I would much rather read it. The caliber of people Bly gets to his games is just too much for me and my odd lil character types sometimes do not fit what is needed. I can't play them differently because I build them the way they demand and sometimes they don't play well with others, sad but true.

Even though I am sort of at my limit for games ongoing/in planning at the moment, I still wanna plant a little something in this thread, just in case.

Hey yall, throwing my hat in the ring with a Toreador rapper/activist who wants to stir progress before his Dark Fate drags him under. Made his sheet, just workin on his backstory

YAY!!

Q - if we are using revised edition, has the plot progression from 4th/5th edition happened or not in our story? (As some of the clans have had big changes, especially Tremere recently since I last picked up my book in 2nd ed.)

If it hasn't, are we playing in like the year 2010, or are we saying it's 2022 and just ignoring all the new stuff for the backstory? (Which honestly totally fine with as less stuff to get caught up on!  )

We are not using the 5th edition canon, no worries! This is just some old-school Vampire ported to a more modern year. :)

The world building thread mentions what year & month I'm placing this in-- October of 2020. (Special note: we will not be dealing with topics related to the Covid-19 pandemic, if only because I do feel writing is about escapism to a degree, and that stuff is still fresh/ongoing in real life, so I think it's respectful to leave it be)

Rosario was born in East Oakland, to a Black and Vietnamese father and a Mexican and Native American mother. The importance of his heritage was instilled from a young age, and with it the desire to connect with others. It's hard to find your place as a mixed child, but his answer to that was clear: befriend everybody. It didn't always work out for the best, but it gave him a unique perspective on racial issues in his city and the wider world. And this perspective grew more unique thanks to his mother, claimed the gift of sight ran through the family. His father thought she was just superstitious. But Rosario always had a feeling there was magic in the world.

Like most growing up in a hard neighborhood, he learned to act tough and proud, especially when he was not. Those very teachings strained his relationship with a very reserved father, which in turn strained his parents' relationship. When he finally  found his passion in rap and song, he used it to channel the difficult and scarily vulnerable emotions he'd been taught to hide for his own safety. And only then did he feel free.

Rosario became a prominent activist during his rise to fame, and his passion both on and off the stage is what drew his Sire's eyes to him. Her name was Illia Faye, an artist who got in good with him designing his album covers. They got close, of course. Roses can always find a way. And after a whirlwind of months, she embraced him. Then got permission after. Her status and silver tongue got her the things she wanted, he had to admit.

Except when it came to keeping Rosario obedient. He was never one to scrape and bow to the people rising buoyant on dark, stagnant waters, and he wasn't going to start after being made into an 'all powerful vampire.' Illia asked countless times over the next five years if he'd had a death wish. If only she knew the truth of it. The night of his Embrace, he'd learned when his death was coming, and how. It came to him in dreams--nightmares, more like. Whether it was the Sight finally showing itself or a vampiric portent, he doesn't know to this day. But even if his family's blessing had become a curse, he could still see a light in it. He knew how he would die; he knew that he would not live forever like most vampires dream of; so he had all the reason in the world to try to change the regime he'd awakened to.

And so he'd tried, and failed, to change hearts and minds of ancient vamps who benefitted off the way things were. He became a nuisance and a loud one at that. The final straw was when he spread rumors that he might give a masquerade straining secret performance, only to trick apathetic old vampires into discussion. It did not go over well. And it is only due to Illia Faye's standing and persuasiveness that he was shipped to Anchorage, not killed. Anchorage, a near death sentence in itself as he was told. And a new start.

First draft of what is probably a silly concept, I couldn't get the Ravnos idea to work to my satisfaction.  Background needs to be revamped to be less vague and add more detail, and I will probably have to revist Clan Emnity, Toreador, as I took it without thinking about the Prince's clan.

Helena didn’t become a model out of any desire to see the world, or make money, or to show off her body.  No, she became a model as a way to gain access to the rich and powerful.  It was an in, a way to get close to the leeches who had driven her father to drink by buying the local factory just to shut it down, to get close to the bastards who had sent her brother to prison for a gram of weed, to get close to the monsters who had driven her family to bankruptcy.

It was a surprisingly successful endeavour.  A billionaire ‘accidentally’ drowned off his yacht, a millionaire overdosed in his penthouse, a corrupt judge killed when his car’s brakes failed.  Unfortunately, the rich and powerful tend to be in the pocket of someone, or something.  A billionaire is someone’s investment, and the true leeches started looking for who was causing them so much trouble.

It was a Toreador who found Helena first.  He might have killed her for the trouble she caused, but that would be a waste.  He ghouled and blood bonded her, and turned her into nothing more than an ornament.  A living statue to be seen and not heard.  A fitting punishment he thought, to make her watch the dealings that she had fought so hard against.

Intrigue and court politics flared, and upon her master’s final death Helena was passed to his childe, then to her childe’s rival, then finally released as chaos and confusion engulfed the court.  She searched for mortal hunters to aid her in her revenge, and instead found an amused Brujah.  His message was simple, you can’t destroy a system from without, no, you must change it from within. 

Helena’s Brujah sire was hardly popular, and even if he had permission to sire a childe, few wanted said childe about.  The local Toreador still held a grudge over their loss, and so Helena was banished, sorry, ‘honoured,’ to be sent to Anchorage, where maybe the Prince can do something about the upstart ghoul.

For my Tzimisce, can I start him on a Path or would you prefer he start the game on Humanity and see how long it takes for him to spiral down the void?  I can make Metamorphosis work will still mostly keeping the masquerade, but it's not a critical aspect either if he has to start out on Humanity still.

I have a Tremere concept I've been dying to play - a sorority girl fashion major whose keen eye for colours and sharp mind for history and science brought her to the Tremere's attention. But I'm sure I could come up with something for just about any clan. :)

@RedPhoenix for this sheet!. Attributes look right. Abilities look right. Backgrounds and Disciplines look right. Virtues look right. Freebies seem slightly off. You have two more points to spend. Recommendation: I suggest buying a point of Dodge.  :) And her backstory looks great. Ajax Oil is pretty interesting, and with your permission, I might include one of it's locations for that as an IC location; there's a lot of great potential using Ajax Oil, and your PC could probably pull some favors from letting people have access to do a little secret deal or two there! My only question--how long do you feel she's been in Anchorage? (Relevant for me to know as a GM as it will give me an idea of who else other than the Prince knows of your Ventrue! Anything under a few years would still be seen as a "recent banishment.") Anyways, great sheet!!

@Rummy Tum Tum for this sheet!! Attributes look right. Abilities look good! Backgrounds...given what you spent, you are short 1 dot somewhere. Honestly? I recommend putting it into Fame if you really want to amp up the name-recognition for your guy. (I'm not gonna lie...I've never had anyone do 5 Fame before and I am super interested in messing about with that in a Masquerade-heavy domain. <_<). Virtues look great. Freebies...you are missing a point. Recommendation: Take one more Willpower. And I have the same question for you as I do for Red: How long do you think he'll have been in Anchorage? Your background write-up makes me think this might be his first few nights there, which I admit I find pretty intriguing. Wonderful sheet! :)

@PixelatedPixie for this sheet! OOOO them Attributes. They look right, but oh wow! Appearance 5! That'll have a big impact in how she's perceived by NPCs!  Attributes check out! Backgrounds, Disciplines, and Virtues all look good. Because your vamp has no Retainer or Herd, your character likely will need to reside at one of the Studios provided by Toya in order to survive for a while, but that's okay and makes for fun plot! Freebies look good. I like the idea that there was a dust-up between two clans regarding her Embrace and that the complexity of her behavior got her sent away. Very interesting--and she seems like she might shake things up a little in Anchorage, too! Same question as for Red and Rummy--how long do you imagine she's been around Anchorage? You can conceivably have been there a few years, maximum, and still be seen as "newly banished." Anyways, really enjoyed your sheet!

You can, just be aware that most in Anchorage are on Humanity, so if his Path causes his behavior to be too publicly aberrant about following the Cam's rules, he might struggle! But if he can reconcile his Path with the rules of the city, he should be fine.

You can use Freebies to buy secondary Paths if you like. It's a little expensive at chargen (7 pts a dot), but it's an option! (It's almost worth it to wait to get in-game experience after the game begins, as secondary paths are arguably cheaper to buy that way early on)

And you do get one level one ritual; that is correct!

The University is Vega's domain, but he is more than happy to share it with other Tremere (though he is hostile to non-Tremere poaching in that specific University). He feels that academia as a sphere of influence means very little if he doesn't welcome his fellow Warlocks into it with him. :)

History
Born in the city of Vladivostok only two years after the launch of Sputnik 1, Ivan was fed steady propaganda of Soviet supremacy over the decadence and weakness of the West.  And while geopolitics and the threat of mutual nuclear annihilation never appealed to him, the idea that a people could be transformed and changed within a single generation took root in his mind as he was finishing his early education.  Upon graduation from the local high school, Ivan enrolled in a university to major in biology while taking a minor in psychology.  His general outlook was that to change the mind you needed to change the body, and vice versa.

Unfortunately for Ivan, he was surrounded by lesser minds that could not comprehend and appreciate how revolutionary and history-changing his ideas were.   "Unethical" they called his experiments in polite company, "inhumane" if they were being candid.  Ivan was expelled two years into his studies and that would have been the end of his opportunities if not for his experiments coming to the attention of a local Tzimisce.  His sire was amused by the mortal's tenuous understanding of the world, and so embraced the man as he was leaving a bar one evening after conducting another experiment in finding out how many liters of vodka a person can drink before their kidney's dissolved into goo.

Dymitri took to his new unlife with the fervor of a new convert, quickly adopting the path of his sire while expanding his knowledge of the clan's fleshcrafting arts even while the Soviet Union was beginning to crumble.  But while he had finally found academic freedom, he chaffed beneath the blood bond his sire had trapped him in.  And so when his sire decided that they would move to America to join the Sabbat, he had little choice in the matter despite his mistrust and disdain for what he knew of the sect. 

Fortunately for Dymitri (though less so for the crew of the ship they were sailing on), nature interceded on his behalf.  A thunderstorm grew particularly intense as they were a few miles from arriving in Seattle, causing the ship to run ashore.  The crate he was in was tossed overboard, though remained closed.  His sire's crate had also survived the landing, but roused by the rough landing, his sire opened the crate enough that the baleful sunlight and was burned almost instantly.  The smile that crossed Dymitri's lips as he felt the bond shatter was the first bit of human emotion he had expressed in nearly half a decade.  He escaped under the cover of darkness a few hours later as the crate was waiting to be reloaded onto a new ship, and made his way north.   He was uncertain where his sire had intended them to meet their Sabbat welcoming committee, only aware that Mexico was their ultimate destination.  So he turned would turn north, with plans to cross into Canada to put as much distance between him and the Sabbat as possible.

It would be nearly a month before he would have a restful slumber.  Eventually he found a man that worked at the University of Washington in their science request department to take as a ghoul that could procure a few precious crates of the Russian soil he needed, with a new shipment set to arrive soon to provide him with a larger buffer to ensure he is well-stocked for any emergencies.   With the immediate concern addressed, he ordered the ghoul to request transfer to the city that offered the furthest possible distance from Mexico that he could consider, which was Anchorage.  He knew he would not receive a fond welcome due to his lineage despite the fact that he had never been a member of the Sabbat, which is why a second mortal was taken to provide security at his newly acquired haven.  He would have preferred a revenant, but one must work with what fodder was available. 

Presenting himself to the Prince and offering to take the first step of a blood bond to her was his initial plan.  He had no desire to find himself back under a full bond, but there were few other bargaining chips he had to use if he wished to avoid an early viewing of a sunrise.  Despite all the obstacles that lay before him, if he were still fully capable of feeling emptions, he felt something akin to anticipation.  Strife breeds opportunity for enlightenment after all, and the greater the hardship the greater the potential rewards.

@Hades for this sheet! Attributes look good, as do Abilities. Backgrounds, Disciplines, and Virtues look good too! Freebies...you are two points short. I suggest another dot in Etiquette, to reflect he'll have had to try hard to speak on his own behalf/follow customs in Anchorage to be accepted. The backstory looks great--and no worries, the Prince won't bloodbind him. So, if I'm making a Tremere sheet, I will have only my primary Path to begin with, at a level equal to my Thaumaturgy discipline? And one level one ritual?

As for the setting, would incoming Tremere of an academic bent be expected to integrate themselves into the University of Alaska-Anchorage under Magister Vega's direction, or would they need to find some other college to haunt?

@RedPhoenix for this sheet!. Attributes look right. Abilities look right. Backgrounds and Disciplines look right. Virtues look right. Freebies seem slightly off. You have two more points to spend. Recommendation: I suggest buying a point of Dodge.  :) And her backstory looks great. Ajax Oil is pretty interesting, and with your permission, I might include one of it's locations for that as an IC location; there's a lot of great potential using Ajax Oil, and your PC could probably pull some favors from letting people have access to do a little secret deal or two there! My only question--how long do you feel she's been in Anchorage? (Relevant for me to know as a GM as it will give me an idea of who else other than the Prince knows of your Ventrue! Anything under a few years would still be seen as a "recent banishment.") Anyways, great sheet!!

Re: Points - yes there was a reason for that, sorry! I see in VtM Revised that blush of life from blood spending is essentially free for humanity 8+ characters. Would Sarah having that ability just constantly active be too cheesy and would you rather I spent that 2 points on blush of life merit? If not I will likely take your advice!

Re: Ajax - awesome yes please do. I was picturing as something that the Ventrue use to funnel their people in Sarah's situation through, so the local Primogen doesn't get involved day to day but it definitely can be a great location for dealings and activities out of the public eye, especially with a motivated character like Sarah running the place.

Re: Time and Knowledge - I think it makes sense for Sarah to not be brand new, maybe a half a year or so, depending on what month the game starts she either hasn't experienced the dead of winter or the midsummer so she still has new things to look forward to but she isn't fresh off the tanker and has made waves with the local community with her outreach and attempts at getting people to work together and such. I would imagine due to that pretty much everyone who doesn't make an concentrated effort not to know the newbies knows who she is.

Another dot of Etiquette sounds good to me.   I mean, when anyone thinks of etiquette and hospitality, of course Tzimisce is the clan that comes to mind as the most sociable and welcoming to guests....No snickering in the background!  And yeah, Dymitri is newly arrived in the city.  A month sounds about right, since that's enough time for him to settle in somewhat before getting too involved in Camarilla society.

I didn't realize at the time that the University was under the Tremere's domain...which makes for some interesting fodder potentially happening as well.  I'm sure the Tzimisce and Tremere of the city will only ever have civil, cordial intellectual debates.  >.>
