Secrets of the Dwemer

Among the great mysteries of Tamriel, few are as profound as the disappearance of the entire Dwemer race. The disappearance of the Dwemer was a major event that took place 1E 700. The event came about as a result of the events at the Battle for Red Mountain. The battle brought the near complete disappearance save for one, at least that’s according to Yagum Bargam. Though the Dwemer have disappeared the technologies they developed have not.

Kagrenac, the great Dwemer engineer, used profane tools (Wraithguard, Keening, and Sunder) and specific rituals to attach the Dwemer race to the power of the Heart of Lorkhan; which, for one reason or another, caused the destruction of the entire race. That the Dwemer disappeared during the Battle of Red Mountain is something of a coincidence; perhaps spurred on by the armies of the Chimer, led by Indoril Nerevar and his generals Voryn Dagoth, Vivec, Almalexia, and Sotha Sil.

According to certain historical sources, those four Chimer were far more involved in the event, having fought the Dwemer King Dumac and Kagrenac themselves in the deep caverns beneath Red Mountain, possibly forcing their hands. It may also explain how Dwemer artifacts do not appear to age, and how much of their machinery (and their Centurions) are still operable today and in one documented case, how they react at various distances from Morrowind.

Along with the disappearance of the Dwemer another race fell off the earth. The Snow Elves, Ancient Falmer, or Ice Elves. They vanished along with the Dwemer leaving behind a the twisted, blind, and horrific falmer. A pale reflection left behind of the once proud Snow Elves. Centuries of living underground, being poisoned slowly by their slavers the Dwemer rendered them blind twisted creatures that kill all others.

The Court Wizard of Markarth Calcelmo has dedicated his life to the research and excavation of Dwemer ruins. He wants nothing more than to know how they were created, how they harnessed the power of steam, what the Heart of Lorkhan really was. Everything about the Dwemer, Calcelmo is greedy for the knowledge. Having learned of a newly discovered entrance to Dwemer ruins outside of the Falkreath border deep in the mountains.

Calcelmo has hired a team to locate to go into the ruins to locate on of the three legendary Dwemer artifacts, the Staff of Keening. Once a dagger, the stone was broken and fastened within a staff according to Calcelmo’s research. Calcelmo believes that kinding the Staff of Keening will help him locate the other two lost profane tools Wraithguard and Sunder.

Calcelmo has hired more than one team though. In fact he has hired two, forgetting that he hired the first one. His proposition to them all is simple. All of them work together. More hands means it’s more likely he’ll receive the artifact he is looking for instead of all of them dying. What they find in the ruins of Keenguarsun is much more than a simple staff though and it might claim them all.

I really like what you've got for the set up!  I have a soft spot in my heart for good, old, crusty Calcelmo too.  I have a few questions, if I may. 

1. What did you have in mind for characters?  Any limits or things you'd prefer to see or not to see?

2. How do you want characters to approve?  Via PM or post here first?

3. Have any of the canon Skyrim events taken place?  Will any of them be touching what we do?

4.  What is the place/role of smut in this RP?

I'd like to register my interest also! I'll wait and see how things unfold before comitting to which type of character I create, as I like to fill unfilled niches in a story. :)

I hope there's enough room for one more - that is, me. I am a big fan of the Elder Scrolls games and lore and although I may not be a connoisseur - though the fact that I pretty much knew the story of the dwemer's dissapearance apart from precise names puts me in the "fan" categorie - I sure am motivated.

1) I have no limits on things. I want a variety of characters. Play any race that you want!

2) I do have a system for character sheets that I'll be posting now that the hustle and bustle of Thanksgiving is over for me.

3) I don't think that many of the civil war parts of Skyrim will be a factor in what's happening with our game. I will ponder this further.

4) Smut happens when it happens. This is largely an action based game but if characters find a time/place for smut each character will have their own personal thread for such things so it doesn't derail the entire game.
