The publishers 'Random House' have set up their own ebook library - the first book of a selection of series are free to download.

And of course, if you want classics and don't mind plain text, the place to be is Project Gutenberg.

Literally thousands of classics, several obscure works, all published before 1923 (when copyright laws were implemented).

I've only just started to explore it, but the array is fairly dizzying - lots of titles in Spanish and Portuguese as well, and all in PDF and various e-reader formats.
