This is good thinking.

Thank you!  :D  It's nice when too-many years of GMing and trying to find interesting ways to balance things actually comes in useful. ;)

If Dad is in the Air Force maybe for business reasons he bounces back between the USA and the UK because his job involves liaising with the RAF about a joint venture called Project Panoptes. New Lund's USAF base can have some research going on for Project Panoptes, so Dad could have visits as the plot demands rationalized by checking on Project business on the base.

I had been wondering about some sort of "liaison with allied forces" role, that could keep having him sent overseas (and in circumstances where a late-addition tag-along daughter might be hard to accommodate) - but I hadn't thought of the research route.  I like that idea, especially since it potentially opens up the whole alien tech side of things for Plot use.  ;D

Quote from: Outcast on April 20, 2022, 02:35:02 AMOr, to be very helpful (in light of our shared tendency to equivocate) there could be a third option: Nameless's father could be alive and well, but still in the Air Force.  Wise Old-Timer could be the 'full time' carer, while Dad shows up for plot-appropriate periods of time in New Lund whenever work permits him to either take a break or to get posted to the local base.

Love it! Abby can definitely roll with third option for their living conditions with do-gooder relative and Nameless, plus drop-ins from Nameless's father. :D

I hope that this is acceptable… and I can try to trim it down, if it’s too verbose…. ;D

Name: Caitlin Moore (Caitlin Hamilton on some records)
Age: 17 (can be 18 if this would be preferable; it’s just reflecting the earlier start to schooling in some parts of the UK)
Sex: Cis-female
Gender: Female
Sexual Orientation: Lesbian / Bi / Frankly rather confused

Appearance: 5’10”, fair-skinned redhead; starting to add significant curves to leggy athleticism.  Though she sometimes presents herself very respectably, she tends to prefer an ostentatiously unfashionable style she’s dubbed “nerdpunk”.
Faceclaim: Sabrina Lynn

History:  That the well-bred and lovely Caroline Moore wed a handsome foreigner after a whirlwind romance was not a surprise; that she chose an American serviceman rather than an Italian photographer or French yachtsman was rather a shock.  True, William Hamilton was some sort of hot-shot test pilot or researcher (perhaps even something rather glamorously covert), and he did look decidedly good in a dress uniform… but still: all that discipline and duty surely wouldn’t be a good fit for a self-consciously artistic soul like Caroline!

In truth, it wasn’t.  The romance was real, but only two years after the birth of the couple’s daughter - Caitlin - the pair agreed to separate, with divorce following not long after that.  Caitlin remained with her mother, who returned to stage and screen to resume life as a moderately successful actress: she specialised in femme fatale and victim roles in British television murder-mysteries and period dramas, with side-lines in modelling and minor scandals.  Caitlin grew up adoring her, craving her attention and loving the holidays spent with her in ski resorts, Monaco, Istanbul and Paris: between times, she lived at her boarding school, or trailed around sets in Caroline’s wake.  Caitlin herself even appeared on-screen a number of times, as a photogenic young girl glimpsed in the background of assorted scenes… though she remains grateful that her mother had enough sense to resist any temptation to try to force her into the life of a child ‘star’.

Her father remained a part of her life, though only intermittently in person.  For the most part, he was a voice on the phone or a glitchy figure on a video chat - and by her teens, Caitlin sometimes sarcastically referred to him as “Uncle Bill”: certainly a relative, and fun to have around, but only actually there for an occasional visit.  Those tended to be exciting whirlwinds of shopping and trips and special treats… before he vanished again for another six months or so.

Still, Caitlin was largely happy: well-off, academically accomplished, and athletic enough to relish sport without being sucked into the pressure-filled world of elite competition, she enjoyed life and looked forward to a happy future… until her mother’s ‘minor tummy bug’ turned into something more serious, which wound up being diagnosed as a serious liver complaint… which killed her in a matter of months.

Abruptly, Caitlin’s dual citizenship became a defining feature of her life.  Caroline’s surviving relatives were too old or too irresponsible to take charge of Caitlin, but as an American citizen from birth there was no bar to her father stepping in to help out - or to kidnap her from her former life, as she angrily informed him.  But after he’d covered the debts run up during her mother’s final illness he could no longer afford to keep her in her fancy boarding school.  Instead, he brought the bitter, heart-broken girl to New Lund: specifically, to stay with the family who had helped him to figure himself out at a similar age.

Sandra and her husband Jack had had been cool, do-gooder thirty-somethings when they took in their troubled nephew Bill.  By the time that Caitlin arrived, they had grown into being grey-haired pillars of the community - but they were still keen to do what they could, and devoted a good deal of time and energy to trying to help their grief-stricken (and somewhat spoiled) new charge to adjust.  It took a good while, but their kindness and warmth has done a lot to win her over: she does now vew their house as a haven in which she can relax.

Bill himself is often present, spending as much time as he can at the airbase near New Lund - but his work keeps drawing him away, often to some of the countries that Caitlin misses being able to visit.  His relationship with his daughter is still strained at times, but Caitlin has accepted that he’s doing the best he can.

Personality: Nerdy, grieving, overtly British, and acutely aware of how poorly she fits into her new home - it is perhaps little surprise that Caitlin’s superpowers have manifested in a defensive fashion.  They don’t help her to feel any more at home, but they do at least provide her with a shield against the world.  Given her tendency to speak her mind (and her many and varied issues with her personal situation) she frequently finds herself in need of whatever help she can get.

Long accustomed to finding academic work pleasantly easy, she fell from her former heights while distracted by her mother’s illness, and has now found herself dropped into a significantly different educational system.  At points she still shines, but her reputation is rather more that she knows (and doesn’t know) weird things than it is for actually being smart.

Still, she’s strong-willed and - in spite of her own flashes of anger management issues, that sometimes make her lash out without good cause - she loathes seeing people victimised.  Many of her clashes with bullies start when she tries to defend others.  Unfortunately, arriving at school as a lone outsider, she has often wound up blamed for even situations that she didn’t initiate, and she is now better-acquainted with the school counsellor than she is with anyone else in the establishment.

She’s often at her best on the soccer pitch, where she can be a successful part of a group effort based on skill and accomplishment rather than social belonging and conformity.

Power: Resistance(?)  Caitlin suspects that this falls into three parts, though she’s not got much clear evidence for the existence of any of the categories.  She’s (half-)jokingly begun to think of it as ‘personal autonomy protection’.
* Targeting Immunity: other superpowers struggle to perceive Caitlin’s existence.  Directly-targeted powers tend to simply fail to find anything at all to lock onto - not even an identifiable void, merely the complete absence of any sort of target.  Powers that work more indirectly have no such problem: e.g. an individual with Hulk-style superstrength can just swing a fist at her and watch the results, but the kid who makes people’s heads explode can’t ‘find’ her with his ability at all.  She’s generally imperceptible to the powers of clairvoyants, telepaths, and empaths; indeed, such a ‘silence’ when she’s clearly physically present might identify her to a relevant super as being decidedly unusual herself.  With effort, she can suppress this effect - either reducing it or wholly removing it while she focuses upon doing so.
* Somebody Else’s Problem: when she tries, Caitlin can extend her imperceptability into the realm of mundane senses.  She cannot (thus far) become truly unnoticable, but she can make herself very easy to overlook.  If she’s already the centre of attention, this is unlikely to help at all - but if there are distractions around, she can very easily slip from people’s minds: she’s dubbed this the “Somebody Else’s Problem Field”.  This is the talent she most strongly suspects is both real and under her control, though it usually activates subconsciously when she simply hopes to avoid attention.  It’s helpful in somewhat reducing the frequency of bullying, and can come in useful in some sporting endeavours - she’s unusually successful in intercepting the opposition’s passes in team games, for example.
* Durability (maybe): Cait’s honestly unsure whether she’s merely mundanely quite good with pain and has had a good run of luck with injuries, or if she’s got a little bit of ‘weirdness’ helping her out on that side, too.  In her sporting career, she’s picked up an array of knocks and strains - but most have turned out to be rather milder than was first feared, and all have healed absolutely as swiftly as could have been hoped for.  At best, she thinks that she might have a ‘cinematic’ sort of level of toughness: still prone to injury, maiming, and death… but likely to stagger woozily away from an accident rather than be borne off in an ambulance.

The first two of these powers can potentially be shared with others.  In general terms, Caitlin presently has enough ‘juice’ to cover 1 ½ people, their clothes, and possessions carried on their body (in backpacks, etc) - with herself counting as one person, and the coverage extending via direct contact.  So if she rests a hand on someone’s shoulder, they will generally be subject to a half-powered version of her targeting immunity - operating much as her Somebody Else’s Problem effect does for mundane senses:  not impossible to locate, but harder than they ought to be to find, and very easy for a superpower to overlook.  Should she touch two people at the same time, then all three (herself included) will receive the half-powered version of her immunity.

The Somebody Else’s Problem effect draws upon this same “one and a half people” pool: she can apply the SEP field to herself on top of her targeting immunity; extending it to anyone else would either require remaining wholly-visible herself, or draw power from her primary effect.

Abilities:
* Fencing: having pursued it from the age of 8, she was awarded the (loose) equivalent of a black belt ranking in her favoured weapon (foil) not long before her mother’s death.  She started fencing to learn to be a swashbuckling heroine; she kept it up for more than 8 years because she fell in love with the sport.  It’s left her with some ‘advanced’ combat instincts - she tends to reflexively parry incoming blows, and is very good at judging the distance between herself and potential threats - but she’s got no actual combat training… and all her kit is still in Britain.
* Football (of the Association / ‘soccer’ variety): The best sport that Caitlin can pursue in lieu of fencing.  She’s tall, athletic, and has developed an impressive knack for seeming to anticipate the opposition’s plans and darting in to intercept passes (often with the aid of her Somebody Else’s Problem field).  She tends to play in central defence or midfield and is a regular in the first team, not that many people in New Lund even remember that the girls have a soccer team….
* French: since early childhood she visited France at least once a year with her mother, and formally studied the language for several years at school.  She’s comfortably fluent in conversational French, and can expect to handle texts on most non-specialist topics.
* Genteel pursuits: if one should learn it while filling one’s evenings at a posh boarding school or when jetting around Europe with one’s well-off mother during the holidays, then Caitlin most likely did.  She can ride (tolerably), ski (badly), play the piano (though you’d want her to practice a fair amount for even a supporting role in any kind of performance), sing (a fairly nice alto, but with a limited range), sketch in charcoal or pencil, waltz, and cope with the formal etiquette of a fancy dinner.  Virtually none of this has seemed useful since moving to New Lund.
* Mimic: courtesy of travels and a lot of time with her mother, Caitlin can adopt a wide array of accents.  Most would swiftly be identified as not-quite-right by a native, but to outsiders they can sound rather more convincing.  Her ability to imitate specific individuals is very limited, however.
* Swimming: In the off-season for kicking a ball around a field, Caitlin’s primary physical activity is swimming.  She’s represented the school a couple of times (in backstroke and butterfly), but is seen by the coaches as a useful back-up rather than a key member of the team.  Still, she’s much more at home in the water than most.
* Trust-Fund Kid: (technically).  Her inheritance from her mother is in a trust fund, which she cannot access until she is 21.  Till then, a portion of any profits made by the investments are made available to her guardians to help to support her.  In practice, it currently means that she’s occasionally prone to wondering how much she’d be tolerated if people weren’t paid to put up with her.

Limitations/Weaknesses:
* Anger-Management: things are improving, but she’s still prone to outbreaks of angry resentment - at the loss of her mother and her home and the chance to see her friends, the end of her travels in Europe, at being stuck in a strange land, and at the world as a whole for just being so unfair.  Naturally, this has often helped to make her a particularly ‘fun’ target for bullies.
* Nerdy Outsider: Pop-culture references often pass her by, she is still struggling to understand what ‘normal’ is in Mid-Western America, and she is prone to casually dropping references in conversation that make no sense to anyone else.  She didn’t even watch Sesame Street, and what on Earth is a Bagpuss?
* Political: in the UK, she’s rather to the right of centre.  That makes her a radical left-winger by most US standards: healthcare, employment rights, gun ownership, climate issues, and more - there are many topics on which she’s prone to speaking her mind.

Ons: Long, soft hair.  Kindness.  Intelligence.  The right sorts of laughter.  Lips and eyes to lose oneself in.  Athletic toning.  Being admired.
Offs: Cruelty (especially when she finds herself guilty of it).  Wilful ignorance or stupidity - simply not knowing something is fine, but choosing not to think is appalling.  Macho posturing.

Character Theme: Sit Down, by James
Plot Seeds: Her father works for the Air Force, on something called Project Panoptes.  Whatever it is, it involves frequent international travel and collaboration with the Royal Air Force.
Character Connections: Abigail Hamilton: cousin (daughter of her father’s brother), and de facto foster-sister.

BlueEyedBard

Submitted for review. Let me know if something I have doesn't work or if I need to adjust powers.

Name: Quentin "Quinn" Mizell
Age: 18
Sex: Male
Gender: Cis
Sexual Orientation: Bi
[Floatright][/float]
Appearance:
Dark hair that can be in many different styles depending on mood. Slight frame, 5'9", with slightly olive toned skin, and green eyes.

His sense of style is as loud as he is. Quinn is never afraid to express himself in ways that other people may not like.

Faceclaim: Ryan Potter

History:
A story not much different than many others from the town of New Lund. Two middle class, college educated professionals meet, date, get married, buy a two story with a big back yard, and get pregnant. He a local tax attorney, her an optometrist, and a son they both loved unconditionally in spite of never really understanding him. A good family, liked by their neighbors, and aside from a science fiction novel worth of shipwrecked aliens, an ideal Midwestern life.

Quinn, like many before him, and many around him, grew up with aspirations that went beyond their small town. His personality never quite fit in from the very start. Where his parents were quiet, he was loud. Where they were calm, he was wild and eccentric. And it only became more of a contrast when he learned to talk.
Quinn liked to question authority, and the status quo. He liked noise, he liked to talk, and talk, and talk…and he still banged on pretty much any surface he came across.

About the only person in his family that really seemed to understand the young rebel was his uncle from his mother's side. A fellow black sheep and family outcast. He played in a band that traveled the country opening for other bands that were much more famous than them.
It was him who taught Quinn to play the guitar, and drew the young man to a lifetime love of music. A passion that wasn't easy to explore in New Lund if you weren't in a church band or the school's marching band. Fortunately an outlet was offered to him in the form of a job at the local, small town, radio station.

A little 70watt station that reached most of the county and was typically most valued by the local farmers for growing updates in the mornings. They also did a live broadcast of the high-school football games, that's how Quinn got a job there. It started with an internship through the school his junior year, then they kept him on to be the technician for the football games, which essentially involved lining up the adds to play during the game, and switching the broadcast between that and the announcers. It was a tedious job but it led to Quinn eventually getting his own segment where he could play the kind of music he wanted…three nights a week, from 10pm-1am, when nobody was typically listening to the station anyway. But he took full advantage of the time and curated a show that played new and old music from every genre, even drawing in new listeners, younger people who had given up on radio for online streaming. He was even working on trying to get his broadcast online, but that was an uphill battle all its own.

Aside from bringing new music to the airwaves of New Lund, Quinn stays very active in the non-sports aspect of his school and community: joining or starting clubs geared towards social change, fighting for causes, and generally "upsetting the apple cart", which made him the target of plenty of bullying over the years. But he remained stubborn enough to push back even harder whenever someone tried to keep him down.

Personality:
Quinn is loud, outspoken, and very active. He has a tendency to start talking a mile a minute when on certain subjects, and doesn't have much of a filter. With his friends he is quirky, and goofy, and fiercely loyal. He would give any one of them the shirt off his back if they needed it.

With others he can come off a bit pushy or demanding, not willing to let things go when he feels passionate about them. Not some of his teacher's favorite qualities.

But generally happy, high energy, and almost always just a moment away from breaking into song. Good student with a high GPA (even if he can get on his small town teacher's nerves from time to time).

Powers:
Equipment Control - With a touch Quinn can take control of most electronic equipment, even equipment he doesn't personally know how to use (i.e. most vehicles) - This ability is limited to by the device's natural functions. He can't make things function in a way they weren't designed to (like making a cd player fire out discs like a cannon). The more devices he tries to control at once, the less control he will have over them.

Personal WiFi - Quinn can extend this control to a 5ft radius of himself to items that might be slightly out of reach. As soon as the object leaves that radius his control quickly wanes before losing control entirely.

Interconnected - Depending on the object, Quinn's touch control can extend to other objects that are directly or wirelessly connected to the object he is touching. This control is weaker or stronger depending how far away the connected object is. Also, hard wired equipment is easier to control than wirelessly connected.

Abilities:
Audio Tech - When you are your own on air technician you get very familiar with the audio console, microphones, monitors, speakers, button panels, CD/DAT/Mini Disc/Turntables…he can run an entire sound booth.

Casual Musician - Quinn isn't very musically endowed himself, which is why he loves playing other people's music so much. He can dabble a bit with a harmonica, acoustic guitar, and his most proficient instrument a ukulele.

Long Distance Runner - His only saving grace in a town focused on sports was an ability to run. He could be fast when he needed to be, but distance is his strength. Because of that he always had a place in track/field, and cross country.

Jukebox - Quinn's personal music library, and knowledge of such, is vast. He's the guy that can always name that song the someone else hums the tune of.

Limitations/Weaknesses:
Weakling - Toned but with little muscle mass, Quinn is not an Intimidating foe. But that doesn't stop him from running his mouth when something rubbs him the wrong way.

Opinionated - Quinn has a hard time letting things go, especially when he feels someone is being wronged.

Non-Driver - Quinn has never gotten a drivers license and hasn't shown much desire to learn to drive a car.

Ons:
Music lovers, kindness, open mindedness, orange soda, long soft kisses, hand holding (romantically and in solidarity), ugly laughing

Offs:
Cruelty, bigotry, fighting, the smell of gasoline

Character Theme: Be a Rebel
Plot Seeds: TBD

Sorry, this thread blew up a bit and I forgot to respond to this. That's probably an okay idea if it's stuff she could do while it's in direct contact with her. If she could do it remotely with her mind, then it'd need to be pared down a bit.

Here we go.

Name:Veridian Wells! ‘Very’ to her friends. It’s even her brand.
Age: 18
Sex: Inquisitive
Gender: Female
Sexual Orientation: Interested

Appearance: Pictures, text, whatever you like. Be mindful of site rules regarding images.
Faceclaim:

History:Raised on the farm, she had the fashion channels on satellite, Runway shows in Prague on TV always interested her mother. Sitting with her father as he planned the next day, walking the fields with him of a morning. This is the life of a farm girl, and she likes it. Cotton is the life of her family. Fabric is her passion, though she is biased to cotton. School is where she cut her station, envisioning new outfits even approaching people (some say bullying) to offer them ideas and even outfits. She even designed several outfits for her girlfriends then made duplicates and sold them in the next town over on consignment at the flea market, before moving up to a booth in the crafts mall. Now there are three racks in the city, and two
Personality: OH, she is a fashionista! Loves everything about clothes, even challenges. Out-going, loves the romantic languages, even speaking Italian almost fluently. Though little opportunity here to practice. Being a Fashionista is fun! Can be serious, but it must be a serious topic, business, the future, life or death, disease, anything else and she is Fabulous!

Powers: She can animate and manipulate cotton. She can encourage cotton plants to grow. Once harvested, she can animate the cotton fibers to do her will. From fiber, to thread, to cloth, if it is cotton, she has control while in contact. Roll of gauze can roll out to act as a tendril, she can use her life to reinforce the material making it stronger, or more resilient to specific damage, or gain specific qualities. Able to lift more than she can, able to resist cuts or fire, gain the water resistant quality or slick, or fluffy and muffling.
Abilities:
Knows cotton
Math genius (Ok, just good with numbers, and math skills)
Speaks Italian, Spanish (not Mexican), and American
Knows cotton farming business, not the machinery, but the office and the planning
Fashionista! She is developing her own label. Fashion is her life, and life is fabulous!

Limitations/Weaknesses: When she gives her cotton qualities not inherent to cotton (fire resistance, super strength, even animation to start though I see this aspect diminishing over time), she must use her life force, causing headaches, nose bleeds, dizzy spells.

Ons: Strong-silent types, skilled, educated, glasses, domination
Offs: blood, toilet, heavy abuse, micro-macro
Character Theme: Purely, highly optional.
Plot Seeds: Also purely, highly optional, but if you have things you want to do, throw them here for me and other writers to see! It is easier for us all to work together if we have somewhere to start from!

Still need a face claim, though thinking something dark, and Mummy stylings for a hero life costume if it ever gets that far. I really like the look of the Mummy girl from Buffy, but don't have anything like that on E! If anyone has suggestions I would love to see them.

Bowen

Name: Konstantinos Doukas people want to shorten it to Konstantine, whatever
Age: 18
Sex: Male
Gender: Male
Sexual Orientation: Hetero

Appearance: curly brown hair, sea green eyes, good complexion, athletic
Faceclaim: Evans Nikopoulos

History: His grandparents raised him. Mom left the picture when he was three, he didn't remember her at all. Dad ...occasionally came around. He thought his father was a criminal, he would show up at crazy times, always in the middle of the night and wasn't there in the morning. There would be money left behind, some 'listen to your grandparents and do good in school', and that was about it.

Konstantinos was a naturally gifted athlete. Ok at school but before he was five, some major coaches were talking to his grand parents. He started training for the Olympics. He was pretty proud of himself. They had a modest home and lifestyle, if he did well at the Olympics he would be set for life and he could care for his grandparents in their later years.

And then then out of nowhere (well as far as he was concerned) the country went bankrupt and the austerity measures were put in place. It was like the world just changed and transformed into hell around him in a matter of weeks. People kept on talking about stupid shit like loaning percentages...he wondered why they weren't talking about so many people committing suicide or just dying from lack of food. Still no dad.

Necessity is the mother of a lot of things. You discover parts of yourself when you are desperate that you didn't know existed. How far you are willing to go. The fact that someone who called you a friend since you played together as early as you can remember was trying to brain you with a rock because you had groceries. And more important, the line you would never cross.

Years later, he was seventeen, he learned how to cook and repair things--talents he figured that he would have paid other people how to do. He was even good at them. He learned to break into places that were abandoned and steal, no big deal, a lot of people knew how to do that nowadays. Laundry, you don't realize how important it is to look and smell clean until you pass by a tourist and the look of disgust hits their faces. He finally had a handle on his new life. Parkour to run from the gangs of kids trying to ambush you with rocks. Fight the people trying to roll you that you didn't see. He kept in shape, not doing the traditional exercises but all that talk about life and lemons and all that.

Then his dad showed up again after years. Turns out he wasn't a crook. Just pretending to be one. Also, he had been discovered and now they had to flee the country. That was a lot of bad news in the first five minutes. The 'good' news was that dad had decided to rob the crooks at the last minute. They had enough money to start a new life because the money he stole was American dollars. There were the issues of passports and such but Konstantinos had learned how to survive and that meant learning to be a bit of a criminal. He knew a guy.

Later on that day they had left behind everything, bought new clothes, cut their hair, showered and were on a plane to somewhere in America. Some place with horses. Apparently his parents had vacationed here around the time of his conception and he stayed with his mom when she decided not to return to Greece until he was about three. He didn't remember any of that.

They opened a restaurant in the first week and lived above it. Mr. Greek went up on the sign and Konstantinos had two weeks before summer ended to get 'good' with English and start school. At least he didn't believe his father was a criminal anymore. So now he was learning to mop, clean toilets and everything else you do in a restaurant. Oh...and he discovered he could control water with his mind. He should have come to America earlier.

Personality: Konstantinos used to be confident almost to the point of arrogance. He had his good qualities too. He loved his grandparents and was generally a descent person. Then life threw him under a few double decker busses and that arrogance was stripped away. It was strange that when he was at his worst he realized more compassion and empathy when he was at his best. It changed him. He still has his confidence, but now its not just from sports, its from knowing he can survive what life throws at him. He can easily be charming and witty, but he sometimes struggles for words too much to be smooth or slick.

Powers: Hydrokinesis Konstantinos can create, shape, and manipulate water. He seriously wants to call this ability Water Release...damn you Naruto!! He freaked out the first time that he created water...well who wouldn't? As he toyed and experimented with this ability he could see some practical uses to making fresh water, you know, like when you are thirsty. But when he thought of a duck and the water shaped itself ..mostly into a duck he kinda wondered at that, until the duck picked up the rock beside it. Ok, now that was sort of cool.

Abilities:
Athletics An Olympic hopeful he was going to enter the decathlon. Is rather good at Parkour and has always been at home in the water.
Close Combat Learned to fight, he had to. This is street fighting to survive. Nothing fancy.
Cooking Learned to cook from his grandmother. He has a flair for learning to make something from seemingly nothing.
Larceny He had to learn how to steal to provide for his family.
Linguistics Can read/write Greek. Can speak Italian, German and accented English.
Medicine Part of being an athlete is understanding the various injuries you can have. He wasn't squeamish and often got called in to help out. He picked up a fair bit from the sports doctor.
Persuasion Can be very charming when he wants to be.
Repair Yeah, finding other people's junk and bringing it into your own home to use was never something he had planned. His grandfather was handy up until his hands started to shake.

Limitations/Weaknesses:
Hydrokinesis As he approaches his limit he will get headaches and nose bleeds as a warning to ..well stop.

Academics Was going to make it as an athlete. Had ok marks but now with the language barrier he is going to need help.
Marksmanship No feel for firearms. Can look sorta threatening holding one but prefers not to be near them.
Pilot Can ride a bike/motorcycle. Discovered he has no ability to drive a car.
Subterfuge Doesn't have time for lies. He's been lied to all his life about his parents.
Survival He is not at all good at this. You would think after years that he would be.

On/Offs: Bowen's O/O's
Character Theme: Born Ready
Plot Seeds: Stranger in a strange land. So far he wants to make friends and maybe discover he's the son of Poseidon (barring that, figure out how he can do what he does). Get back into the school teams and start training.

Character Connections:
None yet but wants to make friends.

#138
Name: Temperance “Ren” Joy Dixon
Age: 18
Sex: Female
Gender: Cis-female
Sexual Orientation: Exploring

Appearance: Temperance physically personifies all that is wholesome and good about the farmlands of New Lund. She’s 5’5” of homegrown , Midwest beauty. Eyes the shade of late summer leaves just as the lacquer of fall touches them with bronze and hair the colour of that golden hour when the sun hits the horizon to gild the endless plains. Years of honest work on the family horse ranch have sculpted her feminine body with lithe and lean muscle. Blessed with fair skin that easily takes the kiss of the sun in summer with a light dusting of freckles across the bridge of her nose and the tops of her shoulders. Whether in her Sunday best or mucking out the stables, Temperance is always meticulously clean and well presented, she typifies the old cliche of the kind of girl you want to take home to mom.
Faceclaim: Florence Pugh

History: June Dixon always worried about what would become of her middle daughter. The eldest of her brood had naturally fallen in line to become the inheritor of Guiding Light Ranch, the acres spanding horse breeding, riding school and stables that was originally founded by her husband, Johnny’s, grandfather. Her second born son had developed a deep connection with his lord and saviour, Jesus Christ and had won himself a place in the illustrious Harvard Divinity School to pursue his calling. June and Johnny’s first daughter was her momma’s chance to live her pageant dreams of bringing sound christian morals and practices to the title of Mega Ultimate Grand Supreme. Temperance attended her first beauty pageant when she was six months old and consequently won her first title. As she learned how to talk and revealed her own personality it became disappointingly clear that she was not going to be the first evangelical Miss World. With a clear passion for the horses on the ranch and her rapt hero worship of her eldest brother, Isaiah, June resigned herself to the fact that Temperance was never going to bring home the crown and sceptre for her or God. Two years after her first daughter, June finally got her wish for the chrisitan princess she so desperately wanted. Her second daughter, Faith, was the obedient and demure little girl that dazzled at pageants with both her beauty and her piety.

June’s concern over Temperance only continued to grow as the girl herself did. Her daughter would stray far on the property on both foot and horseback, and always returned home with the tallest, wildest of tales: stories of bright, blinding lights and having knowledge on things she had no right to be knowing. Both parents took it as their child having a fanciful imagination, a way of seeking out the attention that was so light on the ground for being the middle of five children. It wasn’t until Temperance didn’t return from the pastures on an evening of her tenth year that heer parents realised there might just be some truth to her stories. The entire family was fraught with her absence and it was Isaiah that had found her small body, smeared with earth, cold and unconscious in the northern pasture. That part of the ranch had always been off limits to the children, Johnny giving the explanation of it being inhabited by a small population of endangered eastern Massasauga rattlesnakes. There were no venomous snakes protected under the United States Endangered Species Act on Dixon property but the northern pasture was the landing site of some of the alien debris that rained down on New Lund twenty years previously.

Fearing his daughter would uncover the truth that his family had been bound to silence by shadowy government agencies, Johnny Dixon made it his personal mission to distract her by any means necessary. Seeing the passion Temperance had for the animals on the ranch and her intuitive interaction with them, Johnny zealously encouraged her to embrace it. That guidance led her to barrel racing where she finally found her forum to shine. The high velocity sport gave Temperance a focus that seemed to preoccupy her mind and give her a strong sense of self that lead not only to a whole glut of titles but also respite from the flashes of forbidden knowledge.

Temperance seemed to be finding her place in the family order. Between races, school, chores on the ranch and church there was little chance to give time or thought to the oddness that surrounded her early childhood. On a balmy midsummer night only days after her eighteenth birthday, the whispers of her past called. She hadn’t been out to the northern pasture since the night Isaiah found her in the centre of the perpetually scorched earth, alone and vulnerable. The compulsion took hold of her body, moving her in a dazed fugue state until she found herself at the epicentre of the blacked ring where no living thing grew. A barrage of visions crowded her mind in near indecipherable images and sounds. Truths that had been hidden from the family teased in the blinding lights and flashes of distant worlds. The overwhelming cacophony of foreign, forbidden knowledge was too much for her young mind to process and the friendly darkness of unconsciousness claimed her. Temperance woke in the stables that housed the riding school’s horses, their panicked whining had summoned her parents to investigate. The flickering lights of the stalls furthered her discombobulation as the static crackle of electricity seemed to fill Temperance’s young body. The fear from echoes of the vision recently granted and those from her past combined with the sudden realisation that all she had been taught in church and scripture at home was nothing but subjugating lies, erupted from her body in a shocking, illuminated display and concussive force.  In thinking that her daughter had been touched by the hand of God in the manifestation of her powers, June fell to her knees in rapture of witnessing a miracle…but Johnny desperately fought to reel back in horror from the product of his years of obfuscating the truth.

Personality:Sunshine in a bottle. Sweet and patient with a heart as golden as her hair, Temperance is everything that the Good Book should teach a young woman to be. Generous with her time, smile and support, she truly believes that there is good in every person if only you look hard enough and encourage it to shine. She embodies all that is right with small town living…despite her entire perception of reality crumbling. She works diligently to maintain her ever rosy attitude but cracks are slowly starting to become visible. The dissolution in her faith, the entire core of her life shaken down to its foundations, has left her with a ravenous sense of curiosity. Her sheltered life has kept her from much of not only the culture of her peers, but the experiences of what it means to be a teenager. Temptation now doesn’t hold the heavy weight it once did and Temperance still carries enough naivety of the real world to be easily exploited.

Powers:
Electricity Manipulation:
  • Electrical Conversion: Can absorb the ambient electricity from around herself in order to fuel her powers. This allows her to blackout a small area before releasing the held energy as focused blasts of light. Temperance has yet to establish the limit of how much power she can safely absorb or how long she can contain it. She has shown to have some degree of control over said ambient electricity, including using it for the sole purpose of disrupting electronic devices such as cellphones and LCD televisions..
  • Light Attacks: She is able to fire blasts of intensely bright light from her hands which also can also manifest as heat or even concussive force. As light, her energy is capable of temporarily (and eventually permanently) blinding anyone or anything with physical eyes . Using her energy as heat, she has burned through a section of metal fence and has also used it to cauterise wounds. As a concussive force, she has the capability to knock grown men off their feet and move something to the equivalent size of SUV a handful of feet.
  • Bioluminescence: Able to make her eyes and hands glow on command. Temperance has also exhibited glowing eyes when she feels intense pleasure.
  • Electrokinetic Flight: Can fly, glide and levitate through manipulation of electricity. She can fly at varying speeds, levitate and propel herself without taking flight, including enhanced jumping by a short burst of flight.

Abilities:
Animal Empathy: From the smallest little bug to the largest draft horse, animals seem to have some sort of connection with Temperance. She has been able to break in the most stubborn and ornery colts with little more than soft words and patience. The near feral barn cats that live on the ranch follow her around as she sets to work on her chores, hoping for a chance to curl up in her lap and get well deserved chin scratches for their relentless crusade against vermin.
Accomplished Rider: Growing up on a horse ranch meant Temperance was pretty much born in the saddle. There has yet to be a horse that she couldn’t convince into a canter or gallop. This ability led her to the world of barrel racing that did a nice job of filling a trophy cabinet in the Dixon’s family room. From high speed riding to jumps and handling, you could be mistaken to think that she was somehow as much attached to the saddle as the horse was.
Driving Her Whole Danged Life: If it has wheels and something to steer it, Temperance can drive it. Growing up with trucks, tractors, dirt bikes and quads on acres of prime MIdwestern real estate has meant that she has a fairly natural adeptness to pilot any land based vehicle.
Flashes of Divinity: Her mother is desperate to believe that the snatches of visions she receives are from the good Lord Himself but Temperance knows this to be a complete fallacy. What she sees is difficult to interrupt and many still make little to no sense. The benefits she has gleaned from some of them are almost mundane in nature: knowing where a lost item is, predicting a change in weather or having knowledge of events she had no part in. She passes off the physical manifestation of receiving a vision as seizures, which she is still mysteriously lacking an official diagnosis for.
Impassioned Prose:Academia is not an area in which Temperance has shined. She’s a very average student but with the single exception of writing. Catching the attention of her English teachers, her prose has a delightfully unique voice that far surpasses any of her other academic abilities in both her vocabulary and imagination.
Voice of an Angel: Temperance has been blessed with a rich altos that can climb up into the territory of a mezzo-soprano. The talent was nourished by her family and church to take her place in the choir. She can still be found singing her praises every Sunday, despite the words now holding little meaning to her.

Limitations/Weaknesses:
Lack of Electricity: If there is no source of electricity for Temperance to absorb, she has no power to harness.
Just a Girl: With no super strength or super durability, Temperance is as susceptible to injury as any other human at her level of fitness.
Wide Eyed and Lovely: Due to her sheltered and staunchly christian upbringing, she has made great effort to keep herself distanced from much of the stark realities of her fellow students. Most pop culture references will be lost on her and her trusting attitude often gives way to gullibility. Her natural instinct to nurture and give also opens her up for being exploited.
Crisis of Faith: Temperance is now trying to navigate a godless word. The comfort and assurance she once had from her faith has now been ripped from her. Where temptation was once denied, there is a growing thirst for knowledge and new experiences, which could lead her to being easy prey to some less scrupulous types.
Familial Expectations: Not only is there always choring to be done, certain behaviours and standards are expected at all times. Where once there was a sense of security in knowing her place and what was expected of her, Temperance is now starting to feel the heavy and constant suffocation of her real growth at the hands of her parents. Since the discovery of her powers, her parents fully expect her to use “God’s Light” as a “Warrior of Christ”...but Temperance is beginning to discover her own path.

Character Ons: Being on horseback, the rush of adrenaline from racing, snuggling up with a loved ones, the scent of fresh hay bales, secrets spoken in whispers, laughing until she can’t breathe, watching the sun both set and rise, the sensation of taking that first bite of a crisp apple, honesty, and being truly heard and seen.
Character Offs: Bad personal hygiene, liars, the manipulation tactics of religion, aggressive flirting, bad manners, overt sexuality, being underestimated, cruelty to animals, braggarts and being the centre of attention
Player Ons & Offs:  Please take a dip into my F-List for reference.

Character Theme: Bastille - Distorted Light Beam
Plot Seeds: 1. Her mother is on a mission to out her (and any other teens that show up with powers) for her “God given gifts”
2. Having her entire world exposed as a fraud, all the tenets that were driven into her are now being questioned. The path to temptation is glittering and inviting before her but the instinct to be a “good girl” still holds strong.
3. Temperance’s naivety and lense to see the best in people opens her up as both gullible and easily exploited…but none of the good folk in New Lund would possibly prey on that, right?
4. She had four siblings, two older brothers that have graduated (Isaiah and Gabriel), her younger sister Faith is a sophomore at New Lund High and the baby of the family, Malachai is in his last year of middle school.

Character Connections:

Thunder Splash

#140
Name: Mason Archambeau
Age: 18
Sex: Male
Gender: Cis-male
Sexual Orientation: heterosexual

Appearance:
Faceclaim: Victor Perr

History: Mason comes from a long line of Achambeaus. They were one of the first families to settle in New Lund back when it was still a part of the American frontier. The oldest (and largest) estate in town is where he has spent his entire life. Mason’s father, Sylvester Archambeau, (FC Jeffery Dean Morgan) is the CEO and lead researcher of a weapon’s contractor that works with the military, and he frequents the nearby Air Force base almost as often as he is in his company’s headquarters far off in Washington D.C. Because of this Mason only gets to see him in spurts, but when he is around Mason worships the ground his father walks on. He is everything the boy aspires to be, confident, intelligent, ruthless, and a cut throat business man. Sylvester sees the drive in his son and feeds it as often as possible when he is around.

Due to the family’s well off nature and the fact that dad is gone and Mom is busy running every social event, PTA meeting, and anything else for The who’s who of New Lund Mason spends ample time alone. Though alone is a rather relative term when you have a house with servants and butlers, but the help don’t count as real people. Mason has the best of everything as he grew up, the best clothes, the newest gaming systems, sports cars when he got his license, horses of his own to ride around the grounds, but it was never enough. His mother even got an official polo team set up for New Lund so her son could be captain of a sport that had class, and wasn’t as needlessly violent as football.

But filling your time with stuff just wasn’t enough. That wasn’t what brought Mason joy. What he really enjoyed was power. Ever since grade school he lorded his status as New Lund royalty over all of the other students. Bringing up “My daddy this!” and “My daddy that!” whenever he could to remind those around him whom they were dealing with. Starting in middle school Mason even had the fortune of learning how to throw parties when Mom and Dad were away. He didn’t do it as often as others, like Vincentio, but when a party went down at the Archambeau mansion you knew it was going to be a banger.

With clout and money to spare Mason also used his good fortune in the genes department once puberty struck. With fast cars, a seemingly endless flow of cash, and a nice face to boot you could always find girls hanging on and around Mason. He was living the high life and he was going to succeed his father as king of New Lund, and he would let nothing get in his way.

Personality: Mason is haughty, self-centered, cocky, and all together an ass and a prep through and through. He looks down his nose at everyone because he ‘knows’ he is better than all of them. Conniving and ambitious as can be he looks at all interactions with others as transactional, and he is determined to get the better end of the deal. He seems to gain some sick joy from making others feel lesser and the air around him seems to attract like minded flunkies and cronies. Usually on the good side of a lot of the not so intelligent jocks and thugs in the school he likes to keep a posse around himself so they can continue feeding his enormous ego.

Powers:
Pyrokenesis: Mason can both create and control fire from his own body. Whether it is small flames like making his finger a lighter or engulfing his entire body in flames he is able to ignite his own body and not feel any pain or burn. He is even able to project the fire outwards as jets of flame or huge fireballs as well. His powers also give him some control over other open flames, but as of yet he can only begin to manipulate fire if he comes into physical contact with it first.

Abilities: Multilingual: Mason knows French fluently, Spanish enough to hold a conversation, and German to the same level as well. The perks of being able to afford the best tutors money can buy.
Master Equestrian: Mason has ridden horses since he was a child. He feels just as natural in the saddle as he does walking on his own two feet.
RICH!: Mason is loaded! He has multiple credit cards his parents let him use however he wants. You’d be amazed what money can buy.
Connected: Everyone in town knows of Sylvester Archambeau. And his son is not afraid to throw his name around to remind them of his connections to the most powerful man in town.

Limitations/Weaknesses: Water: Mason’s body has to be dry for him to be able to produce flames. It’s an annoying limitation he is trying to find a work around for, but being in a massively land locked area he isn’t too concerned with this drawback.
Proximity to Power: Everyone in town knows Sylvester Archambeau and how ruthless, cruel, and underhanded he can be if he doesn’t get what he wants. Being his son and a mini version of his father most people try to avoid Mason if they aren’t trying to use him for his connections and family. It’s lonely being on top.
Ego: Mason’s ego seems to have no bounds. He is not immune to flattery and sucking. He loves brown boxers and yes men, and so never really hears real criticisms. He does not take criticism well.

Ons: Money, submission, and skinny girls. He likes fancy food, fancy clothes, horses, boating, fast cars, any and all of your classic upper class status symbols.
Offs: Being dirty, poor, or ugly. He doesn’t like those he seems as below him. And since that seems to be everyone in his eyes he will settle for you at least being useful. If you have no use for him he has no use for you.

#141
Name:Veridian Wells! ‘Very’ to her friends. It’s even her brand.
Age: 18
Sex: Inquisitive
Gender: Female
Sexual Orientation: Interested

Appearance: Dark Hair, big glasses, sketchpad and joy
Faceclaim:Ava Taylor

History:Raised on the farm, she had the fashion channels on satellite, Runway shows in Prague on TV always interested her mother. Her mother was tore up from a fire in her youth, though her father always compared her mother to the greatest beauties of history. The fact that her mother’s maiden name was Hellen Troy just encouraged him. “The face that launched a thousand ships.” When her daughter found the music video of Madonna singing Vogue, they all learned the dance steps, the song and the philosophy. Dance, and fashion filled her life from there.

Abilities:
Dancings in her own world: She has trained classically in dance, though during the dance breaks cannot stick with the standard.
Math genius (Ok, just good with numbers, and math skills)
Speaks Italian, Spanish (not Mexican), and American
Knows cotton the material, strength, weave, cut, overlays, mixtures, and differences by origin.
Knows cotton farming business, not the machinery, but the office and the planning
Fashionista! She is developing her own label. Fashion is her life, and life is fabulous!

Limitations/Weaknesses:
Polyester everywhere: An environment with no cotton means no material to manipulate.
A bit of myself in every piece: When she gives her cotton qualities not inherent to cotton (fire resistance, super strength, even animation to start though I see this aspect diminishing over time), she must use her life force, causing headaches, nose bleeds, dizzy spells.

Ons: Strong-silent types, skilled, educated, glasses, domination
Offs: blood, toilet, heavy abuse, micro-macro
Character Theme: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GuJQSAiODqI
Plot Seeds: Dealing with fame tied to her label.

Cold Heritage

Thank you, fellow Elliquiyan, and have a wonderful day.

HopeAndFaith

I know things are underway, but I'd love to join you all if you're still recruiting! Open to any feedback/connections/potential - will likely do (and am happy to make!) edits, but here is my pitch for now! I have tried to read everyone's character and tried not to conflict with anyone, but let me know if I overlap too heavily with your character concept. Thank you!

Name: Dakota Baker
Age: 18
Sex: Female
Gender: Cis-female
Sexual Orientation: Straight-ish, has dabbled to excite boys… but also enjoyed it more than she would fully admit.

Appearance: 5’7”, fair-skinned, blonde. Dakota keeps her slim physique with rigorous workouts and dieting. She wears the newest fashion whenever she can afford it, and knockoff brands with modifications when she can’t. She has large blue eyes and refuses to let people see her without make-up.
Faceclaim: Marina Laswick

History: Despite the fact that she would never admit it, confirm it, or allow it to be said - Dakota does not come from a particularly wealthy family. She is the youngest of three children, and only daughter, born to Melissa Anderson Baker and Dennis Baker. Dennis works in an auto shop in town and Melissa works at the local bar. There are some rumors that Dennis is involved in shadier aspects of the town, but if it’s true - it rarely has brought money in for the family. (though there have been times when he has purchased extravagant gifts.)

Dakota’s older brothers were both fairly good football players in their own right who have moved off and accomplished little, but her father always reminiscences about their past successes and brief glimpses of glory. This has pushed Dakota to get involved in sports and athletics wherever she could. She doesn’t love football as much as she says she does, but she is a prominent member of the cheer-leading team.

Her academics have not been anything to note. She gets solid Cs mostly, enough to stay in extra curricular activities. She gets slightly higher grades in any course that she can convince other people to do the majority of the work for her. (Papers, group projects, the like)

Personality: Being on top is very important to Dakota. She needs to make sure that her father talks about her glory days as much as he does about her brothers - but it’s a much harder road being a girl. She is determined to be the queen of her class, to be the head cheerleader, the prom queen, the social hub. She can come across as snobby and judgmental, and is very careful to pick her social groups.

She makes sure she is a presence, and acts flippant about any/everything. She will make sure to appear as though remarks about her don’t faze her, when in reality they cut her pretty deep. She enjoys things that she wouldn’t admit: fishing, camping, hiking, and other things that don’t get the largest social spotlight.

Her likes are more dictated by what is cool and popular than what she truly loves and, so, she hasn’t figured that out what things she truly likes on her own yet.

Powers:

Mathematics: Dakota has developed an innate and strong intuitive understanding of mathematics. She can solve most ‘simple’ (college level) mathematics without really thinking about it. The largest issue is that she cannot explain mathematics at all. She can solve very complicated problems (the more complicated, the longer it takes), but couldn’t tell you how she got to the solution. (She would make a terrible tutor). She really only noticed this because the summer work that she was assigned came very easily - but it will likely end her up in detention for suspected cheating when her grades dramatically improve.

Quick Calculations: Along with an understanding of mathematical equations, Dakota can put that into practice. She is naturally athletic, but that is now enhanced with an understanding of the physics behind her actions - Dakota knows what jumps and moves she can do, she can balance herself perfectly, her muscles moving in unison with her understanding of the physics. This leads to another application…

Perfect Aim: The knowledge of physics, and math makes it so that Dakota has perfect aim. She knows exactly how to throw things so that she can hit anything, and can throw sharp objects so the point-bit always hits. She can’t break the laws of physics or anything like that - but she’ll always hit a mark that’s possible to hit assuming she can see what she’s throwing at and has a decent understanding of the conditions (wind, weight of the object thrown, tensile strength of the bow, etc.)

Abilities:
Athletic - can do flips, cartwheels, jumps, and is a strong runner and gymnast.
Socialite - good at picking up social cues and current trends
Outdoor skills- Dakota’s father and older brothers are big outdoor folk, so Dakota has grown up fishing, camping, and had outdoor skills that she absolutely will not admit to, but quite enjoys.

Limitations/Weaknesses: As mentioned above, Dakota cannot explain her understanding of math, this will likely get her into trouble (detention) when her answers don’t match up with what she can explain.

Ons: People loving her and treating her kindly, passion, adrenaline, being outdoors, strong men, muscles, money, hard sex, being popular
Offs: toilet stuff, nasty smells, lack of confidence

Character Theme: Looking for the right song!

Plot Seeds:
1.As mentioned, Dakota will likely get detention for ‘cheating’ in math, then be forced to stay after school and get tutored. Also jeopardize her position on the cheer team.
2.More to be added/created!

Character Connections:
Excited to find some of these! Currently looking for/open to:
* People in her social circle (Cheerleaders / footballers)
* People she may have given a hard time to for NOT being in her social circle
* Future tutor for math when she gets detention for cheating
* Anyone who might live in the poor parts of town that she could know
* Anyone who might have been a previous fling/hook-up

Writersblockade

Name: Griffin Masterson
Age: 18
Sex: Male
Gender: Male
Sexual Orientation: Straight

Appearance: Pictures, text, whatever you like. Be mindful of site rules regarding images.
Faceclaim: Aubrey Joseph

History: Antonio Masterson was born and raised in New Lund after his father, Elijah, emigrated there to live what he would call a peaceful life. Opening a hardware store, he became a pillar of the community whose store survives to this day due to the strong ties it has to the town. While Antonio appreciated the life his father created for him, he yearned to see the world, and the most sensible way for him to do that was through the Armed Forces. Joining the Air Force seemed a no-brainer.

Antonio was there when the crash occurred, tasked to the unit in charge to retrieve the piece of wreckage, his quick thinking gave him standing, and that standing made him a man on the move. His new promotion meant that he could afford to give his highschool sweetheart Gloria the kind of life she deserved, and they lived a life spread out in many parts of the world, and raised their son Griffin along the way. The military ideals of his father would, at times, clashed with thoughtful rebellion of his mother, but the idea of family and the understanding that those two viewpoints were what made him who he was, has guided Griffin through times of calm and adversity time and time again.

When the project in New Lund came calling, Antonio decided to uproot the family for what he hoped was the last time. Griffin had to say goodbye, yet again, to all he knew and loved. To start the school year a stranger in a strange land, and come face to face with the inheritance he would have never suspected.

Personality: There’s always a way. This is one line that might best describe Griffin’s way of being. He has used items that wouldn’t be normally associated with tasks he’s been assigned to get them done. He works to challenge people’s traditions, in an effort to find a different way of doing things. This makes him very accepting of things that don’t fit social norms, and people for that matter.

Powers:

Darkness Manipulation

Slide by night: Travel through shadow (whether that is actual shadow on some between space shadow realm is up to GM discretion)

Shadow Weaponry: Defense or offense is just a shade away! Weapons formed from his mind to wield become solid. His darkness comes with weight when a barrier is required.

Darkness is his Ally: Manipulating the dark around him gives him an opportunity to hide in plain sight, and manipulate solid objects within reason.

A large enough shadow source can lift a person. A sliver would lift a set of keys.

True Night Vision: The absence of light presents him with a view of the world only the shadows can provide. Eyes appear as dark as oil when engaged.

The Other: Possible GM “Ultimate” where multiple tendrils of shadow are manipulated at once.

Weaknesses:

Sudden bursts of light can eliminate constructs

Same bursts can also temporarily blind him, even more so if his night vision is engaged.

Powers are, of course, weaker in the sun than in the night.

Abilities: A child of the world, he’s fluent in German and Spanish, and has passable Mandarin. He knows enough Japanese to almost get by without subtitles, but writing can be hard, as his Mandarin can get in the way.

- DIYer - Imparted to son and now grandson, Elijah’s need for self-sufficiency has literally given his family the tools to take on many around the house challenges. This has extended to small engine and vehicular maintenance. If he can’t fix it, then you definitely need a professional.

Martial Artist - Boxing was available on every base he’s lived on, but he was met with a dubious look from his father the day he pointed at a movie he was watching and said “I want to do that, Daddy!” Antonio had made his son a deal that if he boxed, he could take lessons in whatever else he was interested in. While he maintains proficiency in boxing, especially when taking on the old man, his love will always be the grace and power he exhibits in Wushu.

Bladed and staff weapons knowledge - While he has not had to apply practical application to his knowledge, thankfully, he has trained on numerous weapons, but has a favorite in the chain whip and broadsword.

Something of an artist - While no one’s rushing to get his work into a museum, a look through his sketchbook would reveal places and people in detail. It became a thing to do to pass the time when there was no one else around. Which was, at times, quite often.

Limitations/Weaknesses:

Connections? They’ll break you. - Griffin’s had to pick up and go so many times that the process of doing that has hardened him some. Loss is expected, and what is here today can be definitely gone tomorrow. His father’s last station was long enough to make him believe he might have gotten over that hurdle. The girl he was interested in would never know (she did, but she was just as bad) and it served as a cruel reminder of the cost of military life.

Stranger in a Strange Land - Going into a senior year with people he don’t know can make life especially difficult for him. Social situations may be awkward as he tries to “find his level”

Military son - There are expectations he carries that others might not, and depending on the town’s view of those from the base, there can be issues with the local townsfolk, regardless of his grandfather’s standing.

Ons: Light-heartedness and physical contact are what gets through to him. Connection will be something he craves the moment he tastes it.

Offs: Smokers. Just never made sense to him. Personality bulldozers. You don’t have to be overpowering to be noticed!

Character Theme: N/A

Plot Seeds:

Antonio was potentially called in after a development with the program. Possibly has been stationed in known artifact sites.

Griffin may or may not have had direct contact with an alien artifact

Can serve as another potential military tie to the project in other ways the GM sees fit.

Family Faceclaims:

Elijah Masterson - Carl Lumbly
Antonio Masterson - Idris Elba
Gloria Perkins-Masterson - Gabrielle Union

Character Connections: TBD

Here’s my O/Os!

I don't know who this Muse person is, but if it explains away the voices in my head, then I'm all for it!

So I few quibbles here. I'm basically like 95% okay with things here.

The only I want to say no to is 'slide by night.' Because Cassie's singular power is uncontrolled teleportation, I don't want to let someone else have the power to do what amounts to the same thing, even if there is a distinct flavour to it and the stylistic limitation built into it by restricting it to shadows.

With regards to 'darkness is his ally' I would like the understanding that 'within reason' entails that it could lift an 'average sized' person - say an upper threshold of someone like your other character Jason. Someone like Knut or another significantly large character would beyond Griffin's ability to lift initially but could be possible later as the characters' powers grow.

'The Other' is also something to reserve for later on, a few events down the line.

Since he's able to do quite a bit I am being a bit more conservative than I would be with someone with a narrower range of abilities. I do hope I'm not being too unreasonable. But I'm of course open to discuss things.
Thank you, fellow Elliquiyan, and have a wonderful day.

I'm going to be honest here. I have no control over what someone else decides to use for their power, and I seriously believe that my guy's works in a way that potentially benefits you as a GM. Where does he go when he's under? How does it potentially relate to the story? There's some good stuff to mine there, and I don't want to sacrifice it because it seems similar to someone else's. There's going to be powers overlapping. This is true for any comic universe, and I don't like the idea of having to stunt my character for someone else to feel more special about there's. My guy is unique, because I made him that way. He's special, because I made him that way. Don't waste that.

Weight limits on shadow lift is fine. I believe in limiters, and as you've noticed, I placed a good amount on my guy so that he doesn't get out of hand. I ask that you reconsider, and if you feel more limiters are needed in order to feel comfortable, that's fine.

For instance, I envisioned fly by night not as teleportation, but faster transit. It does not happen instantaneous (though in super short distances it may seem that way) it may cut down on travel by half for someone walking, but by no means it is "Poof, we're here."

I'm not averse to power overlap. We have that already and I think we've done so far a good job of putting character first so that those common aspects in super powers and back stories are an asset and not a hindrance or a punchline. In this specific instance - which I admit comes because I had a different vision than you did - my issue is that Cassie has one super power, and no others.

But because my misgivings stems from me being wrong I won't belabour my position and, in admitting my error, I relent.

If the power is faster transit, then I do not have any concerns. It is fine and may stand.

My position with regards to 'darkness is my ally' is not so much that I wish it to be more limited, but to establish what 'within reason' means. We're two different people. I don't see things the same way you do. It's not bad. I know that you're willing to work with me. That's very clearly demonstrated, and if that does not come across and I don't show that understand you are willing to meet me halfway, I can only apologize and try to do better. But I get that you're working with me. I've asked a lot of you, sometimes without communicating well, and you've always delivered and I appreciate that.

With regards to 'the other,' I'm not saying no. What I mean there is that I'm saying okay, but not right off the bat. Maybe it doesn't even need to be said. I know that you understand about building up. It's more about me communicating. But maybe, again, I have misunderstood and if that is the case I apologize once more. Seeing it flagged as an 'ultimate' makes me believe that it's the character's ace in the hole. So my instinct was to think, 'yes, that's good, let's save it and use it for for a big damn hero moment after we've established a baseline and shown how cool he can be, then have bring it out for when we've got a scene where he can take things to the next level.'

So, to sum up:

The transportation power is okay now that it's cleared up what it does and how it works. It's my bad.

We establish a common understanding for how much he can move with shadows.

Establish whether it's okay that 'the other' is an 'okay, but save it for later' type of move.
Thank you, fellow Elliquiyan, and have a wonderful day.

I very much appreciate that, truly. We can establish that the shadow has a tendril strength of, say two hundred pounds

The Other is purely a GM device, if needed. I had some thoughts about it that I can share, but I don't consider it a part of his arsenal
