A rift between two 1944's

This is an idea I played out several months ago, but the one I was playing it out with vanished, and I havnt stopped thinking about it. Its a specific idea, not for everyone, but if it appeals to you, we can have some fun with it.

It would be set in 1944, ETO, with a rift being opened up between two parallel earths, with two United States and two occupied europes, both fighting. In yours, it would be as it was, but on mine, things would be a bit different in that women would be fighting in combat roles, they got equality a lot earlier and are fighting in Europe to liberate it. There would be some advancements on my Earth that yours havnt developed yet, but most of the weapons would be the same.

I'm thinking we could be in Bastogne, or in Arnhem, some city or battle where it didnt go well on this earth for the allies, but in mine, we would have progressed more, pushing the Germans back more. A transport plane would crash on the same spot on both Earths, causing a rift to open. Leading my company, we would come through, discover how things are both similar and different at the same time, and fight with you. The rift could close after a while, or remain open, thats up to us.
