Paradise

Play Manga D20
(Pathfinder 1 System game)

A manga story of heroes and heroines.

Western Florida Panhandle, from Destin to Pensacola, Florida.  Is the location of Paradise, a manga soap opera of heroes and heroines.  Where adventures await for those that seek them.   Where those men and women become heroes and heroines.  Where sorcery meets technology,  where life is not define by carbon beings.

Okaloosa Island Adventurer's Society:  The adventure society is a club in that heroes and heroines come together to form parties to taking on the bad and go on quests.  The society meets at the bar called 'High Tide'.   All classes of heroes and heroines are part of the Adventurer's Society.

Pierce Airfield (satellite field 2 Eglin AFB):   Owned by the USAF, leased to the Nissan corporation technology concept technology division.  The following classes can be found here as part of airfield, Giant Robots, Gun Bunnies, Santai members, Tech pilots and Tech Genius. Androids are often connected with the airfield.

The Quarter:  Located in Pensacola,  it is a club ran by a Dhampir shape changer.  Dynamic Sorcerers, Magic Heroes, Ninja and Samurai often frequent the club.   Needless to say it is also a Dhampir hangout.

Niceville Hentai High: Upper class students, that are at least sixteen often exhibited abilities.   The Hentai High helps them achieve the path in their chosen classes.   Here you can find Students, Martial artists,  Santai Members and Pet Monsters.

Races

Classes

There are 15 new classes appropriate for a game set in an anime universe. While games will often pick a theme and stick to it using only some of these classes, they are all balanced with each other to offer the best compatibility during play. Classes introduced here include a combination of archetypes and class- specific options they can take advantage of as the game progresses.

Adventurer: The adventurer is more than just a generic hero hired to stop some goblins, and as a member of this class, characters gain specific abilities that help them directly when it comes to surviving in the world against monstrous foes.

Dynamic Sorcerer: Where fantasy sorcerers control magic through the power of their bloodlines, dynamic sorcerers bend the fabric of reality itself, with the potential to create any spell from the right components.

Giant Robot: Giant robots treat their race as a model, and their progress is tracked by the upgrades and modifications they gain over time, including the ability to change their size at will, or transform into a different robotic form entirely.

Gun Bunny: Firearms and explosives are the gun bunny’s bread and butter. A character who joins this class can expect to wield more powerful bombs and deadlier guns against just about any threat.

Hot Rod: Hot rods are professional racecar drivers who may or may not act the hero when the call for one comes. Whether or not they’re sponsored by an organization or acting as a scrappy loner, these characters can achieve surprising results with or without their vehicles in a number of situations.

Magical Hero: Many a good manga focuses on one or more normal kids who find and wield amazing power. With a strong mentor by their side, and often a magical artifact granting them special abilities and transformations, magical heroes face their enemies with a brave outlook and a need to protect their loved ones.

Martial Artist: When portrayed through the lens of anime, martial artists have the strength and talent to fight off dangerous creatures, from undead to robots, with little more than their fists. While not inherently supernatural or magical, they practice techniques that can appear so.

Mech Pilot: When giant beasts threaten cities and the world, mech pilots are called in to send them packing. The bond between a mech pilot and their giant mobile armor makes them the best choice for such battles. In situations where a gargantuan robot can’t help, they have a good number of skills to help them survive as well.

Ninja: Anime ninjas are no mere assassins or sneaky thieves. They are organized warriors who protect their people through subterfuge and supernatural talents learned in specialized schools. When the going gets tough, they believe in themselves and their allies, and through perseverance find answers to some of the most challenging questions.

Pet Monster Trainer: Magic in manga can appear in many different forms, and the pet monster trainer takes advantage of one of the more interesting choices. By capturing creatures and raising them, the pet monster trainer taps into their companions’ abilities to become the very best at what they do.

Samurai: Adventuring samurai walk the land in spectacular armor, inspiring the commonfolk and evoking fear in their enemies. Brave warriors, they hold true to the bushido code while working toward their own goals.

Sentai Member: The sentai member is natural addition to any team, not just other sentai members. Such are their gifts that they can adapt them to help whatever group they happen to be a part of at any time.

Shapechanger: The ability to change one’s form into another creature with little more than concentration is something that several characters in anime learn to do to some degree. Those who commit to this learn different and more powerful forms over time.

Student: Never underestimate the student in a manga. Years of education in their field not only makes these characters experts in that area, but also teaches them how to survive in a number of potentially life-threatening situations.

Tech Genius: Tech geniuses are students with a stronger focus on robotics and technology. They take that knowledge and turn it into interesting and fun alternatives.

The Nitty Gritty

The starting level will be 3rd or 4th level.  With the point base system.  Each applicant will receive 90 points. (20 for attributes, 70 addition for purchasing race and abilities of the class.)  Up to 10 more points can be acquired with character defects and restrictions with class given.

Minimum age; 16

This is set in the modern world.

Commitment to posting at least once a week as a minimum.

Will this be smut or story.   It is story, any smut will come within adventures designed and or mostly through player character interaction.

Finally, anyone who signs up will be expected to run adventures.  Thus, the scope of applicants is not going to be limited.  It will be a ongoing campaign filled with continuous adventures and stand-alone stories.

I am intrigued by this besm d20 adapted to patfhinder.  I will through my interest behind this game.

I like anime and system games, but I'm not sure of the concept... it's a sandbox with a variety of locations, and everyone who plays also runs?  I'm concerned that if I'm a character type that doesn't fit in with the other characters, like the giant robot or mech pilot, that I wouldn't get any action.

Well nothing says you could not be affiliated with more than one organization.

Marie has it right,  nothing says you cannot be part of multiple groups in the game.   For example for my own personal character I am working on a Pet Monster trainer that is going to Niceville (Hentai) High,  She also will be joining the Adventurer's Society.  So she will be part of two groups.  So if no other character is attending the high school,  there is the adventure society.

Also think it of it like this.  Heroes and Heroines will be drawn to likewise peers in a modern fantasy game.   Just as adventurers such as a cleric, barbarian etc.... are drawn together.

So has it been settled on 3rd or 4th level? Will that be decided after enough interest has been shown.

Actually it depends on the race and class you choose.  And now going over the point builds,  likely will be 3rd level,   with some starting at 2nd level.  As it all depends on your selection of race and class combination when you build your character.   As a player has up to 100 pts to build a character.  The only restriction is you have to have enough points to buy all of the abilities of the class for that level to move up to that level.  I

Okay thanks!
Oh how many points is skilled for humans. I can't seem to find it in the srd.
Also do we  use pathfinder point buy for the stats or is their a  cost for stats that I am not seeing on the srd.

TFcommando

I'm thinking of a Mech Pilot, a Scrapper, but I can't seem to find where the actual mecha stats are, or the rules for building them.  Has anyone seen them?  There was one stray reference to them being "barbarian constructs."

Humans, Catfolks  and Ratfolks cost 9 points,  the stat build is 20 points.   So every one gets 90 points +10 more possible.   Broken down 20 for stats and 70+10 for class and race.

The cost of each race is listed in the jpg of races in first post.

You buy the mecha stats.  I believe what they're applying.   You spend 8 pts out of initial allotment and 8 pts for each level.   At first level you get 10 pts to spend on the mecha.   It uses barbarian.   So max hp at 1st would be 12 + CON Bonus.  Buy STR, DEX and CON stats.   Rage is used like power surge.  Then every time you up the mecha level by spending 8 pts you gain +14 pts to spend on improving your mecha after initial buy.   Don't forget you can gain more points for the mecha with defects and restrictions.

Which is pretty cool instead  of adding armor class bonus it keeps it simple.  The HP are armor,  as those get taken away before even the characters own hp.

Marie Reynolds

Okay but  where do you find the stat point costs? like how much does an 8 cost,9 and a  10  etc.  I knew the total points of the human I was just looking to see how  much skilled cost  cause I was curious to the point cost break down of  all that comes from bieng human but not a major need to know thing was just being curious.

They're using the racial construction rules as the foundation of a point-based class and race build.

Humans have a Flexible Bonus Feat (4 points), Linguist (1 point), Skilled (4 points) and Human Heritage (0 points.  That's the +2 to one stat, unlike most races that get +2 to two stats and -2 to one other).

The authors worked out how much class features cost too and broke them down, which allows for substitutions, customization and archetype creation if one is feeling ambitious (and the GM generous).

I broke down and bought the Play Manga D20 rulebook, so I hope the game goes forward!

EDIT:  Annnnnd I completely misread what you wanted.  The cost for attributes is here

By my calculations, Mech Pilot 3 is 69 points, human is 9 points and attributes are 20, so just under 100, does that sound right?

Yes I am going to be magnanimous and generous in allowing people to custom build.  As long as it makes sense and the points are right its all good.

No problem and Thanks Elven!

Did you have any character ideas yet?  I’m thinking of a teenage mech pilot who built her mech from scratch, so she attends school, hangs out by the AF base to score salvage and might be in the adventurers club.  And might participate in a giant robot fight club with people who share her hobby.

Not yet I am still trying to make sense out of  costs for  certain class features, Cause the base attack stuff is confusingly written. I  am beginning to see why this pdf is only 9.99.
Figured out the base attack bonus thing. now trying to figure out the damn saving throw math.   The saving throws don't add up just using adventurer as example it is 2 points  per  +1  you hit 70 points by level 12 and  13  and that is just for the  save which they are saying it should be 72 points for all saving throws at  level 20 what  the  absolute utter hell is going on.

Elven Sex Goddess

No worries  with creating characters.  I realize that it will be slower in putting together character sheets.

Let's see, the starting level 1 saves of +2 for each would be 12 points +2 x 2 x 3.  There are 10 increases for each save at level 20, so +10 x 2 points per +1 is 20 points, x3 = 60 points, and there's the stated total of 72.

BESM is a toolkit without a lot of guidelines for balance or effectiveness.  Play Manga D20 improves on that by laying out the Pathfinder levels, but the build information is kind of spread out through the book.

Okay So the 72 is likely just a typo.

Looks like it, a bad editing job.   So don't worry about trying to fit it to declared end total of 72 when its most likely 60 at lvl 20

Marie Reynolds

Yeah normally I would not be double checking this that  hard but when the wording of the in-depth explanations create confusion I wanted to be sure.  Instead of getting through a character and realizing I am under or over spent.

TFcommando

There’s a Facebook group the author runs under Play Manga D20 and he seems quick to answer questions. The point buy system encourages adding bits of customization, like the Slime character who trades a class armor proficiency (which they can’t use) for firearms training and a debt flaw.  This is a bit of a shift from how strict Pathfinder is, with only archetypes available to modify class features.  It’s an interesting if challenging approach,
