It is a time of Galactic strife and warfare, as the Empire fights furiously to keep its Iron-clad grip upon the Galaxy, to establish an order that will last a thousand years, while the Valiant forces of the Rebel Alliance works tirelessly to free the Galaxy from the tyranny of Emperor Palpatine and bring back freedom and democracy. Countless battles erupt, on worlds both great and small, soldiers on both sides fight and die in the various sectors of the Galaxy as two sides wage war to decide the very soul of the galaxy. It is a time when a Young Luke Skywalker has just received two strange droids that would set him on his path with destiny.

Yet, in the background of all this, another war is about to play out. A war that would decide the fate of the Galaxy. A threat looms like a plague of locusts over the galaxy, staring with envious eyes at this oasis in the middle of a lifeless universe. With less than noble intentions, they slowly take their first initial steps into Imperial space, and begin devouring. Coming in from the enigmatic "Unknown Region" on the edge of Civilized space, no one has ever seen anything like them before. No one knows how to fight them, or if they even can be fought. They only know that this horror from beyond only leaves death in its wake. The only thing standing between the nightmare, and a free strike deep into the Empire, is a small, undermanned, and ill equipped Garrison of Imperials.

Whenever one thought of the Empire and its seemingly endless manpower reserves, they never thought of the few among them who truly believed in the cause, who set out to make the galaxy a better place. They would only think of the jackbooted thugs who oppressed all and pushed the Emperor's cruel policies. The faceless storm troopers and the screaming Tie fighters soaring overhead. They would easily forget that people were under those masks.

People who had lovers, families, who experienced pain, joy, who all joined the Empire for a menagerie of reasons. Some to escape from poverty or strife on their homeworld, others tired of living under the yoke of an alien oppressor and wished to see humanity hold the chain for once. Others out of a desire to do good in the universe, to strike back against the pirates, smugglers, slavers, who ran rampant while the old Republic dithered about, arguing over what color to paint the ceiling rather than fixing the galaxy. Some just joined to fight and kill without being punished for it, while some truly saw no better alternative for the galaxy than the order the Empire promised, or to even change it from within and make the Empire something to respect, rather than to fear.

Whatever their reasons for doing so, they all enlisted to serve and fight for the Empire, and its Emperor. They signed their lives away and slapped on their armor or uniforms when they woke up in the morning. Inevitable they all found themselves sent to the most backwater sector in the Empire, far from any real source of action and from any chance of earning themselves a real shot at recognition. Some are there as a punishment, others by choice, and some by simple bad luck. It matters not how or why they ended up there, what matters is the role they would play in keeping the galaxy safe. Like a shining wall of glistening Plastisteel armor, they will hold their sector, no matter the cost.

These few imperials will do the impossible, and stall the greatest threat the galaxy has ever seen. Something far crueler than the old Sith empire and with greater plans for conquest than even Emperor Palpatine himself. Something much much older, to which even a sarlacc or Rancor would spit right back out in disgust.

In this rare case, these jackbooted thugs, oppressors of the people, and destroyers of democracy, they were the heroes. And yet their songs will not be sung, their names will never be remembered, and no one will be making holovids or dolls of these few, Rebels, and Imperials, who stood like a wall against a Tsunami.

Against the horror encroaching on their sector, that promised no mercy, no quarter, only to make the oceans of every world run red with blood, against this only the Empire truly had the strength to stop them and halt their advance. In this one moment, they were the true heroes.

Idea for this story:

On the outer fringes of the Galaxy near the Unknown Region, an Imperial Garrison goes about its daily duties of maintaining order in this part of the galaxy, not that much needs to be done in their barely populated region. But they still go about the daily grind and do what they can to hold back the madness that came with constant, unending, tedium.  Inspecting Freighters coming into, and out of, the Sector for contraband or Rebels (And rebel sympathizers). Hunting down Pirates, and Criminal organizations whenever they pop up. Stamping out any sign of the Rebellion trying to take root and doing the same patrols over and over again. It is a boring, and tedious Job with little reward, but someone had to do it.

Though the Imperials start to notice strange errors in their communications, small at first, but quickly increasing. Transmissions were not able to leave the sector, despite how much power they put into the transmitters or how much maintenance they did on their communication arrays. Adding to this, several Imperial Raiders have gone missing. The Higher up's first thought was that it was an act by the Rebellion, seeking to cut them off and isolate them from the rest of the Empire.

If only it were so easy. But the Imperials will discover that it is something far worse. Even the cruelest of rebels don't massacre entire villages, mutilating the corpses and putting them up on display where anyone could see them. Soon those who once spat on the Empire are now screaming for their help. Their terror filled voices only coming through in garbled transmissions.

This story will center around this imperial garrison that only has two first generation Imperial Class-Star Destroyers along with a handful of Victory Class, and Gladiator Class Star Destroyers. Smaller Imperial Raider Class Corvettes speeding along with TIE fighters, Interceptors, and Bombers. Storm Troopers, AT-STs, and AT-ATs patrolling on sparsely populated worlds. This is, hands down, the worst assignment in the galaxy and everyone finds that very quickly.  for some it is used as a punishment, for others it is just to get them out of the way. As such the Imperials resources are limited, and their enemy feels infinite. Even with their resources, the Imperial Garrison won't be able to stand against the oncoming tide. They're gonna have to ally themselves with their Opposing faction in the system to beat back the horde. I'm thinking Either the Rebel contingent, Pirates/Criminals etc.

The Leader of the opposing Faction would be The Female Love interest. I would like to find a Non-Human species. Perhaps what Race Ahsoka Tano is, or perhaps a Original Race.

There will be friction as the two sides that vehemently oppose each other are forced to work together to beat back the enemy. The Imperials would have the heavy hitting "Tanks" that can soak up the damage, but re not fast nor very maneuverable. While the Opposing Faction (Rebels/Pirates/Etc) would have the faster, more manuverable ships that can't hit as hard, but can harass the larger capitol ships while engaging the smaller corvettes.

Tech wise, the Latest adn Greatest rarely if ever appear in this sector. Since the Location is very remote and essenially Non stratgetic. Neither the Imperials, nor Rebel High command sees any need to have large assets in the area. The Imperials are there to ensure the Systems stay in line with an imperial presence while the Rebels have a presence there simply to keep the Imperials from gaining too much of a foot hold. A tenuous balance using older tech.
