History: Rupi was born and raised in New Lund to immigrant, entrepreneurial parents, who’s mother found their fortune by operating a local seam-stressing store, while her father drove a rig, transporting goods across the country. Raised in a strict, religiously conservative family under her mother’s purview, Rupi was often not permitted to partake in many of the school and local functions, often absentee from fairs, parties, and other such social functions, though slowly she managed to find the chinks and chips in her mother’s overbearing supervision, risking to sneak out and eventually join such events in her later life.

A lack of a normal social life has caused her to become more involved with whatever “legitimate” clubs and groups her mother deemed acceptable, such as cheerleading (all girls), yoga (with her mother), and swimming (also with her mother). These she excelled at, having very few other outlets until later in her teenage years, and clung to them with a passion. When not involved in such activities, she has several personal cerebral pursuits to keep her occupied, such as chess, gaming, and reading. An avid Lord of the Rings fan, one of her primary hobbies is the purchase and painting of Games Workshop miniature models and figurines, many of which are sent by her absentee father who is always working long and late on the roads.

Lately, her rather dull life of mandated perfect grades and strict curfews has taken a turn, for the better or worse, as she managed to develop a strategy of sneaking out of her home to attend parties and some get togethers, hoping to forge more lasting friendships among. This escape from her second storey bedroom has quite an extraordinary backstory, aided in part by newly learned and discovered abilities that she has yet to explain, but is not complaining about as it given her a means to finally fly free from her cage.

She has two older brothers, five and seven years older, who are already away at college/university and are certainly never coming back to small town New Lund, leaving Rupi alone in her parent's household.

However, manifestation of such abilities leaves behind a very tell tale mess, something she has to carefully clean and tend to if she wishes to continue her nightly galivanting without getting caught or discovered.

Despite not being an adherent believer in her own culture and religion, she is very defensive in regards to it, latching on to it as a means and substitute for a personality she never had, something to set her apart, but as she comes into her own, and with the discovery of her powers, she is moving more and more away from her upbringing and truly finding her own.

Personality: A strict upbringing has made Rupi quiet and reserved, observant and passive in her actions but not without a backbone to stand up for herself. She likes to laugh and smile but is also quick to anger. A lack of social interaction in her youth can sometimes lead to awkwardness, but she is more than willing to laugh at herself, and not take such missteps too seriously.

Powers:

• Wings: Two scars had long since grown on Rupi’s back, inexplicably, and focusing too much on them one day in her bathroom caused two majestic wings to sprout from them, painlessly, but massive and arduous to handle in closed spaces. They also shed a metric fuckton of feathers, which is a hassle to clean up. But with practice and endurance, they allow Rupi to take flight to the skies, though she has yet to fly higher than the tallest building in New Lund, she is always increasing her range and speed with each new time she manifests them.
• Eye-Lasers: Not yet discovered, Rupi has always had amazing eyesight, ever since she was a girl. Always felt like she could see through walls even, though mostly through barriers of the thinnest, sheerest materials. With enough focus, she might even protrude small beams, lasers if you will, though at present they have no real power beyond that of normal laser-pointers. But as they begin to develop and grow, they can soon be able to melt tank armor or concrete with enough time and pressure. However, they have the unfortunate side effects of straining her eyes, sometimes to the point of bleeding, which can have her sightless for hours, even days, through overuse.

Abilities:

• Painting: She loves to paint, not only her nails, but figurines, models, miniatures, even blank book covers. It’s quiet, controlled, and therapeutic.
• Athletic: Yoga and cheerleading has made Rupi very flexible and enduring. Not exactly a girl you’ll see in the front but she’s been apart of the squad since she’s been old enough. And with her yoga upbringing, she is very bendy and capable.
• Swimmer: Good at holding her breath for long periods of time, if ever necessary. Combined with potentially bad landings from the sky, she should always aim for water.
• Great eyesight: No matter how much time she spends peering at screens or at small print in books, in the dark, her eyes never seem to be affected or harmed. Through her eye-powers, she even possesses minor x-ray abilities.

Limitations/Weaknesses: See above. Her wings are a pain to put away and a bigger pain to clean up after. Her eye powers can lead to periods of temporary blindness and bleeding. An overly strict mother can put a damper on all her activities, never mind the world being in danger, she better make curfew, or she’ll get a verbal lashing to say the least.

Ons: A sexually repressed upbringing has, invariably, caused the opposite in Rupi, as she has used her recent sneaking out to experiment and learn about herself. Only being around girls has influenced her orientation to be towards girls. And she has discovered, about herself, that she is a strap-on enjoyer, and with her yoga flexibility, she has all the skills necessary to hit it from any angle. Offs: Kiss-and-telling, don’t want her parents finding out, she has a reputation to maintain, especially with her parents hopes of a heterosexual marriage in Rupi’s near-future. The predominance of jocks at New Lund High has put her off men for a while. All the writer’s Off’s, see here.

• Temperance Joy Dixon - Fellow good girl crew member, they study and read together, the closest to a friend that Rupi's parents would approve of.
• Alexis Van Valkenberg – A little intimidating despite being shorter than Rupinder, Alexis is the Head Cheerleader and sort of Rupinder’s role model and leader in life, though the blonde might not know it yet. 
• Cato Bishop – Disgusting ass bad boy, mom says stay away from that runt.
• Rhys Warren - The worst girl in the world, scandalous and naughty. Rupi avoids vigorously.

Paisley was always what her mother called a ‘tomboy’ and could never be convinced to wear dresses, or play with barbies, much-preferring playing in the dirt in her cargo shorts and super-hero t-shirts. On one notable occasion, when she was nine, Paisley even took the kitchen scissors to her own hair, chopping a few inches off before her parents could stop her. Paisley’s mother never minded much, but her father cared much more for gender roles and the ‘conventional life’. It was a source of constant arguments between the two. Eventually, these arguments led to a messy divorce between the pair, and Paisley's father left when they were eleven.

Things were rough the next couple of years, as Paisley’s mother, Harleen, had to adjust to raising a child with half the support and income she had had before. If Paisley hadn’t been bullied before, she was now that she had fewer new clothes and trendy toys. Still, her home was loving, even if her mother was working more and home less often. This changed however when her mother met Viktor ‘Vikki’ Reeve. Vikki was a new to town, handsome and wealthy businessman, drawn to New Lund by one of the new companies opened as a result of the alien crash. Vikki and Harleen met by chance one day going for coffee at the same shop at the same time, hitting it off immediately. By the time Paisly was thirteen, Vikki and Harleen were living together, and Paisley had a stepfather.

Meanwhile Paisley was beginning to realize something was different about herself. She insisted on cutting her hair short, and hated the changes puberty started having on her body. She started crying nearly every night, insisting to her parents that something was wrong with her. Thankfully, with the family’s new access to wealth, Vikki and Harleen were able to find counselling for Paisley, who would soon come to the realization that she was actually a he. In the summer between middle school and high school, Paisley became Alec. Vikki took him to the barber to get a masculine haircut, and Harleen took him to the store to get clothes fitting his new identity. In the summer between sophomore and junior year, Alec got top surgery. By junior year, Alec felt well and truly themselves. Though there was still the consequences of being a queer kid in a small town to deal with.

Personality: At first, Alec appears confident and cocky, uncaring of how others perceive him and with more mouthy attitude than is wise for someone his size. However, Alec doesn’t take shit and doesn’t stand for others picking on those who are weaker or more vulnerable, and has gotten in his fair share of fights defending those victims. This is especially so for other queer kids. Those who get closer to Alec can see that he is actually quite caring and has a streak of insecurity hiding underneath his facade of confidence.

Powers: Alec can control/manipulate shadows to change shape, size and density. He can take a small shadow and expand it to blackout a room, hide a person etc., but he cannot create shadows where there are none (i.e. in a well-lit room). He can also manipulate the density to make shadows act as a solid object, though this ability is limited to single, simple objects (i.e. he can make a bat to defend himself with, but not a gun, or another complex shape). He can also see better than the average human in complete darkness, though the “night” vision is grey-scale rather than in colour like his normal vision, and his eyes are more sensitive to bright light than the average human.
Abilities: Has a driver’s licence, and can drive standard as well as automatic transmission, Alec is passable in hand-to-hand combat, though he hasn’t learned a martial art, rather it’s a skill developed from real-life experience, is a skilled visual artist, with pencil and/or ink being his preferred medium.

Limitations/Weaknesses: Bright light can be painful and blinding. Alec won’t hesitate to jump in to defend another and doesn’t know when to back out of a fight.

Just letting you know that my character Griffin has shadow powers as well. While I personally don't mind the competition, I would say take a look at him just to be sure. You'd also be able to check out the other powersets if you wanted to do something else.

• "Demon" Form: Alec can turn into a humanoid shadow "demon". This form is taller and stronger than Alec, with clear vision even in complete darkness. This form can protect Alec from harm the same way a helmet or bulletproof vest would, with similar limitations. When in this form, his voice is raspy and echoing, almost unrecognizable as human, let alone as Alec's voice. This form is weakened by light, and blinded by the light the same way a human is to darkness. If there is too much light (i.e., complete sunlight, or a brightly lit room), this form is unusable.
• Shadow Scrying: Alec can observe someone or something from the perspective of their shadow. He can see and hear everything he ordinarily would if he were in the place of the shadow he is using to 'scry'. This power is not useable where there are no shadows (the subject he wishes to observe must cast a shadow while he is 'scrying' for the ability to work), and while he is observing through the shadow's 'eyes' he can't see or hear anything from his own perspective.
• Shadow Manipulation: Alec can control/manipulate shadows to change shape, size and density. He can take a small shadow and expand it to blackout a room, hide a person etc., but he cannot create shadows where there are none (i.e. in a well-lit room). He can also manipulate the density to make shadows act as a solid object, though this ability is limited to single, simple objects (i.e. he can make a bat to defend himself with, but not a gun, or another complex shape).

Limitations/Weaknesses:

• Alec is more sensitive to light than average; bright enough light can be blinding and even painful.
• Alec won't hesitate to jump in to defend another, often to his detriment. He doesn't seem to know when to back out of a fight.

Hello Elliquiyans! It's me, your fellow Elliquiyan Cold Heritage. Wowwie, this game is still here! We've lost a few folks and some've just come back from a hiatus, and it's maybe time for some new blood to help give things a little kick start!

So I'm giving this a bump in the hopes of maybe getting a few new people and some new characters into the mix! Specifically, I'm hoping to get some people who might not mind stepping up and writing antagonists. We've lost the inimitable, irreplacable ThunderSplash to the harsh mistress of IRL, who played Mason Archambeau and Serenity Macgoy, a pair of complex characters who kept things fun by being nuanced not-always-nice types who didn't always have the best interests of other characters at heart. Now, I don't want someone to come in and take over those specific characters, and I'm not looking for someone to come along and play a full-blow four-colour supervillain complete with a twirled handlebar mustache, but some characters who can come in and cause some conundrums and be a little dastardly are sought!

But also not looking for complete monsters. Someone who's already at rock bottom and beyond redemption is a bit much for this game. The right character'd be a villain during their start of darkness, like when Lex Luthor was still Superman's friend and still had genuine dreams of using his brilliance to make a better world before making all of the choices that led to Lex being part of a group called 'The Legion of Doom.'

Don't let the number of posts intimidate you if you are considering joining. A lot of the posts are devoted to interpersonal interactions between characters and there are no 'must read' posts or events that've affected every character. Some characters are more connected than others, but lots have room on their dockets for plots and openings because of sadly now absent characters.

There's a discord, too, if you want to participate in that, but it's not required by any means.

Among the many drones that existed within Archambeau, he was sought as either a ruthless advisor or near-expert in what was known about the alien artifacts around the world. Called upon to oversee the company’s relationship with the air base in New Lund, what was felt as something of a punishment is slowly turning into the opportunity of a lifetime.

Personality: Holds a great affinity for the scientifically gifted, and conversation about such pursuits would normally be a surefire way to his heart, provided his attention could be held long enough. He is a taskmaster, yet leads by example as oftentimes one of the last to leave the lab and the first to arrive. He holds anyone’s authority outside of his own or that of his superiors as shaky, at best. The following of the law is viewed more as an appeasement than any real recognition of power.

History: Theophania had always dreamed of becoming a detective, enlisting in the police academy right out of high school and serving with distinction through various state levels of policing, from a mid-sized city in the northeast, to a state trooper, and finally recruited directly into the offices of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Her career came to a staggering halt for a time as she found herself now at the bottom of an entirely different pit, through there was opportunity aplenty for those with less…ethical concerns about how they got the job done. Much of her career is covered in black ink due to the various ways she was wiling to bend the rules, a time where she was absolutely committed to earning that bright star of approval and notice from her superiors no matter what the cost. Eventually, a turn of conscience at an inopportune time got her regulated from startling heights of ambitious field ops to the stifling halls of Public Relations, forced to work as a liaison between the agency and local civilians that happen to become affected by the Bureau’s affairs and operations. She has been assigned to the New Lund operation, to assist the much larger government and corporate interests in the local secret in dealing with the pesky locals of the backwater town. However, she has ambitions to claim her way out of this punitive position and reclaim the thrill and adrenaline of being one of the leading covert agents in the country. And this time, she won’t repeat the mistakes she made the first time.

Personality: At her very core, she always had a desire to go good, to protect those who couldn’t, and bring those who did to justice. She loves problem solving and troubleshooting, central interests of her that sparked her forensic mind state. Being a lover of puzzles and conspiracies, she tends to weave her own, sometimes inadvertently, in her daily dealings. Though unintentional, this has led people to presume her as a nefarious, deceitful individual, working through means of entrapment and manipulation to gain her ends, and these have been traits she leaned heavily into as a federal agent and now is the reputation that follows her. During her time in New Lund however, away from the upbeat vigour of high stakes cases, she has learned to mellow out immensely, recapturing some of that initial drive to help and care for wayward creatures much like she had been, as seen in her taking on of Freya Elk, driven on by a set of shared goals and values with her mother, Malia, a candidate for New Lund’s new Sheriff and lead Law Enforcement Officer. And totally has nothing to do with her work.

• Field Operative: A history of policing and investigation has equipped her with dealing with violent criminals, being both a trained marksman and a proficient user of martial arts and hand-to-hand combat techniques.
  
• Investigator: A storied cop and federal agent, she has brought over sixty criminal offenders to justice in her long career.
  
• Infiltrator: Theophania has gone undercover before and spent long weeks in the field doing surveillance, capture, or elimination. She knows how to blend into a crowd.

Limitations/Weaknesses:

• Intriguing: She can’t help but weave nets and webs around individuals in her life, no doubt borne out of some fear of loss, as both her parents weren’t very active in her life.
  
• Bad Reputation: For a good five years, she was a ruthless Federal Agent who had no qualms bending the rules or causing a little collateral to achieve her objectives. Several of her cases have long stretches of redacted information, but the right connections can get their hands on some dirty dealings Theophania engaged in. It has yet to catch up with her.
  
• Totem Pole: She recently got knocked down to the bottom. This has left her with a bitter taste of resentment that can flare up at times. And motivates her in unsavory ways to get back to the top.
  
• Indulgent: She dotes way too much on Freya, giving a pass to the girl’s various troublemaking and pursuits of physical prowess. Theophania does not yet know or fathom that her favorite unofficial ward might be someone of special interest to her employers.

History: Body Solomon graduated from West Point Military Academy just before the onset of the War in Iraq, where he went on to successfully command a tank company through the first years of the war. Despite a graduate of the military education system, his indoctrination crumpled before the onset of private military contractors he encountered overseas, finding their system of engagement, with higher payer and less rules, to be far more effective in achieving objectives and suppressing insurgency (often at great collateral expense). It was a no brainer at all when Solomon’s contract was up and he jumped at the chance to transition into the private industry, where he quickly excelled in off-the-books black ops, as both agent and then fireteam leader. He eventually developed a network of contacts amongst regular army and private military to form his own unit, Shadow Coat Security, which now operates at the discretion of certain paymasters in the United States.

Personality: A military man, he is humorless and laconic, despising wastage and indiscipline. He is fully focused on his task at all times, overseeing several formations of armed individuals and their objectives.

Abilities:

• Rifleman: Solomon knows his way around his guns, having worked with weaponry from almost all nations, becoming more than just proficient in his use of them.
  
• Tanker: Former tank commander, he is no stranger to utilizing heavier machinery in coordination with his forces.
  
• PMC Commander: Having created his own contractor group, with almost one hundred employed professionals, he is able to project power on a global scale. All for the right price.
  
• Mercenary: He is loyal only to that green and gold, country and flag be damned.

Limitations/Weaknesses:

• Complacent: The military always had a certain way of doing things. Through various checks and balances and hierarchies, everything will be done according to plan. There is no need to think outside the box, unless it’s to make a bigger boom.
  
• Ruthless: Has few friends, and only allies of convenience. No one will weep if he happened to disappear. Nor will he think twice about the fallout if he did the same to anyone else.

Ons: Military hardware, killing power, making sure he’s the deadliest in the room even with his paymasters.
Offs: Lack of discipline, deviation from the norm, weaklings and empty slates.

I notice you have a rule against having powers for the sake of kink-fulfillment, but I could still in theory play a tentacle-user, right?  Like a human being who can grow tentacles from their body at will.

I apologize for the tardiness of this reply. It's been difficult for me to properly formulate my response - I wrote several but ultimately I feel they all failed to contain the civility, respect, and politeness a fellow Elliquiyan is due. I hope it suffices to say that I do not think such a character concept is suitable to this game.
