TB's Newbie Struggle Center

Before today I was just pming an Oracle for help, to keep from exhausting those people/ to keep learning I figured I might as well just start a help thread. I have already learned so much. If you are new and you are reading this, BBC is NOT as hard as it seems. To try and help my fellow newbies I'll also start a list of all the things that I have found the most helpful!

This will be on going as I have many questions and hopefully relatable advice. Help?

Currently I cant figure out:

  • All questions currently answered, won't be long till I have more!

True's list of Unspoken BBC magic:

  • The PREVIEW BUTTON- now you would think this is obvious or that it should be. I didn't try it out till I was a few days in, its amazing! It will show you how your post will look BEFORE you post it! (go figure) Super helpful for testing to make sure everything is closed.
  • BEST thing I have learned hands down is that you can just highlight text and hit one of the buttons above to edit. Before that I was hitting the button, then typing in my text, or copy and pasting. I have found it saves me sooo much time to put all my text in THEN highlight and boop, done.
  • You can rename the the Spoiler/hide box with = sign as well as give quotes authors! (See great advice below or Click here)
  • Sometimes colors won't work if they are capitalized, Like Blue instead of blue. (on another site)

Hey, TB! Great idea for a thread.

1. In the tag, you put an = after spoiler and fill in the name or title you'd like to show on the button. It'll only say what you put after the = and will not say "spoiler" anymore.

Name you want shown on the spoiler button
stuff inside spoiler

[spoiler=Name you want shown on the spoiler button]stuff inside spoiler[/spoiler]

2. I think you can do the same with the quote tag. Or alternatively, put author= inside the quote tag, and whatever you'd like to show up above the quote will be there.

Quote from: author of quotequoted stuff

[quote author=author of quote]quoted stuff[/quote]

I hope that helps!

You could sign up for imgbb.com and store them that way. It's easy and free to use.

Also, love the X-Men gifs. <3

Did you right click then hit view image? From there, you should be able to see something that says Save As and save it to your computer.

You may have already discovered this, but this contains a lot of BBCode goodness!

Yes her magic shop is exquisite!!!! It's helped be a lot! But sometimes, if I'm being honest, if find it a bit over stimulating, in a way that confuses my smooth brain and it makes it kind of hard to learn. I think a lot of people don't get into the coding here because it seems overwhelming. I wanted to make a thread with tips by dummies for dummies, of the dummies. :D
However I will keep in mind the spellbook more often as I am getting better!!!

My smooth brain is pleased.

It can be overwhelming!

I learned a lot by using the Quote link at the top right corner of posts.
I'd see something that someone had done, hit the Quote link to see the underlying code for their post to see how they did what had caught my eye and try to figure out how to replicate it in my own stuff.

I'd never thought about that!! does it show the code they put in when you quote? what a helpful tip!!!!
