Cyberpunk setting - What makes a person? (MxF)

This is a plot I'd like to flesh out. This is the base for something to bloom into a bigger story. Primarily romantic themes.

Zeza, while his appearance has changed to fit the times and he is living in a city with a melting pot of races he has a personal issue with synthetic lifeforms.

During his time he had found a woman and they were happy for a time but he grew selfish, jealous and it drove her away. She had left him for an android/synth. This was part of the reason for his disdain for the synthetic ones, as he never saw them as real people to begin with. With this loss he was wounded, to lose his love to a man who wasn't even real? It was simply to much to bear as it crippled his heart and pride.

Years later, still having this bigoted mindset, he finds out that a woman has taken interest in him. She is a synthetic being, and despite his old world view she wants to get closer to him and know him below the scowl and sour mood.
