Status Update:  No Longer Seeking!

    ~ THE DRAGON'S DEMAND ~
    A Pathfinder Adventure

IMPORTANT ADDENDUM:  Please notify me in PM if there are players whose exclusion from the game will result in your non-participation.

Synopsis:  What is this game about?  It has a dragon that wants you to do stuff.

QuoteFounded by a famous dragonslayer, the small town of Belhaim has become a sleepy rural community just off the beaten path, a settlement where everyone knows everyone and strangers are the talk of the town. But when Belhaim’s peace and quiet is shattered by the sudden collapse of the last standing tower of its founder’s castle, things quickly bloom out of control. Why were there bodies of kobolds amid the rubble? What’s the sinister secret behind the strange sounds of flapping wings in the night? And what’s happened to local wizard Balthus Hunclay, who’s not answering knocks on his door? The collapsed tower had long been an eyesore to the cantankerous old man--could he have had something to do with its destruction? And what of the rumors of strange stirrings in nearby Dragonfen? Has Belhaim’s ancient draconic nemisis returned?

The Dragon’s Demand is a deluxe super-adventure for 1st-level characters, and includes 64 action-packed pages of adventure and new monsters, plus a beautiful double-sided, full-color poster map of the town of Belhaim and an important miniatures-scale battleground! Players can expect to reach 7th level by the time they complete this epic adventure--if they manage to survive the wrath of a dragon when his demands aren’t met!  (Also, if they manage to post.  --GM)

Status:  Currently seeking a party of 4-6 players.  I have three players already.

    Character Creation Rules:

    • 25-point buy
    • Max HP at first level/roll subsequent levels
    • 2 background skills
    • 2 traits
    • half starting gold;
The GM prefers attractive characters over ugly ones and normal races over abnormal ones.  Please no small races.

New Players:  New players are welcome.  I am happy to help new players create characters and learn the rules.

GETTING STARTED:  A large part of the adventure is getting to know the people of Belhaim and exploring its hinterlands, so it's best if the PCs are not natives of the town. This adventure assumes they've only recently arrived--if your players don't have any particular preference for how things begin, a man named Silas Gribb offers them a job as caravan guards. Upon the caravan's arrival in Belhaim, Gribb is arrested on a warrant for smuggling, and Belhaim's sheriff and his most skilled deputies head out within the hour to escort him and his confiscated caravan south to Cassomir. The PCs can easily convince the authorities of their ignorance about Silas' criminal activities, but are left stranded in Belhaim, as Silas is obviously unable to pay them for the caravan job.  Talia Orem, the young proprietor of the Wise Piper Inn, takes pity on the PCs and offers free room and board for a few days--long enough for the now aimless party to at least figure out what to do next.  As the adventure begins, start with the PCs in the Wise Piper's common room as evening falls. Silas has been arrested earlier in the day. The PCs are seated at a long table, enjoying a free meal of fresh bread with cheese and honey, washed down by watery mead-give the players a chance to introduce their characters to each other before proceeding with the next scene.

Posting Style:  Check my other game threads to see how I run a game so you aren't surprised.  I expect players to post at least once a week.  You are not required to post lengthy posts -- just enough to reasonably convey what you want to do within a round.

Sex Stuff:  Acceptable between players, but I run my games pretty straight-laced.

Character Submission:  Your character doesn't need a long background.  Your character's origin doesn't have to be interesting or intriguing.  Do not put a lot of effort into it.  If you and I have had a tiff before, whether actual or imaginary, please talk to me in PM before you start working on a character.

Variant Rules:  Initiative has been completely overhauled.  All enemies operate off of the same initiative.  The first round will consist of actions taken by allies who have a higher initiative than the enemies, then the enemies will act, and then all allies will be able to act in one huge initiative block.  Following rounds will simply consist of two initiative blocks: enemy actions and party actions.  Turn order is NOT respected.  Furthermore, you may perform free actions freely throughout, but those free actions may only be performed within six-seconds (since that's the length of the round).

Leaving the Game:  Sometimes you gotta leave the game because life/work/depression/animosity-towards-the-GM.  That's fine.  However, please tell me, preferably in PM, that you're leaving so that I can find a replacement.  Since that can be a daunting challenge for some, I have taken the liberty of drafting up a sample note that you can send me in PM should you need to leave:  "Because of reasons, I gotta go, Phantom.  I will/will not be back (circle one).  Thanks and sorry."

While I enjoy gestalt characters, this isn’t a gestalt campaign.

Going to throw my hat into here as well.  I’m thinking Warpriest.  Haven’t played one yet.

    Great!  Sounds good to me.

A war priest is probably in town for a different reason, though.

    Kaisen

    Half-Elf Monk

An abandoned half breed bastard left to be raised at a monastery. While the temple taught martial arts as a means of instilling discipline and temperance, Kaisen was a willful and hot headed child, often picking fights with other disciples for the smallest of sleights. This only got worse when he discovered alcohol, his first and truest love, eventually growing so unruly that he was kicked out of the temple under the pretense of being sent on "pilgrimage". Now he spends his days drifting from job to job, tavern to tavern, in eternal pursuit of merriment and revelry. Unfortunately his brash attitude and short temper ensures that he never stays in one place for too long. He is a strong fighter who loves testing his skills, and despite his lack of traditional schooling he occasionally shows wisdom beyond his years, dispensing useful advice that he himself fragrantly ignores.
What a thrill...with silence and darkness through the night....

    Gracia Aldsmith

    Gracia Aldsmith
    Race: Human
    Class: Bloodrager (Draconic Bloodline)

Backstory: Born into a mercenary group, Gracia was taught at a young age that might makes right. Luckily for her, she was born with plenty of might to spare. Much stronger and tougher than most, she quickly earned her place among her group through raw force on the battlefield, which only grew stronger when her bloodrage manifested in her teens. As she grew older, though, she began having doubts about the integrity of her profession, her band leader being completely unscrupulous and willing to do any job for gold, no matter how dirty. Displeased by her way of life but unskilled in anything but battle, she set off on her own to sell her talents to less shady folks.

At least, people she assumed weren't shady. Gribb's smuggling kind of put a wrench in her travel plans.

Personality: Quiet, stoic and seemingly emotionless at first glance, in reality Gracia is very awkward outside of combat. Raised from birth to do nothing but fight, she's extremely uncomfortable in social situations, and withdraws into herself rather than try to engage in conversation. Her speech is stilted, and her attempts to smile tend to look unintentionally murder-y. Romantically and sexually she's similarly stunted, as combat skills don't usually translate into lovemaking skills. Her first crush died in battle three days after she realized she liked him, so she has no experience with anything beyond awkward staring.

    Istavan
    Character Sheet HP:AC: 18

Background: As a baby, Istavan's parents were murdered by Orcs. It was only by luck that a Ranger found Istavan before he too was murdered. Far from civilization with no idea where to leave the baby, the Ranger decided to raise Istavan as her own. From young, Istavan had an almost supernatural affiliation with Nature and could mimic its fauna effortlessly. Lyrissa, the now-retired Ranger,  a worshipper of Gozreh, encouraged Istavan to venerate nature. In a blink of an eye, Istavan grew to a young adult and it was time for him to experience life on his own. Hired as a guide, he found himself stranded after finding out that his employer is a smuggler. With not many funds left, perhaps he could find another caravan home.

Well gunslingers aren’t feasible with 1/2  cash, unless you go with the PFS settings for prices. 1/10th cost for ammo and 1/2 for alchemicurounds (assuming craft alchemy of at least rank 1)

    At least a tank isn’t.

    Maybe a swashbuckler type.

    Arcanist

Well, I can just purchase a short bow and nothing else :) There goes my wish for a Composite Long Bow...could I buy a Tool Kit and make one? heheehehehhe

@Arcanist:  You cannot start with “created” items, but you may create items as you go.

Either that, or take the Rich Parents trait.

    Done
Took stigmatised as a drawback which fit.
    Added rich parents (dead)
Changed social trait orphaned to child of nature.

Question - can you add two +1 trait bonus together from different sources?

Can everyone let me know if they have a make-it-or-break-it-player-partnership in PM?

A lot of games die because players are sometimes upset that their friends weren’t chosen.  I’d like to avoid that, please.
