This is a learning moment.  There are two ways to skin  . . oh wait, check that.  Let us say the lesson is that one need not do it as others do.  Results can be obtained in different ways.  All cats and kittens are cool.  (Smile).  And I'm sure everyone observed how I compressed Poet Cat's verse, but stayed true to her art. (I just hope shop cat is chill or I can find some catnip).

Anyone trying to skin a cat better remember that cats naturally come with sharp, skin ripping objects 'to hand' or 'to paw' as it were  >:)

Fortunately, this cat is chill, even in these temperatures  O:)

So, I was doing some coding and thought I'd share a trick I don't think I've seen here yet.

Anchors!

Linking to a location within a post instead of a whole post.

The tags used are:

[link=keyword you make up]  [/link]

and then to match, you wrap these around some spot in the post you want to link to:

[anch=the keyword you made up for the link tag] [/anch]

The top one shows up as a link, and when you click it you're moved to the anchored spot.

For a demonstration, see the first 4 links at the top of this post compared to the last two links on that list (who link to other threads). The first ones take you to spots within that long first post.

Good for making info in long posts accessible!

I'm exhausted so I'm just going to let you know that I completed my Ons Offs and Characters.  It's here: https://elliquiy.com/forums/index.php?topic=290686.0  And it's thanks for all the friendly tutorials in the shop.

I'll snazz this post up when I'm recovered.  (Smile).

Jaclyn

Thanks Ames!. Useful in large posts like the one you reference. I considered using them on my Os/Os page and opted instead for multiple posts instead of one big post. Design decision.

Nicely done Steffy! The doctor recommends adult beverages, your mileage may vary.

Still, actually. more exhausted.  Can anyone figure how I have a hanging /b in the James Jameson name,

Madame Chat

Ames for your anchoring I award thee:

                                     One size fits all (hopefully)

KC.  I was designated to make the award, the idea being that the Shop Poet might still be unsettled from when the faux teacher made a faux pas.

Steffy, since I can't quote your post to actually see the coding, suggestion. (I use Google Chrome browser though I recall you're on a Mac and Safari is no longer available for Windows.) Modify your post. Then do a Find. Ctrl-F works in Chrome and also in the old Safari 5.1.7. In the search box, enter b]. Note that this will find both and . Look for unmatched pairs, probably a followed next by a .

Jaclyn: good memory.  Yep, I'm a Mac girl. I didn't think of the search idea; I was just eyeballing it.  (Eye strain!).  Courtney volunteered to look after I PMd her.  I'd say hold off on anyone else looking into this further.  I'll bet Courtney gets it and if not, I'll re-engage tomorrow early morn!

Courtney

Found it! Just had a [*b][*/b] surrounding nothing but code. Just messed up the ordering a bit.

Got rid of those to make it look like this, and it worked fine, (in my pm preview window anyway):

Note: this was just the small chunk of code that was causing the problem.

Jaclyn, for one of the many things you’ve done (everyone guess), I award thee:

Border Collie – ‘Borders’

AND the world is a bbbbbbbbbbbetter place.  Thanks to Courtney’s catch of Steffy’s errant *B* coding.  (Yay!  No more hanging code on O/Os).  So Courtney, I award thee:

World Made Better By All Who Care

p.s. Jaclyn is responsible for keeping the peace between Magic Shop Cat and Borders.

Flower

No tips. Just leaving hugs. xD

De nada Steffy. Been doing IT helpdesk free since HAL invented PCs. #Giggle

So now that you have your Os/Os written, how about a simple signature to link to them. Here's one with no images so nothing further to do except go put it in.

[abbr="Os/Os and Characters"]YOU CAN  ASK, BUT …[/abbr]

What's in there? Well, I preserved the original Steffy siggy YOU CAN  ASK, BUT … except I replaced the faux ellipses ". . ." with a real ellipses "…" and then wrapped that like an abbreviation so that folks know that asking will take you to Os/Os and Characters, then linked the whole thing to Os/Os, and centered it.

Hugs are always appreciated, dear Flower. Bises to you too. (I learned bises yesterday after wishing my French cousins a happy Bastille day and got back bises.

Flower

Oooh! A French tip. I learned something. <3 I hope you had fun.

Since I’ve been teasing Courtney way to much, I must turn to Flower, after thanking her for her latest, and say Flower I award thee:

French Tip – Typo Award
Once an award for typo is made it would be bad form to edit ‘french’ to ‘fresh’.  Yes, I’ve chosen to believe that Flower meant fresh not ‘French’.  (EDIT: LOL!!!!! I just read this post again.  'teasing Courtney way to much'--too, too rich! I did not change the original other than place this edit here.)

In the by-the-by category (or who cares Steffy?), I’m planning on getting the signature going with the coding everyone has helped with (latest Jaclyn), but I may get the CGDA under construction for the signature to guide to the three areas.

Jaclyn

Hey Steffy, in your Os/Os, you might want to end each of the character's portions with [clearleft]
. The [clearleft] terminates the float for the picture and the
puts in a horizontal line to divide one from the next.

One thing I try to keep in mind is that the browser window people see depends a lot on what device they're using. A PC or Mac with a big screen is different from a laptop with a 13" screen is different from a 7" tablet is different from a smart phone.

Oh Lordy!  Sage advice Jaclyn!  I did not take the formatting/computer screen issue into account.  Well, that’s now on the to-do list, but it’s not on today’s to-do list.  PLUS I just found out if you 'block' a selection, you can then choose font and size from the screen above and it codes it properly for you.  (Steffy's the baby step learner.  Other magicians are making the Statue of Liberty disappear or performing other equally great feats of magicianship.)

Kit Cat

Your O&O's look great Steffy...gave me the kick I needed to finally sort out my own O&O's and Poetry Board Thread, though its scary to realise how many stories I've landed myself in already lol!

As far as borders goes, the magic shop cat will try to control her urges, she purrromises!

And just for kicks *gives everyone big Sunday hugs and wishes people well for the rest of the day!*

Another tip I just ran across - a great banner/word generator that has many fonts, effects, and styles - all which save with transparent backgrounds. I redid all my thread headers with it today. :D

Example:

Here is the website I used but they have many options down the right hand side for other fonts beyond 'fancy' ones: https://fontmeme.com/fancy-fonts/

that perches in the soul -
and sings the tune without the words -
and never stops - at all" ~ Emily Dickinson
