Hi there!

All right, so... I own the key D&D 5E books. I haven't had any chance to play this game yet. And it really, really frustrates me. I really need to have this itch scratched. Can anyone help?

I don't have specific expectations - this could be a group game or a solo game. A solo game might be better, as I suck at playing in group games (they end up moving too fast for me...). It could have adult content or not. One big request I have is for the game *not* to be just an exercise in dungeon-crawling... I like the storytelling aspect of RPGs.

So, D&D 5E. On a related note: I'd be interested in the same as above, but for Pathfinder 1E. I have way too many PF PDFs (all legal and paid for) and I have yet to play in a single PF game that lasted beyond a few posts. Again, it really frustrates me. Can anyone help, please?

Finally, on a semi-related note: I'd be interested in a system fantasy RP in general. Whatever system you'd like to test on me, please PM me and let's talk. Chances are, I might pick up on the offer. At the moment, I own the books for GURPS 4E, Savage Worlds (SWADE), Cypher (including Numenera) and 2D20 Conan - I'd love to play any of these. But I'm open for discussing other options, too.

Any takers? Help me, please :)

Have you played any system-based games before?

What kinds of games do you like best? What kinds of stories (and/or characters)?

Yes, I did play system games. I haven't had much luck finding PF games and I'm new to D&D 5E, but I played other system games.

As for types of stories - ha, not that easy to say. I know that, when it comes to fantasy games, I don't like simplistic dungeon-delving... I'd like there be an actual story, opportunities for roleplaying etc. I'm also not terribly enamoured with games where there's a magic item shop at every street corner, every village priest can resurrect dead adventures etc. In other words, I don't like when magic and divine powers become common and mundane.

That's what I can think of at the moment...

I think it would help to have an idea of what kind of story you'd like to see. Like looking at your o/o's and other request threads, would you like something similar to those plots? For example you could do an evil campaign where a group of adventurers gets corrupted by a cult and is now secretly working to advance their agenda.
What a thrill...with silence and darkness through the night....

Actually, for this particular game, I'd say my O/Os don't matter :) I don't need this to be an adult game. I just want a normal fantasy system RP with good story, adventures etc.

There's a game I've been wanting to run again, that I think would be better suited for a small party, or instead a solo game and going less heavy on the mechanics. It's a dark fantasy 1600s-ish sort of setting. It's got faction intrigue, character drama and conflict, and though this can be tweaked, it comes with dungeon crawling. But it's not dungeons for the sake of having them, they serve story purposes, serving as backdrops for wider conflicts and so on.

Below is the campaign pitch and some of the disclaimers I had written up, the last time I had pitched this game. I would prefer to run the game over Discord, I find it makes my life easier generally. However, running it on E is also an option, it'll just be a bit more cumbersome over all.

I know dark fantasy and eldritch whatnots aren't everyone's cup of tea. Just figured I'd make a pitch for this again. If you're not interested in this, I can search for another ideas in my assortment of things. My interests when it comes to dnd roleplay run the whole gamut. Light hearted adventure and heroics going light on the system, to hardcore dungeoncrawl and tactical play.

Drakkenheim is no more. An eldritch storm of falling stars devastated the city on that woeful eve, leaving behind a meteor that would have lasting effects. Fifteen years later, Drakkenheim is a dismal urban wasteland contaminated by otherworldly magic and haunted by hideous monsters. Fantastic wealth, lost knowledge, and powerful artefacts lie ready for the taking by adventurers brave or foolish enough to venture into the ruins. And not all who escape Drakkenheim return the same.

Dungeons of Drakkenheim is a campaign book written by Monty Martin and Kelly McLaughlin, the Dungeon Dudes, and their supporting team. It's set in the gothic renaissance style city of Drakkenheim, once the seat of power for Westemar before the stars fell and the city fell to madness. A party of adventurers set out for Drakkenheim, for a many multitude of reasons. Some search for riches, renown, power, or lost family and loved ones.

For those familiar with certain pieces of pop-culture, the themes and style within could be compared to Lovecraft, Darkest Dungeon, and other media concerning the horrors from beyond the stars.

The book contains a content warning, for the subject matter contained within. What is mentioned in it, is what I intend to stick closely to, but I am not inflexible. For a few topics, I included my own thoughts on the matter. Please read through it.

Content Warning

Drakkenheim portrays a dark fantasy world. We recommend players and game masters have an open conversation at the start of the campaign to discuss their lines and veils. In support of this conversation, please note references to the following are common in this adventure:

Violence, murder, blood, gore, cannibalism, and body horror.

Degenerative mutations that cause physical disfigurement and madness/insanity. DM's Note: Body horror is a big part, when it comes to the monsters. I know not everyone will want to roleplay it happening to their characters, and that's fine. We can change certain mechanics around, to suit the player. Subbing out physical changes for strictly mechanical maladies, and such.

Rats, spiders, insects, demons, undead, ghosts, and other monsters.

Natural disasters, large-scale loss of life, civil war, displaced persons, refugees.

Moral ambiguity, social/political manipulation, religious zealotry, military nationalism.

The campaign does not contain explicit sexuality, sexual assault, racial prejudice, systemic racism, homophobia, or transphobia. Any inferences to such are wholly unintentional. DM's Note: Sexual content will largely be avoided, beyond things like flirtatious NPC's. Nothing of that sort will be forced upon players. If players/characters wish for things to happen between them, that's at their discretion.

MY VIEWS ON DARK FANTASY: The world may be a terrible place, fraught with danger, immorality, corruption and horrors, I see the protagonists in these sorts of settings to be heroic. They possess the will, might, and knowledge to make a difference in a bleak world. I'm not expecting every character to be goody-goodies (read: moral ambiguity), but this being dark fantasy does not place a requirement that every character also be dark, brooding, hard-edged and surly. The protagonists can be a bright light in a bleak world, rising to the task and rebuking evil... or maybe their flame burns out.

GAME CONTENT: Danger, exploration, and social aspects are each a cornerstone of this campaign. There will be other people, other Factions, political groups, and even monsters that can be spoken with, though all are dangerous in their own ways. This roleplay is concerned with the setting of Drakkenheim and it's immediate areas, such as Emberwood village, a relatively safe location five miles away from Drakkenheim. Anything outside of that, is not my concern. If a character cannot take any more and leaves, the player will be permitted to make a new character in it's stead. The Personal Quest, mentioned below, ought to be enough to keep characters motivated enough to remain, until the point they break.

MECHANICS: Contamination. It’s like Exhaustion, with it’s own negative effects. It’s far harder to remove than Exhaustion as well, and it’s also ickier. Gaining levels of it also incurs the change of becoming mutated. For players who do not wish to deal with physical changes, the mutations will be replaced with more severe maladies that effect stats and things.

Personal Quest. Every character heading to Drakkenheim will have one, and it may change, be replaced, or a new one given, throughout the story. Anything from slaying terrible monsters, finding someone, finding an object, rescuing someone, restoring something, anything like that, can be part of the personal quest. Completion of a personal quest can grant many benefits, beyond the roleplay value. The book suggests either an Ability Score Increase or a Feat, as general guides for what to give.

Delerium. A powerful, dangerous substance left behind by the meteors impact. Crystals of it can grow, slowly over time, are very difficult to destroy, and toxic to the unprotected touch. Mighty weapons can be crafted from it. It can fuel spellcasters with it's intoxicating power, but not without leaving behind corrupting after-effects. It is sought after by researchers, crafters, casters, smugglers and many more. Only the most devout of zealots would rather destroy it than use it.

Factions. There's five, and they all play a major role in the story. There's politicing, trickery, manipulation, and sometimes outright conflict between these groups. The Amethyst Academy, a powerful society of Mages, a blend between a continent-spanning business and a school. The Silver Order, a militant branch of the Sacred Flame church, come to destroy the delerium and if needed, raze Drakkenheim. The Queen's Men, a motley alliance of bandit gangs trying to keep Drakkenheim as a haven for lawlessness in the face of it's dangers. The Hooded Lanterns, those trying to reclaim Drakkenheim as the countries seat of power, to instill law and order, and drive out the bandits, beasts and horrors. Followers of the Falling Fire, a religious sect who believe the meteor signalled a celestial prophecy, and consider delerium a holy sacrament.

Membership is not mandatory. Interaction with these groups is almost assured, however.

Character creation: Character creation for Drakkenheim is meant to be highly collaborative between the DM and the player. The other players are encouraged to collaborate between their characters as well, should they find reason enough to entwine backstories. You don't need to come to me with a full character sheet ready to go. There's a few important things to talk about, between you and I.

Level one start

Ability Scores: 17/15/13/12/10/8 Ability Score array
All classes/races permitted, save for Variant Human. Every character gets a starting feat.
All backgrounds permitted. As well, there are other backgrounds available for Drakkenheim, that can be found within a PDF I will share with players.

No Wallflowers: I will not tolerate uninvolved characters, who are merely okay with their own existence. Characters who respond to situations with "my character has no feelings on this". I'm not having that. That attitude kills games. Characters are allowed to be wrong about things, to get things incorrect, to make mistakes. They are characters. I won't execute characters for being inaccurate about things they say. I don't expect everyone to have something to say all of the time, but, I expect characters to have character.

Roleplay Pace: Unexplained absences in excess of over a week, when the progression is waiting on someone, will result in things being shoved on ahead. Life happens, just let me know if a break is needed for a while.

I understand the two above points come across as harsh. I feel it's necessary to get my point across.

I am looking for 3 to 5 players. Please reach out over PM's for any questions, or to express your interest. I do not expect you to come to me with a fully formed character. I would prefer to do the roleplay and OOC in a discord server. We can talk in DM's for more clandestine portions of character creation.

Information about the setting, wider world, faith, arcane magic, and politics can be found within the PDF I plan to share with players. It’s a bit too much to copy/paste in to a forum post, and the formatting is troublesome to set right for E’s forum. I’ll share the PDF over discord once I’ve got some players hooked.

I had an idea for my character (or someone) having a  "gladiator slave," a melee fighter of some sort who acts as a warrior and bodyguard, a sex slave and a fighter at the same time.

https://aonprd.com/MagicWondrousDisplay.aspx?FinalName=Slave%20Collar and https://aonprd.com/MagicWondrousDisplay.aspx?FinalName=Saffron%20Slave%20Collar are two Pathfinder magic items for slave-controlling collars that could be updated to Starfinder if we want to do something with game mechanics, or the slave and owner characters could agree on how it works and then "it just does," depending on preference.  One idea I had was that a slave character could have "slaveware" uploaded through the Datajack cybernetics augmentation, possibly a specialized one.  It could have a broad effect or a singular one, maybe paralyzing or blacking out the subject on command, or acting as the Command spell, with one command or a variety (either one could include "Orgasm" of course).  The effect could be from a mystical tattoo instead of a collar as such as well, that's always a fun look.

So ah, did you mean this for the Starfinder thread in the GMs Seeking Players board, commando? :-)
