Does Eliquiy Have A Furry Community?
« on: December 22, 2018, 11:38:38 pm »
I've already been here a while but I'm still a bit ignorant about getting around.

So, my question is: Is there a Furry Community around here? And, if there is, how do I join up?

I don't know that there's like a furry community exactly. There are definitely furries, and there are art finders thread for furry stuff. And people can do RP's with furries and furry-like characters(Most things with aliens/species other than human can end up falling under this category. Bothan and Cathar from Star Wars are just straight up anthro animal species for example).

I'm not in the community at large but I'm furry adjacent. I see it come up sometimes and people just usually don't make a fuss about it. Some might not want it in their RP's but that's about it.

I see, thank you. I'm actually kinda curious as to what furries in Elliquiy is like as I'm both world-building and making an Ironclaw 2e which many consider to be a furry RP. I'm actually new to this kind of thing and this is mostly unheard of in my culture so I wanted to find out more before actually diving into the issue.

For instance, do you think furries of Elliquiy have their own rules or do they just follow the general rules of Elliquiy?

Well everyone has to follow the rules of E, though people may have their own views on etiquette and things.

And if you wanted, I haven't seen one but maybe it's just old and unused, you could probably make a furry thread. Maybe staff would have a good idea on where, but On Topic is where I usually see threads for people of a certain community that can have adult content, and isn't LGBTQIA+ related(We have our own section for that).

Not sure how many would identify as a furry, but there is a significant number of people here who sometimes like to write fluffy charas or write against them. And an equally large portion that might like to try it out sometime. There is no real community around it here though as far asI'm aware.

I identify as a furry, though I'm not part of the wider furry community outside of E. Sain is correct, there's no real furry community here, just those who write furry characters or post furry art in F&S. :>

Yeah there are finders threads for furry women, and for furry men. I have mine which is more my specific things but also includes nonbinary and female anthro characters. And there are the monster threads. You can usually tell by people's avatars if they are if they outwardly identify that way(Though Theta Sigma's isn't. While mine on the other hand look I'm not technically a furry I just identify heavily with fish ladies shut up look a distraction).

The Old Cobra Lobbyist looks at the bottle of coconut vodka in the fish lady's fin...

He licks his scaly lips with his forked tongue thirstily...

Oops! My Fursona (Scalesona?) took over there for a moment with your distraction!

Anyway thank you and thank you too Theta!

What is a finder thread? Is that like a request thread, an art thread, or is that like a thread from the RP Registry?

I would like to see an RP Registry thread for folks willing to play as/with anthros, at least.

Finders and Seekers Section

Threads in that section.

As for a registry it sounds like a fine idea, people who play monsters might also have some overlap there.

Seems a bit more niche than a regular furry community.

Considering the size of the furry fandom in general, perhaps, as a suggestion, it'd be worth it for staff to consider making a board for furries and furry-related interests under "General Sexiness"? It seems like there might be a crowd large enough for it to make sense. I think I've known at least a dozen furry partners, and while I don't call myself a furry per say (I guess I've never considered it) I do as or opposite a lot of characters that'd probably be classified as such.

The BDSM community is another very large community that sort of lacks a home in the form of a board where such topics can be discussed and interests shared I feel.

Just some food for thought! I personally think it'd be nice to see some more of the big adult communities represented in a more official capacity. It'd be a good way for people with shared interests to more readily socialize. :)

Edit: To clarify - I think it'd be nice if there were some boards dedicated to these large communities where people can come in and talk, share interests and ask questions in the same way as other community-based boards, but public.

Thanks!

There is some overlap, but I even asked the person who put the Monster thread together and they said no, furries don't count.

Might be a good idea to start it out as a thread for people to congregate in then if it grows large enough then maybe consider it's own section.

Or perhaps a poll to see if there's enough interest to warrant it?

I think a single thread would get really crowded and hard to follow if you wanted to discuss a specific topic. I'd say that the level of activity in this thread alone is a good indication that there'd be some buzz around the idea. :)

Oh no. I was just offering it as a place to potential seek people who might write those types of stories.

I agree.  :)

A comment appears to have disappeared but I do see why it would be mainly viewed for Pet Play. I couldn't really think of an umbrella term to fit both furry/pet play. Maybe they are too different to be placed together. xD Either way, I'm sorry if my offering caused offense. I hope you find what you're looking for. You can always create a brand new searching thread that is furry search specific.

I too think there ought to be at least a subforum for BDSM and Furry. You know, I could also see a board dedicated to folks who are into fandom canon play/fanfic in general.

Anyone wanna pitch that to E?

Setting up sections can take a long time and effort and activity is required for it. Look at the LGBTQIA+ section, which is actually an openly larger portion of E as far as I can see than the furry community here and it has activity but is not as active as many other boards. This would be for a community with less presence and activity currently. So a thread would be a good starting point and see where it goes from there, and you can attach a poll to the thread as well. As well there are many huge furry RP sites so furries are often drawn specifically to those, though more furry presence could bring more furries here who want this specific community and quality as well as things that aren't strictly furry. And in the end it depends on what the staff and Veks want to do with their site regarding sections and their importance. For instance sections for specific groups typically are broader larger identities based on gender and sexuality with large communities that members will be a part of, while furries are common they're not as common as various genders for instance.

Regarding BDSM there sort of is in Finders threads you find discussions on specific kinks that the threads are about.

I frankly have no idea how long it would take to make a board or what kind of work is involved - I'm merely suggesting it as something to consider as a future feature. I just think that there are probably enough people who fall under those two umbrellas (being interested in furry-culture and BDSM) that it might warrant a place where people can share their interests. I think there are probably so many people interested in that sort of thing that a single thread would be nigh impossible to follow. It's difficult to have conversations among a few individuals in a thread where there might be dozens of people discussing other topics. :P

I can't be certain on how hard it is to do on E with how it is set up and I don't know their specific conditions and many things, but early posts in the LGBTQIA+ section for instance mention it taking a lot of behind the scenes work from staff. And from my experience as an admin or staff member on other sites there are many things to consider(Certain ones staff may want to keep secret which is understandable). It is not a simple task typically if you want to do it well and can take a very long time and sometimes it ends up fruitless because it was a feature you set up that there wasn't much of an audience for in your community.

I'm not against the idea, but a thread can help show if those people are numerous and interested in such things. Kind of like a proof of concept. As of yet I'm not sure if there are any reliable numbers or ideas on how many furries are on E. BDSM also is not the same as being a furry so those are very different concepts. BDSM as well is frequent throughout E's many boards(It is an 18+ site after all).

Never mind how easy or hard it might be - is there a viable interest in it to justify the resource strain a subboard  puts on the server? There is a reason we have Big Groups have a post minimum.

I suggest going to the social bits of the middle column (On Topic, Adult Socialising even Finders and Seekers) and starting up threads there to find and connect with other furries. Let us Staffers see you, have a visable and active portion of the site. I can't promise anything but what we look for when we make new social nooks is activity. It is how F&S, RLD and many other subgroups came to be.

^ Very much this(Though I was unsure on the server part, since I don't know the ins and outs of how E is actually hosted, all the tech side, etc).

Contributing to the message: I'm a furry (although haven't been to events in ages, as the local contingent isn't as "in my wheelhouse" as they used to be). I have it mentioned in my O/Os. I don't go out of my way to seek furry-specific games, though, because it's just one facet of who I am, not a major/dominant facet.

If there were a furry-specific subforum, I probably wouldn't participate in it much, but I certainly wouldn't object to its existence.

I think I have to second this notion. I don't openly advertise as identifying as a furry, and probably wouldn't ever post in there. Sometimes I connect with another on the site, it's nice, but I've never been involved in the wider community much. Many of em out there are a little too much for me sometimes. It's just one facet of me.

To be fair, I wasn't suggesting that they were the same, but that they are two significant communities that might desire a way to communicate with other more easily. :)

I feel like a thread would just discourage participation because of the chaos that is trying to have a lot of different conversations all at once, all within one thread. I, personally, do not like to participate in social threads for this very reason - I frankly can't keep up with them, and more often than not stuff just gets lost or you miss other people's posts, etc. ^^'

Never mind how easy or hard it might be - is there a viable interest in it to justify the resource strain a subboard  puts on the server? There is a reason we have Big Groups have a post minimum.

To reiterate, it was just a suggestion. Not everyone has any idea what kind of strain it puts on the site or the server. ^^' If it's totally nonviable then I guess it is what it is.
