Text effects in posts

Hi,

As part of a character sheet I would like to have
a) Red flashing text (if the memory of the tag doesn't cause immediate epilepsy or vomiting, think of the old <blink> tag
b) Redacted text.  Black bars in the text where information ahs been removed. 

I can't see a way of doing the flashing other than making the text a gif and then importing that.  Redacted text I could do by changing the background to black and putting some nonce text in (highlighting isn't important) but there doesn't seem to be a way of doing this.

Is it possible to write HTML and CSS directly in to a post?  I can't seemt o get it working if there is and looking at the various tutorials gives no mention.  If there isn't, is there a quick and easy way of achieving these effects?

There's Unicode character 2588 that you can use to make 'redacted' bars - although it's literally just a black block (no 'hidden text' component, gibberish or otherwise)

You can pull it off of the 'Character Map' applet in Windows, use the Unicode direct entry method (that I always botch) or copy this to someplace and paste it in as needed:   ███████

There's a very slight separation between the 'characters', but the effect is close.

I don't know of a way to do this in BBCode, but I would caution you that there are members that have exactly the reaction that you describe to such things.

To add to Oniya's suggestion, you could possibly use the abbreviation code to give the illusion of hidden text. It's not exactly the same, but it could be an idea if you want people to actually see the redacted portion of your character sheet.

I usually see that one called the 'acronym' tag, so it took me a hot minute to figure out that you hover over it to see the 'hidden' stuff.
