As the middle child her family overlooked her. As soon as she was old enough, she enlisted and left her family for greener pasters. It was there that she found her place. She mostly kept to herself and did her job with cold efficiency with a devil may care attitude with how it would hurt other people who where not in power.

I didn't have a complex back story for this one. Just someone who is doing a job and does not care if it hurts people who are not in power. So long as she gets paid, who cares what happens to other people.

Simpler is better sometimes, so I like it. If you wouldn't mind filling out the character template, I'd appreciate it.

Ok for the mental institute.

But I don't understand, there is a contradiction between :
QuoteSecond, you mention conducting investigations involving the supernatural and the arcane. That's a no. Magic is incredibly well regulated and if you have legit issues with magic, there are specific groups within the Empire that deal with it.

QuoteThere's a special group called the Hunters made up of both Rangers and Rogues who specifically hunt rogue spellcasters and kill them. They have a special Marque of Reprieve allowing them to do almost anything short of kill random citizens to find spellcasters. Since most spellcasters start to show powers when they're teens and often are pretty bad at it, they get found out pretty quick and hauled off. It's the ones who escape for years at a time and are a legit threat that the Hunters get called in, and most are found because they start going around killing random groups because of things like being found out as spellcasters and whatnot. It's important to remember that the Hunters don't exist for the sake of being evil, it's because this society suffered centuries of abuse and enslavement at the hands of powerful spellcasters and they refuse to be subjugated again.

GloomCookie

No, the Hunters track and hunt down spellcasters. They're not equipped to deal with anything like ghosts and the supernatural, that's another group entirely. Magic in general is rare, and part of the reason for it being so rare is fear of spellcasters and deliberate efforts to hunt them. When there are reports of anything supernatural, the Hunters usually arrive first, check for spellcasters, and then if necessary call in other specialists to deal with it. They don't investigate any further into arcane bullshit, because they're trying to kill the spellcasters.

So they kill the spellcasters without interrogate them to find other spellcasters ?

Are there archives maintened by Executioners  about existing monsters to hunt them ?

No. I ask questions about the world how it works.

If my questions  annoy you, I stop ask questions.

GloomCookie

The Hunters hunt spellcasters. Most spellcasters aren't much of a danger and so aren't worth interrogating because it's unlikely they've learned much, but those that are dangerous are simply killed because to do anything less is stupid and dangerous. Imagine a mage knowing he's going to die anyway just casting a giant fireball in the room to kill himself and everyone else?

And the Executioners keep some archives, naturally, but they're not going to make that public to anyone but Executioners. Those archives contain more than just monster bestiaries, they contain deeply held secrets of the Empire and so if you're granted permission to view them, it's usually with a librarian keeping a very close eye on you the entire time.

In 5e only sorcerers are really born with magic. The other classes get their magic from training or from basically other sources like gods, demons etc.

I imagine that of the 3 outlawed magic users, the ones most likely to be killed as younglings are sorcerers and warlocks.

Wizards need to study for thier magic, so unless they are being raised by a magic user these are most likely to be adults practicing magic in secret because they know its outlawed in the Empire.

Warlocks make pacts with greater entities, however the acquisition of magic can be unknowing at times.especially with the capricious fae, who are liable to give magic to sow mischief or as a gift to a friend, unaware of the politics involved.

And sorcerers are, well they are born with magic and as such, they can manifest it the earliest and are more likely to have it go out of control.

At least that's my attempt to reconcile class lore and world lore.

Name: Jhanos Drakan
Age: 22
Gender: Male
Theme: Battle for the Throne by Fox Sailor

Brief Biography & Introduction:

Jhanos Drakan was born one to villages on the borders of the Empire in the desert build around an oasis, he had a father, mother, and older sister. Who all were working hard in local farming fields along with the community which was hidden in between dunes in a deep canyon. The village had prospered both thanks to this secrecy and luck, but when you depend too much on luck it can get sudden turn; as one wandering monster scouts who had run from conflict literally stumbled on the village by accident and before villagers could kill the creature it fled.

Villagers knew they had to leave, so they prepared to leave but again luck was not their side; as scout quickly found its wandering Warband and the monster came enmass to the village to burn and pillage it. Villagers decided to take a last stand, send one their own to ride fast as they can to the nearest Empire garrison for help (they had only one horse in the entire community). Messenger, was the youngest of the boys at the time capable to ride; Jhanos. He was chosen by pure lottery, as there were others.

Jhanos rode day and night non-stop, he was scorched by the sun during the day and chilled during the night. He was exhausted as he arrived at the garrison and told what was happening, troops were marshalled and send calvary to the village. By the time they arrived, the village had been already burned, pillaged and no survivors found. Jhanos then had no one, no relatives, no family left. The commander offered young Jhanos in place in queen's army, get a roof and food in return for his services. Jhanos agreed.

Jhanos was embittered by his failure to save his village, denouncing all gods and goddesses whom he viewed deserved no devotion from him cause they allowed the tragedy to happen. But he excelled and endured as a recruit as he was used to life of hard work and his sorrow was burned out from him and leave behind a cold iron steely heart and resolve harnessed by his bitterness. His commander forged him into a weapon, Jhanos was willing to bend and be reforged anew. Using his bitterness to unbury and spark eternal burning hatred to monsters and chaos. He started idolize a sense of order, discipline and overall idolizes the queen whom he viewed as a nearly divine entity for doing her best bring order to these lands. Where others swear their pledge and oath to queen for fear of her, he does so with a true devotion to her and her ideals.

Jhanos became at heart a conqueror, but not for the sake of personal conquests but for his sovereign and her goals. His boldness, his courage, and the steely might of his skills became renown in the ranks, he radiated a powerful presence that both inspires comrades but also inspires fear in enemies. At times even recklessly courageous, but he grew in skill, power and ranks in the military steadily. Starting manifest even divine power fueled entirely by his devotion to queen, the merciless iron gauntleted order and bring it at any cost to the world itself! Then queen herself, acknowledged him when he alone caused a large warband of enemies rout and run off him while defending a village in holding a narrow pass with his unit of soldiers under his command. He was decommissioned off the military command chain but placed instead now as a queen's Imperial Executioner. Which he accepted with honor and grace.

Thoughts on his flaw, his forbidden darkest desire
There had been those who questioned this decision, as many times questioned for a sudden rise in ranks of a young man in military ranks and some behind Jhanos back talk queen picked him cause he was 'prettiest' soldier around and young. Jhanos had both verbally and violently put an end to such discussions, at least in his hearing distance for disrespecting the queen. But the words echo somewhat in him, as he himself admits, his own thoughts at times about queen herself have not always remained reverent. At times been pervasive, dirty, degrading the idolized image he holds for her. He seeks strength and power of idolizing queen Sargea as a monarch, but same time, his heart thirsts to conquer and claim her. His internal struggle in two sides of his heart he buries deep, never display them anyway outward his struggle.

This duality could come from the fact he forsakes all divinity and gods, but later, he turned the queen into a near similar position, and now his former bitterness to gods/goddesses resurfaces with the thought of revenge or seeking retribution for their cruelty. The queen, becoming also a proxy, a symbol, for getting even with the gods inside his heart.

Or it can be supreme most arrogant hubris dwelling in his heart; queen, his most sacred of symbols, he covets it out of jealousy for anyone or anything seeking to claim her and once established she is his and his alone, his most precious of treasures, he can focus more claim all the world under iron-clad tyranny to bring order and bear title of a tyrant, despot, butcher, for sake of peace.

Kathyan

Name: Johanna Lonewine; Ms. Theresa 'Tessa' Ambersong
Age: 32
Gender: Female

Brief Biography & Introduction:
Johanna is the daughter of a couple that runs an inn at the city, the Lonewine, whose establishment is also named that that way, The Lone Wine Inn. It is not located in a shady part of the city but with the owner being a mutant human not many respected people go in there, as such it was often that Johanna, as a barmaid, was object of teasing and catcalls and even groping. There was little she or her father could and so she grew up submissive and being used to be treated that way. It was not until she saw in the army a chance to raise above the lower class citizen she and her family was. Johanna's time at the army was awful, it was not tipsy patrons groping her now but seasoned soldiers and officers sexually abusing her now. They trained her how to be a proper bitch which included how to properly address other and please them with her body but they would also teach her to be a soldier too. Eventually her mind broke in half and she developed a second personality, a domineering warrior who wouldn't let herself be abused. Eager to be called Mistress instead of slave now she unconsciously picked the name of Theresa, Ms. Theresa. Wearing a mask that concealed that she was a mutant Theresa trained harder and was able to catch up with other soldiers and even to surpass them, and with that she would end up getting the attention of Queen Saega to become her executioner. Only the older soldiers know Johanna and Theresa are the same woman but keep the secret to themselves in order to take advantage of her.

True Imperial is mentioned but unsure how well known it is. I did pick it assuming it is a language you can choose.

GloomCookie

True Imperial is the language of Common, though Undercommon exists as the numerous dialects throughout the Empire.

I will be creating official IC start threads this weekend, I just want to make sure I get everything lined up properly first and foremost.

Beyond Common are a few others that we'll get into, but they are rare. I will get more in depth once the actual game begins.

Thank you for your patience.

I finally got mythweavers running(had an issue with logging in) so I'll be starting my app finally tomorrow. I haven't put together a DnD sheet in quite a long time though, so if someone wouldn't mind helping an addle brained guy out when I start, that would be much appreciated.

Name: Kaless Drakeseye
Age: 23
Gender: Male

Brief Biography & Introduction: Kaless is a patriot through and through, his parents once soldiers for the kingdom, they raised him with a sense of pride in his nation and a desire to serve. Trained from an early age he showed an aptitude for the bow and a mind sharp enough to start grasping the arcane knowledge to weave a little power into his arrows.

He was 18 when he joined the standing army, serving for a few years to hone his craft and eventually unlock the tradition his mother taught him. Through service he gained nerves of steel, and a healthy respect for his superiors, learning that a little kindness can go along way...even if he was a bit awkward. It was his second year in service that he was injured, his bow string snapped and just a broken short sword in his hand as the enemy closed in around him. He was ready to go down fighting when an Imperial Executioner that was attached to his cohort came rushing in, giving him a chance to restring his bow and provide support until the enemies were dead. That incident left a lasting impression on him, and once he was healed he worked his ass off to try and become an Executioner.. hoping to one day meet the one that saved his life once and have a true opportunity to thank him.
