With so much interest in the Dúnedain race, I'm thinking of changing to elf or skin changer

I'll be doing an Elf, from the House of Faenor. Wouldn't be opposed to another Elf to banter with! Or a skin changer could work too.

I am reading the Silmarillion right now (absolutely mind-expanding stunning reading there) and would at least like to follow this game from afar (lurker/reader).
If anything I would be some comfort-loving-arm-chair-adventurer hobbit with a taste for the very good life (so much like real-life as it were). More interested in a tankard of mead and a good pipeful of smoke-weed than going off into the mouth of doom to burn a shiny piece of accessory-jewelry.
Not because of fear, it just would not be comfortable.
Now pass him another scone will you?

   Wait, do I have character?

I think you just might have a character idea.

Character: Iago Kilderkin
Player: Valdus

Role:
Skills/Special abilities:

  • Expert Brewer
  • Jewelry and Precious metals appraiser
  • A taste for gold and silver. Strangely Iago gets a bloody, coppery taste in his mouth when there is precious metals about.
  • Marvelous Cook

Personality:

  • Spoiled and generally lazy. One of the few things that can get Iago off his bum is to brew another Kilderkin for the clan or cook a feast usually for guests- or to be honest, himself
  • In a life of leisure, Iago has picked up quite a few tales that find themselves told at his table.
  • Having an insatiable taste for gold and silver he at sometimes finds shiny things in his many pockets

History:

  • The Kilderkin name, only its mention can make any hobbit or dwarf drool with the coming of the golden mead and crimson ale. Iago is one of many sires of the clan, each perhaps lazier than the next. Except for making a good barrel and just the right tap.
  • From Overhill in Hobbiton, with a mighty fine view
  • Inspired by a brilliant cloak found after his guests have left, Iago has decided to get off his chair and share in a bit of adventure. But not too much work or destiny or prophecy now. Just enough to get the heart going a bit- but only a bit.

Relationships/Connections:

  • The Kilderkins have heard of those adventurous Baggins over on the other side of Hobbiton. They throw a good fete especially when tall fireworks make a surprise appearance.
  • Open to suggestion and invitation
  • On many an occasion Iago has been "kidnapped" by miners in search of a difficult vein. In his own words "Mithril tastes like rotten onions!"

I hope Iago is up to snuff. Per the character sheet, I am up for bonds with other characters and the such. There's may be a keg in it for his friends.

I had a pc from an old game here that fell apart before I really got to play him:

Character: Arohir
Player: WaitingCynicism

Role: Knight and Minstrel (Gondorian)
Skills/Special abilities:

  • Horsemanship
  • Hunting and Falconry
  • Spear and Sword
  • Dancing and Minstrelsy

Personality:

  • Arohir is an upbeat optimist, and very much enjoys singing and playing music whenever he is off-duty. He is highly protective of those around him.

History:

  • Arohir was born in Pinnath Gelin, the eldest of 5 sons (and the elder to his twin brother). His father Tologon, the lord of Pinnath Galen and a former Swan Knight, had maintained close relations with Rohan, and in particular, a village in the Westfold known as Raven’s Gate, ruled by a family friend, Cynewulf, who had a son named Fréawulf. Both Fréawulf and Arohir grew to be close friends as boys, and when Arohir came of age to squire, Tologon sent him to Cynewulf as both an esquire and an emissary, to gain political experience outside of the time he had spent with his father.

  • It was during this time that Arohir grew to enjoy playing music, both singing songs and playing instruments - in particular, the lute and the harp. It was also during this time that he and Fréawulf became more than friends,  developing a close relationship as brothers-in-arms and lovers.

  • Newly knighted and newlywed, Arohir now wants to preserve what alliances with Rohan he can - and possibly gain alliances with other peoples as well, should the Shadow come back. After all, if Ecthelion had proposed the Oath of Eorl in the first place, why should that fade simply because of the past?

Relationships/Connections:

  • His husband Freawulf, various other Rohirrim

Layne Spooks

Hi folks, is this game still going/looking for players?

Stella

This hasn't actually started yet...! I'm not sure the momentum is here.

Primarch

Hey! Yeah this one never kicked off, that's on me. Got distracted with RL and lost track of how long it had been since people started posting up characters.

Layne Spooks

Ah, thats unfortunate, but it happens. Please do let me know if you ever try starting it up again. :)

Character: Nauriel (Daughter of Fire)
Player: Primarch

Role: Princess of the Noldor
Skills/Special abilities:

  • Last of the House of Fëanor: - Nauriel is the granddaughter of Fëanor by her father Maedros. Fëanor was said to be the greatest of the Noldor and his descendants achieved greatness in their own ways. Nauriel is skilled in matters of combat, common to her family. Following the death of her grandfather and the maiming of her father she was said to be the greatest in skill-at-arms, and the ages have only made her more powerful. She is a veteran of the Wars of Beleriand, the War of the Wrath & War of the Last Alliance.
  • Elven Crafts: –  Another skill common to her family, which boasts such famous craftsmen as Fëanor himself and later Celebrimbor. While Nauriel never reached the skill of those two, she is nonetheless tremendously talented at her craft. She has been known to craft very fine jewels. She also crafted her personal weapon, the longsword Raugdagnir (Demon Bane) which, like other weapons crafted by the great Elven masters of old, glows in the presence of Orcs and other evils.
  • Loremaster: - Nauriel is one of the 'Lambengolmor,' the Loremasters of the Elves. Across her long life she has achieved great wisdom, with a skill in linguistics and history (admittedly, she was present for a great deal of Middle-Earth's history).

Personality:

  • Kind: - Nauriel has long since learned that the greatest quality in the mighty, is kindness
  • Wise: - The ancient Elf possesses the wisdom of the ages, and is very respected for it by those who know of her.
  • Fierce: - For all her wisdom & kindness, Nauriel is a born warrior and venerated champion of the House of Fëanor.

History:

  • Nauriel was born in Valinor where she was a pupil of Aulë and Tulkas (though given the nature of Tulkas, it might be better to say she had befriended him).
  • She would remain in Valinor until Margoth murdered Finwë and stole the Silmarils, at which point her father and uncles swore the Oath of Fëanor. This led to her arrival in Middle-Earth and her involvement in the very many battles of the First age, including ‘the War of Wrath.’
  • By the Second Age she spent most of her time in Eregion and, like Celebrimbor & Galadriel distrusted ‘the Lord of Gifts’ Annatar, who later revealed himself to be Sauron. In time she fought in the War of the Elves and Sauron, and later the War of the Last Alliance.
  • For many centuries the Third Age allowed peace and Nauriel settled in Imladris. For a time she focused on the writing of a book, recounting her experiences across the First and Second Age, chiefly dealing with the conflicts against Morgoth and Sauron. After many years of solitude she would travel, witnessing the growing realms of Men where, as one of the great Elven Loremasters her council was offered when it would be heeded. Otherwise most of her time was spent in Rivendell where she played the role of advisor, diplomat and crafter. Though she was ever watchful for the return of Sauron.

Layne Spooks

#35
Character Sheet Template:
Character: Merilon
Player: Layne Spooks

Role: Mirkwood Elf (archer)
Skills/Special abilities:

  • Master Archer: From a young age, Merilon was trained to use a long bow. Over his long life, he grew to master the skill, becoming one of the Greenwood’s elite archers.
  • Skilled Swordsman: From a young age, Merilon was trained in the use of swords. While he never grew as skilled with swords as he did with his bow, he is still amongst the Greenwood’s most skilled warriors.
  • Skilled With Daggers: From a young age, Merilon was trained in the use of daggers. While he never grew as skilled with daggers as he did with his bow, he is still amongst the Greenwood’s most skilled warriors. If given the choice between a sword and a pair of daggers, Merilon would choose the daggers.

Personality:

  • Brave; Merilon fears little. He is a brave and hardened warrior who won’t back down from a foe.
  • Selfless; Merilon values others above himself. For the happiness and safety of his people, there is nothing he wouldn’t sacrifice.
  • Reserved; Though it has been decades since his heartbreak, the wounds of it still cut deep. Merilon is slow to let others in, particularly if their intentions are romantic in nature.

History:

  • Merilon was born in the Greenwood to a family of warriors. From a young age, he was raised to take up the same position his father held, keeping the spiders from invading more of the wood and endangering elven lives. He had always been told as a child that he had been named after roses because while they were beautiful, they had sharp thorns capable of protecting that beauty.
  • For many years, Merilon took to his training and his role as protector like a fish to water. He was as talented as he was dedicated, and soon enough, Merilon made slaying spiders look like an easy task. He quickly rose through the ranks to become one of the most skilled archers the Greenwood had to offer. Merilon took great pride in his skill and his position as a protector, valuing these traits, and what they could provide for his people above all else, including his own happiness.
  • Despite his lack of focus on his own happiness, however, Merilon found himself with a lover whom he adored. Ivoron was one of the Greenwood’s finest smiths, and when Merilon needed his weapons repaired, or new arrows made, he always went to him. They fell in love quickly, and for the first time in his life, Merilon valued something aside from his duty to his people. He valued his lover and his own happiness.
  • This wouldn’t last, however. Not long before they were set to be wed, Merilon was called to fight back a cluster of spiders that were encroaching on the Greenwood. He took up the call without hesitation, as always eager to defend his people and their home. When Merilon and his fellow warriors arrived, however, there were many more spiders than their scouts had thought and the group was unprepared. Several lives were lost, and Merilon himself had been injured, barely able to limp back to safety before collapsing.
  • Fortunately, he had been found quickly enough that he would survive, and his wounds could be treated. Unfortunately, though, Merilon’s wounds had been severe, and though they would heal, they would never fully recover. His hip would always cause him pain if he strained too much, or the weather was too cold and damp. Although he was greatly upset by this revelation that he would never be able to be the warrior he once was, Merilon was at least comforted by the presence of his soon-to-be husband, Ivoron. Or at least, that’s what he had thought. While he had been recovering, there had been an accident in Ivoron's forge, and the other elf hadn't survived. Devastated, Merilon turned back to his previous ways, valuing his skills as a warrior and his ability to protect his people above all else.

Armphid

Character Sheet Template:
Character: Primrose "Prim" Baggins
Player: Armphid

Role: Ring Bearer
Skills/Special abilities:

  • Educated - As heir and protégée of the famous Bilbo Baggins, Prim has been well educated.  She familiar with Sindarin and Quenya both in writing and speech, knows dwarven letters if not the spoken language, and many of the old stories and songs.  She has also been drilled in riddles by her older cousin her whole life.  "Never know when you might need to riddle your way out of something, my girl," he'd say.
  • Tomboy - Hardly a "proper lady" according to many of the worthies of the Shire, Prim spent more time studying and tromping about the Shire than learning traditionally feminine pursuits.  This gives her a physical hardiness and skills that might not be expected of a hobbit woman.  She's also quite good at throwing stones and knows how to shoot a bow and hunt, a little at least.
  • Heart - Prim has a purity of heart and will about her; she's far stronger in spirit than her appearance and stature would suggest.  When the chips are down, she shines and she is remarkably resistant to dark things and creeping fears.  Though she has not had much occasion to show this side of her yet, it will be of great value in the dark days ahead.

Personality:

  • Open & Curious - Hobbits tend to be rather close minded, suspecting strangers even when it comes to them being hobbits from other towns or social classes but not Prim.  She'll chat with laborers and listen to them with just as much attention and seriousness as the wealthy and well to do.  This has endeared her to many of the commonfolk in Hobbiton, Bywater, and much of the Shire.  She's met dwarves who came to visit Bilbo and the wizard Gandalf many times.  Prim would love to meet elves, especially after reading so much of history and their beautiful languages.  She's open to new experiences as well as new people and has a curiosity that goes beyond the usual gossipy nosiness of hobbits into genuine curiosity and desire to learn.
  • Willful - Prim intends to live her life as she will and bother what's thought of her, for the most part.  She is hard to budge from her goals once she's set them and applies herself earnestly to the tasks she takes on.  This can also lead to her pushing back against those in authority (or who see themselves as having authority) and means some of the older hobbits of the higher classes think of her as being "a bit too uppity."
  • Generous - Learning from Bilbo, Prim is generous with what she has.  She knows she's very well off and firmly believes in sharing what good she has.  While she learned how to handle money and the like from Bilbo, she views it much the same as he did, a necessary evil best used to make lives better.  Her own as well as those of others.  She is also generous with her time as well and is known to be willing to lend a hand to those who ask.  This generosity of spirit extends to other aspects of her personality as well and she is usually willing to give people the benefit of the doubt.

History:

  • Only child of Drogo Baggins and Primula Brandybuck, Primrose spent much of her early childhood in Buckland, primarily Brandy Hall and the surrounding country side.  She was orphaned when her parents died in a boating accident, though there remain rumors that it was actually a murder gone wrong attempted by one of her parents that ended with both dying.  Such rumors infuriate her, for obvious reasons.  When she was twelve, her much older cousin Bilbo Baggins adopted her and took her to Hobbiton to live in Bag End.  While there were also rumors that Bilbo was grooming her to be a bride when she came of age, he was as a father to her and made her his heir.
  • Prim learned much from Bilbo, voraciously studying his books and stories, and going on long walks and rambles with him.  Once when a group of dwarves came and Bilbo went with them on some adventure, she journeyed with them as far as the borders of the Shire.  She also was very pleased to meet Bilbo's old friend and comrade Balin when he came on a visit to the Shire with news of the Lonely Mountain and Dale.  Even when not with Bilbo, she was either studying or traveling and wandering around the Shire.  She took her role as Bilbo's heir seriously and studied also how best to handle his wealth, estate, and land so that she could be a good steward of its' prosperity when the time came.
  • In time, Bilbo trusted her with the truth of his ring and all of his other secrets.  As far as she knows, she alone has read in his book and has the full truth of the riddle game and all the other times Bilbo used the ring.  She suspects Gandalf knows but has never had the gumption to ask him about it.  Now that Bilbo has gone at that spectacular mutual birthday party, she now owns all that Bilbo once did, including the ring.  She has followed Gandalf's advice and not used the thing.  Given her fortune, she has had a number of suitors over her years but none that became anything serious.  Many of the gossips of the Shire wag their tongues that she has set herself to be a spinster as Bilbo was a determined bachelor.  That isn't true, but she just hasn't felt the right connection with anyone yet.  Her most determined suitor was and continues to be Lotho Sackesville-Baggins, whom she utterly despises.

Primarch

Hello!

IC has started and we're still recruiting.
For those interested, we're chiefly hoping to add humans, Dwarves, Hobbits and a Wizard to our roster. Though we kindly ask no more Elves at this time.

Lux12

I could be the wizard, though I hope you're not expecting Gandalf exactly...Also, I do have to ask, are we treating the Valar as more akin to arch angels in the way Tolkien later wrote of them or as Deities in the way some earlier, incomplete works do?

Armphid

I'll have Primarch weigh in for the final word, but my take would be to treat them as Tolkien treated them later on more as angels, given that was what he decided on in the end as the "finished product" as it were.

I see. It's something Tolkien seemed to waffle on a lot throughout his life and it seems even in his later years he went back and forth a bit as well. Everyone seems to have a preference, so I figured I'd ask. I tend to prefer the think of them as Deities, but that may just be my paganism driving things there.

Primarch

Unfortunately its irrelevant, I'm going to call this one. No activity in the discord server & only two characters posted to the character thread. I can lead a horse to water, can't force them to drink.
