the men who'd experimented on him, not only for revenge but to ensure his family's continued safety. Ironically it was the skills and enhancements they'd given him that he used to erase them from existence.

Once the last one was dead, he went home for the first time in two decades, but while his parents and siblings were happy to see him, he'd changed. He had never been one for high society, but now he didn't fit into society at all. After spending some time with his loved ones, he went back out into the galaxy, somehow finding himself working on a prison ship. it made sense they used a bad man like him to keep other bad men in check. Over time he worked his way up the ranks, getting promoted to Guard Captain, letting him enjoy the authority of command, while only dealing with unruly death row inmates and tons of paperwork as a downside. He runs a tight ship but has been on the wrong side of the law long enough to know when to let things slide, and when to look the other way.

Relevant skills:

No expense was spared when Xavier received his military training. Marksmanship, Tactics, Survival Skills, Melee Combat, Unconventional Warfare, Espionage, Psi-Ops, you name it, it was drilled into his head. He was taught by the best of the best with his family's lives as motivation to succeed. Beyond his skills, he underwent extensive genetic and cybernetic modifications to the tune of millions, all to make him into a bleeding-edge game changer for the Corpo Wars and Private Sector. His physical capabilities have been pushed to the limits of human potential, and the cybernetic implants were specifically designed to complement them and make him into the ultimate Shadow Operative.

Character motivation:

Xavier wants to survive on this god-forsaken jungle paradise, establish order, and eventually find a way home to his family.

Anders - Anders and Xavier had an arrangement in place that worked well due to their shared sordid past. He turned a blind eye to his smuggling, even helping him when needed and keeping other guards or higher-ups off his back, in exchange for a cut of the profits and discounts. Xavier doesn't pry too deeply into Anders's business, only keeping enough information to cover both their asses in case something goes wrong or he needs to run interference. Anything else Anders does, he doesn't need or care to know.

Ian - Xavier watched the trial and realized that while Ian was definitely guilty, more than little of the blame was shifted away from his peers and onto him. Always sympathetic to people like himself who are victims of corpo greed, he kept an eye out for him, knowing SuperMax wasn't what he was made for.

Helena - Xavier has a shared love of literature with Helena so they bonded fairly quickly since he spent so much time in the library and checking out books. They have also worked closely together to create some shipwide advancements and programs. The self-defense courses she convinced him to teach for prison staff and the first aid certification courses and layout to make it easier for more varied staff to be able to help each other in cases of emergency, just to name a few.

Gia - During his extensive travels across the galaxy and his constant underworld dealings, he and Gia worked together enough for him to know her fairly well when she showed up on the ship. They have a good working relationship, are close friends, and he treats her well on the ship.

Shannon - Having flown with some of the best pilots in the galaxy, Xavier can see that Shannon is definitely up there and she has highly impressed him with her skills. He likes to give her pointers on the ins and outs of other aspects of their job when he can. He has also been willing to make use of her beauty and talents when it comes to dealing with the inmates, and compensates her for her help. Her immense, untapped potential has sparked motivation within him he thought he lost long ago, and he has taken her under his wing so to speak, training her up to be the most badass version of herself she can be.

Cybernetic Implants/Genetic Enhancements:
Enhanced Physical Capabilities - His musculature and bone density have been altered for faster movement, greater strength, reflexes, stamina, etc... He is still within the realm of human capability and potential, but noticeably moreso than normal people.
Titanium-Alloy Bone Coating - Liquid Titanium was injected into his bones and hardened over time, coating them in a thin, highly protective layer of metal. This helps him withstand the force his muscles can exert without breaking his own bones. It also makes his bones much harder to break, and he hits like a sledgehammer.
Sub-Dermal Shielding - Reactive nanogel was inserted just under the surface of the skin and expands during harsh impacts to reduce the trauma to his soft tissues and protect his organs.
Cybernetic Eyes - His eyes have been implanted with several types of sensors wired directly into his optic nerve and brain. This allows him to see in different vision modes like thermal vision, night vision, and telescopic vision. His eyes glow golden when he activates them.

Geez, why so many cybered out super soldiers/killing machines?

It's pushing me to have Anders go in a more rogue-like route than I was already planning. I do hope for a better mix. Someone was toying with the idea of cybernetics expert which seems very needed right about now.

As for the connection to Xavier, if he is the Captain of the guard, he'd probably be cut in yeah. If he gets too greedy, I'll just rat him out to Grimm or shove him in Sasha's cage and watch the sparks fly. Haha.

Juggtacular

For me at least, I like the physical characters. My go-to are strong/fast/etc... types.  And I figured at least a few of the security would need to be capable of physically handling themselves around enhanced prisoners like Grimm and Sasha.

Lol, he never digs too deep into other people's pockets. It's bad form and bad business. And depending on who she is at the moment, sparks might mean something different than what you think it means.  >:)

Haha, I was thinking the same thing. Feels sort of the opposite of 'minor cybernetics that aren't much stronger than people without', and well beyond 'normal human capability'. I think this game is shaping up to be a little more high powered than I was looking for, so will be withdrawing interest. Wishing everyone all the luck!

A couple of these characters do need to be toned down a bit. I'm happy with all the concepts, just a bit too overpowered in some cases. It might end up being simpler to just do away with enhancements. Keep everyone a level playing field. Even if I were to do that, though, I think keeping cybernetic stuff is fine, as long as its minor like Sasha.

Also, please make sure to send me the final copy of your CS, so that I can easily review and ask for tweaks where necessary.

I was deliberately vague in how much Grimm's mods improved him. There's no small amount of Captain America in his conceptual DNA (plus some RoboCop and a little Bane), so if 'peak human' is the expected cap on ability, no need to change anything.

I made him an emotional wreck to counterbalance his physical prowess as well, but from a worldbuilding angle, I think the proliferation of augmented criminals submitted is logical. People with augmented physical ability are inevitably going to gravitate into roles where that ability helps them, and most of those jobs are either criminal or military in nature. And the population of a supermax prison is naturally going to be the worst and most dangerous of that demographic.

I think I'm just going to need to come up with a way for people to make it a bit more clear how powerful their characters are. Because, to me, it honestly doesn't make sense to have zero genetic enhancements in a world almost 300 years into the future. My issue is just that I didn't want this stuff to become a major focus of the game, and I definitely don't want anyone to feel like they must give their characters enhancements or be wildly underpowered.

I don't think I'll require any major changes. That said, someone with Captain America level capabilities is quite a bit beyond what I was going for. When I said "upper range of natural human abilities," I was thinking more like professional athletes on a physical level, 140-160 IQ on an intellectual level. Stuff like that.
