The Quick n' Dirty

  • A partner's sex, gender identity, or planet of origin do not matter to me, although I do prefer to write with fellow Earthlings.
  • Cis-M/cis-M, unless I know you well, or our story involves multiple characters, in which case I might be open to other pairings that involve a cis-male. Some of my characters below are open to relationships that aren't strictly monogamous.
  • I ain't no size queen. I primarily care that the post advances the scene in some way and provides sufficient detail. I will mirror a partner's post style. You can find samples of my writing by visiting my O/Os, where I have a list of stories I have been involved in, or stalk me. Whichever!
  • My post frequency is at best twice a week and at worst once within three weeks, depending on a variety of factors. Once every 1-1.5 weeks is closer to the average. A partner can take as long as they need. Past a certain point, though, it is helpful if a partner communicates their continued interest.
  • I'm primarily looking for plot and relationship development, whatever the latter may mean for the characters in question. I'm fine with smutty plots or "just cuz" sex scenes as long as they make sense.
  • Threads for roleplaying. PMs or Discord for plot discussion and chit-chat.
  • I'm open to playing top, bottom, versatile, or the kinky equivalents. The character I play will determine what I would like to see.
  • A partner ought to be willing to assist with the plot.
  • That's the gist. More details in my O/Os. Check 'em out to ensure I suit your fancy.

I have a handful of characters below that would love to be in a story or two. Each one has pairing ideas, and most also have at least one scenario suggestion that awaits a partner's creative spin. I'm definitely open to hearing other possibilities for them. Most do lean toward slice of life, partly because it's my wheelhouse, but all ideas are worth considering and I wouldn't mind doing something new. Let's get a dialogue going!

Name: Hunter Jackson
Age: 21-26
Height: 5'10"
Sexuality: Gay and open about it; ranges from light to rough with an openness for light bondage and possibly other kinks; enjoys taking control in the bedroom, sometimes from the top, sometimes from the bottom, but, at least when he doesn't feel vulnerable, he also likes to submit to the right personality; only into masculine men with backbones; he is fine with an open, monogamous relationship
Personality: Hunter is pure spirit, a relentless fire that only burns brighter when the pressure amplifies. It fuels his perseverance just as much as his temperament and headstrong inclinations. Just as how he doesn't pull punches, he doesn't mince words. He's fiercely loyal. It's almost as much of a compulsion as it is a trait, one that can have him pledging his allegiance to the wrong individual.
Likes:

● Pushing himself   ● Nightclubs
● A good fight   ● Adrenaline rushes
● A good meal   ● Strong personalities
● Hooking up
Dislikes:

● Drug use, getting drunk (personal)   ● Pushovers
● Prejudice
● Rain
Notes: It's fine if a partner would like to use a real-life face claim.
Pairings/Word Bank: Urban fantasy, supernatural, dystopia, military, superheroes, training academy, rivalry, orc (Elder Scrolls-esque) x human, powered human x normal human, superior x subordinate, vigilantes, gangs, crime, hunter x werewolf, hunter x hunter, human x werewolf, hero x sidekick, agents, rookie cop x experienced cop, civilian x cop, petty criminal x cop, unlikely alliance

In the Nick of Time

Your character was in trouble, injured, backed into a wall. His attacker(s) prepared for the fatal blow, but in that last moment, a good Samaritan stepped in and saved his life.

Your character could be a masked vigilante (or villain!), a werewolf, or a normal human who made the wrong enemies. Your character's motivations matter more than his morality, but, hey, our characters don't have to get along initially.

Outside the Walls

In the year 2030, a virus swept across Earth, mutating humans and creatures alike. A group of survivors secured a city and erected walls to protect them from the mutations. One hundred years have passed since then, and overpopulation is threatening to deplete the group's resources. Our characters are part of the effort to establish a new settlement.

I'm open to expanding the playable cast.

The End is Nigh

They came from the skies.

They were a threat much more powerful than humanity and reduced the global numbers by half in a single day. No one is safe.

Our characters could be civilians who have banded together to survive the chaos, they could be new recruits who enlisted to assist in the war effort, or Hunter could be a new recruit assigned to your captain's squad. This could be turned into a Mass Effect story.

Commander

Ever wanted to be the captain of your own space-faring ship? Well, now you can be! Mass Effect is the only sci-fi fandom I have under my belt, but I'm open to virtually any story involving a human captain and Hunter as someone who is part of his crew. I would also be fine with doubling or tripling on characters if we want to expand the playable cast.

Mass Effect: Not Dead Yet

Minor spoiler alert! At the end of Mass Effect 3, it's possible for the player to get a cut scene that suggests Shepard is alive. Hunter is among those to discover the commander among the rubble. What is the next chapter of Shepard's life? I'd be open to us modifying the trilogy's ending. I might be limited in my ability to effectively write canon characters, but I can give it a shot as the story calls for it.

A New Planet/Galaxy

Basically a spin-off of Mass Effect: Andromeda. Space travel has advanced enough that humanity has launched an expedition to explore, and inhabit, a new planet or galaxy. Our characters have enlisted to be a part of the expedition's military branch, prepared for whatever may come, or so they think. Or, Hunter could be a soldier who was assigned to protect your character, the spearhead of the initiative. I'm open to expanding the cast to include multiple characters.

Name: Michael Bartley
Age: 45-50
Height: 6'1"
Sexuality: Gay and most likely closeted; vanilla and versatile; with few exceptions, his conservative leanings make him most interested in clean-cut men who fit traditional molds; monogamous
Personality: While not the most outgoing man, Michael believes strongly in community. Whether it's a festival or cleaning up the park, you can expect him to be present, and (trustworthy, nice-looking) neighbors can rely on him to lend a hand, or a tool, when in need. It suits his perfectionism nicely. He is all about image.
Full traits

  • Ambivert
  • Self-conscious
  • Perfectionist
  • Confident
  • Objective
  • Responsible
  • Competitive
  • Materialistic
  • Somewhat judgmental

Likes:

● Baseball, bowling, golf   ● Hiking, camping (cabin/RV)   ● Nice things
● Watching football   ● Community events   ● Craft beer and scotch
● Dogs   ● Staying active
● Cookouts, picnics   ● Coffee
Dislikes:

● Phone use while talking   ● Rap, metal
● Lack of integrity   ● Lots of tattoos
● Drugs   ● Piercings
Pairings/Word Bank: Old friends, neighbor rivalry, closeted husband x closeted husband, business owner x employee, dad x son's best friend

Young Love, Reignited

They were friends. Almost more, but Michael wasn't ready for that, in secret or otherwise. They parted ways. It's been years, and circumstance has brought them back into each other's lives. It's like they're young again.

They could have been childhood friends, summer camp buddies for one year, or college friends, possibly dormmates. I'd be open to incorporating flashbacks to when they were younger. Michael could be married or recently divorced.

To Feel Whole Again

Michael's going through a bad divorce. Your character is getting over their lover's death. They find in each other something they both need.

Bad Influence

Michael's son has a new friend, and almost immediately upon having met him, Michael knew the young man wasn't going to be a good influence. After his son received a DUI, Michael decided to have a talk with this friend, only it doesn't go as expected, and now that the kiss has happened, Michael can't get the young man out of his head.

18-22 would be a great age for the bad influence, maybe a little older. I especially would love for the bad influence to be a top or versatile, but at the least, they need to be the one to lead the relationship/stir the pot in the beginning.

A Father A Boy Could Ever Ask For

Your character has been best friends with Michael's son since they were boys, and Michael has been like a father to him, but affections grow deeper than familial, and a kiss changes their lives forever.

Your character can be 18-26. I'm thinking it would have the most impact if Michael was married, but he could be divorced if a partner has something else in mind that can make things entertaining.

Name: Jeffrey "Jeff" Garrick
Age: 45-50
Height: 5'11"
Sexuality: He's an "IDGAF-sexual", though he has been preferring men lately; open about liking all sexes; leans dominant but isn't opposed to submitting/bottoming; enjoys BDSM elements, and is open to a master/slave dynamic; to willing players, he's also into watersports and foot worship; open to polyamory
Personality: In a nutshell: selfish. Between that and his skewed moral compass, he hasn't made the best choices in life, and he'd be among the first to admit to it. You get what you see with this man.
Full traits

  • Assertive
  • Courageous
  • Selfish
  • Cynical
  • Uncomplaining
Jeff is a new character, so I'm still figuring out his personality. That, and it's likely to be influenced by how twisted, or how redeemable, he needs to be the for the plot.

Likes:

● Bowling   ● Guns   ● Bars
● Keeping fit   ● Red meat
● Alcohol, esp. whiskey   ● Hunting
● Cigarettes, cigars   ● Motorcycles
Dislikes:

● Self-righteousness   ● Elders (ageist)
● Most of today's music   ● Community service
● Slow drivers   ● Politics
Pairings/Word Bank: Slice of life, sci-fi, dystopian, Alcoholics Anonymous, crime, inmates, corruption, redemption, dad x son/son's best friend or boyfriend, dad x daughter's boyfriend, uncle x nephew, husband x mister/manstress, master x slave, pimp x prostitute, murderer x victim's loved one, priest x church member, coach x high school athlete, man x homeless youth, cop x criminal, bounty hunter x target, mercenaries

At Long Last

Version 1
When his then-girlfriend announced her pregnancy, Jeff knew one thing: he didn't want to be a dad. He split, and he didn't look back, so imagine his surprise when, one day, he's approached by a young man claiming to be his son.

Version 2
When his then-girlfriend announced her pregnancy, Jeff felt one thing: dread. He tried, honestly he did, to do the right thing and raise the child, but one day, when his son was still a runt, he decided he had enough, and he disappeared. Years later, imagine his surprise when he recognizes a face on TV. He tries to connect with his son. Only time will tell if it's with the best intentions.

The story might revolve more around your character than the relationship between father and son, in which case I would be happy to help manage the other important people in your character's life to have other interactions. The story could be incestuous, or not. Your character should be at least 18, no older than 34.

Straighten You Out

Your character has been acting out of control, so much so that his parents are afraid he'll do something that he will later regret. Uncle Jeff has been down that road, and after a discussion, it's arranged that the nephew will live with him for a while, to see if he can't set him straight.

I'm looking more for a story with character/relationship development. This can be a sex-free story. 16-19 would probably be the best age for your character, maybe no older than 21.

In the Palm of My Hand

Your character has finally caved. He has played it straight all this time, or maybe curiosity won out. Either way, he promised himself it would happen only this one time as he downloaded Grindr. After all, he's married! Jeff popped up almost immediately, and they arranged to have some fun. Little did your character know, Jeff recorded it, and if your character doesn't want his life ruined, he better do as Jeff asks.

Pending a partner having a different idea, I don't really see this being more than a short-term, smut-heavy story, probably ending when your character's secret comes to light, one way or another. It could be that, prior to the hookup, our characters knew of each other well enough that Jeff has the details he needs to effectively blackmail your character. I think it would work best if your character is 28-45. The more masculine the face claim, the better.

Sins of the Father

When the detective had him put away, Jeff vowed he would make them pay upon his release. So many years later, the detective might have forgotten, but Jeff didn't. He tracked them down, and, lo and behold, they have a son. The idea hits him, and when all the pieces are in place, when the son is alone, Jeff takes him away, wanting him to experience the loss of his years in the same way Jeff did.

Looking for a partner who can help turn this into an engaging story, so that the plot is more than rape and whatever else suits Jeff's whims. Your character can be straight or into men. For this story, pretty much my only limits are those listed in my offs.

Name: Tristan Scott
Age: 25-28
Height: 5'7"
Sexuality: Gay; during sex, he's most keen on getting off, so, except maybe as a submissive, he's not really interested in anything that delays dick or anal stimulation; he's fine taking control or letting someone else run the show; gets a certain joy out of topping bigger men; unlikely to explore polyamory
Personality: If it were up to Tristan, he wouldn't utter a word unless it was necessary. Sometimes he does exactly that. Other times he's more amenable to conversation, especially when he's trying to hook up at a bar. He's blunt, sometimes crass for effect.
Full traits

  • Self-reliant
  • Introverted; quiet
  • A tough, and sometimes cold, exterior over a soft interior; guarded
  • Blunt, sometimes crass for effect
  • Observant
  • Perceptive and understanding, but whether he acknowledges this facet of himself is a different story
  • Patient
  • Proud
  • Pessimistic; cynical
  • Firm

Likes:

● Wide open spaces   ● Reading   ● Chatty types, because then he can pretend to listen and say little
● Whiskey   ● Whittling
● An acoustic guitar   ● Fishing & hunting
● Bars   ● People who tolerate silence
Dislikes:

● Idealists   ● Nightclubs   ● Forced small talk
● Overly sensitive types   ● Lot of stimuli
● Loud people   ● Nosiness
Bio:
If you want to know
Tristan was born as the youngest of three sons in Dallas to a small-time boxer and a waitress mom. Growing up, he was a mama's boy who tried to keep up with the males in his house, and when his mom disappeared one day while he was eight, well, the males were pretty much all he had left in his everyday life.

His mom did try to return five years later, when Tristan was thirteen, claiming she had gotten clean. By then his dad had found another woman to warm his bed. Tristan spent time with her against his dad's warnings. It lasted for a few months before his mom fell off the wagon again. After finding out about it, Tristan withdrew from her completely. The last time any of the family heard about her, it was after she passed away from a drug overdose about a year later.

That next summer, he went to his grandparent's/uncle's ranch, feeling as though it was exactly what he needed. Every summer after that, it became a regular occurrence until, after graduating high school, he left his family to find work elsewhere. It was a slap in the face to all of them, but he had his reasons.

Over the next eight years, he bounced around to different places, different states, usually with only a bag of belongings and not much cash to his name. Part of it was for some semblance of adventure. In Oklahoma, when he was twenty, he had a secret fling with one of the other hands. When the owner's daughter spotted them, he hightailed it out of there. From then on, he kept his trysts in the cities or through Grindr.

Pairings/Word Bank: Slice of life, apocalyptic, ranch hands, ranch hand x ranch owner, one-night stands

Pink Motel

I wanna do something based off this song, however loosely:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KsZ0S0vacFI

Maybe our characters have regular rendezvous in a motel, and we see their relationship develop with each tryst.

Or, maybe they're strangers who hook up, right before they're thrust into the apocalypse.

Name: Jordan Bell
Age: 18-21
Height: 6'0" - 6'5", depending on partner preference and whether he's a college basketball player
Sexuality: Bisexual; mostly vanilla and versatile; open to trying polyamory
Personality: Abandoned by his mom on his first day of third grade, Jordan desires relationships just as much as he fears them; prone to acting with his heart, he's protective of and affectionate toward the people he cares about, but those very relationships are also the ones that give him anxiety. He's not nearly as smooth as he likes to believe he is, and he's a bit impish.
Full traits

  • Passionate
  • Protective of, vigilant for, and affectionate toward the people he cares about
  • Self-reliant
  • Somewhat frugal, except when it comes to clothes
  • Hardworking toward the things he cares about, and aimless for anything beyond short-term goals
  • Disorganized, but it works for him
  • Sometimes cheeky and sarcastic, depending on his mood and how close he is to someone
  • Cynical
  • Attention-seeking
  • Hard-headed
  • Impish
  • Anxious, particularly when it comes to other people, but sometimes also with significant life events
  • Prone to being awkward

Likes:

● Basketball   ● Most modern music   ● Attention
● Dancing   ● Clothes   ● Video games
● Singing, rapping   ● Lilo & Stitch   ● Gummies
● Playing instruments   ● Slam poetry
Dislikes:

● Cops   ● Being ignored/given the cold shoulder
● Country music   ● Self-absorbed people
● Badflower (band)   ● Watching/reading the news
Bio:
If you want
Jordan was born in LA to a single mom who had the dream of making it big, until, at the age of nineteen, a drunken one-night stand resulted in a baby boy whom, at the last minute, she decided to keep. She took on two jobs to support them, gradually losing sight of her dream, and after eight years, she started in a downward spiral. Jordan was left at home alone while she went out to party. She lost one of her jobs, and eventually their apartment after failing to pay rent. While they were living in her car, she dropped him off for his first day of third grade and didn't return to pick him up.

Social services tracked down an uncle. The man already had a son and daughter, but he agreed to take in his sister's child, so Jordan was transported to live with relatives he never knew existed.

[And from here, it depends on the story.]

Pairings/Word Bank: Slice of life, best friends, musicians, YouTube cover artists, model x fashion designer, college students, seniors in high school, student x professor/teacher

One Last Summer

Jordan and your character have been friends since elementary school. They've been there for each other, through thick and skin, but one thing they haven't done: tell each other how they really feel. It's their last summer before their lives begin to take them in different directions. They want to make it memorable.

Name: Jason Garder
Age: 18-22, possibly older for the right story
Height: 6'2"
Sexuality: Bisexual, likely closeted or even in denial; loves rough play, wrestling, spitting, and possibly other kinks; paddles are about the only toy he's into; dominant or a switch preferring to dominate; he's less likely to be into someone who doesn't spend at least some time in the gym; open to trying polyamory, or having a harem
Distinguishing Marks: Besides the cocky smirk he often presents to the world, the first thing someone might notice is the cauliflower ear he earned in a fight in his early teens. It's his left one, more specifically. His dad genuinely congratulated him for it, so he supposes he feels pride in its existence, even if it's not exactly a hit with the ladies. He's more conscious of his crooked front teeth. His lips stay closed when he smiles.
Personality: Alpha. Jason will proclaim the label with a touch of humor, but if there is ever a time when a jest speaks to an underlying belief, this is one of them. He embodies the traits, both the good and the bad, including an immensely competitive spirit. He won't throw a fit when he loses, but it will fuel a need, almost an obsession, to push himself to improve until he can be the victor. Conflict is pretty much all Jason has known his whole life. He embraces it, and will sometimes egg it on.
Likes:

● Nice rides   ● Coffee, Gatorade   ● Proving a doubter wrong
● Sports, especially contact sports   ● Being depended on, to an extent   ● MMA, wrestling
● Arguing   ● Adrenaline rushes
● Challenges   ● Experiencing the high life
Dislikes:

● Feeling dependent   ● Pushovers, especially men   ● Lateness, laziness
● Clinginess   ● Cowards, anxious people   ● Cigarette smoke
● Sitting still too long   ● Unnecessary hesitation, especially in himself
Bio:
If you want to know

  • His father was a small-time boxer, who, according to the man himself, was on the cusp of making it big when his girlfriend announced she was pregnant. A shotgun wedding ensued. As far as Jason's concerned, it was only because someone, either the man's wife or their parents, forced him to pursue something practical, which he did, as a factory worker, but he also helped out at a boxing gym in his free time. Given that he often preferred the gym over his own home, the man didn't provide much guidance; he didn't care what his sons did as long as it didn't garner negative attention on the family, and while they were busy turning their own wheel, he was a thorn in their side every step of the way. If their mother tried to help "too much", and he found out, he would accuse her of coddling them.

Not that their mother was set to win any awards, either. In the early years, the two adults fought often, and sometimes, she would disappear after a particularly nasty argument, only to come back some days later when she, as far as Jason is concerned, thought she was missed--by her husband if no one else, until it lost the effect she desired.
  • There was a period of time in which their father pit the two brothers against one another. Jason fell for it until he realized their dad was doing it for his own sick sense of amusement. It took time for the brothers to repair the damage. There had been the occasional argument between Jason and their dad. One resulted in a smashed coffee table.
  • If there was one thing he could thank his dad for, albeit indirectly, it was the desire to excel. He earned a 4.0 in high school, allowing him to gain a pretty hefty scholarship for college.
  • Another thing he could thank his dad for, sometimes with less appreciation: the itch for a fight. His middle school years began to see detentions and suspensions. His dad suggested boxing. It took a few days before Jason could be convinced to step foot inside the gym. He suspected the man had ulterior motives, and maybe, in a way, he won in later years, but it started out as a way to release energy and stay in shape. It also helped father and son bond, and sometimes, the man almost seemed...nice--not exactly, but it was an improvement.
  • In high school, he signed up for wrestling, the only school sport his dad allowed him. He was recruited for the college's team. When he's not busy with the sport, he's involved in an MMA gym.
  • Jason wants to become a trauma surgeon, but it's difficult for him to resist the temptation to jump inside the cage.

Pairings/Word Bank: Slice of life, apocalyptic, sci-fi, powered humans, college students, pledge x pledge, little brother x big brother (fraternity), pledge x pledge master, rivals, MMA fighters, spaceship captain x crew member

Name: Brad Warren
Age: 30-35
Height: 6'2"
Sexuality: "Who's asking?"; versatile; likes kink but isn't really into d/s in the fullest sense unless he's submitting; open to polyamory
Personality: Brad might not be what one would expect of a bodyguard. That is, he has size, but he's borderline sassy and faces the world, and his principal's threats, with a flippant attitude. However, years on the job, and before that, as a cop, have allowed him to hone his natural observational skills and sharpen his intuition. He's also good on keeping his client's secrets. Just don't expect him to share his own. He loves a good lie.
Likes:

● Bars   ● Rock and blues; acoustic guitars
● Tattoos   ● Working out
● Firearms; shooting ranges   ● Soap operas
● Gossip rags   ● Ice cream, popsicles, milkshakes
Dislikes:

● Self-righteousness   ● Fancy things   ● Missed opportunities
● Kids   ● Bratty clients   ● Early mornings, when he doesn't have to be awake
● People with no humor   ● Candy, most baked goods   ● Social media
Bio:
"If you must know know..."
From as early as he can remember, Brad's parents consisted of a dead man and a depressed woman.

His dad had died because of something stupid, although his mom and paternal grandparents hid the truth from him for a while. They told him stories, but no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't feel for a man he never met. His mom tried her best to raise him, he guessed, but there were some days, in the beginning, when she was just...sulky. One day she lacked the will to get out of bed, and she was finally pushed into seeking help.

Early in his schooling, he befriended a boy, Adam. They became two peas in a pod, thick as thieves, insert preferred cliche here. It was especially great because it gave him an excuse to get away from his own family. Adam's was better.

Cue the turbulent teens. Homophobia didn't deter Brad from acting on a certain attraction when he was seventeen. Leave no stone unturned, no regrets, that whole spiel. Almost everyone put him through the wringer. He was kicked off the football team and his mother didn't react well initially. None of it came as much of a surprise, and he stayed strong for the most part. That whole time, Adam was a huge support. He was fiercely loyal.

If only Brad had returned it in kind.

Because his friend having his back came at a cost. People questioned Adam's own orientation, and just as much ire was directed at him. In his defense, Brad did repay the favor, helping him out when others gave him flack, but not when it really mattered, when Brad happened upon the beginnings of a scene involving Adam and a few bad apples. The glimpse of a knife was enough to tell him it wasn't a run-of-the-mill bully encounter. He ran.

Adam barely survived. Almost as soon as his friend was released from the hospital, Brad started to cut ties, despite protests, even retreated back into the closet for the next few years. He claimed the distance was to keep Adam safe, and maybe there was some truth to that, but really, he could hardly look him in the eye, not without wanting to admit to what he witnessed, how he acted like a coward. That was a secret he wanted to take to the grave.

But it gave him a sense of direction after graduation. He became a police officer with the naive idea that he would make a difference. That didn't happen. Brad stuck with it until his mid twenties, when he decided he had enough of writing tickets and went into security. His first couple of clients were in the business sector, but he wormed his way into the lives of America's heartthrob celebrities, building a sturdy network of clients and fellow bodyguards alike.

Pairings/Word Bank: Slice of life, apocalyptic, bodyguard x pop/rock star, bodyguard x actor, bodyguard x model, old flames, vacation

Name: Caleb Walker
Age: 20-25
Height: 5'11"
Sexuality: Gay and out; wants a good time and is adventurous, but he draws the line at the use of "fag" and heavy sadomasochism
Personality: At a glance, Caleb is an outgoing guy, congenial, funny, and ready to give anyone, even strangers, a listening ear. Stick around, and you might pick up on the borderline narcissism. Where he might consider himself helpful, others might call him meddlesome. He might not be as put together as it may appear on first glance.
Likes:

● Working out   ● Pictures, Instagram   ● Fiction and gay romances
● Team sports   ● Kids   ● Boating
● Comedies   ● Music   ● Skiing
● Parties, drinking   ● Puns and word plays
Dislikes:

● Church   ● Hardcore drugs   ● Angsty songs, "screamo"
● Bigots   ● Cigarette smoke & smell   ● Challenges, except when it comes to people
● Bullies   ● Criticism
Bio:
Might change for a post-college story
For Cal, life was practically handed to him on a silver platter. He was born as the oldest of three to a dad who worked in sales and a mother who worked as a nurse at a nursing home. Instilled with a sense of a big brother's responsibilities and being dubbed as the "man of the house" when daddy was away on work, he looked after his siblings. There were the squabbles and the harassment, of course, but as he got older, he tried his best to be there for them, and he liked to think he was close to both of them.

His most memorable moment? In his early school years, he became best friends with a deaf boy in his class. Cal saved his life in the fifth grade after giving him the Heimlich maneuver. It spurred on a school assembly, and in it, the day he was the hero was named after him.

Arguably his biggest struggle during the first eighteen years of his life was with his sexuality. His parents were pretty firm Methodists, and his dad showed discomfort toward homosexuality, so he stayed in the closet through high school and dated girls to keep up appearances.

Cal performed well enough in both baseball and academics to gain acceptance into his dad's alma mater. In his first year at the university, he kicked down the closet door with sperm a-spurtin', he joined a frat, and he lost his spot on the baseball team due to a sloppy performance. That...wasn't part of the plan, but alright, he tried not to let it bring him down.

It disappointed his dad, although what disappointed him more, and his mom, too, was having his son come out to him. Cal made the decision about a month before the next academic year was to start up. His dad said nothing, just walked out of the living room and retired to his office. After the agonizing weeks that followed, Cal was thankful when it was time to return to the dorms.
