Normal CPU / GPU temperatures for gaming?
« on: November 24, 2018, 05:53:11 am »
So, yesterday, I bought myself Shadow of the Tomb Raider game.

The game runs nicely - as it should, as my PC is actually above the "recommended" configuration. Still, I noticed something that got me a little puzzled: the CPU and GPU temperatures. When I'm playing, the CPU temperature is around 75 - 80 C and the GPU is around 60 C.

Is this normal? I've been out of the gaming loop for some time and I honestly don't know whether these are normal temperatures for modern chipsets when running games?

It depends on the CPU. Most Intel processors have an 'absolute max' of around 100C. 80 is higher than most would like but OK for most gaming Intel chips. 60 degrees for the GPU seems to be about right.

60c is fine for a gpu, great, even. My GPU (A 760 so it's old admittedly), runs around 80-83c on games like Monster hunter world and Total warhammer 2.
80c cpu for a cpu is not... Great but it's not bad. What's the brand/chip? Like Vekseid said, if it's intel as long as it's not peaking over 90c it'll be fine. You may want to look into an aftermarket cooler if you want it chillier.

My CPU is Intel i7-7700... Not sure if it's a gaming CPU, but it should be relatively strong...

Regarding the temps: I keep checking the CAM application while playing and it's not like the CPU is always over 80 C... It fluctuates and it's usually around 70 - 75 C. But, occassionally, one of the four cores hits 80 C.

I admit I'm not entirely trusting CAM on this, though. It keeps displaying some false messages, like that my CPU fan is not working. It's definitely not true...
