If they were asked by the ISO, and still follow those orders, definitely before/already part of/when funding was good -- this would put them in the Surge category.
If they were given to a different school by the ISO, the Eclipse happened, and they didn't -- or couldn't -- return to their original school, and came to the Cathedral instead, they'd be a Luminary. :)

My background has them suspicious of the ISO from an incident after the Eclipse and they showed up at Cathedral knowing their neutrality but guarded because of the Cathedrals ties to ISO.  This could be a year ago or right now in game.

They are a little old to be a student and have the ability to be a teacher.

Either works.

If your character was a Surge, then they either left the Cathedral to participate (or stayed during the Eclipse). They'd be closer to the Founders and other students. If they are a Luminary, then they had zero ties to the Cathedral during the Eclipse and wouldn't be as close to any of the other members of the Cathedral.

Just depends who you want to play :)

She can animate and manipulate nearby plants as if they were her own limbs.  Tia can manipulate the matter in her own body becoming stronger and more durable and take on plant-like aspects such as photosynthesis or bark-like armored skin.  She can even grow vines and flowers from her own body if she wants too.  She cannot manipulate someone else’s body however, unless they are part plant.


• Vapor Manipulation –

Tia can control water in the air and ground.  She can concentrate it into droplets and create fog or smoke screens or cause the ground to become muddy or quicksand like.  This isn’t easy for her to do given the environmental disaster that the world has become and it can tire her out to the point of exhaustion on particularly hot and dry days.

• Compassionate – Tia has always been a kind and compassionate woman.  She had been a volunteer with numerous charities since she was in high school and joined the peace corp as the best way to use her super powers for the betterment of other’s lives.  She could have lost some of who she was during the Eclipse but she didn’t.  She knew that Kesi wouldn’t have wanted her to grow cold and angry.  Even in death her wife was there to keep Tia true to who she was.


• Warm – Tia is always there for a hug when you need it and a kind word when you are feeling down.  She has a ready smile and often thinks about others before herself. She loves to help in anyway that she can and she rarely asks for anything in return.


• Earthy –Tia understands organic medicine very well and loves to tend her garden and green house.  She loves being outdoors and feeling the sun kiss her skin, even in the harsh weather that has become the norm Tia enjoys being outside.  She often camps outside or naps under a shade tree on those few occasions she has nothing to do.


• Maternal – Tia has always wanted to be a mom.  She and Kesi had discussed adoption and with the purchase of their farm it looked like it might just happen. Those hopes have been dashed but she still maintains an instinct to teach and nurture be it her plants or students at the cathedral.  She is patient and calm and a good listener.


• Old Fashioned – Tia believes in hard work and getting in and getting your hands dirty.  She loves to be treated like a lady and does not believe chivalry is dead even if the world seems to be.  She is plain spoken and straight-forward (most of the time) and takes a handshake as a binding agreement.

Backstory: Tia was well on her way to having the life she always wanted.  She had graduated college with a doctorate in Environmental Science with a concentration in Agricultural Science.  Tia was registered with the ISO, but her superpowers weren’t considered particularly impressive or flashy enough to warrant much notice.  She spent a year with the peace corp after college using her powers and knowledge of agriculture to help people in poor or famine struck countries.  It was in the corp that she met her future wife Kesi.  They were married after their stint with the peace corp ended and settled down back in the states.  Tia took a job with an environmental engineering firm that concentrated on restoration of damaged locations and consulted on a number of damage relief efforts.

She and Kesi had just realized a lifelong dream of settling down on a farm of their own when the Eclipse struck.  Their farm was destroyed by the resulting environmental damage and nothing Tia could do would blunt the damage.  She almost killed herself trying to keep their farm from dying.  The enemy swept through the rural county they lived in and in the ensuing battle Kesi was killed.  Tia closed up her their farmhouse with Kesi’s body laid to rest in it and never returned.  She fought guerrilla style battles until the Eclipse was finally defeated.

After the Eclipse: After the Eclipse Tia went town to town helping those she could recover.  She gave little thought to how much this drained her and maybe she had just wanted to die so she could be with Kesi again.  Eventually a representative if the IOS caught up with her.  The ISO had her records from before the Eclipse.  Her powers, generally considered inconsequential before the attack were now worth more than gold and the ISO her to come work for them.  When she turned down their offer they insisted and said they would “escort” her to a facility nearby.  Tia never found out if the people were legit ISO representatives or some other group impersonating them as the convoy she was placed in was attacked by road gangs.  In the ensuing confusion Tia escaped and eventually made her way to the Cathedral who she had heard was a neutral party during the war and remained so after.  Tia asked Marley not to give her real name to the ISO and only gave her enough information about her abilities to make herself sound useful until she could know for sure she could trust them.  Tia has been given the job of teaching the rest how to grow food in adverse condition on a trial basis.  She is a kind and warm person in general and still wears her wedding ring.  She isn’t certain if this is the place for her long term but she is growing more comfortable as time passes.

Tia can also have a greenhouse on the Cathedral's property if she'd like. Although she'd likely have to repair/update it herself. It was probably just a second garage when she arrived. And Marley was like, "So... this."
