So... what qualifies as an 'attack on self-worth?'
« on: June 09, 2019, 09:33:13 am »
I feel that I should make an earnest attempt to understand what actually qualifies as attacks of this nature. The reason I ask is because I would like to restore some lost faith in whether I can safely report these in the future. So, some questions...

1.  What is simply being a crab-ass to someone (general incivility) and what is an attack on self-worth? What makes these different in the eyes of Staff?

2.  Can I truly report these incidents in relative safety?

3.  I understand that incivility generally merits a warning nudge from Staff. Or, at least... they seem to. However, what is to be done about those that 'attack self-worth' if they are indeed considered different?

We take every report on both civility and attacks on self worth very seriously.  While we will take action if/when necessary, we do keep the matters private to those involved. If you are in doubt, please report - we can't help a situation if we're not made aware of it.

As to the difference of an attack on self worth and being uncivil- an attack on self worth is something meant to bring down someones confidence and views on themselves, incivility is an impolite or offensive comment.

I see. That gives me more understanding on what to actually report (so I might not confuse these two, improperly misrepresent a situation, etc.).

Thank you for this information, Daeva. It is a tremendous help!

There can be a lot of overlap (generally, if someone is attacking your self-worth, they aren't polite about it - although it's very possible to do so).

If you aren't sure, but the post is still unsettling to you, please reach out to Staff regardless.
