Oh, she's neat! I don't think I've ever seen a swarm druid played/designed before.

I like her philosophy. :)
My current O/os (need work)

Roleplay Frog

*flexes* I thought about going down the augment-superior summoning route or going all in with evolve familiar, but got bored and picked more on character allrounder feats instead. I see her as support. Rat-support.
You need a rat? She got your back.

OyabunKobold

I like her too. I might go about making my own character sheet as well and working on getting my character transplanted over.

Fortunately, our kobolds R SMRT and will not think to themselves, "Hey, free RATions!"

Conundrum

Quote from: OyabunKobold on August 31, 2018, 04:53:29 PM
Little kobolds as the grunts and Dragonborn as the elites with the occasional half dragon lord or lady?

Imagining the kobold roll in most courts before I see it as a sort of general servant type thing.  Like if two larger territories go against each other they make a spectacle of it with lots of pageantry, so you have an adult blue dragon and an adult copper dragon marching their standing guard of dragonborn through the city gates to show off their wealth and strength to the populace before meeting up with levied forces and mercenaries on the way to where the expect to encounter opposition.  On the battlefield you have races like humans, elves, and dwarves, levied up as light infantry, pike blocks, archers, and cavalry, some races like orcs or centaur tribes provide some specialists like shock infantry and horse archers, while at the core is the mighty dragonborn heavy infantry.  Clad in heavy armor that is edged in blue or copper with greatswords held at attention the dragonborn even bring their own support as noble dragonborn sorcerers standing among the infantry blocks.  Meanwhile kobolds may be some light infantry skimishes used to scout or harass an enemy but are mostly back at camp.

Some are camp guards but most are simply maintaining it as part of the baggage train and camp following.  Before battle they squire for the dragonborn shining their armor so they may be best scene in battle earning honor and glory for their patron.  All manner of tasks are taken up by the kobolds from cooking and cleaning to caring for beast of burden, or even guarding the dragon's harem.  You do not want a bunch of strong virile dragonborn guarding your harem and kobolds are good enough to know how to hold a spear so simply enlist a handful of female kobolds to guard your female concubines and some males for your males.

When the goblins brought the fight from underground this setup doesn't work.  You cannot siege a mountain, you cannot strafe a mountain with fire, and even specialists like dwarves would need to forge larger tunnels than the goblins use.  Suddenly it came down to the kobolds and other small races to hold the line and take the fight to the goblins and their subterranean nation.  The goblins favored tactic to kill breachers was barbed and hoked polearms, striking out from their holes they would drag prey into kill grounds where groups of goblins would together kill foes who entered one at a time unable to fight back.  The small races were able to infiltrate though or come in fighting.  Kobold Steel Scales became among the most elite of the kobold forces.  Armored head to toe and with heavy shields they took point into the tunnels where goblin resistance was known fighting through the generally lighter armed goblins to create beachheads for more kobolds to stream in behind.

Naturally the goblins were not stagnant and developed ways to fight this, oil and fire were lethal to all in a tunnel as even fire resistant kobolds needed to breath the air the fire was burning away.  Heavy crossbows saw some use against other races firing from murder holes into enemies attempting a breach but against the Steel Scales they were among the most potent weapons allowing them to fill narrow passages with bolts of steel meant to pierce the plate, scale, and hides of intruders.  Over the course of the war continual adaptions were made to tactics such as the various infiltrators trained and used by both sides to bypass thick defensive positions.

With the immediate war past for the moment the kobolds find themselves in an interesting position, technically they have driven back the goblins from the positions they initially held and so have gained some status they are still well below other dragon kind and with a potentially changing role are now viewed differently by the dragonborn.  Having truly proven themselves able to hold the line in battler they have earned the respect of these mighty warriors, they have also earned their attention though.  The dragonborn do not see them as equals but they do now see them as someone who can compete for their role.  For the militant dragonborn who live to fight and serve replacement is not an option.

<Kobold history in the last war omitted for brevity>

I like this. I like this a lot. It somewhat skews the background that OK and I were discussing, but we won't need to tweak too much. How many years since the war 'ended'?

Oooh nice backstory ideas. I have a background skeleton atm so ill fiddle with it.

oh darn thats what I forgot Bear traps

Best scene in a game was in a home game. Our party was traipsing through an urban dungeon where a gnoll crime lord was smuggling in black powder to arm his kobold henchmen. So naturally htere were a lot of traps and use of torches was ill-advised. Our self-appointed leader, the tense, taciturn, SRS BZNS elf magus, decided to take point, what with his vision being pretty good in the dark.

Not good enough to notice tripwires, though.

Dude sets off the tripwire, and the DM describes this amazing rube goldberb setup of ball bearings, levers, pulleys, and such that culminates in a bear trap on a chain falling from the ceiling straight onto this guy's head. it also sets off numerous flares, which calls the the gang in for battle!

Then hte chain retracts.

So our magus is kicking and screaming, hanging form the ceiling like a pinata, leavign our gunslinger, our VERY poorly-optimized sorcerer/cleric, and me, the party's centaur bard to handle the threat.

What issues are made with existing backgrounds?  I can still make changes.

Chanticleer

It's no big deal!

Usually, you know, you have to explain why your kobolds aren't part of a tribe somewhere dug under a dragon's den. So we'd sort of discussed that. But the setting you've come up with doesn't require us to worry about all that.

it wasn't an issue we were more trying to think of how we would explain the reason two twin brother kobolds are away from their Tribe and family. We no longer need to explain that as much as before because there wouldn't need to be a seperation from the family.

So its not perfect in the slightest but I can use it. This is my Character sheet plopped over from Mythweavers to something more Legible. Itll look a bit odd Until Chant and I can sort out backstories a bit more and then Personality will be updated at that time as well.

Not sure what i'm making exactly - I'm leaning towards the "tank" end of the spectrum, or at least the "has a D10+ HD" area.

The rats are not for eating. Who'd even think of such cruelty!
They are for throwing them at any enemies that come close. BTW, open to suggestions for combing rats and bear traps somehow.

I'm decently tanky myself.. well.. moderatly tanky, but I got rats for days to help at least busy folks. Heal or support could work too.
