Plot: Donato knows he’s dominant. The inarguable proof of it is right there on his driver’s license indicating his role registration —  D.

The letter is printed in bold red ink. The D of his role is as clear as the D’s in both his names. Donato D’Angelo. Dominant. Former marine of the USMC and now a detective for the NYPD. Detective. That’s another D for him to hide behind. He can’t admit it, not even to himself, but Donato is hiding. Because Donato is dominant...but that’s not all he is. When he took his oath and joined the police force, he promised To Protect the community the same as all dominant officers do. He meant it. He really did. But no one knew that he also secretly repeated the submissive officer’s oath To Serve. He meant that too.

To serve and to protect. Donato hides in plain sight and fulfills both oaths. He uses the dangerous nature of the job to punish himself and finds comfort in the hierarchical nature of the force. It isn’t safe, but it keeps him steady. His work allows him to pass unquestioned as a dominant. Whatever submissive desires he has are buried down deep in the dark inside of him. And then Donato meets someone. A man that’s like him save for one key difference: he isn’t hiding. His driver’s license has a little S next to his role registration, but he insists it isn’t S for Submissive — it’s an S for Switch.

Donato is dominant and self-assured of that...until he becomes involved with a man that shows him it's okay to be more. Even if the world at large refuses to accept your existence and society condemns you for it.

TLDR: In a world where D/s relationships are the norm, a painfully repressed police detective finds his identity as a Dominant shaken when he meets a man who proudly identifies as a Switch.

Additional Info: Seeking a writing partner to play the Outed Switch and worldbuild with me. I’ve purposefully kept the plot threadbare so we can brainstorm something together. There's a lot here I'm willing to tweak and I'd love to incorporate my partner's own ideas.

The Outed Switch, of course, needs to be a switch. The intended pairing here is versatile switch/versatile switch. I’ll also pretty please request that he be somewhere in the 40 — 60 age range. Donato himself is nearing forty and I just can't see him being attracted to a younger partner (it'd bring out his protectiveness in a platonic rather than sexy way). If the Outed Switch is a civilian, he should have a profession that puts him on equal footing with Donato. An attorney, medical examiner, etc.

Not looking for a hyper-sexualized world for this story. You’re not going to find an orgy on the subway or get a frontrow seat to a flogging session in the breakroom at work. It’s simply a setting where Dominant/submissive roles and BDSM practices are considered the societal norm for romantic relationships. Sexuality is classified by that dynamic - you’re either a dom or a sub. While switches exist, they aren’t legally recognized. They’re considered “confused” at best and regarded as sexual deviants at worst.
