Time was, I was never asked for my password but simply logged in.
Then my password was needed .... fair enough.
But now: often as not I have to enter my password a second time.
Why?
Will it progress to need to type in my password more and more often?

Check your privacy settings for the site and make sure you are allowing long-term cookies from us.
