The year is PU (Post-Unification) 0757.

Following years of violent conflict, the majority of Earth has split in two major factions: the Atlantic Coalition (AC), a loose alliance of capitalist democracies, and the Pact of Smolensk (PS), an authoritarian league of socialist republics.

Both sides had giant space colonies orbiting around the Earth and small colonies in Mars which currently support most the Earth needs. Although formally all the colonies are subject to the AC or the PS, there is a growing unrest among them..

Finally, the most important factor that shaped life on Earth is the fourth glaciation which caused the temperature alteration around the world and large portions of frozen wasteland advancing from the poles to the Equator straining the few resources available for both world factions and accelerating their impending confrontation.

Also you should consider using the Lancer TTRPG system. It's a very simple TTRPG based around mechs that would be very easy to re-flavor, and the core book is free!
