Captain Trips has brought down the world, leaving behind a few straggling survivors, plagued with strange and compelling dreams of either a dark man, or fields of corn in Nebraska. Maggie has always been a rebel and something of a drifter, traveling around the country mostly living out of her truck, until the world imploded thanks to Project Blue. Now she's looking for other survivors, other people and a way to rebuild the world in a new shape.

The Stand. I think a more straight-laced or more military type character might be an interesting fit, but it's all up for discussion.
