Question for the GM: How bad would it be for me to have Toxic Adept power? Would this be people frowning on it  - or people trying to burn me at the stake for having it? From what I have read it seems unclear but I may have just missed that part.

Most mages pick nice, happy magical traditions to embrace, but they're also boring. Most of the darker ones such as Black, Blood, Toxic, etc. tend to be targeted because people hear it, freak the fuck out, and run screaming. The mages from the nicer traditions don't exactly line up to dispel rumors about it, so most of the time people will attack once they learn about your particular flavor of magic.

Obviously you can conceal what magic you're using on various licenses and such, but ultimately once another magician sees you drawing upon the darkness they'll peg you pretty quick, and then you'll draw the attention of everyone armed and dangerous in the area.

There's also a 1 million nuyen bounty on your head to be captured alive and delivered to the Draco Foundation for....research. Well, technically that specifies toxic shamans, but 99% of bounty hunters will stick n shock first and ask questions later.

I went digging and found my old concept for Geek, who is (shockingly) a mage. Tempted to rework him and submit him to this game. Thing is, he's really intended to be run with a partner.

Geek specialises in shutting down magic. That's basically his whole schtick. Counterspelling, breaking/bypassing barriers, and messing with the background count in an area so magic just stops working. None of that fancy fireworks shit.

A mage taking out magic is good and all, but it also leaves said mage basically useless. Enter the partner. A fully cybernetic street samurai who can take full advantage of that supression. Who needs magic when you have bionics?

Isn't there a specific tradition for that, that gives up regular spellcasting to become an insanely boosted counterspeller?

Probably. Been a long ass time since I even looked at the rules. I just remember mana static was a big part of the concept because it's one of the few things that fucks with magical adepts as well.(and they're broken as shit if I remember right, so neutering them is well deserved imo) Pretty sure his counterspelling was pretty mad too though.

He was also on the pudgy side, moderately infuriating, and enjoyed the shit out of tri-d.

Looks like it's the Path of the Pariah, in the Forbidden Arcana splatbook. You can only Counterspell, Banish, or Disenchant, but you get a +2 to all of those, and Initiating adds more dice bonuses.

I am accepting all applications until Saturday 16 January when I'll be reviewing what I've received. I will then make a determination on who I want to play. The reason I don't do first come first serve is because not everyone has time to get in on these threads and I want people to have a chance, plus this lets me balance the team a bit better and get characters I think will be more diverse.

Please have at least a preliminary sheet to me by that date. It's ok if you don't have it finished, I just want to start reviewing and making my selections. So far I've only received one sheet so there's still plenty of opportunity to get involved.
