Arawen Telethellyn was born in a small woodland elf colony at the foot of Hrozenzi’s volcano. It was not a large colony but a peaceful one. They did not have a standing militia but all of of them were trained in sword and bow. At home in the forrest and among the tress. The peace did not last, at first it was sightings of the kobolds, and then came the skirmishes. The colony defended itself if negligible casualties, until the attacks became more frequent. It was decided that emissaries were to be sent out for help. Arawen was one, but on the night they were to leave, the kobolds attacked with a force never before seen. Their mission changed from seeking help to warning the rest of the island. The small group made its escape at a great cost, even then there were enough kobolds to hamper the escape. They seem to be guided by a cold dark intelligence. The group split, each hoping to reach civilisation. Arawen was the only one that made it out alive..
Choice is but an Illusion. Consequences are however real.

Will have a cleric (or perhaps Druid?) up after work today

Sifri was well known for several villages around as the strongest woman on the island. While the truth of that is debatable there was no question that Sifri had been born tall and athletically gifted, and when that combined with years of working on her father's fishing boat it made her into powerhouse that few could match. Sifri's parents were proud of her, and she was helping her father make her a boat of her own when the dragon came.

Sifri's village was one of the first to fall when Hrozenzi and his followers established thier dominance over the island. All the boats were burned, including Sifri and her father's, and in the fighting her father lost his hand and her mother was burned to ash. The remnants of the village scattered, refugees with no homes and finding that wherever they turned the dragon and his minions were already there or soon to arrive.

Things have settled a bit since the worst days. Sifri has learned to live her life, to enjoy things when she can and to fish without a boat. But underneath it all Sifri burns with fury at the death of her mother and the loss of nearly everything she holds dear. She doesn't let it control her but she tends to it every day, knowing that sooner or later she will get her chance to let it out.

Ala Summercloud
Halfling Cleric of Desna

Bands of halflings dwell across the breadth of Hrozenzi. Ala hails from the Summerclouds, a nomadic bunch of forest-dwellers on the southern coast. Her young life was that of any other in her tribe, traveling from cliff to shore as the rains came and went, weaving baskets, hiding in the verge of the trees while the adults traded with the Tall Ones. The Summerclouds and other halflings enjoyed the paradise of their homeland, growing plump and happy off the bounty of the forest and seas.

Like any other youngster in the band, Ala had ot undergo a rite of initiation; Bonfur, the shaman of the tribe, mixed a potion of mushrooms and magic charms, and sent her to the Cave of Visions on the sea cliff. Surrounded by the paintings of her ancestors all the way back, she was overcome by visions; fire! Wrath! Fear! A great hero in gleaming armor dissolving into a cloud of butterflies; and where the butterflies touched her, they joined her being. In her vision-induced dreams, she learned the ways of Desna, The Song of the Spheres, and patron of the Summerclouds.

when she awoke, doom had come to Hrozenzi; the dragon and his minions had laid waste, and her people were captives under the reptile's torments and tyranny! She knows Desna chose to bless her so that she might free her people - all the people! from the wyrm, but she can't do it alone; she's going to need help from the Tall Ones.

Ala is an adventurer by necessity, not by trade; her people are nomads, and she is the only one of them not a captive, as far as she knows. She's had rare few dealings with the Tall Folk, and doesn't know their ways - but she will have to, in order to work with them. She's confident that her Goddess has chosen her, and proud of it - but really the whole reality of that is just a little terrifying. She's no shrinking violet though, and is more than happy to dive into a new experience or three. She's just as happy to teach others of her tribe's ways (which are, of course, the proper way to do things - not that she'll judge.)

Lexara Aurois Gnome (Fey-Touched) Sorcerer (Fey) CG Fortune Teller

Many kids have imaginary friends. Lexara had an imaginary cat, until it became real. Fey blood ran strong in her veins and it was just the beginning of strangeness around her. Without training, she started manifesting some minor magic. Face with such gift, she used it as a punchline for many jokes as well as colouring ever thing she owned. Making all of her possessions as colourful as she is.

This would be the extent of it if it wasn't for a witch with her travelling band. It was somebody to see potential in her and help her refine it. Push her to create powerful spells, trach her about arcane arts and even teach her a little about fortune-telling. How she would summon lightning to protect herself, cure a minor case of stab disease and even tell if somebody is cursed, most often they weren't.

Even so, there is only some much one can learn from a single woman, and Lexaras power didn't come from a study. Not was she a book worm type. Having enought magic to do deal with most common of bandits, she left to travel the world.

Glad to see all the interest! At this rate I might not have to make a GMPC to fill empty roles.  :P

Due to the numbers of character submissions, I will split players into two parties, each with a maximum of four players. Pick which group you would like to join from the following choices.

Lawful heroes - The heroes must unite the peoples of Hrozenzi (the island), convince them to reject Hrozenzi's (the dragon's) rule, and overthrow the draconian tyrant!

Chaotic heroes - The heroes must avoid Hrozenzi's secret police and cultists, retrieve the Regalia of the Dragonslayer, and slay the tyrannous dragon!

And now, a little more setting information about the island of Hrozenzi!

The middle of the island is a dormant volcano that had been inactive, according to legend since the defeat of the original mythical Hrozenzi. Since the second Hrozenzi's arrival though (a little more than a century ago - in any case, before the birth of any of the player characters), the volcano has been seen periodically smoking, although nobody knows whether that's coming from geological activity or the dragon. His lair is rumored to be inside the volcano.

The slopes of the volcano are a thick jungle inhabited by tribes of kobolds and other reptilian folk that worship the dragon. "Soft-skins" are not welcome and any caught in their lands are sacrificed to the dragon. Mostly isolationists, the tribes engage in limited trade with the coastal settlements, usually trading diamonds they mined from the volcanic rock.

Special feature - Weeping Skull: A large rock that looks like a dragon skull in the side of the volcano. Water pours out from openings where the the eye sockets and mouth would be, giving it its name. It is the largest source of freshwater on the island, creating a river that flows down to the sea, but its secrets are jealously guarded by the tribe that lives nearby.

The coasts are inhabited by humanoid races who farm the land and fish the sea. Traditionally the settlements were minor baronies that could muster up enough militia to drive off kobold raids, but the dragon removed all the old power structure and installed a new Council to govern in his name. The Council's guardsmen supposedly keep the peace, but in reality they suppress any dissent and rebellion.

Special feature - Crossbone Reef: The island has never been much of a trade hub, but it is a convenient base for pirates raiding nearby trading lanes, and even a dragon's arrival couldn't change that. The pirate town of Crossbone Reef is a collection of shipwrecks run aground on a particularly notorious reef on the island's coast, lashed together into a mini-island of its own. Every year or so some ship trying to dock would run afoul of the reef and involuntarily expand the town that way (leave it to pirates to have their dock on top of the most dangerous reef in the place!). The pirates placate the dragon by giving him a cut of their booty, and he in turn leaves them alone.

I am also with you to slay the dragon (chaotic heroes).

GreenFlame

Why slay the the dragon, when you can lay her.

Lexaras alignment is CG, she values freedom and would absolutely use her influence to start a rebellion against a oppressive leader. I will join the lawful team.

Should we have a word map?

I would be all up to laying down the dragon if among dragonslayer regalia is collar of dragon taming (and if said dragon is female and able polymorph).

Chulanowa

I mean, you offer "slay the dragon" as an option, everyone's going to want to do that  ;D

Hamadryad

We will have to go for the lawful heroes I think!

Autocad

Well both parties will have to slay the dragon in the end. The only difference is how they get there.

Current Roster:

Lawful heroes - The heroes must unite the peoples of Hrozenzi (the island), convince them to reject Hrozenzi's (the dragon's) rule, and overthrow the draconian tyrant (which means slaying him since he's not going to step down voluntarily)!
GreenFlame - Lexaras (Gnome Sorcerer)
Hamadryad - Francesca (Human Wizard)

Chaotic heroes - The heroes must avoid Hrozenzi's secret police and cultists, retrieve the Regalia of the Dragonslayer, and slay the tyrannous dragon!
Arcanist - Arawen (Elf Ranger)
Zaer - Baramos (Half-Elf Bard)

caelcormac

My heart lies with team chaos but I will switch side's in the name of party balance if needed

Arcanist

One magic heavy team and one non :)
At least so far it looks like it.
Choice is but an Illusion. Consequences are however real.

pdragon

Well seeing how law and persuasion are my character's main skills, I'll go for team lawful heroes.
What a thrill...with silence and darkness through the night....

Hey, bards do know magic :P. But true bards aren't magic heavy lot but still. Baramos is more a skill monkey sort (fits for also muse what he has).

Autocad

Perhaps lawful and chaos weren't the best way to put it.

Team Rebel Alliance (used to be team lawful) - unite the island and lead a rebellion against Hrozenzi to take him down!

Team Resistance (used to be team chaotic) - wage a guerrilla campaign against Hrozenzi with minimal support and assassinate him!

Chulanowa

GreenFlame

New names work better, still going with rebellion.

Sticking with the same team.

...is there an echo in here?

Falgrim Stormshield
Dwarven Fighter of Clan Stormshield

Falgrim grew up the son of a stone mason and a City guard, deep within the roots of the mountains, near the rivers of molten rock that the Stormshield clan and others used to power their forges. He respected his parents, he lived to their ideals and learned from them what he could. He would spend his days among the artisans and blacksmiths of the Crafters Hall and let his hands get dirty, let the stone and earth that first birthed the dwarven race sink into his skin as he worked with steel and stone. He took after his mothers trade more often, crafting slate and statue to adorn the homes of his king and kin.

Once his full beard grew in Falgrim enlisted in the cities standing army, not content to watch the peace in his home, but to delve into the tunnels and turn back the goblin scouts and reclaim lost tunnels from orcs and Drow alike. He trained hard and worked harder, doing his best to make himself stand out from the crowd. When he got out of basic his father gifted him his axe, and the faithful weapon has served him well ever since. It was going well until that fateful mission into the deep tunnels.

The clans had scouted out veins of mithril running deep under the mountains core, and Falgrim and his company were put in charge of securing a forward base and fortifying a position. It went well at first, and the masons they brought along to help build the fortifications served well with the soldiers assistance. It was well, until the orcs surged from the tunnels. Falgrim should have given the order to retreat, to see the civilians to safety before they collapsed a section of the tunnel. He was proud, and in his inexperience gave the order to attack. They were few to many, the orcish horde overwhelmed them and by the time the order to retreat was given half the company was lost or wounded, and some of the merchants were no where to be found.

It was not long there after that Falgrim resigned his commission, taking what he could carry he left his home to get what he so sorely lacked, and hopefully prove that he was not the failure he thought he was. It was during that travel that word got to him of a Dragon causing havoc on the island of Hrozenzi, and he though maybe this is what he was looking for. Securing passage on a merchant vessel he made his way towards the volcanic island

As far as groups(should I get in) he can fit either.. though the Rebel would suit him well. Hes a stand up fighter(though I plan to give him a wizard archtype) and would do better in situations that might arise from that.
