The Greatest Moments of Video Games
« on: January 24, 2009, 07:02:08 PM »
You know. Those epic scenes, the game play, the story that says: I will play this game when I'm ninety and shamelessly buy every new version of it that comes out.

Mine:

Final Fantasy IV
Final Fantasy IV DS Opening High Quality

Chrono Trigger

Chrono Trigger: The Masamune!

Best justification for a linear plot I've ever seen:

The MechWarrior and related series, yes, something I plan to play until I'm ninety and will likely and shamelessly buy every new version of...

Not an actual cinematic, but let's throw in the total MechWarrior Living Legends total conversion mod for Crysis, and the Mektek expansions for MechWarrior 4 Mercanaries.

I REALLY miss Mechwarrior 4. :(  I can't get it to run on either my old Windows XP computer or my new Windows Vista one.  That game was epic, though... probably the best in the series.

Actually I've been running on XP Pro and the game runs just fine for me.

Weird thing is though; for some time I had an issue with connecting online; with MW4 Mercs that is. I could browse and see the hosted servers, but I couldn't join any. I knew I had a port blocked somewhere, even with giving the game full access through my firewall, and I never got it sorted out.

But a little over a year ago, Christmas 2007 in fact, I bought a wireless router for my brother when he came down. He's got a decent job, working out of the house because he conducts online research for the company he works for, and he can sit in his place with the coffee pot brewing all afternoon and just work from his laptop.

The beauty of this arrangement is that he can take work with him, so when he flies in for the holidays he can use the wireless I set up in the house and stay longer without taking vacation time. And when I installed the router, I gained immediate access to the Mercs servers, even though routers themselves tend to have firewalls.

Go figure.  :-\

I havenít played all of the Silent Hunter series, but Silent Hunter 3 comes highly, heavily recommended. You fight the battle of the Atlantic on the German side; this thing is a full-blown U-boat simulator.

Having grown up in Chicagoland, which has the U-505, famous for being the one U-boat captured intact during the war, Iíve been inside one of these suckers, and I can tell you they modeled her faithfully. This vid includes GWX, the Grey Wolves Expansion, a mod that upped the gameís sights and sounds overall. Enjoy.

FF8 is, indeed, much better than FF7. In my opinion.
