I need to update the various things with their lifespans, some have extended ones and some don't.

Short answer: Yes but not by much. I really wanted to avoid anyone's age starting to move into centuries. I think shifters will settle on an average lifespan of around 100.

Thank you, that's super helpful :-)

No problem.

I know some love to write extremely old supernatural beings. But ultimately I'm aiming for a fairly accessible sandbox. I personally think writing a person of 50 is a challenge to a person in their 20's. A person in their 80's a challenge to someone in their 50's. So on and so on. Until, eventually, when character ages start reaching multiple centuries of unbroken memory questions stop being 'how do I deal with this curse' and become 'how do I deal with the unbearable boredom'. Which is interesting, but not the intent of this game.

Just in case anyone's wondering my reasoning on keeping the game's races generally to 'around for under 150 years', this is why. The character complexities and tones change.

oddly got into a few strange ideas lately. not sure if they'd fit.
Prudence, justice, temperance, courage, faith, hope, love...
debate any other aspect of my faith these are the heavenly virtues. this flawed mortal is going to try to adhere to them.

Culture: the ability to carve an intricate and beautiful bowl from the skull of a fallen enemy.
Civilization: the ability to put that psycho in prision for killing people.

I really love this concept and the lore so far is really well done and deep.

I am thinking of playing a Wendigo as a Grotesque. Someone who works for the Firm as an Assassin, hunting down threats.

I am thinking a former Russian mobster (low ranking) who was in the wrong place as a grotesque was cursing someone else, only to be subbed in as the ritual subject for interrupting. He killed the original, but started to suffer the ill effects of the change, and one of the trusted doctors of the mob knew what was going on. He faked his death to keep the mob off of his back (not hard when you practically die during the change anyway), and made his way to the Firm to offer his services in exchange for guidance and education.

He’s been there a while now and is an experienced Assassin, one of the more familiar faces sitting at the bar.

I got a few ideas for the Wendigo’s abilities too:

-Silent Step, as he is most at home hunting someone, he’s adept at not being heard
-Unnerving Presence, just being around a Wendigo triggers an unease. Can be gotten used to.
-Resilient Constitution, Wendigos crave flesh, but they have stomachs of steel. Poisons and non-edibles don’t effect digestion
-Caloritic Healing, eating more means faster healing, to the point where he get away from major damage by consuming.
-Shadowstep, it takes a lot to do, but Wendigo can use the shadows around them to better hunt prey, stepping through them as portals.

Hey sun! Color me interested!

Looking more so as a demon host. Not sure which one however, thinking Wrath, but not sure.
“The Doctor: This is bad, I don't like this. [kicks console and yells in pain] Never use force, you just embarrass yourself. Unless you're cross, in which case... always use force!
Amy: Shall I run and get the manual?
The Doctor: I threw it in a supernova.
Amy: You threw the manual in a supernova? Why?
The Doctor: Because I disagreed with it! Now stop talking to me when I'm cross!”

Well, the worst I can do is say they don't.

A Wendigo is entirely fitting as a grotesque and a good idea.

The concept works entirely.

But those are to comany abilities and a couple I don't really associate with Wendigos.

The constitution thing will be added to all Grotesques, it seems like something they should all have.

Edit: Was still a bit too much relative to other grotesques. All grotesques are getting the 'disease carrier' trait as well as the constitution thing. Really seems natural to them.

Wendigo's things will be vocal mimicry and stealth.

Shadowstep isn't something I associate Wendigos with. (They may do it in some but I'm really looking at the most core few things.) I would say vocal mimicry would be very useful though.

Hey!

Will do. Any kind of demon host sounds good.

Edit: Putting this here to clarify. In short you can request absolutely anything in terms of types of mythological creature. Likewise I can deny it or change it or change it based on the mythos and the game's setting. Some things need balancing. Look at the other subtypes and check how much they can do. Suggest costs as well as blessings.

If you think a type of Cursed is missing something feel free to say. I might disagree but I wont get mad about it. I'm sure I have missed things.

Toying with a Demonhost concept as well, I was curious if you had any objections to historic Biblical referenced demons? I’m not gonna run with anyone ultra-powerful like Lucifer or the Anti-Christ or anything, perhaps Asmodai or Lilith?

While I’m at it, I’ll reserve Jhene Aiko as my FC. ☺️

"'Demons': Demonhosts are not demons. Demons don't exist in this setting. At least not in the traditional sense. There is no hell there is no lucifer demons have no distinct personality they just have an obsession. You cannot 'speak' to your demon. The demon does not speak to you. The demon influences behaviour via chemical changes and induced urges. A wrath demon may juice you full of adrenaline when you get angry. A Lust one with hormones when you feel excited. All demons flood their host with endorphins for committing their sin. They don't 'tell' they 'influence'. Demons in this game can do nothing if they do not have a host."

This update was made to Demonhosts. They're not 'those' demons.

I should probably mention at this point that I am currently writing up a wererat chemist, and if there's anyone bringing in an old punk, let's talk ties!

Sounds like an intriguing character, can't wait to see what you come up with!

Duly noted, thank you for the clarification.

No problem. I fully understand that it was a bit vague. Some stuff is. There's so much in my head about this setting that I've tried to write out but sometimes some of it's going to stay in my head until someone reminds me it needs noting down.

That sounds great! Chemists are a thing nobody's mentioned much and I think they'll be fun. I think wererats probably deserve affinity for purple magic. Which suits a chemist well. I'll adjust them a little and add that.

Thank you! They're up in the world building thread now. As Jess said all CS's are sent in for approval via PM's. Sometimes there's a lot of points to be made and doing it in a recruitment thread can get messy and convoluted with people having to read through other's CS's critiques when they don't care. Plus most dislike publicly critiqued. Not that I ever aim to be excessively critical but there's often a few things to point out.

Would it be feasible to create a short 'submitted concepts' overview/table? I'm generally a fan of visible applications since that can spark ideas and allows to avoid stepping on toes more readily - it could be a useful addition that serves the same purpose.

Nearly every concept I've had has been vague at best more like 'I might do X' than 'Here is a solid concept'. So that's quite hard to do really.

Approved CS's are here, though: https://elliquiy.com/forums/index.php?topic=307214.0

I call shenanigans, though - an unfriendly Maine Coon?  :P

It at least shows what's got in so far.

Also in case anyone's not clear please don't post any unapproved CS's in there. It's just to check out what's in so far.

Just to note:

Almost every single CS we've got so far has 'Adept' as their rank. Really looking for more 'members'. The majority of characters should be 'members'.

All cats are unfriendly XD. Just don't get on Olivia's bad side and Laura will like you a little more. Hehe

VonDoom

I maintain that Maine Coon are big lovable fluffy bundles of friendliness.  ;D

Face claims are difficult for me, since I pretty much always use artwork, but I'd like to tentatively reserve Khaled el-Nabawy.

Reserved!

Just another note on characters.

If you have an adept your second is going to need to be a member or an initiate.

If you want a master as your second in future your first should be a member or initiate. Having people with multiple adepts/masters is going to really limit those roles.

Also members are not necessarily less powerful or capable than adepts. There's lots of reasons to be different ranks including time with the firm, responsibility and trustworthiness. Or just desire. Some may just want to do their job and not have to have responsibility over anyone else.

Update: The following F.A.Q has been updated.

Can I play a Master of X role? There has been a change of heart on this. At game start all Masters will be NPC roles. They may become open to players at a later date depending on circumstances. So, no for the time being.

If anything the issue of a lot of adepts is only growing. I can't have everyone be one.

The only two concealers at the moment are adepts, so no more adept concealers will be accepted. It is generally unlikely any adepts at all will be until there are more members and initiates.
