I was thinking about starting a small group roleplay but wanted to see if there was interest first, i didn't want to get it up and running and not have enough players. Ideally Id like to have at least 5-6 writers.

The Concept

Will take place in a modern fantasy setting.

Upon their 18th birthdays, young adults may be blessed by one of the Gods or Goddesses. Those who have been blessed are invited to live in a secluded village where they can learn about their new abilities and well as there responsibilities to the mortals around them.

Slice of Life style role play, characters can have a wide range of ages. They all live in a gated villiage and have to coexist with each other as well as take on tasks of being a God/Goddesses apprentice.

Alright since I have seem to have drummed up some tentative interest, I have thought more on the story and how things will work!

So after the characters eighteenth birthday, they will receive a letter asking them to come and stay in the Blessed Falls Village. There, there is a series of houses where the blessed live. Each house is dedicated to a God or Goddess, so if two people are blessed by Hades... they are now roommates.

Residents of Blessed Falls Village can learn more about their abilities through various courses and activities, there will be Gurus {Or maybe sages.... i'm at a lost on a name but essentially a teacher type} that will conduct the courses.

The reasoning is that the blessed have a very important job. The Gods and Goddess' are too busy to handle every possible request or prayer so they set up these villages throughout the world. Blessed Falls Village is just one of many. Each village has a temple just outside of it where people of the near by towns come and leave their offerings and ask for guidance or help. Those requests get filtered and then assigned to the Blessed to help.

I'm thinking for the major conflict, some sort of villain that I haven't fully fleshed out just yet. Likey going to be a person who has a grudge against the Gods, maybe a mortal who thinks the Gods shouldn't interfere in the worlds matters.

Overall game is going to be sandbox/freeform with events that sort of help with moving things along and bringing everyone back together.



Q&A

I will try and place questions I receive here as well as my best explanation to them.


1. Are they all brought to a village when they turn 18 or can they be brought in at later ages?

Their powers will begin to manifest but they can come to the village at any time. However, the longer they are away from the village, the weaker their abilities become and eventually the blessed abilities will fade out.


2. In the Greek myths some gods clearly don't like each other. Will the relationships between their patrons have any effects on relationships between characters?

The mortals have full control over their emotions and thoughts so if a God/dess was not fond of another, it doesn't necessarily mean the blessed would feel the same way. You could definitely have your character influenced by that though!


3. I know it says it's slice of life, but will there be events? Is it safe to assume that 'missions' will be very different between characters due to the interests of their patrons?

Yes, so it is over all a Slice of Life style game and very sandbox but there will be two types of events that can randomly pop up.

Village Event/Celebration:: There will be large village celebrations where everyone is encouraged to come and participate. This will be used occasionally to sort of bring all the members together every so often.

Blessed Tasks:: The Elders may assign Houses tasks from the God/desses. These will be specific to character affiliations and abilities.

There is also going to be a larger scale conflict later on in the story to add a little drama and fun!


4. What would a typical day in the village look like for these people?

Everyday is going to be pretty simple if they have no available tasks. They will wake up, they can socialize or train, they may have responsibilities like tending the gardens; and there will also be Elder Taught lessons they can attend to further grow in their abilities.


5. What Brings them to the village? Are they drawn to it, or does someone come and fetch them?

One of the elders would have either retrieved them, or sent a letter depending on distance.


6. Would the Gods/Goddess have contact with those they blessed?

The God/dess could have contact, maybe in the form of visions or voices all the way to full appearance (though rare).

I do have a question! What do you think the "Chosen," as it were, would be precisely? Would they be children of the Gods, like Percy Jackson? Or are they Mortals that the Gods have just taken an interest in for whatever reason?

I think they are more like... mortals blessed by the Gods, which could even give them abilities. I never read Percy Jackson but I didn't want to to children off because.... that tecknically makes everyone related haha Good ole greek bloodlines

Aaaaah, they're half divine, it's fine.

But okey dokey. Did the Gods pick them at birth, or did they get blessed because of a specific event or character trait? Would it be possible for multiple Gods to want the same Mortal and therefore kind of be fighting over them?
"He's a warrior! I want him!"
"Fuck off, Ares, you had the last one!"

etc etc xD

It could actually go either way. Maybe some were picked really early or at birth.... while some weren't chosen until after they grew and showed the Gods some sort of specific quality. One constant is that then full power of the blessing doesn't take effect until 18

Aaah, I see. Would it be possible that they get "Blessed" by a God that doesn't match who they are? For example, an otherwise complete pacifist does something super brutal in defence of their family and gets "Blessed" by Ares, thereby creating an existential crisis of this peaceful person having a Blessing that they don't actually want? xD

It would have been my first time playing in a Scion related game.  If you look down this page there is a locked thread that was Aethyrium’s proposed game to get some idea of it.  She was doing a freeform version of the system as I understood it, not dice based.

I'm leaning towards a girl blessed by Thanatos, or if that's a little too edgy, I could also go for Eris. Both seem like gods that aren't too popular, but which no one wants to upset, so they would probably have token representation in the village.

For me personally, would it be possible to reserve Hephaestus and Aphrodite?

I want a super innocent/pure minded girl blessed by Aphrodite who gave her out-of-this-world curves and sex appeal and a savant inventor/engineer blessed by Hephaestus

Unless we are allowed to have multiple people blessed by the same god, at which point, we're good

I'm gonna reserve Ares. I'm thinking of a male character who's absolutely fuckin' huge, and his internalised rage and hair trigger temper earned him a blessing from Ares to match him perfectly for berserker rages, but all he really wants to do is cook and paint. xD So if it's possible for a Blessed to "switch Gods," maybe Hestia is trying to wriggle him out from under Ares' thumb xD
