Author Topic: Fairy Tale Heroes...with Superpowers?! ('Avengers Grimm' - Still Accepting)  (Read 957 times)

Do you like superheroes? Do you like fairy tales? Then this is the place for you! The idea is based on one of the most unexpected movies I've ever seen, Avengers Grimm, which I believe is still available on Netflix or in the $5 bargain bin at Walmart. It was made by The Asylum so if you know anything about them, it will either intrigue the hell out of you or put you off like nobody's business. The film itself is actually not half bad, all things considered, but it's more the core concept that I want to borrow for this game. Here's some more details if you're curious about the movie:

Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide

So if that cover reels you in, here is the factual information:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4296026/?ref_=nv_sr_4
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avengers_Grimm

I'm sure everyone here is familiar with things like Once Upon a Time, or Fables, etc., things that blend multiple different fairy tale stories and characters into a united story. This idea is a bit more large-scale in that it incorporates stories and legends from all across the globe and history (up to around the time where technology is at the point where the industrial revolution hasn't yet started, so no engines for trains or steamboats; this means some of the American 'tall tales' are ineligible to appear). It also differs in that each major character is going to be something of a superhero, with abilities they may not have possessed in their stories, or if they did, more refined versions of them. Their abilities may not be their own, perhaps they simply wield enchanted or specialized artifacts, but they still use something extraordinary to live up to the legends of their names.

Sound fun? I hope so! The story will center around a great evil emerging from one of the four major continents of this world (I'm hoping someone good with image editing can help a brother out and assist in creating a master copy of the world map for use in this and other games) that are separated by an X-shaped body of water. Rumplestiltskin, a former djinn obsessed with power and ruthlessly evil, has declared his intentions to conquer the known world now that he has been freed from his servitude, and it is up to those blessed with the power to oppose his might to fight back and keep the world free, while those who share the dark one's wicked ambitions may choose to join him for a share of the spoils. Those who are uncertain may not have that luxury for long once he crosses their threshold and demands they capitulate or die, while those of comparable power may simply view him as an annoyance and oppose him simply out of arrogance, there is really no way to stay neutral in a battle for the very soul of the entire world.

So, if you're interested, let your voice be heard! Submit a profile to claim a character before someone else does. Just try to be somewhat reasonable with the powers your character has, like using an ability that has some connection to their name, the name of their story, the content of the story, etc. For example, in the film, SNOW White can conjure up objects made of ice, and Sleeping Beauty can generate bursts of sleeping powder from her hands. But there's lots of room for creativity! And feel free to gender-swap and orientation-flip established characters to suit your taste, it's all good. Don't be shy about tweaking their backstory from their usual telling, either, to help your character's powers (and whether they're good or evil, too) fit with however you're deciding to play them.

One note about magic, just to help categorize things a bit; there are three major classifications of the kinds of abilities characters and objects wield, namely Transfiguration, Conjuring and Enchantment. Transfiguration is the simplest, involving the alteration of shape or size of one or more objects, whether alive or inanimate. Things like shapeshifting into a werewolf, or the Fairy Godmother's power from Cinderella are of that ilk. Conjuring is the ability to summon objects, beings or energy out of thin air, in limited or unlimited quantities. Shooting energy beams or summoning a cloud to ride on like Sun Wukong are some of these, as well as creating golems or zombies. And lastly, Enchantment simply involves imbuing beings or objects with properties that are not customarily attributed to them. Giving oneself stone skin or super speed, or enabling something to float or fly, are in this camp. If whatever ability you wish to give your character doesn't seem to fit any of these three, let me know so we can try to work it into the mold for simplicity's sake (although I doubt it will come up; just some food for thought.)

Since we were so successful in getting people recruited, here are our OOC and IC thread links for quick reference:

I'm in for my Kitsune if Juggs is in for Sun Wukong. If not, I'll figure out another character to play. I'm thinking Puss in Boots.

I'm in for my Kitsune if Juggs is in for Sun Wukong. If not, I'll figure out another character to play. I'm thinking Puss in Boots.

Oh, I love the concept I came up with for that character. I need to do more research so I can try to turn it into a narrative rather than just an index of ideas.

I'm glad I kept a list of all the people who've played or just expressed interest in the past so I can send out mass PM invites to try and get these off to a more robust start. Quill is in as Snow White as is tradition, so that one's taken in case any newcomers were very interested in that role.

This time around, I'm going to have Rumplestiltskin already having sent legions of minions (a few humans afraid to defy him, and many different monsters hoping to benefit from his rule) to create chaos, thus forcing even the more neutral characters to either flee for their safety or unite with Snow and her group to actively fight off the evil armies. So the war has already begun; if anyone's undecided on a side they can't afford to stay that way for long, which I think is what caused the wheels to spin without actually moving forward in the last couple of tries. I hope that makes sense to the returning players.

I can bring the huntsman back once more, I was kinda excited about him. I think he was also the woodsman, that after leaving the service of Snows parents he did a bit of logging and trading of fur.

I can bring the huntsman back once more, I was kinda excited about him. I think he was also the woodsman, that after leaving the service of Snows parents he did a bit of logging and trading of fur.

That's how I pictured it too, him being integral to both Snow White and Red Riding Hood's stories.

This means so far I've gotten as many acceptances to the invitations as I have rejections, and I sent about 30 invites out so for the site, I'd say that's a pretty good ratio. Hopefully a handful more will show, and a few newcomers as well.

Anyway, if someone wants to peek at their old profile submissions and whatnot, just let me know and I'll send you the link to the old threads so you can use them to copy-paste or just inspire your updated version.

Offline Sirian Eve

I can't recall who I submitted last time, but this time around I'll be on the wrong side of the law, ya get me?

Offline Kokaine

Can we post submissions here or would you prefer PM?

Offline MathimTopic starter

I'd prefer them here so we can see the details and make adjustments on the fly if desired (especially if doing comparisons of each other's).

As for past submissions, here's a couple of the old threads where you can find yours and and others' characters from previous games:

https://elliquiy.com/forums/index.php?topic=256702.0

As I said, you are all more than welcome to copy-paste completely unedited from one of those previous submissions if you like, nothing about their eligibility has changed so it's all fair game.

WIP

Player Name: Kokaine
Character Name/Identity: Pyrrha - (Red Riding Hood)
Tale(s) of Origin: Red Riding Hood
Alignment: Neutral/Undecided
Abilities:
Mark of the Beast - Neither one thing nor the other, Red appears to be caught in limbo with regards to things she cannot fully remember. She dreams of the wolf, knows it intimately, yet she remains ever poised on the edge, neither tipping over into full beast form yet clearly not human. Her senses are sharper, her strength greater than that of a woman her size and stature, she is faster, more agile, and more durable--able to take damage and heal provided she eats. Her nature is more primal and can bring about physical changes to her eyes, teeth, and nails. These things do ebb and flow with the phases of the moon, the full moon bringing on the greatest intensity, but they are always there and require Red to truly be master of herself.

Communicate with animals - Extends to predatory species and allows her very basic commands with most, the creatures retain free will but may respond based on Red's perceived dominance or weakness. Wolves and other canines are the easiest for her to summon and command.

The Red Cloak - An enchanted item that can turn into any garment or accessory the owner can imagine, though it is always red. The cloak boosts or represses certain traits in the wearer, dependent upon their personality and motivations. For Red it is meant to soothe the beast and helps her keep control of herself. If lost, wearing other red items may temporarily help but not indefinitely, or even for long. The cloak can be taken or loaned but will only work as intended for the true owner. It may be gifted to another but only by free will.

Survivalist - Red has an uncanny ability to be, say, or do whatever will allow her to survive a given situation. It's not so much magical as it is keen observation and natural intuition. It won't keep her out of trouble, unfortunately, and seems to have made her a tad more reckless with herself at times, encouraging that part of her that seems to thrive on the edge. So far she's always managed to land on her feet though, eventually.

Skills:
Brawling - Red is a natural born fighter, not so much trained in any particular discipline as she is intuitively capable of observing and adapting on the fly, adopting moves she's seen to her own style. It doesn't hurt that she seems to relish a good fight.
Hunting, Tracking, Trapping.
Use of whips, small blades and projectiles, bow and arrows.
Cooking.
Minor healing, herbalism.
Gambling.

Backstory: Feel free to deviate from the norm to fit how you want to play the character as long as the core doesn't change so much that their ability wouldn't make sense. But you are welcome to change heroic characters to villains if you can make it work. The last bit should show their reaction to Rumplestiltskin declaring his violent intention to conquer the world's kingdoms and recruit other brutes and monsters to his ranks.
Personality: What sort of attitude do they have toward life, toward friends, strangers, enemies?

Orientation: Pansexual, open to the possibility of a closed polyamorous relationship (M/M/F or M/F/F).
Red's tastes are pretty flexible. She can be dominant or dominated depending on the partner but beware playing such games  because the beast half of her nature does not do things by half measures. She's probably not a good match for someone purely into vanilla. See player O/O's.

Appearance (please identify face claims where possible): Still deciding on face claim.

Just need that backstory bit filled in and we're golden (or red, in this case, LOL). Looking forward to seeing the face claim and costume images, too. We don't always have to up the ante, sometimes we get them perfect on the first try (LamentingQuill's Snow White, for instance).

Player Name: DShadow
Character Name/Identity: Dracula
Tale(s) of Origin: Vlad the Impaler
Alignment: Pure Good

Abilities: Fights with a magic lance. The lance kills the undead and is filled with divine light. It also imbues Dracula with long life.
Skills: Etiquette, Horseback riding, hand to hand combat, athleticism, religious knowledge
Backstory: The lance was taken from his bastard imposter brother, Vlad the Impaler, when the real Vlad (Dracula) escaped from the dungeons and murdered his brother. But the Ottoman Empire and the Saxons whom suffered at Vlad's hands refused to believe it was Vlad's brother who was responsible for their grievances. Vlad changed his name to Dracula and hid in The Abbey of Carta in Transylvania, sheltered there by the White Monks. All the monks were banished from the Abbey in 1474 by Matthias Corvinus’, a Hungarian King and Necromancer. Dracula fought with the monks and it is said that as they fell they would rise from the dead for Dracula in a final stand. Truth is, it was there that his lance became blessed, and he saved the abbey, fighting off hordes of skeletons and zombies. He fought the army all the way to Castle Dracula, so named after finally laying the Necromancer to rest. Over time, the name Dracula and the Necromancer Corvinus' became covered up in an entirely different legend. And Dracula, finding himself aging extremely slowly, moved on in his travels and followed the Divine Calling.
Personality: Hopeful, faithful, ruthless, and patient.
Orientation: Devoted and pious, but not bound to it. He does prefer female company.
Appearance (please identify face claims where possible): Gary Oldman

Most group games just don't tend to last very long so I just try to make things improve with each incarnation to achieve optimal results, so I'm optimistic about this one since it's just the latest attempt.

dshadow, just need some images to round that one out. Interesting idea, going with an alternate take on Dracula. Not quite the full vampire effect, that's unexpected. There won't be a great deal of undead for him to fight so hopefully he's effective against all manner of creatures and men.

Abilities: Her natural abilities are channeled through her staff.
Extensive knowledge of the arcane.
Prophecy
Superhuman strength
Plant Manipulation
Hypnosis
Conjuring and manipulation
Flight
Skills:
Spell casting- Curses are her specialty

Backstory:
Maleficent wasn’t always evil. She was however the most powerful fae of her time. She was born innocent and wise. Growing up to become a gatekeeper of her own domain. It is well known that things in the fae realm work differently than in the mortal realm. Names are important. Anything that remained nameless held no power.

Maleficent was not always known by that name, she had another before she made a deal with a Oberon to save the life of the forest she protected by giving up her old name and with it her power. As we know, things without names have no power. Instead of letting her cease to be he tricked her into a new name, Maleficent. That name poisoned her like a rotten apple. Her heart became black as pitch and where ever she ventured that darkness would infect.

The forest she had vowed to protect turned haggard and grey. The animals that dwelled there disappeared or morphed into monsters. She settled a throne in this forest. Known as the Forest of Thorns and her subjects became known as the dark fae.

Personality: She loves nothing, she hates nothing. She is neutral and unwavering in her emotions. Her desires are shadows, but she does enjoy making people fall inlove and then tearing them apart. She does not tolerate incompetence, nor is she forgiving. She does enjoy a good song. Music has always given her pleasure.

im sure he's effective, it's divine light like a paladin in world of warcraft. I am thinking any manner of dark or evil the light will harm, it's just potentially unstoppable against undead, demons, vampires, and the like.

Definitly the right attitude to a prevalent problem. What was the issue last time, if I may be curious?

I don't think you could pin it down to a singular issue per se, but the very first attempt definitely tried reaching too far, in taking the characters to the 'real' world like in the movie which was too difficult logistically so it didn't appeal to anyone. The last few times, I think things just didn't get off to an active enough start so I'm going to have the world already plunged into war from the beginning, leaving no one without something to do to hopefully spur more posting. Otherwise they end up sitting around the table talking and that gets old quick.

With Snow White's beloved having fallen and a great deal of her kingdom's armies crushed, she activates the Magic Mirror to connect to all others, sending out a beacon to everyone in reach who has the strength to fight and allowing only those with hearts of sufficient goodness and courage to use the mirrors as portals to come to her castle and unite. But they'll have to survive the monstrous power and armies of Rumplestiltskin first.

Wait, we're jumping into combat right off the hop this time?

Offline MathimTopic starter

One at a time responses to fit in one post without taking up space by quoting, here goes:

@ Levi: For some reason you weren't on the master list I compiled of interested parties (probably you were in one of the games I was unable to locate in archives, since I gathered the names for my list from the ones I could find and remember). You're of course 100% welcome back if you like and I'll make sure to update my list with yours and others' names in this thread who are new.

@ Roleplay Frog: I think someone on Rumplestiltskin's side of things would be good since the majority of characters are either good or just are opposed to him anyway like Maleficent. They don't even have to have been evil from whatever story you draw them from, so you can take an established good character and tailor them to be someone who'd willingly and maliciously follow Rumplestiltskin. But please, don't feel obligated to just take up whatever's needed, this is for you to exercise creativity in your own way.

@ Fury Aphrodisia: I'm giving each person the option to have something to do at the start to either prompt them to accept Snow White's invitation, or be able to contribute from wherever they are without traveling there through a mirror. I think the slow burn approach from the last few tries hasn't helped things so someone can choose to be in a place that is so far unaffected by the march of Rumple's armies or his own dark presence, or they can choose to start in a place that is being attacked and use their powers to fight and repel them, thus putting them on Snow's mirror's radar. That way everyone has maximum options for what they can be doing and if not everyone is on the same page, someone can independently post an action scene without having to wait on anyone. I'm hoping that strategem will help extend the life of the game somewhat. I'm completely open to suggestions or alternatives so don't be shy about something you think might be more effective.

No, I just wanted to be sure. Neither Kit nor Puss would be suited to significant combat, at least right off the hop, so it left me wondering what I would be doing, but since I'm not sure yet which one I'm even going to be playing, I think I have enough to figure out so far.

Player Name:Isengrad
Character Name/Identity: Sebastian /The Huntsman
Tale(s) of Origin: Snow White, Little Red Riding Hood
Alignment:Nuetral Good
Abilities:Blessings of the Wilde Jagd
  • Enhanced Physiology: The Huntsman's natural abilities are pushed to the extreme. He can track by scent, leap like a deer through the forest, is as powerful as the largest mountain bear, see near perfectly in the dark and so on. Woden made him the perfect hunter.
  • Jaeger: Jeager is his companion, a Golden eagle given to him by the leader of the Wilde Jagd, this spirit of the hunt can take different forms for his master. Most commonly is a Bow that produces it's own golden fletched arrows and a simple woodmans axe, its edge as sharp and as deadly as the birds talons. When needed the Huntsman can see through the eyes of His companion.
Skills: The Huntsman was/is a skilled tracker, even before the blessings of Woden. Trained first as a scout for some kindom he is adept at long distance running and thinking quick on his feet, as well as most hand to hand weapons. The bow came naturally to him and his skill only improved when he was blessed. Besides that, hes a pretty good cook after living on his own for so long.

Backstory: Sebastian hails form the northern continent, the son of a minor noble that sat high on his low laurels and tried to make sure Sebastian did the same. This in itself was pointless as the boy hated his father and as soon as he had come of age(14) he fled his home in the north to head to the western continent. There he joined the armies of of Snow whites father, training as a hunter and a scout. From his guard post he watched as young Snow white grew up into the woman she would be. At last those peaceful days were not meant to last.

The stepmother, the Queen Grimhilde, brought a dark cloud to the otherwise peaceful kingdom.Still it was her word that he was sworn to obay, her authority. So when he was ordred to drag Snow white into the forest and cut out her heart he at first obeyed. When it came right down to the moment, his hand and the dagger hovering above her suple frame, he realized he could not do it. Over the years a small seed of affection had been planted in his heart, a seed that blossomed on that day. They concocted a plan, he cut out the heart of a wild boar after capturing it in the forest and gave to Snow the very dagger he was ordered to kill her with.

Returning to the Queen he tossed the heart at her feet and gave up his commission, what did she care, he had done his job. He settled on the end of the kingdom and took up a lifestyle of hunting, trapping and logging to get by. He would return to the deep forest from time to time to check up on snow and train her in the use of the dagger he had given her. The rest was him patrolign the forest and scaring away or killing any dangerous beasts that may happen upon her, as well as stearing any of the queens guards away from where she lived.

He made it a point during that time to hunt a dangerous beast that stalked those woods, a great wolf that he was sure was the stuff of nightmares. In passing the house of an old grandma he heard her snoring rather loudly, having a fresh kill he decided to check to see if she needed any of the meat. When he entered he saw the wolf, fat and asleep. Thinking the wolf must have eaten the poor woman whole from the looks of it, and the lack of blood staining the floor. He carefully split open his stomach with a pair of the grandmothers shears. Surprised to find both the grandmother and her granddaughter alive he was ready to kill the beast in his sleep when red had a wonderful idea. They filled his belly with heavy stones and sewed him back up, so that when he awoke he would know he was done. When the wolf fell dead the huntsman took the wolfs skin, and hurled the carcass into a nearby gorge to feed the buzzards. Thus he had saved three lives.

It was quite some time before the queen stumbled upon the Huntmans ploy, and when she did she had him dragged into the palace to stand for his betrayal. The last thing he could remember was seeing his own heart beating in her open palm;however, that was not the end of his tale. He awoke a while later surrounded by hunters of strange and alien origin, and leading them was a great man who radiated fear, power, and the wild thrill of the hunt. Woden welcomed him to join his hunter of the Wilde jagd, and over the next few years he joined the primal hunt. Though his body was dead, his spirit grew stronger from the blessings. When they camped he would check on Snow, happy to see that it had all worked out.

When Rumplestilskin started his war Sebastian knew he had to head back, so taking the pelt of Big bad and getting Wodens blessing he returned tot he land of the living to fight, knowing that the next time he died, he would not get another chance at life. He would remain dead.
Personality: To freinds he tries to be kind, and an example of a good role model. He is a good man, unconcerned with weather it is against the law to do the good deed, knowing it only needs to be done. he likes to offer his enemies quarter only once.
Orientation: Bi-female preferance

While the young woman was away on a spiritual retreat her village was attacked and her people massacred.

When Neve returned she found the frozen bodies of men, woman and children alike sprawled in the snow, their bodies mutilated. Neve let forth an unholy scream and her powers exploded out of her, wolves howled and the snow around her swirled into a tempest. Shortly after white wolves joined her in the snow and they scented out the invaders, with Neve following they found the sight of the enemy and the woman destroyed them completely.

Once she had used her powers to kill however she could never go back! Years later she took a small boy named Kai from a village, for he had managed to get a sliver of her mirror unneeded within him. Neve loved that boy as much as one could, when one has forgotten every emotion but hate. However she was defeated by a simple girl who managed to release Kai from her spell with love. Enraged Neve looked for a way to pay back Gerda and Kai and that was when she heard of Rumpelstiltskin. Delighted with him declaration of war she joined forces with him instantly.

Personality: Angry and vindictive, Neve has never forgotten or forgiven the enemy the slaughter her people. Or the brats that escaped her! Neve has never fallen in love and if she did it could be her downfall. She takes pleasure in freezing people and has a collection of ice sculptures. She only ever shows affection to her wolves and the only person she trusts is Rumpelstiltskin himself.

Orientation: Straight, although extremely sensual she has no interest in relationships and will only take a man to her bed for one night. It would take a very determined person to break her heart of ice. Dom/Sub switch she doesn't mind who holds command in the bedroom. See players o/o's

Appearance: Cate Blancette

No, I just wanted to be sure. Neither Kit nor Puss would be suited to significant combat, at least right off the hop, so it left me wondering what I would be doing, but since I'm not sure yet which one I'm even going to be playing, I think I have enough to figure out so far.

Speaking of which, have we heard from Juggtacular?

Oh, I've got a number of ideas for how to turn such characters into very effective combatants, but only if you are open to the input, I don't want it to overshadow your designs on the character.

And no, sadly, have not heard from Juggtacular. I did sent out at least 30 messages to people so that I've gotten roughly half a dozen replies is fairly good for what I've seen. With my updated list I'm up to about 40 names, though, so if this falls through, my next attempt will hopefully get a better response.

I can see how I would make the Kitsune a combatant, it just goes against her character to actually want to put herself in harm's way for whatever reason, particularly if Wukong isn't there with her. He was the only reason she was willing to hear the others out in the first place. She dislikes humans, so watching them destroy each other would, at best, be entertainment.

If Juggs isn't coming back, though, there's not really a point in playing her, since she was designed to mesh with him. Puss in Boots, though... I don't know that I really want to go the whole Dreamworks route with that, though. It seems like a cop-out to make him a swordsman or something, so I was hoping to create a character who got by on charm more than anything else. But again, it's the sort of character that works better through plot than combat.

If it's going to be combat-heavy this time around, I'm going to want to go with a different sort of character, I just have no idea what, yet.

Offline Juggtacular

Player Name: Juggtacular
Character Name/Identity:Sun Wukong - The Monkey King
Tale(s) of Origin: Journey to the West
Alignment: Chaotic Good, Chaotic Evil(depending on who you ask)sometimes just Chaotic
Abilities:Due to the powerful forces involving his birth, as well as "upgrades" given to him, or taken for his own over the course of his life, Sun is a very, very powerful individual.

Godly Strength: Sun Wukong is physically very strong, as he is capable of effortlessly wielding his staff which weighs 8.1 tons, with one hand, and even a single finger. He is also strong enough to resist even Buddha's palm trying to crush him for a short period of time.

Godly Toughness: Like his strength, Sun is just as tough as he is strong. He has withstood an attack from the entirety of Heaven, and come out on top.

Godly Speed: Like the monkey he is, Sun is incredibly fast, and it's been said he's able to cover 13,468 miles in a single somersault(although this is obvious hyperbole). The speed also transfers to combat, and he is fast enough to vanish from sight with his movements.

Magic: The Monkey King is a master spellcaster. He innately knows 72 Transformations(including of course a massive ape), and has learned more throughout his life. Also, each of his hairs is magical, and when plucked from his body, can transform into objects, clones of Sun, and more. He also knows a plethora of elemental spells, conjuring spells, summoning circles, and magic to freeze anything in it's tracks. He even speaks and understands every language, as he came from a magic rock, and the Earth understands all.

Skills:

Ruyi Jingu Bang: Sun Wukong's prized staff is known as Ruyi Jingu Bang, and once belonged to Ao Guang, the Dragon King of the East Sea. It was gifted to Sun after a plethora of other enchanted weapons didn't match his standards. It's normal form is a black pillar that is 20 feet tall and as wide as a barrel. Only Sun who was fated to wield it can command it to shrink to a smaller size. It can also clone itself at his whim. Ruyi Bang weighs 8.1 tons, yet Sun wields it like it was as light as a cane. With his skill and the staff, he has defeated the entirety of Heaven. When not in use, Ruyi Bang shrinks down to the size of a needle and is tucked behind Sun's ear.

Martial Arts: Sun was born knowing 1,000 styles of martial arts, but has learned more from watching animals and his opponents during his travels. He is a master fighter and probably one of the best in the world.

Persuasive: The Monkey King has an infectious personality, and anyone with a good heart or spirit sees this, allowing Sun to easily gain friends and followers alike.

Backstory: Born from a magic rock, on the peak of Mount Huango(The Mountain of Flowers & Fruit) Sun Wukong's existence shook the pillars of Heaven, as the Jade Emperor himself noted two powerful beams of golden light coming from below the clouds. They were Sun's eyes as he looked around the new world. As he ate, the light died down, and soon after he started to befriend the creatures of the mountain; especially the monkeys. While playing, they decided to find the source of the stream that they always bathed in. What they found was a waterfall up the mountain, and the monkeys claimed whoever found the source, would be their king.

Sun volunteers, and after going through the waterfall, he finds water rushing over an iron bridge leading to a house. Bringing his new friends with him, they claim the house and Sun claims the title of Monkey King. Claiming the entirety of Mount Haungo as his Kingdom, Sun seeks out a powerful weapon to match his own strength. He found it underwater in the domain of Ao Guang, Dragon King of the East Seas. After that, he defeats the remaining dragons of the sea, claiming a golden chainmail shirt, a phoenix feather cap, and cloud walking boots from them. After returning to his Kingdom and demonstrating his power, Sun formed an alliance with multiple "demons" and Kings. Including the Bull Demon King, Lion Spirit King, Macaque Spirit King, Saurian Demon King, and Roc Demon King.

When Hell attempts to collect his soul, he goes so far as to erase his name and the names of his friends from the book of Life and Death. After the Dragon Kings and Kings of Hell report him to the Jade Emperor, the Emperor grants him a royal title to placate him. However, he is given the position not of "God", but of "Protector of Horses", the lowest job in Heaven. Rebelling against his continued treatment, he proclaims himself "The Great Sage, Equal of Heaven" and frees the cloud horses. Heaven recognizes his self gifted title, and again tries to placate him, this time making him the "Guardian of the Heavenly Garden". Again however, it is a lowly position, and he is denied entry to a banquet that every other God and Goddess is invited to. In retaliation, he stole the Peaches of Immortality, the Pills of Longevity, and the Emperor's royal wine.

He consumed all 3 and returned home to his mountain to prepare for a rebellion against Heaven itself. When Heaven retaliates, Sun single-handedly defeats all 100,000 Celestial Warriors, all 28 constellations, four heavenly kings, and Nezha, and proves himself equal to the best of Heaven's generals, Erlang Shen. Eventually, through the teamwork of Taoist and Buddhist forces, including the efforts from some of the greatest deities, and then finally by the Bodhisattva of mercy, Guanyin, Sun Wukong is captured.

After several failed attempts at execution, Sun Wukong is locked into Laozi's eight-way trigram Crucible to be distilled into an elixir (so that Laozi could regain his pills of longevity) by samadhi fires. After 49 days, however, when the cauldron is opened, Sun Wukong jumps out, even stronger. He is now able to recognize evil with huǒyǎn-jīnjīng (火眼金睛) (lit. "golden-gaze fiery-eyes"), an eye condition that also gives him a weakness to smoke, and proceeds to destroy Heaven's remaining forces. The Jade Emperor and the authorities of Heaven appeal to the Buddha, who arrives from his temple in the West. The Buddha bets that Sun Wukong cannot escape from Buddha's palm. Sun Wukong smugly accepts the bet. He leaps and flies to the end of the world. Seeing nothing but five pillars, Wukong believes he has reached the ends of Heaven.

To prove his trail, he marks the pillars with a phrase declaring himself the great sage equal to heaven). He leaps back and lands in the Buddha's palm. He is surprised to find that the five "pillars" he found are in fact the fingers of the Buddha's hand. When Wukong tries to escape, the Buddha turns his hand into a mountain. Before Wukong can shrug it off, the Buddha seals him there using a paper talisman bearing the mantra "Om Mani Padme Hum" in gold letters. Sun Wukong remains imprisoned for five centuries.

While sealed away, Wukong has nothing but time to think and meditate on life and his existence. He was finally beginning to understand why he was treated the way he was, when Rumplestiltskin began his war. He sensed it, but could do nothing; until Buddha himself appeared and shattered his prison. The deity made a deal with Sun Wukong; he would gain his true freedom, and full admission into Heaven as the Great Sage, when the Djinn lay defeated. And to seal the pact, Buddha placed a golden band on Sun Wukong's head that could never be removed until the deed was done.

Personality: As he is a monkey, Sun is naturally a playful individual. He loves to play pranks and tricks on people, often times hoping it's as funny to them as it is him. He has a good heart, and knows the difference between right and wrong, no matter the context. And he will fight for what is right to his last breath, even if it means fighting the entirety of the Jade Heavens because they treated him horribly. He is confident in his power, and himself, as he never backs down from a challenge, and will face even impossible odds with high hope.

Orientation:Heterosexual
Appearance:  In his human form, Sun appears to be a normal man. About six feet even, well muscled, with wild blond hair, and a young face. His natural form is that of Sun Wukong, the Monkey King. He appears to be a humanoid monkey with a very human face, fiery hair, and a long tail protruding from his lower back. His appearance tends to change based on his mood however, so he can look like nearly anything or anyone.

But I do like Rumpelstilzchen. Sorry, gonna go with original spelling. :P Plus there's no shortness on odd but quirckily powerful evil things. From Baba Yaga over Krampus to .. well.. actually the majority of fairtytale characters, if you go by the original source material. Hoooh..
I could be the Erlking!

I mean, I usually play Rumple just 'cause he's the main bad guy and we always have our main hero, Snow White covered. But you're welcome to take on the role of Rumplestiltskin if you like, provided it makes sense how he comes to possess the marvelous, virtually limitless potential it takes to run the campaign that spans the world. My idea about his being a former djinn, and having once tasted that limitless godly power but now being forced to make a deal rather than a one-sided exchange, where if he ever breaks his word he perishes, was a fairly simple and expedient way of getting him to that lofty peak. But you're more than welcome to be a sidekick or other rank of vassal if you wish.

Like a hero swooping in! Nice to see you back, Juggs, wasn't sure if we were going to be graced with your illustrious presence again, LOL. I think with some minor downgrades of that mythical strength (just to balance things out; Hulk isn't peerless among the other Avengers, after all) we're good to go with our resident simian sovereign.

And we now have enough folks submitted to start our OOC and IC threads. Give me a bit and I'll post the links in this post, and in the first post of this thread. If you're uncertain about anything, PM me or post here to ask any queries and we'll all be happy to direct you to wherever you're looking for.

Online Norsegod1839

Still look Mathim? I'm reading through the intro and back stuff now but am interested!

Offline MathimTopic starter

Hells yeah we're still taking players! And that's another name to add to my list. I'm very optimistic about this game and its future incarnations!

Online Norsegod1839

Cool! Now I'm still reading the concept and every ones character ideas

But I was thinking I might do a rift on one of the classic horror monsters like frankenstien or the wolf man?

Let me know I feel I'm going the right way or that'd be acceptable.

Offline MathimTopic starter

For the wolf man, there's not a specific one given the mythology from which he emerges, so he'd just be one of many that do exist, maybe not all together, but yes, that is a possibility. Frankenstein, unlike zombies reanimated by magic like those commanded by Rumplestiltskin, can be customized to have different types of limbs and whatnot attached so you can have him with non-human limbs stitched on if you like, among other things. Just make sure the lab from which he emerges is either low-tech enough to fit the era, or that his origin is magic rather than sci-fi just to fit the fantasy narrative.

Offline Kokaine

I will get my sheet done tonight.

Offline Sirian Eve

I think Malef will need some minions..

Offline MathimTopic starter

She's supposedly proficient in shapeshifting so it shouldn't be a stretch for her to create some out of crows and whatnot. That's what Rumplestiltskin does when he can't find anyone or anything willing to do his bidding.

Offline Isengrad

Shes a fae creature, they can call upon nature to do their bidding, and the lesser fairy folk. So I would call treants, brownies, ettercaps, grigs, and if you really eanna get dark you might be able to have Rawhead and bloody bones, and a nucklave as lieutenants. Look into celtic and eastern European mythology. Its why I linked the Huntsman to the wild hunt as that and Woden( precourser to Odin) be his link and power source.

Offline Sirian Eve

Ah yes, that is true. Thank you both. I was thinking what would be the perfect little sidekick for her...

Offline MathimTopic starter

Maybe even one with a side of romance? That always seemed missing from her stories.

Offline Sirian Eve

Hhaha romance....mmmhmm..

It would be interesting.

Offline MathimTopic starter

Well, here's my Rumplestiltskin profile as the archvillain to ensure everyone has a target, whether for opposing or serving.

Player Name: Mathim
Character Name/Identity: Rumplestiltskin
Tale of Origin: Rumplestiltskin
Alignment: Pure evil
Ability(ies): Rumplestiltskin, being a former Djinn, had access to each of the three major classifications of magic at a whim, though he had been limited to being capable of using it unrestrained only when in service to a master in possession of his lamp. After having been freed from his prison, the majority of his power slipped away and in order to refill his reserves of magic, it is necessary for him to arrange deals with those he meets. Anything he can promise them in exchange for whatever he demands in return fuels his magical energy, the greater the weight of the mutual promise as well as the greater sense of desire and urgency of the person agreeing to his conditions, the more energy it gives Rumple. While it must be used judiciously to avoid running short, he can wield any sort of spell he wishes, though the drain upon him is considerable compared to before when it was virtually limitless.
Weaknesses: His greatest power is his greatest weakness. If Rumplestiltskin ever fails to deliver on his end of a deal, he dies. He must therefore be exceedingly careful about how he phrases his contracts and to ensure he promises nothing if he is not absolutely certain he can deliver, which can hinder his ability to get the most out of his deals, or force him to accept lesser conditions and thus earn less magical energy from a deal.
Personality: Rumplestiltskin is a crass, greedy soul that despised the idea of being thrust into an eternity of servitude to pitiful mortals and it drove him to crave their position of control. But he never considered the proverb that someone craving power will never be satisfied, and refuses to believe anyone's cautionary warnings that his conquest of the world will still not make him feel completely fulfilled. His endless desire for power and control leads him to regard all others as mere pawns or trophies, playthings really, for his amusement. While he acknowledges that those with great power are useful allies, he could care less about them as individuals.
History and Backstory: A Djinn from the desert of the Eastern continent, Rumplestiltskin hated being given orders by greedy or desperate masters. He would twist their wishes as far as their ambiguity could be stretched and make them sorry they were ever born, much less that they had ever run afoul of him. But human greed was insatiable and no amount of dire warnings could make them shy away from trying to wish for their heart's desire three times over. And every time, they would end up with less than they ever had before, if they were still alive to ponder this loss. Master after master, he tried reasoning with them, warping their first wish, tempting them with a second wish that he would not do the same with if they agreed to free him with their third. But they would always invariably try to 'trick' him by making a selfish third wish, not realizing that it was only his will that made their second wish not backfire, and he would cause their third wish to do so spectacularly and in most cases it always killed them. Finally one master had annoyed him from the onset, and he twisted both wishes, threatening an even worse fate with the third, unless it was used to free him in which case the first two wishes could be nullified and the master could at the very least walk away with no loss. Rumplestiltskin, however, murdered him for his clothes upon being freed. His first kill as a mortal, with his bare hands.
He did not anticipate such a great downgrade in his power and now realized why no other Djinn walked free, their own power felt like enough of a boon that freedom was not such a tempting prize. He had to get it back. Luckily his experience with negotiating had left a lingering gift that he could utilize without any reserves of magic, that would allow him to rebuild his: The art of the deal.
It started out small. He wandered about a desert kingdom, seeking out the poor, the downtrodden, offering them a release from their suffering in exchange for trivial favors they were either too drunk or desperate to refuse, things they couldn't possibly deliver upon but not understanding what they were dealing with. After hundreds of them had offered him their blessings in exchange for his vague promise to end their torment, he merely used his now massive store of magical energy to create an enormous whirlpool in the sand and bury the entire kingdom. The suffering of the poor had truly ended, and he was exempt from the penalty of failing to deliver on his end of the bargain because, technically, he had.
It felt like nothing he had ever experienced before. That power, unrestrained, with no one involved but himself and his own desire to do it. He had to feel that again. And again. And again. Power was a drug and he was addicted. He set his sights on the whole wide world this time, and his great act of evil was a declaration of war upon the entire realm. Those who stood in his way would either bow the knee and be spared to live a life of servitude to him for a change, or be mowed down like grass beneath the feet of a stampede of great beasts.
But no fool was he. He understood very well that his power had its limits. He needed others to recharge his magic, much as he hated being dependent on anyone for anything. And there were others who wielded magic as well, which would require more effort on his part. He needed like-minded beings to share in his desire for conquest and aid him in his ambitious goals. But he would be second to none, accepting only underlings and demanding to be the unquestioned lord of this dark campaign.
Sexual Stuff: Since he can visit folks in their dreams if they have ever been under a sleeping curse, he can be a sexual Freddy Kreuger if he wants...the possibilities are endless.
Story-Related Suggestions: The heartless Rumple try to pursue 'love', more as a trophy, from the heart of the one who despises him and leads the opposition, Snow White.
Appearance (please identify face claims where possible): Casper Van Dien; although Rumple is thousands of years old by now, he appears only to be in his forties and always will.

Oh yes that's right! I played Belle at one point, two years ago. :) I remember now.

I think I just might, I really liked the idea behind the Belle you helped me come up with. I've been thinking about it while at work this morning. I'll look over her old character sheet when I get home from work. :) I owe a post to someone in my 1 x 1 post, then I'll get right on Belle (hoho).

Offline MathimTopic starter

Yep, the profile should still be there somewhere, in one of the links I have handy, hopefully.

Offline PrincessAriel

Here we are, still love her profile:

Player Name: PrincessAriel
Character Name/Identity: Belle
Tale of Origin: Beauty and the Beast
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Abilities: She can change her human form to that of beastly form whenever she wishes, though she usually does stay in her beastly form. Whenever she is around humans, she knows it's best to be in her human form, though it pains her beloved Beast; whenever she is human, he is not. When in her beastly form, she has control over herself, but has a habit of losing her temper quicker than normal. She is stronger, faster, her voice is gruffer, she has a set of horns and brown tuffs of hair in places humans do not.
*She also has a magical mirror that she uses to check up on Beast and her father (mainly Beast).
Skills: She can track, using her keen sense of smell to find foes that others may not be able to find. She has a proficiency in hand-to-hand combat, not really liking weapons all that much since such weapons were so often used against her lover and herself for what they look like.
Backstory: Belle had a father, a father she loved so very dearly, and two sisters who despised her for reasons she never could understand. They often whined and complained about anything and everything, especially when they didn't get there way, whereas Belle simply tried to enjoy the present and not let her troubles bog her down. When their father lost all his money to dept, she didn't complain, when they moved into a small house and had to eat little for dinner, she kept smiling. She helped out by working in a store for books, giving all her earnings to her father, keeping only a coin here or there for herself so she could buy books for herself or materials for making herself a new dress. One night, her father ventured out, away from town, to meet a cargo ship so he can get their money back and restore their fortune, but when he arrives, the money is already gone due to the dept he still owed. On his way home, he get's lost, but luckily stumbles upon a castle. Her father finds no one in the castle and helps himself to some food that had been prepared. When he awoke in the morning there was breakfast prepared for him and he assumed that this was perhaps the doing of a very kind fairy.

On his way out, her father stops to a pick a rose from the garden for Belle and this is when he is confronted by an angry Beast, who felt like Belle's father was now taking advantage of his hospitality. Upon hearing that the man has daughters, he agrees to spare his life on the condition that one of his daughters willingly take his place. Before the man is sent home, Beast allows him to fill a chest with a gold to take with him. When his children hear of the Beast and his demands, they are sorrowful and his two elder daughters wail loudly. They see that Belle is calm and not crying, and they despise her for it. Belle tells them that she will not cry because she will not allow her father to die because of her. She volunteers to take her father’s place as the Beast’s prisoner, and her sisters are secretly thrilled at the prospect that the Beast may devour her. When she arrives, the Beast is kind to her, so very kind.

Belle goes to the palace where the Beast informs her that she is now mistress of the castle and that he is her servant. There are other servents there, they had once been human as well, but they too had been affected by Beast's curse. They keep her company as she passes her time in the library and by exploring her new home. Each night she has supper with the Beast who stays by her side. Each night the two conversed and each night, the Beast would ask Belle to marry her, only for her to reject his proposal. Still fearful of the Beast, despite his kindness, she refuses his proposals for months. He becomes grumpier each time, but he still shows her kindness because he has fallen head over heals for her. It is because of these feelings for her that he allows her to visit her father and family again under the condition that she would return to him after one week. Belle agrees and is given a magic ring that could transport her back to her family on a whim, and she uses that to be reunited with her kin. Belle’s sisters, who had since married, were furious to see their sister alive and dressed more elegantly than they were. Being the spiteful, horrible souls they were, they concocted a plan to convince Belle to break her promise to Beast and to stay longer than a week in an attempt to anger the Beast into devouring Belle

Belle fell for this ruse. With her sisters pretending to be nice to her and showing her a level of affection she had never experienced from them, she promised them to stay one week longer. In this time, she began to feel guilty for being so long apart from Beast whom she longed to see again. It was on her tenth night away from him she had a nightmare of Beast dying that she awoke in tears. She used the ring right away, only to find Beast lying on the floor of his rose garden. She ran to him, so very scared that his time had run out, that his curse had come to a horrible end. So fearful was she, she held him close to her as she kissed him. Tears rolling down her face, she watched as he blinked at her, his tuffs of hair falling away. She watched him become human, only to have her body transform before him.

Their love, her true love for him, was suppose to break Beast's curse for good, but the curse changed her as well, transforming Belle as Beast became human. While one is human, the other cannot be. He cared not for what she looked like, having been transformed for so long himself, but the shock of such a transformation startled her. At first, she kept in her human form for as long as she could, but while in human form, Beast's emotional state would become unstable and he would become violent. So she embraced her beastly form, all so he could stay human.

When Belle first heard of Rumpelstiltskin, she had hoped maybe he could help to find a 'cure' for their curse, but when his declaration of wanting to rule the kingdoms became apparent and he started trying to recruit monsters and villains, she lost hope for getting his help. Instead, she decided to fight against him; he was just like the witch who had put a curse upon her Beast, evil and controlling.

Any idea where the old ones were kept? I could sift through my old post records, but it would take me weeks at this pace to get through enough of them to find it. If  you know offhand where the posts are, I can just copy/paste my old file. Or we can just go forward with the understanding that I've changed literally nothing about her since the last time we played. Your call, fearless leader.

There are links to about 3 or 4 previous attempts that someone graciously dug up for the last game, though this is probably attempt 5 or 6 so there are at least that many in total. If you were to use the search tool to try and find them all, things like 'Avengers Grimm', 'Fairy Tale Kingdoms/Heroes/Superheroes' and the like, you might get lucky and hit upon them in the first couple of pages.

Song- When she sings, her voice is lovely and enchanting that animals of all kinds are drawn to her presence she can then request of them to her. However the animals in question cannot be any more than a mile distance away or they will not hear her sing.

Animal speech- Snow White can understand what animals are saying. Insects, aquatic denizens and reptiles are harder to understand than mammals, she has no idea why.

Daggers- All the dagger and knife lessons the huntsman gave her make Snow White no helpless damsel. She is lethal in a dagger/knife fight.

Agility- Snow White is swift and agile on her feet, years of training and practice has made speed and grace as natural as breathing to the fair princess.

Weaknesses: Insomnia- After the sleeping curse cast upon her by her stepmother, Snow White doesn't have such an easy time sleeping anymore, always terrified she will be trapped in the world of sleep ]once again. She gets sleep, just probably not as much as she should be getting.

Personality:

To friends- Snow White is gentle and kind to those close enough to her to be called her friend, her compassion and capacity for love are limitless, there is no lengths she won't go to in order to lift the spirits of or protect her loved ones.

Having experienced the loss of loved ones before, Snow White is highly, highly protective, she refuses to ever again risk something happening to anyone she cares about ever again, she will not hesitate to act if there no other possible non-violent alternative.

A lover of nature and animals, Snow White adores to spend most of her times in the royal gardens and the edges of the nearby forest to be with her animal friends.

To enemies (evil individuals)- Snow White will not tolerate the dark of heart, she will not suffer their wickedness or allow them to do harm to anyone around her if she had the breath left in her to do something about it. She could be open to helping a willing individual reform, but she would be highly suspicious until she knows for certain whether or not it's real.

For the truly wicked, Snow White would be ruthless and determined to stop them before they could harm any  more good innocent people than they may already have.

To strangers- Having experienced what happens when you too readily completely trust a stranger, Snow White has logically become a little bit more stand offish than she used to be, though she is not quite to the point of cold or stoic. She would simply be very cautious, though polite and willing to be convinced of ones trustworthiness.

History and Backstory:

Lovely Snow White, so beautiful that she earned the deep seeded hatred of her vain stepmother... something that would alter Snow White's life forever.

She always suspected her stepmother had something to do with it when her father suddenly fell ill and died, the woman struck her as too power hungry and ambitious, not to mention that she never really showed her father the tender love she always felt should be present in a marriage...

Her suspicions of her stepmother proved correct when the woman ordered her huntsman to take her out deep into the forest and carve out her heart, all because the queen's magic mirror declared Snow White to be the fairest of all maidens... taking from the queen her coveted desire to rule as the most beautiful woman in all the land...

However, once they were deep in the forest and the huntsman raised his dagger, his heart swelled with all the tender affection from watching this sweet young woman grow up and he realized... he could not do this...
Instead, he told the princess everything and together they devised a plan, he would carve out the heart of boar and take it back to the queen and Snow White would be free to escape and live her life wherever she so chose. The huntsman even took the time to return the forest several times to give Snow White lessons in using daggers to their fullest potential, ensuring the princess at least stood a chance in this world at defending herself.

However, this was not clever enough to evade the wicked queen... with the help of the magic mirror, the queen discovered the heart brought before her was not that of Snow White, but the heart of a pig! She had been tricked!
The queen had the huntsman executed for his treachery and immediately put plans in motion to take care of the lovely Snow White herself.

Three times she tried, first with an enchanted sash that nearly squeezed Snow White to death before her seven small friends arrived to cut it off of her, the second time was poison comb that drugged the princess into a slumber, but again her dwarf friends arrived home just in time to pull the comb from her hair before it was too late. Finally, deciding play time was over, the queen poisoned an apple and disquised herself as a frail kindly old woman whom was lost in the woods.

Snow White, with her kind and tender heart, was sympathetic to what she thought was a frightened old woman and invited her inside, accepting the old woman's offer to split one of the apple's in her basket in thanks for the kind hopsitality in her moment of fear.
Far too trusting, Snow White bit into the apple and immediately fell into a death-like sleep, a sleep so deep that the dwarves would believe she was truly dead, the princess would likely starve to death before anyone discovered the truth.

Satisfied with her work, the queen left the dwarves cottage just in time to hide around back as the dwarves were arriving home from the mine, their wails of despair filling the cottage as they believed their beloved princess was truly struck down this time by her jealous stepmother.
Enraged, the dwarves immediately left the cottage and soon found the disguised queen hunched down behind their cottage, she stood no chance against the angry dwarves as they turned their pick axes upon her in vengeance for their precious Snow White.

The dwarves then set to work constructing a gorgeous crystal coffin worthy of their sweet friend, laying her to rest in her favorite wild flower filled clearing deep in the forest, where they could visit her every single day after work.
Days passed and then a miracle happened, a handsome prince by the name of Florian was riding through the forest when he spotted Snow White's glittering crystal coffin, seven drawves knelt in front of it in mourning.

The prince slid down from his horse and approached, mesmerized by the breathtaking young beauty within, his heart broke as the dwarves explained to the prince what had happened to the beautiful maiden.
He made a single request to the dwarves, that he should be able to send the lovely princess off to the hereafter with a kiss of love, for his heart had been captured.

Deciding it couldn't hurt to grant the prince his request, the dwarves opened up the lid to Snow White's crystal resting place and allowed him to approach and say his sweet goodbye.
However... the moment the prince's lips touched the cool lips of Snow White, a soft warm breeze swirled around the clearing and Snow White's eyelids slowly fluttered open, a gentle smile curving her lips... standing above her was the prince from the dreams she'd had in this cursed sleep... he had come after all to save her...

Snow White and her prince were immediately married, no couple in all the land was happier or more in love... but this beautiful romance... it was not to last...

Her beloved husband and king, her sweet Florian... he was slain in battle against a risen foe by the name of Rumplestilskin... leaving the young queen with a deep ache in her heart and thirst for vengeance! She would accept nothing less than Rumple's head rolling across the ground, just like he'd done to her darling Florian...

Sexual Stuff: I am totally on board to have Snow White enter into a new romance, her wounded heart could use some healing that can only come from love.

My big no no's are all included in my o/o's in the link on my signature, along with my on's.

Snow White is heterosexual and is not open to threesomes, she's a one man only commitment type of girl.

Story-Related Suggestions: I'd love to see the attraction to Snow White that Rumple had in the movie, but it's by no means a requirement, I can totally live without it, would simply be fun is all.

Mathim if I can still grab Frankenstein I'll work on the character sheet today!

Online Norsegod1839

Player Name: Norse God
Character Name/Identity: Frankenstein A.K.A Frank
Tale(s) of Origin: Frankenstein Or The Modern Prometheus
Alignment: Neutral Good (Prefers not to get involved but almost always finds he has to)
Abilities:

Extremely-dense skin and muscle tissue, which render him highly resistant to physical injury. Very little hurts him and it takes extreme circumstances to wind or get him to feel anything. Even when he does it get hurt he rarely feels it which can be a help or a hindrance. Perhaps due to his past the only thing he can feel is heat and fire.

As a side effect of coming back from the dead Frankenstein can see the dead and hear them... which annoys him greatly.

Powerful strength Frankenstein can lift up to twenty times his own weight.

Skills: Frank is a survivor and has lasted as long as he could with his strength and wits alone. He's a brawler and is traditionally trained as a boxer.

Backstory: The story of Frank is one of Gothic terror and sadness. What he was before he was reborn is entirely unknown. He remembers nothing of the afterlife either and what awaits us after death.

He was (re)born in Frankenstein castle under the machinations of one Doctor Victor Frankenstein and his lab assistant Igor. Using a combination of technology and magic Doctor Frankenstein was able to pluck Frank from the afterlife and into the body he stitched together for him. He coined the term "soul transference" and claimed that with time and funding he might be able to refine the process potentially. Unfortunate for the Doctor the people in the area where he was set up were a superstitious lot who didn't take kindly to grave robbing. It was Igor that actually ratted him out the second the doctor managed to complete his experiment. The sight of the creature terrified him and he considered it to be so unholy that god himself would punish Igor if he allowed such an abomination to walk the Earth.

Whether or not Doctor Frankenstein was a pioneer or a mad man will never be known. He died the night of Frank's birth killed by the assault towns people.  Frank confused and unknown slipped away as the castle was burnt to the ground. He never returned to that area and instead wandered as the centuries passed.

Most of his story or at least the important bits of it regard Harlem. Frank immigrated to New York City at the turn of the century looking for a better life. He found not so much a better life but a reason to live in Harlem. The people of Harlem looked like him and to an extent accepted him as one of their own. He became a leader in their community protecting them and working to keep the neighborhood safe. No one ever found out who he was but a small section knew of his unique powers. When the time came for him to leave he refused and faded into the history of Harlem as its silent protector. To this day he works in the shadows and every one knows of the "protector of Harlem" even if they don't know who he is.

Personality: At best Frank is a reserved gentle giant. He isn't one for talking and prefers to speak through his actions. He's a community man having settled in the bronx and acting as the areas silent protector. Frank believes in helping people who can't help themselves and will do anything for that belief.

Orientation: Straight

Appearance: Frank stands at six five and weighs 250 pounds. Over the years he's found himself in a few different body types as he's had to compensate for dead flesh and or diseases. While Frank is very much alive not every part of him is. His head, torso, and the top half of his thighs and hips are of original flesh and were brought back with magic and steam technology. His legs, arms, and various body parts (Ears, Nose) ect are parts he has taken over the years. He's always tried to keep everything the same flesh colored tone. Race wise he looks black and that's how he identifies. Hair of any kind does not grow on him. He has strong handsome features and when he wears his usual attire of coat shirt and jeans one would even call him handsome. Stitches adorn his body like tattoos all of various age. He has sockets where his nipples once were and his sides have zippers to access the machinery inside of him.

I somehow missed that part! Though I'll have to think on pics the closest in my head is kind of Luke Cage they were kind of my mashup character.

I also contemplated a Wolferine/ Wolf Man mash up.

I had an idea of a mashup of Wolverine and the wolfman Mathim if you're permitting multiple characters.

And by mashup I just mean taking the two ideas and merging them together not making a wolf man version of Logan.

Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide
Player Name: Fury Aphrodesia
Character Name/Identity: Kitaka Tori (Kit)/ The Fox
Tale(s) of Origin: Are you kidding  me? Kit the Kitsune gets no credit.
Alignment: Chaotic undecided
Abilities:
Shapeshifting - Any fox worth her salt can shift between the human and the canidae forms.
Foxfire - Like a squid's ink, a fox can put up a wall of flame when being pursued or cornered. They can also launch fire, or simply leave a trail of it in their wake. This mild pyromancy only lasts a few seconds and burns much, much cooler than other fires. It's enough to begin a blaze, but on it's own, largely just a party trick. If left without fuel, the fire burns out a few seconds after flaring into life. Will burn the skin, but do little enough actual damage, other than causing a momentary flash of pain.
Illusions- Able to conjure minor glamours and illusions of various sorts, the fox is most easily able to change it's own appearance-related traits, but has been known to disguise people, objects and even buildings if need be. This seriously exhausts the fox, however.

Skills: Trickery of all sorts is open to the fox-folk, and as such there are very few deceptions they cannot see through to some extent. While mental and physical trickery is rarely so effective on them as on others, emotional manipulations aren't outside the realm of possibility. As a gifted runner, the preparations, natural flight patterns and crafty tricks of hiding and seeking are a special forte for Kit.

Backstory: The stories of Kitsune range far and wide in these modern eras, and just a little too late. Once upon a time, the land was filled with them, ready to spill over into neighbouring territories at the first sign of international acceptance, but by the time that cue came, there were few Kitsune left at all.

The hide of a kitsune are said to bring good fortune on those who have taken it, and naturally removes the Kitsune from being able to contribute to the gene pool any longer. Throughout history, the hides of foxes have been taken to ensure the good luck of the hunter and the decimation of her people. As far as she knows, Kit is the last Kitsune.

Kitaka isn't her original name - that name has long past into history. Instead, she has changed it many times in the almost four-hundred years she has been on this planet. She is the proud owner of three lovely tails, though she generally keeps these hidden and for good reason. A few hundred years ago, stories of her trickery and exploits began to surface in the form of tales that, thankfully, botched her description in every possible way. Sometimes she was merely a talking fox, or sometimes she was male. Sometimes she was the nobility of some foreign land, sometimes she managed to trick others into believing that she was one of their own. Very few people know that the reason for her frustration and her overall bad attitude is that she's sick of being blamed as a malicious trickster when it's really the fault of the people who didn't listen to her, after all.

She falls under neither category, neither Inari nor Yako, which made her an outcast even before the hunting of Kitsune hunted them nearly to extinction. These days, she is obsessed with hiding in the shadows, watching the unfolding of human history and still can't help but to stick out a paw and leave little riddles here and there. Let the clever save themselves and she assuage her guilt by doing the least she possibly can. It's not her fault if they don't listen, if they get themselves killed.

Not her fault, damnit!

The struggles of others of her caliber mean very little to her, insofar as they often fail to address what's in it for her. Confident in her ability to disappear at a moment's notice and evade capture as long as it takes, she thinks of herself as a powerful ally for any and secretly wonders to what lengths each faction would go in order to gain her loyalties.

Personality: Friends and strangers and enemies are all alike to Kit. They're all part of the workings of a society that helped to cast her out, and her bitterness won't let her leave those feelings behind. The whole world owes her, as far as she's concerned, and she'll take contributions to that price from anyone who crosses her path. Only once your part of the debt is paid does she consider them to be on equal footing, even though her deepest core still has some soft and pliant parts that will yield to circumstances. Children are a special interest to Kit, and she will easily get close to them, but once the wonder of the world has faded from their eyes, she fears that all humans become inherently alike. She's got a chip on her shoulder, and it's pretty damned heavy.

Orientation: All? None? Being unable to nail down her gender, her form, her breed, it's not surprising the stories have failed entirely to pass on her sexuality. Unbeknownst to most, she's largely heterosexual. But she's not above indulging her curiosity, either.

Honestly, I would think using an existing model of a comic book character and adapting their powers into a fairy tale character is the best approach if no other obvious power for someone leaps to mind. I would recommend everyone try to take that path to start with, so yes, that's perfectly fine. Just keep in mind, werewolves/loup garou/whatever you want to call them, aren't an individual entity so they would be just one of many, not a unique thing unless you really set them apart somehow.

Offline LamentingQuill

Player Name: LamentingQuill
Character Name/Identity: Azula, the Blue Fairy

Tale(s) of Origin: Pinnochio
Alignment: Lawful Good.

Abilities/Skills:
-Arcane mastery- Azula has used her centuries of existence well and mastered the arcane, she is ALMOST a match in magic for Rumpelstiltskin. ALMOST, but not quite.
The blue fairy does not require spoken incantations or spells to do her magic, she is one with the arcane and it bends to her will without opposition.
-Soul sight- Azula has the ability to peer into an individuals soul and see them for the type of person they truly are, this becomes more difficult with other magically inclined individuals, but not impossible. It is a much more simple matter when the subject is willing.
-The Blue Gift- For a truly deserving and pure of heart individual, Azula has the ability to grant ONE of their hearts greatest desires. The Gift would instantly reject a would-be receiver with an evil heart.

Backstory:

Azula is one of the fairies dedicated to doing good and rewarding those of good and noble hearts.
She met Snow White not long after the young queen's beloved husband was murdered by Rumpelstiltskin... the imp was growing in power and things were just going to get worse and worse if something was not done about it, so it made sense to quickly throw in her lot with the side of good... headed by the queen so beautiful that even Rumblestiltskin took notice.

After meeting her, it didn't take long for Azula to find that Snow White was far more than just her legendary beauty, she found a clever and strong determined young woman, one that refused to buckle or give up, even when she felt afraid. She saw a leader in Snow White, she saw someone capable of encouraging and inspiring those brave enough to flock to her side to never ever stop fighting, to never submit to the wicked.

In Azula's experience and observations... it was very easy to give in to evil, it was easy to allow those lines to be blown away and let selfishness drive you... oh so terribly easy and alluring...

It took someone with true strength and conviction of ones values to look the darkness in the eyes and adamantly reject it. Something Snow White had done repeatedly throughout her young life.

This... this stuck out to fairies, in a very good way. Which spurred fairy approval to participate in this war.

Azula went to the other rainbow fairies and asked of them to send a representative to support the side of good in this war... to stand beside Snow White.
The rainbow fairies agreed and elected Azula to be their representative in retrospect of all the good she had done among mortal-kind, it made sense to them that Azula be the one among them chosen to go to Snow White.

Personality:

Azula is a very loving and cheerful fairy, she loves life and adores humanity, nothing give this fairy greater joy than spreading joy and watching lives change for the better.

She is very protective of friend and highly open minded when it comes to strangers, always believing that if you let them... people will always surprise you. Sometimes in bad ways, sometimes in good ways, but you'll never know if you don't give them the chance to show you.

Azula is reluctant, so to speak, when it comes to enemies, she understands that there comes a time when one must rise up and take a stand to stop a terrible menace, but... she still laments for them, wonders when they took that wrong turn in life, why it happened and how things could have otherwise been different,

Mortals are so very complicated...

Orientation: Heterosexual

I have to be honest, I don't know of any thread links you provided, just took your advice and searched my own name along with "Avengers Grimm" and that post came up. I can still post the link if you'd like?

Sure, but that actually is a great idea since my name will be connected to all previous games. I might find even more names to add to the master list.

Online Norsegod1839

Player Name: Nosegod

Character Name/Identity: The Wolf Man (James Adhemar)

Tale(s) of Origin: The Wolf Man

Alignment: Neutral Good

Abilities:

Enhanced Regenerative Ability:

His primary magical power is an accelerated healing process, that regenerates damaged or destroyed tissues of his body far beyond the capabilities of an ordinary human. In addition to accelerated healing of physical traumas, James healing factor makes him extraordinarily resistant to diseases, drugs, and toxins. However, he can still suffer the immediate effects of such substances in massive quantities; he has been shown to become intoxicated after ingesting significant amounts of alcohol, and has been incapacitated on several occasions with large amounts of powerful drugs and poisons.

His healing factor also dramatically affects his aging process, allowing him to live far beyond the normal lifespan of a human. Despite being born in the late 18th century, he has the appearance, conditioning, health, and vitality of a man in his physical prime. While seemingly ageless, it is unknown exactly how greatly his healing factor extends his life expectancy

James magical ability also consists of animal-like adaptations of his body, including pronounced, and sharp fang-like canines and three retractable claws housed within each forearm. The claws are a natural part of his body. The claws are made of keratin, as claws tend to be in the animal kingdome. James hands do not have openings for the claws to move through: they cut through his flesh every time he extrudes them, with occasional references implying that he feels a brief moment of slight pain in his hands when he unsheathes them. During his research into his condition, James found that there are channels inside his forearms through which the claws move when he extrudes them, and that he unsheathes the claws a few times a day to keep the channels open, similar to pierced ears.

James senses of sight, smell, and hearing are all superhumanly acute. He can see with perfect clarity at greater distances than an ordinary human, even in near-total darkness. His hearing is enhanced in a similar manner, allowing him to both hear sounds ordinary humans cannot and also hear to greater distances. James is able to use his sense of smell to track targets by scent, even if the scent has been eroded somewhat over time by natural factors. This sense also allows him to identify shapeshifting magic to an extent. He is also able to use his senses of smell and hearing, through concentration, as a type of natural lie detector, such as detecting a faint change in a person's heartbeat and scent due to perspiration when a lie is told

Skills:

Primarily his skills are based on his natural weapons. He is an experienced fighter and uses the claws the can protrude out of his body to attack. He's got an aversion to magic (Like he's allergic) and so relies on brute force and natural speed and strength.

Backstory: James Adhemar was born to a wealthy logging magistrate in Ontario Canada. His father who inherited the logging company from his successful strict father was not a good man. He was a heavy drinker and physically abusive to James mother, older brother, and himself. James was something of a hot head as well and constantly fought his father to try and protect his family. As his father made more and more poor business decisions the expansive logging company dwindled in size and scope. This of course only furthered his fathers depression and anger.

Anger he was more than willing to take out on his family.

James and his brother John took to spending more time out in the woods around their family estates. They explored their woods heavily sometimes staying out late in the night to keep from having to go home. The ravines that dotted the forest were of particular interest to the young boys. They hunted for fossils and tried to find evidence of the mystical tribe that was said to reside in the forest. The tribe was long rumored and practically legendary in the area though whether they were instinct or not was highly debated.

On John tenth birthday their father came back to the house in a particularly bad mood. He was ranting and raving brandishing a revolver and drunk out of his mind. The fight that happened from there ended with James and his father wrestling for control of the gun. Two shots came first and to this day John isn't sure if it was his finger or his fathers that led to his mother and younger brother dead. James entire life changed in that instance his anger turning to grief as the two of them bled out on the floor of the manor.

His father blamed him and him alone for the murders. He turned on his son shooting him in the head before fleeing the family home. What happened next defied imagination and reality. James found himself in a version of the forest that was far more ancient and powerful than the one he grew up exploring. A part of it seemed familiar to him but also dangerous and primal. It was there he met the black wolf spirit the tribal god of the mythical forest people. The wolf called him a friend of the tribe and asked him if he wanted the power to get revenge on his father. James said yes and agreed to enter a pack with the wolf.

He awoke naked in the forest and alive. The only evidence of the gun shot to his head was a scar. It was the only scar that remained on his body. He spent months in the forest learning his abilities and eventually finding and meeting the mythical tribe. He was called their god and when his father finally dared come back to the mansion they were waiting for him along with John.

His revenge finished he buried his mother and brother and set out to find his destiny.

Personality: James is a drifter type and while he has no problem around people (and is actually quite sociable) he reveals nothing about his past. He lives life in excess and is known to drift from small town to small town before the men in the town get tired of him and run him out. He's quick to joke take risks and other wise piss people off. The wolf in him always tries to be Alpha which leads to him being competitive and cocky.

Orientation: Straight

Appearance: James is a short stocky man with a muscular chiseled body. He likes to joke that he would be tall, dark, and handsome if he was tall. He stands at about 5'5 on a good day and some time uses hiking boots to compensate. His black hair is trimmed short though over the years he has sometimes worn it long to show age. He has a permanent five O clock shadow and has to shave daily to keep it down. He has that problem with the rest of his body as well and tries to keep it all maintained even though it annoys him greatly. His eyes are a feral green, his skin tan and his body muscular.

There we go Mathim! I got the two up properly! If it's okay with you I'd rather not go with a picture for them as I like to describe their looks instead.

Offline MathimTopic starter

Sounds cool. I had wanted at least one character whose ability stemmed from having a familiar, a sort of spirit animal that they could merge with at will and alter their form to become empowered, so this is somewhat close to that. Just need some images and you're set. If you could give us at least one sort of base image and describe how different it is from that if possible, I just want to make sure everyone follows the same format.

I think I already had that one collected, since the Notify button was already on 'Unnotify'. But I'll use that trick of searching for the titles along with my name to find more.
