QuoteEven with the fan blasting away and the drawn blinds blocking out the mid-afternoon sun
Susy
was still sweltering in her apartment. Zinama had a truly intolerable climate; Susy felt like she'd spent the last few months doing nothing but dodging the sun. And dodgy food... and dodgy people... if she was being honest with herself, Susy had spent most of her time trying to get away from every element of Zinama's climate and culture. It was a wretched nation, with a wretched population of liars, cheats, and scammers.

But it would all be worth it. For the past six months, Susy had worked as a reporter for The Jagos Tribune, a small news organisation reporting on local affairs in the nation's capital city Jagos. It was a job no sane person would do if given the choice. Jagos was a dysfunctional shit heap, and the news organisation was just as bad. But it was a good way to make important local contacts. Susy's target was the Lihra mining complex, situated close to the town of Lihra, itself only a few miles away from Jagos.

Zinama was a country rich in minerals; there were huge bauxite deposits in the northwest and equally plentiful platinum and palladium deposits in the south and southeast. But the Lihra coal mines were the most important, supplying the nation with the raw material it needed to fuel its power stations. The complex was, if rumours were to be believed, one of the biggest hubs of human trafficking on the continent.

Each new contact Susy gained was able to fill in more information. Current practices. Past history. Death counts. Export figures. Numbers of people. Key people involved. If her sources were correct, the President of Zinama himself was profiteering off the back of slavery.

Not that Susy cared for the plight of hundreds, if not thousands of slaves. Most had, according to her sources, been drawn from the neighbouring nations of South Sudan and Uganda. It wasn't as if these wretches were important. No, exposing such a large operation was her chance at fortune and fame. Interviews. Awards. A page in the history books, even!

She thumbed through her notes and typed up another paragraph on her laptop. Her latest source had provided her with a list of six names, mercenaries who had fought in the conflict that had eventually given birth to the nation of Zinama. These men had stayed on, apparently, and been rewarded with positions of power. Two, at least, were connected to the mining operations in Lihra.

It was still too fucking hot. Susy closed her laptop and headed into the bathroom, stripping off and stepping into the shower.

Hello! I am looking for a partner to write a story with me. My character is Susy, a reporter seeking to earn herself fame and fortune by uncovering a large human trafficking organisation. Unfortunately for her, she gets found out and brought in, resulting in her torture and interrogation, her placement as a comfort woman, then in some of the slave labour mines, before the broken woman is forced to bear child for one of her abusers. In short, I'm looking for a partner happy to write a very dark story with. If you're interested, drop me a PM and let's discuss!
