Pavement we use a lot here. Bin depends. Since we say recycling bin but not usually garbage bin here. But a lot of foods and things people just won't know and as I'm guilty of it myself people assume a word that is unfamiliar is just from the media they're consuming. Especially if you throw other terms in front of it like "Turbo." I was always used to the term Arclight Spanner and Samoflange without knowing Spanners or Flanges(The mechanical device) were realy things.

RobHumph

haha fair enough

Though I think it'll be fun messing around with the fact that Gav might just use a lot of British English words and curses. Part of the fun of having a lot of cultures. Also steal back the English stereotype from the Empire! We're not all evil!

Well I'm glad he's approved regardless. Interested to see all the other vagabonds we gather up.

Captain Whitebread

Personality: "A formal education did not prepare me for real life.  It taught me to pilot a ship and plot a course and calculate profit.  It did not teach me to compromise my morals in order to survive.  It did not teach me to fix things without the proper tools.  It did not teach me that, if I wanted to succeed, I needed to get up one more time than I was knocked down."

"It's only illegal if you get caught."

"Power will always belong to the powerful and their only concern is maintaining their position and increasing their power.  They do not see the rest of us as anything other than exploitable assets.    If we want anything, we need to take it for ourselves, from those that already have it.  Then we too can look down on the masses and feel superior."

Shaa Raa has been forced to endure things that he'd never imagines, so he has changed in ways he'd never thought possible.  Once carefree, he is now bordering on paranoid.  Once a risk taker, he now carefully considers the consequences of each action.  Where once he was generous, now he is self-serving.  One thing that hasn't changed is his stubborn pride.  He would rather suffer in squalor than contact his family to admit that he was unable to survive on his own away from home.

Surprisingly, despite his selfish nature, he's also quite social.  He has to be, because it's difficult to eat a discarded droid or speeder bike.  When required, Shaa Raa can call upon a great deal of charisma and has a gift for haggling.  He's been able to survive for four years by discovering who he can trust and who he cannot.  It's been a hard lesson but he's become quite good at it.
Dreams:
Return to his former degree of wealth without anyone's help.
Nightmares:
Having to contact his father in order to bail him out of some debt that is beyond his own ability to weasel out of.
Sinking so far into the beast's belly that he'll never come out.
Contacts:
Hundreds of contacts, both low level and mid, ranging from legitimate to black maket.  He has one or two higher level contacts that would not go out of their way for him but are more than willing to make money off his back.

History: Shaa Raa was the third son of a Kel Dor merchant wealthy enough to be able to afford his own ships.  Unlike his father, Shaa Raa was lazy.  Spoiled by his father's wealth, he spent his time gambling and carousing.  To teach his son a lesson, his father sent him out to learn his trade as a crewman on one of his ships.  After protesting to no avail, he left his parents and his sister behind and reluctantly shipped out on one of his father's ships.  Much to his own surprise, Shaa Raa took to space like a fish to water.  He quickly learned all aspects of the ship, from piloting to maintenance.  He showed a knack for dealing with people.  He might have followed in his father's footsteps except for a chance encounter.  After a successful trade mission, Shaa Raa fell back on old habits.  He was out carousing and, sure of victory in a game of chance, bet a year of his life against the pot.

He lost.

He spent a year serving essentially as a slave to the other gambler, a human rogue by the name of Akbar Sandford.  They traveled the galaxy and Shaa Raa learned more in that year than he had in all the years  previous.  His keen mind and nimble fingers absorbed everything Sandford taught him, whether he was helping him clean up at the gaming tables or how to use a blaster to protect his 'owner'.  When the year was over, Shaa Raa looked at Sandford and informed him that he would like to go home.

The human laughed.  "Then go," he said, knowing full well that Shaa Raa had no way of getting off the planet.

"How?" asked the Kel Dor.

"Not my problem," Sandford replied, turning to walk away.

Shaa Raa learned one other thing that day;  how it felt to kill a man who had been using him for a year, all the while pretending to be his friend.

It's been four years from that day.  Shaa Raa is too proud to ask his father for the money to book passage home.   He's been scraping by, winning enough to keep himself alive and supplied with the breathing filters he needs to live.  He's been scavenging, rebuilding droids and vehicles.  He's not sure now that he wants to go home.  He's been living in the belly of the beast so long that he's starting to enjoy it.  He still wants wealth, however... LOTS of wealth.

One thing is for certain; Shaa Raa is never going to let anyone use him against his will ever again.  It won't stop him from using others.  In fact one of his goals is to earn enough to be able to afford a set of Twi'lek twins or maybe a pair of Togruta.    Surprisingly, he's sided against the Empire that encourages the slave trade he seeks to use as a mark of his success.  His reasoning is simple:  He's not one of them.  As a non-human, he's considered a second class citizen and, coming from the wealth and privilege he once enjoyed, that is something he will simply not tolerate.

False Identities: Not so much a false identity but rather an abandoned one.

Attributes:
- Charismatic
-Ruthless
- Honest
-Loyal (although he'd never admit it)
-Cynical & Suspicious
Knowledge Skills:
- Piloting (Space and Speeder) - by no means a professional degree of skill
-Navigation - by no means a professional degree of skill
- Small Arms - more skilled than average but by no means a soldier
- Melee Combat - more skilled than average but by no means a soldier
-Logistics - highly skilled
- Negotiations/Haggling - highly skilled
-Gambling - Skilled
- Engineering (Ships, Weapons and Droids) - professional degree of skill
Languages:
- Galactic basic
- Kel Dor
- Understands most common alien languages but only speaks the two above.  He uses a vocalizer to translate his words into languages he can't speak, like Wookie or Trandoshan.

Additional:Major Strengths: Bloodied but unbowed (Strong Willed)  Shaa Raa has been through hell and has emerged from the other side.  He knows he can survive anything.

Been there, done that  (Spacer)  Shaa Rass has been trained to fill almost any role on a star freighter, whether it is pilot, navigator, engineer or cargo master.  He's no gunner, however.  He's also been dragged through the underbelly of a hundred worlds and he's learned to figure out if he can trust somebody very quickly.

Minor Strengths: I know a guy, who knows a guy... (Well connected)  If it is available on the black market, Shaa Raa can usually tell you where to find it or who to ask

But wait, there's more! (Haggling)  Shaa Raa has learned the art of the hard bargain and prides himself on always getting a good deal

Minor Weaknesses: Hiding from Family: (Estranged) Shaa Raa does not want his family knowing how far he's fallen and will not ask them for help, even in the most dire circumstances.  He'd rather suffer than admit he was incapable of handling himself.

Gambling:  (There's a Game On) Gambling got Shaa Raa into this mess.  It occasionally helps keep him there.  He's a good gambler but not as good as he thinks he is.
Major Weaknesses: Life Support:  All Kel Dor require a very specific atmosphere.  They will suffocate in an oxygen/nitrogen atmosphere.
Not a Team Player: (Out For Himself)  Shaa Raa isn't the most trust worthy of people.  If he feels he'll gain more by selling a secret told in confidence or learned through eavesdropping than by keeping it, he'll sell it to the highest bidder.

I just realized no one has put contacts yet on their sheets. Contacts are something you get to create at character creation and more will be added over the course of the RP.

Captain does this character have redeeming qualities? Because he seems very morally black. There are no mentioned positive aspects of his personality and I kind of want to avoid strictly evil characters as is mentioned. His living situation also seems really expensive for living in a remote unprotected area. In general things need more elaboration and descriptions. Pictures are fine aids but don't replace descriptions of things unless you can just list what model something is if it isn't OC.

Captain Whitebread

He's very morally grey.  Not outright evil but certainly self serving.

He's learned not to trust the hard way but if you win his loyalty he does things he regrets, like risk his life for you.

I left the contacts rather vague because I've no idea where/what exactly we'll be doing in the game. So I just wrote that he knew a few customs officials and that can be used wherever/whenever is needed.

Stripped out the pics, added some redeeming qualities.

Was there anything specific you needed more elaboration on?

So is Gavin approved or is the tally on the first thread going to remain the ever so lonesome 0?

Ollumhammersong

I think i'm going to have to back out of this. Good luck and I hope everyone has fun
Hi i'm a polymorphic alien who has taken the form of this signiature to have sex with your pupils, and by the smile on your face I can tell your enjoying it.

Tolvo

Sorry currently having a bit of a crisis here so things have been hectic and it's hard to focus. Gav looks good.

Captain I was saying the pics aren't a problem but what they need is a bit of description of just what kind of blasters and things they are. Since heavy blaster is very broad. The sort of power they have, just a bit more detail. Doesn't have to be a paragraph but maybe a line or two to just get a better picture.

Heavy blaster pistols were basically cut-down blaster rifles, utilizing a more highly powered gas chamber, firing larger, more damaging bolts with a wider beam. Though bulkier and heavier than a standard blaster pistol, the heavy blaster's advantage was firepower. It had the destructive power of a blaster rifle without the longer range that a rifle typically provided. The power pack was generally the same size as a standard pistol and was consumed at a considerably higher rate than a typical blaster pistol. Due to the weapon's formidable power it was heavily restricted in most systems if not entirely illegal.

Are you looking for something like that (cut and pasted from Wookieepedia)?  Or were you looking for me to list a specific model?
There are nights when the wolves are silent and it the moon that howls.

Tolvo

I meant specific to the model.

Hopefully the crisis is over now. Kind of trying to just calm down and relax now.

EDIT: You don't have to use a canon model if you want you can create one. I just want like a basic description like does it have stun, how hard does it hit, fire rate, size, is it legal, etc. Doesn't have to be too detailed just enough to get the point across.

Captain Whitebread

Gotcha.

I will dig through Wookieepedia for some decent descriptions.

Long Story short-

Blaster he carries on his hip is you typical sidearm, pretty much as generic as they come.  Average fire rate, average damage, average stun capacity.  The Star Wars equivalent of a .45 Colt Peacemaker.  Legal unless it is illegal

Heavy blaster - as in the previous post, high powered and illegal.  It's a killing weapon, not one you use to stun your prey.  .50 caliber Desert Eagle.

Sporting Blaster - light fast and concealable.  One step up from a hold out blaster, it's a 'Saturday Night Special', like .38 snub nose revolver.

So I'm going to presume at this point that nothing is happening with this at all? It's a shame, it sounded like a good campaign idea and I was looking forward to pratting around with Gav

Well... I guess I came/didn't late to this party. :(

And here I wanted to be a star wars character.
