I'm not one for pulling together whole plots that any two characters can be placed into like a mad lib, but I have a lot of ideas to offer that will hopefully inspire and/or lay the groundwork for good, hearty worldbuilding. Keep in mind with settings listed, I'm not keen on doing hard history for this and will likely just use these time periods as a point of reference, however realistic they might be. This is a work in progress with potential for hefty updates. Reading my Ons/Offs thread is required and is linked in my signature below.

First String of Ideas

  • A more realistic take on beastman myths. One's slow, gradual transformation into monsterhood being an irreversible process involving the growth of hair, teeth, claws and perhaps even horns.
  • Inflicted characters suffering from memory degradation, mania, etc.
  • Would love the frontier setting for this one, since I feel it fits the landscape of beastmen. Villages conducting paranoid witchhunts of supposed monsters and self proclaimed physicians taking down these blights and experimenting during the advent of chloroform. But it's still up for discussion should my partner have ideas too good to pass up.
Second String of Ideas (admittedly the one I'm more excited over)

  • Remains of old creatures discovered somewhere in the Earth prescribed as cure-alls or genetic enhancements.
  • Something more hoaky, including cross-experimentation or the monetization of whatever is produced by their remains
  • My inspiration for these include Bioshock and a number of Lovecraft-esque stories. I especially like the Hounds of Tindalos, but for the purpose of this roleplay would enjoy the origins of whatever corpses found below (and the potential, living or revitalized beings) being vague, and left in mystery, at least within the world we create.
  • Preferred setting is the early 1900s, particularly around the 30s with strong notes of art deco.
  • I would love for said creatures to be depicted with horror conventions should they even be alive. Beings so foreign to humanity that even their motivations are impossible to comprehend.
Potential Settings, Interchangeable

  • American Frontier: From the colonial era to the mid-late 1800s. Think anywhere from dark, Louisiana swamps to decrepit prairie churches. I like the look of a gothic, southern setting or desolate, snowy, American forests and feel it'd be a great place for monsters to roam.
  • Noir Periods: The early 1900s, particularly around the 30s with strong notes of art deco. Admittedly inspired by the early Bioshock titles, though I'm a fan of 20,000 leagues as it is.
  • Both kinds of settings would be primarily fantasy in some small part at least. I'd like to keep the names of places fictional in some respects.
Misc Thoughts

  • I have come up with a few concepts for potential characters, though I typically prefer to wait till I'm working collaboratively to flesh anyone out. This includes an uncomfortably enthusiastic physician traveling in search of monstrous cadavers, or a hermit with a troubled mind isolating himself. The first of which I can see being interpreted into both settings for different purposes should a hunter/hunted dynamic appeal to anyone.
  • N/A, more to add in time.
