Hello helpful people! I need a bit of help figuring out which forum section to post something.

I’m looking for a beta-reader or script/brainstorm collaborator to help me create some comic book scripts. I draw comics professionally but struggle with motivation on my personal projects and want to try working with a partner… these would be non-commercial, free to read online comics.

Can I post the same message in multiple forums? (‘RP requests’, ‘people who want something done’... I know there is a hidden story writers forum, maybe I should apply to access that one?)

It is an RP-like experience, building up a story together with someone and bouncing ideas around, just a more structured story, writing characters more collaboratively with editing and such instead of playing out a story-game post by post. Probably the kicker would be no sexual content…

I drafted the beginnings of the message I’d post when I find the right place to post it. I put it in spoilers so as not to wall-of-text this message.

Any help or advice is so very much appreciated!

Hi! I draw stuff for a living, which is really fun, my goal is to make my own comics! I have a few challenges though… I can take a writer’s script and draw a comic, I can brainstorm with RP partners on E and get some really fun ideas going but when I try to develop one of my own, non-adult comic ideas it always fizzles out. I drift off from it and get distracted by other work. Or, in the cases where I keep going the result seems lacklustre and I never take it past the script stage. I know I can create interesting worlds and stories! I’ve done it on E so why not in the real world ¬_¬?

I’ve deduced that the drifting off part is down to accountability - there’s no one waiting for my script or art so it’s easy to just put it away when things get tough. The lacklustre plots is down to inexperience as a writer, how to get experience? Finish stories! But I am back to my drifting off issues…

Long story short (or maybe long story long depending how this bit turns out…), I want to try working with someone else; kind of part beta-reader, brainstorm partner or co-writer depending on what your interest is. I’ve been involved in so many cool RP’s on E thanks to bouncing ideas between my partners, I figured it might be the thing I need to kick my ideas up and have some accountability to finish something of my own.

This is a non-commercial thing, I would serialise it on Webtoons and Tapas (web-comic reading sites) which do offer financial rewards through ad-revenue but that only kicks in at 100 subscribers and only becomes worthwhile when there are thousands of subscribers (you get fractions of a penny per view and need $20 minimum in your account before you can even withdraw, you really do need thousands of views just to hit that $20 minimum). If things got to that level then of course I would share but that’s not my goal. My goal is to finish something, get a story out into the world, grow as a writer and hopefully afford someone the chance to grow and be part of something that ends up as a comic!

The caveat is there can’t be any graphic sexual content or nudity. Sexiness and titillation, fade to black scenes are all okay although I’d really love to develop something that doesn’t rely on sexiness as its selling point. I’m totally open to all kinds of discussion, I have a huge pile of ideas and half-started projects along and more than happy to hear about yours.

To know the dark, go dark. Go without sight,
and find that the dark, too, blooms and sings,
and is traveled by dark feet and dark wings.
